Greetings, I am a newbie who recently got the X10 mini which I love, but I have had days of troubles trying to get Nimbizz and Google Voice configured to make free calls. An awesome developer named "fishsticksfromguam" made this program called "Advanced GV Caller" which I purchased, and could not get to work. I followed all of his helpful instructions, but it still will not work properly. Is anyone else having these problems or can anyone give advice?
The errors I get are:
With A.GV Dialer: it says GV is calling my phone and either the phone call just doesn't go through, or it says that my GV number is not set for callbacks. Since GV does not have a callback number, I don't get it.
Nimbizz: either goes black and freezes and I have to restart my phone, or it says, Nimbizz is not responding, force quit?
Then when I sign back in, it shows that my Skype account under Nimbizz is offline, whereas just a minute before it was online and I was able to make calls.
Or it says, Activity Phone (in process.com.android.phone) is not responding, force close.
My Gizmo5 account is set up properly and my Google Voice phone number has been verified by the developer himself. I sincerely recommend fishsticksfromguam's programs as he goes out of his way to help.
Below are the instructions that I have followed:
1. Login in Gizmo5 and under the "FORWARDING" tab, select the option
"Forward All Calls", and enter your gtalk email address, hit save and log out.
2. On my Desktop computer, I start the official Google Talk client.
3. Login to Google Voice and under Settings menu, I added a new Phone
with my Gizmo5 telephone number and I selected "GIZMO" as the phone
type.
4. Google will now attempt to call your Gizmo5 number to verify it.
Since you've forwarded ALL Gizmo5 calls to your gTalk, it will come in
on your Google Talk Client where you can now answer the call and verify it!
*** YOU HAVE NOW VERIFIED YOUR GIZMO5 NUMBER ***
5. Install Nimbuzz (or Fring) on your Android phone, and ensure your
Google Talk is set up properly to receive voice calls.
6. Install Google Voice Call Advanced, enter your Google Voice
Username & Password, and for the Callback number, enter your full
Gizmo5 callback number (ie. 17475551212), and select "GIZMO5" as the
phone type. Select "Use GV for all calls". Hit Apply.
*** You should now be able to make FREE phone calls using your Android Phone ***

I don't have any experience with nimbuzz but I can give you my two cents on Google voice. Some apps worked some of the time but in the end for making gv calls the only stable option is through the browser. Now I just have a bookmark saved on my homescreen and it opens to my contact list in gv. Incoming calls obviously need nothing special. Hope this helps

From my desktop PC, I am able to login to Google Voice and use it to make and receive calls.
But when I try to setup Google Voice on the G Tab, it seems to get stuck on the "Set up voicemail" screen
"We have a problem"
"Your voicemail settings could not be loaded. Please try again."
If I hit "OK" then "Next", it goes back to "We have a problem".
If I hit "Skip" then it is stuck in this "Set up voicemail" screen with the "Back" and "Next" buttons grayed out.
I have read several posts similar to this problem.
What I don't understand is why does it think that this G Tab is a phone?
What should I do?
I am having the same issue. Google Voice had been working before but I recently had to wipe user data and now when I go through the setup it gets stuck exactly as you described. Has anyone found a solution. btw I am running tnt lite 4.2.5

I could be completely wrong, but I had the same problem, my conclusion is that google voice is trying to identify your number through voicemail BUT...it can't because there's no sim card. I don't know I might be wrong. Hopefully someone else can come in and correct me or confirm the info. Good luck.

Installed this apk file.
Rebooted the G Tab.
Started over the Google Voice settings.
This time I moved beyond the "Set up voicemail" screen.
Finished the Google Voice setup completely.
When I try to use Google Voice using my Landline as the forwarded phone, it works.
But when using Google chat as the forwarded phone:
When I try to use Google Voice to make an outbound call, Google Voice says that it is calling me but I do not see any inbound calls on the G Tab.
When I call my Google Voice number from any landline phone, on the landline phone I can hear the ringing but I do not see any inbound calls on the G Tab.
What am I missing?
I just want to make and receive calls in Google Voice from the G Tab.
Trust me,
Google voice still works for text and calls. Once you sign in just hi the home button. You can then select a contact to text or call. It infuriated me to no end untilled I figured this out. Now I call my best friend in Hawaii for free.

I was messing with Google Voice just last night. I found a post that suggested getting to the voicemail page and then just backing all the way out of GV again. I did that then went to test by sending my very first SMS from my gtab (i think I went to the 'phone' app then found the contact I wanted then long pressed or something then saw a little message button, clicked it and it took me to a place to type a text... and based on the tiny icon on the top I believe I was actually in Google Voice). Oh and the sms went through. As far as calling goes I didn't test it but I'm pretty confident that if I just go to the phone app and dial a number it will work. If I had my gtab with me I'd put my money where my mouth it right now.
I'll check on this thread when I get home later and let you know if I have better details or new info.

I had the same problem but resolved it by downloading the latest Google Voice from the market. Went through the setup again and when it failed the first time I found the "Skip" button had been moved and worked flawlessly.
According to Google Voice -> Settings -> About ->

That's the build I have and is the current build in the market (as far as I can see...).
It is not just the Google Voice app on the G Tab.
When I open the web browser.
I log in to the Google Voice web page
https://www.google.com/voice
I click the Call button.
In the Number to call field, I enter a friend's landline number.
In the Phone to call with, I select Google Talk.
When I hit connect, it says "calling you ..."
But there is no ringing on the G Tab?
So what exactly is it calling?
I powered off the G Tab.
Use the same Google id on my desktop to access the Google Voice web page.
Made the same outbound call, it works.

Yes, that is correct. If it isn't there then you probably need to perform one or more of the market fix procedures first.

Last I heard, Google Talk for Android did not yet support voice/video calls. You should still be able to have it set up a call to your landline or cell.
Ok, I got the Market fix done.

I had the similar problem. I finished the install the file you provided. Voice mail set up was done. But, when I go back to the home screen, click on the phone button on the right side of the screen (one of the three button) and dialed a number. It says call setup failed. I am not sure why that happened. Does anyone know? I just want to be able to make calls, no need to receive calls. Thanks

Google Talk for Android (the app on the G Tablet) is not the same as the Windows app or the browser plugin for desktop machines. It doesn't support voice or video calls so when you select it to be used from Google Voice it won't work. To make and/or receive calls from GV on your tablet you must use a VOIP product and set it up in GV as you would any other phone. There are threads on this forum that discuss how to do that.
You can still initiate calls from your mobile or landline by setting them up in GV then selecting the appropriate one in the "phone to call with" menu from the web page.
Interestingly... you can also log into Google Talk (or gmail with the GT plugin) from your desktop and use your G Tablet to initiate a call using that instance of Google Talk.
I am assigned to work on this imported MTK6516 PCBA. It is Android 2.2 with built-in dual SIM. To make outgoing telephone cellular telephone calls, the OS start dialog for user to select SIM1 or SIM2. These are unlock GSM mobiles.
My assignment is to make Google Voice to work.
I am able to install and receive incoming telephone calls.
However, I am unable to make outgoing Google Voice telephone calls.
The OS do not allow user the dialog of selecting Google Voice all or Cellular calls?
How do I make the fix to the OS to allow user to select Google Voice or Cellular calls?
Actually, in one of our old Samsung Galaxy Android 2.1 test units, there are additional selection dialog, such as asking user to select outgoing call by Skype, Google Voice, etc.

Yes, Google Voice is installed.
Yes, able to log onto Google account.
Able to sync google gmail contact into Android phone contact.
Unable to dial out to make Google Voice calls.
No dialog panel allow user to select :
"Complete Action using:
Dialer"

When I click the "Phone" - all this phone is allow user to select dial using
SIM1
SIM2
No selection of Dialer between SIM or Google Voice.
Go into settings applications and click on dialer or phone (however the app is displayed on your device) and then clear defaults?

I am unable to make Google Voice out going telephone calls.
This Android OS was modified to make dual SIM operate & SIM standby mode.
Is there any where I can seek advice & help in the "dialer" inside the Android OS?

You can use an Xperia Tablet Z as a telephone via WiFi after setting up the tablet as described below.
Notes:
1. Doing this will not be free, it will cost $4.99 USD, the price of GrooVe IP app. This is a one-time cost.
2. This will only work in the United States of America, a limitation of Google Voice.
3. This will enable you to make and receive telephone calls and send and receive SMS text messages. Calls and text messages should be free; however, read Google Voice Terms.
4. I have tested this on my XTZ and STS only. It should also work on other tablets.
5. This is based on information found at THIS POST.
Requirements:
1. WiFi access at home, work, wherever.
2. A Gmail account.
3. GrooVe IP app available from Google Play Store for $4.99 USD.
4. Google Voice app available from Google Play Store for free.
5. Google Hangouts (replaced Google Talk) app available from Google Play Store for free, but it should already be installed on your tablet.
Instructions:
1. Install GrooVe IP, Google Voice, and Google Hangouts (should already be installed) onto your tablet.
2. Go on-line to www.google.com/voice and sign in using your Gmail address, then follow the on-line instructions to setup a Google Voice account and get a Google Voice telephone number. Next, go into the on-line Google Voice account settings and set Forward calls to Google Chat to ON (checked).
3. On your tablet, open Google Hangouts and sign in using your Gmail address. Exit Google Hangouts.
4. On your tablet, open GrooVe IP and sign in using your Gmail address. Go into GrooVe IP settings, select Miscellaneous, then select Startup and set Autostart to ON (checked). Exit GrooVe IP.
5. On your tablet, open Google Voice and sign in using your Gmail address. Go into Google Voice settings, select Sync and notifications, then select Select ringtone and pick a ringtone sound. Exit Google Voice.
6. On your tablet, open GrooVe IP and make a telephone call or call your tablet from a real telephone using the Google Voice telephone number.
I recommend you read all information provided on-line for GrooVe IP, Google Voice, and Google Hangouts. I also recommend you go through the settings for GrooVe IP, Google Voice, and Google Hangouts and set them to meet your needs.

Being an avid Twit.tv follower, and hearing Leo extol the virtues of a set up like this with an ooma, or an obi phone, I figured this could be tackled. I recently bought into the Ting network (another twit network advertiser), and got a 3g<wifi access point device to make playing Ingress more palatable on my STS. I'll give this a shot when it arrives next week, and give a little feedback. I don't really plan to use it, but always wondered if I could get it all to work right when I heard him talk about the advantages of it. With Ting being an extreme pay-as-you go option, and the perks that google voice provides, it could become a viable alternative to my tracfone - as long as google voice stays free (no reason it shouldn't, but you never know). Thx again for the stepxstep.

May dig further in GVoice settings, after I recharge everything. Audio in, no problem. Calls outgoing, and incoming, no problem. Just no audio out. Strange. Wonder if it has anything to do with my GVoice account being tied to my home phone? Hard to say at the moment. Updates to come. Tips and tricks (possibilities) accepted gratefully

Have you used or tested the tablet's microphone with any other apps to make sure the microphone is working? Is your tablet in a case that may be covering the microphone? Have you tried adjusting GrooVe IP's Microphone Volume setting? Mine is set to the default value of -2.
The only problem I experienced was with echoing, but that was solved by enabling echo cancellation and adjusting the echo tail time.
Covered the basics
It works with stock camera app. I adjusted the mic volume, and tested a couple options alluded to in their troubleshooting section. It is hard for me to test things out, until I get somewhere with a separate landlines. I bet it is something simple. Just have to hit some forums. Hopefully, I shall prevail!
update
The positive: This actually works, and possibly was working, when I last posted.
The negative: Depending on how I am using it, access to the microphone breaks, but is recoverable with a reboot.
So I made progress, kinda. What I found was that upon a reboot, my microphone functions system wide until I use grooveIP to make an outbound call. Once that call is over, my microphone is no longer useable by any application, until I reboot the system. I can recieve calls all day long, without losing access to my microphone, but once I initiate a call, grooveIP, or some part of the process involved, doesn't release access to the microphone.
Now that I have figured this much out, I may be able to troubleshoot some more, and figure out a better solution than a full reboot. I have not contacted grooveIP either, yet, though maybe they could suggest an easy fix.
Kinda cool getting/making calls with this thing. Bit of a lag issue, but I may be able to attenuate that some.
How can I get Google Now/Search to work offline? I've got Google voice typing to work offline through settings > language & input methods but I'm unable to use it with Google Now. Anyone have any ideas?
ex: I'd like to just say "Open Settings" to be able open the settings app without being online...
I'm struggling with this issue as well. Sometimes when I'm traveling, I'll be in an area with no data connection or WiFi. I can say "OK Google" to activate the voice search...however, any command I give it (i.e. Play 'artist') is met with "Can't reach Google at the moment. You can still use the mic to place calls. Say "Call" and a name or number." I know the offline voice recognition works, because I can turn off my WiFi and data and use the voice input to write text. I have Xposed installed and I tried the "GoogleOfflineVoice" module, but I'm still met with the same message.
Does anyone have any ideas of a work around for this? This is particularly frustrating because I used the Google Search API and Tasker to automate a lot of my phone usage while I'm in the car. However, if I don't have a data connection, it no longer functions.
If you don't have a data connection it's never going to work. It has to go to Google servers where the database is and all the heavy lifting takes place
