Hey I'm Fairly new to the android family with the Evo 4G, And I was wondering Is their any new app that supports Skype and/or oovoo? I was using fring but it no longer supports Skype, So I am in search of a new app. Please help me
I believe Skype is blocking third parties atm... they have exclusive contracts with Verizon for Skype but I also believe they want to release a skype app on all androids soon enough

Skype on Android is exclusive to Verizon. You can install the apps marketaccess or my market and change your carrier settings in there to make google think you are on Verizon for you to see the skype app in the market. I am not sure that it will actually work if you download and install it though.
I was disappointed by this too (coming from WinMo), but I have figured out how to use sipdroid in conjunction with google voice to get free voip calls to the US and Canada (I had a gizmo5 account which is no longer open for registration, but you can choose from a number of sip providers). Another option that looks interesting, but will not work for calls to non android/iphone phones (yet anyway) is a new vonage/facebook app which gives free voip to your facebook contacts. i haven't tried that one out yet though...
Nimbuzz 2.0 works perfectly with Skype, MSN, Yahoo, Google talk and some other.
Does Nimbuzz let you make outgoing voip calls to a phone from a skype account?

Don't people say there is a loud echo when they speak with you on skype?
Everyone i spoke with said they hear themselves and very loud echo.
you can get skype if you use market enabler. However, it has not been said to be a good app. The Skype to landline calls still use minutes etc.
As most of you know the Verizon Skype app sucks because it only routes the call over Verizon's voice network (and in the latest version they let you keep your wifi on, but the app does not use it)
Iv recently found a nice app called Nimbuzz http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.nimbuzz
Nimbuzz can connect to Skype and let you use it as true VoIP, it will let you make and receive Skype called over 3G and WIFI. (your phone does not even need to be activated) And its not even limited to Verizon users. Fore free, it is the best Skype client for android (better than the official android app)
I just wanted to share my find with XDA.
great find, i know a few ppl looking for this! i appreciate the info
So last night I was going to video chat with someone using my Evo only to realize that the other person didn't have an Evo, iPhone, or Epic so I was stuck relying on the iMovicha App (damn you Skype for disabling Fring). It was my only Phone to PC/Mac option so I decided to give it a shot. Unfortunately I downloaded the wrong version of the app (not Evo 4G specific version) and I was stuck with the program only recognizing my back camera so I gave up.
This experience helped bring me to the conclusion that I want to build an app that will run on the phone and PC to complete the task that Fring doesn't and iMovicha does a poor job at. Seeing as I am not skilled in the computer programming area and I have been writing some Apps for Android these past few months I will need as much help as I can get in writing the user-end app. Anyone willing to help out please PM me so we can start this project.
I know many Evo users have been wanting an app that will do Evo to Computer so here's your chance to help get this done!
P.S. Does anyone know if it is an option to edit Fring itself and add a video chatting feature for the yahoo or windows live protocol?
I would kill to be able to video call people on Gmail Chat in their browser. I can do video chat in Gmail browser-to-browser. I can do text chat either browser-to-browser, phone-to-browser, or phone-to-phone via Gmail or Talk. What I want to do is use Google Talk/Gmail Chat so I can do video calls to all of my friends and family who leave Gmail logged in all day specifically for the purposes of video/text chat.
dude, use ooVoo for mobile (beta). it's in the market. it works best over 4G and Wi-Fi, though, just warning. i am waiting for skype mobile with video on android though, skype is much more popular. but for the time being, ooVoo seems decent to me.
want a real video phone go to kybeck.acnrep.com and then products.... phones are super cheap on there as well
You can video chat with the yahoo messenger app and video plug in from the market

My wife has a Atrix, we have a Acer 500 tablet at home and I am getting my Galaxy Nexus Thursday... I want to be able to start doing video calls, what would be the best way to do this? Should I just use Skype?
fyi: we are in canada, if this makes a difference, as I know many google apps dont work the same in Canada as they do in the US.

You could use Skype or Google Talk.
or Google Messenger (multi-party video calls), it comes bundled with Google Plus
Thanks.
I actually just tried this out this weekend... very nice! I thought the hangout feature is useful and nicely implemented.
Mobile hangout is the best option because it works on iphone as well. Also allows for group video chats.
Tango and Fring can both make video calls like Facetime.
My wife and I, use qik video chat. Its decent. But if you want the best nothing tops Google + hangouts.
I have used Fring between Android & iOS devices with no issues at all.
I have a friend on Blackberry, what is the best mobile data based voice comms app that they can use to call me?
I guess Skype is the best know, does Google Talk do voice on Blackberry?
Thanks.
VIBER (best free VoIP calls)
Whatsapp (best and most reliable messenger)
Buddy (for msn chat facebook chat etc, it's a dying trend)
Facebook messenger
Live profile, dying trend but gives the read and delivered status like bbm
Ummm if you search market place for these I'm sure you'll find related apps but these are the most common off the top of my head

When I go to Biker in the Android market, it says its only available for Android and iPhone?
