icq on touchpad - WebOS Software and Hacking General

is it possible toget ICQ messaging working on a HP TouchPad?

I wasn't aware icq was still in existence. If you or someone else wrote an app for it, it should work. Something like a trillian port might even be better to help cover those that use multiple chat programs.

ICQ uses AIM's OSCAR protocol, and at one point used the same servers. AOL has sold ICQ, so I'm not sure if you can still use AIM clients for ICQ, but that used to be the case. Try an AIM client, it might just work. (ICQ is still popular some places, especially Israel, but not sure where else.)

Looking for a Jabber client

And yes, I've searched.
It seems the top two options for Jabber on Windows Mobile are imov and the Agile Messenger beta, both of which I have tried.
The Agile messenger beta doesn't allow one to specify the server for XMPP, just an ID and password. I stuck in my gmail address and password, but to no avail, which is a crying shame. Further: when I re-launch it seems to have forgotten that it can do jabber now, offering only AIM, ICQ, Yahoo and MSN. Very odd.
Imov just plain won't go, and even if it did, it's all sorts of ugly.
So has anybody got any better apps? Or maybe I'm doing something wrong with these two...
I don't want jabber as multi-protocol gateway, just a plain old self-contained IM platform. The only IM platforms I use are googletalk, IRC and Skype, the latter only because gtalk has no mac client, and cannae do conference calls.

Windows Live > stripping "Hotmail" from the branding

This may seem petty to some, but it's a pain to me:
I have a domain hosted by Microsoft, as part of their Office Live setup. Overall it is an arrangement that works very well for me.
Windows Live on my Athena x7510 works exactly as it should, too and I receive my e-mails in just about real time.
BUT on the device the mail account is listed at Hotmail. Yes, I know Windows Live mail uses the Hotmail platform, but the point is MY e-mail address is NOT a Hotmail address.
I have always held the belief that any business using a free e-mail address, such as Hotmail, cannot be serious about itself and portrays an image of being amateurish.
Often, at clients' sites, I may need to show a client a message I've received on my phone, so I don't want any Hotmail bits being displayed.
Any ideas on removing the Hotmail branding?
Am I the ONLY person that wants this changed?
Evidently nobody else has any interest in this!

Hmmm, why not getting yourself a real weghosting + domain + email?

Yes, I can read and have updated my above post for you, so, you can understand me! Played around with that Office Live stuff from Microsoft myself for a while to see how it works. It is absolutely useless if you really want to use it for business.

But I HAVE real e-mail! If you cared to read what I wrote, you'd have seen that my site's hosted by Microsoft.
I have masses of bandwidth, various Sharepoint-type web apps and I can custom build many more, I have masses of server storage, I have secure workspaces that I can share, etc. etc. Go have a look at http://smallbusiness.officelive.com/LearnMore/ and you'll see what I mean.
My e-mail is my own and is branded - it ONLY shows as Hotmail on my Athena x7510.
OfficeLive Small Business might not be everybody's cup of tea, but I work for myself and it suits my needs perfectly. Because of what I do I'm mobile very often and I depend heavily on Remote Desktop. I use it to connect to clients' systems, as well as my own back at the office.
Mobile e-mail is essential to me and in this regard Office Live certainly delivers the goods. I run a custom utility on clients' servers and it alerts me by e-mail of anything untoward on such monitored systems. At times I show clients such alerts when on site, meaning I show them the alerts on my x7510. This is why I needed the Hotmail branding removed, because I DON'T use Hotmail.
Makes sense?

Can I suggest you don't simply use their freeby stuff and go for the big boys choice? Had you done that you'd not have posted a claim that you can in no way support.
Having just completed a rather large MOSS 07 custom implementation for a client (with the bespoke code written in C# using the VS 08 IDE) I know my way around web servers, web services and web sites.
But I run a business, not a hobby, and I don't get paid spending weeks coding a fantastic web app for myself. Instead, I reduce dev time massively by using Office Live. This is why I find your claim that it is useless for business to be extremely ridiculous.
Perhaps you should learn how to interact with web services? Then you could also pull system info off a server using WMI and write it directly to a Windows Live workspace accessible only to your client and yourself. Business means more than owning a desk, you know?
Yes, I know! I understand that not everyone has the know-how which is needed to run his own site. I understand that some people depend on Microsoft doing the job for them, NanoRuler. Even though OL works one way or another, I wouldn't call this a professional setup for a business solution - I believe Germans call thsi "Shuhflickerei".
During the past 15 years, I have not only set up tiny servers but developed and programmed entire internet portals, so, chill out, get a beer and enjoy the tv program ... !

Using MSN on T-Mobile and The Best Web-Based Messenger

Hey guys,
I use a Touch HD on T-Mobile basic web'n'walk, now I've heard many times that you can't use MSN or Skype or even FTPs. However the windows live on the phone functions perfectly, this is not the case though when I use it as a modem for my laptop.
So Basically I was wondering if there is a work around to get it to work on a laptop or computer as it works on the phone. Maybe a proxy or tunnel could do it?
Lastly if the above isn't possible what is the best web-based msn client? At the moment I use meebo and MSN web-messenger but I'm looking for something more developed than that.
Thanks in advance.
Bump - someonemust have an idea on this.

Jabber client?

Has anyone found a good jabber client out there?
use the meebo app...it's great and i use it for my work jabber account
Cool thanks.. seems to work really well so far... wow this will come in very handy at work. One question... is there a way to change the contacts' names the way they appear in your list?

Mulitmessenger for: Skype (with voice support), StudiVZ/MeinVZ, ICQ, Facebook, MSN?

I always used Nimbuzz but they cut StudiVZ and dropped the development of the WM app.
Their JAVA version is annyoing because its not signed and there is no voice support in java.
So is there any software out there wich meets my requierements?
BTW: MeinVZ/StudiVZ would work with the Jabber protocol, i would only need to enter a diffrent server (wich nimbuzz doest support either of course).
try palringo! sometimes it's a bit laggy (depending on your device, i tested on touch diamond and hd2, worked fine on both), but i recommend it. StudiVZ isn't supported 'cause german networks didn't figure out yet, that WinMo is way older than the iPhone xD
you could try and ask the admins of StudiVZ, they may know another app
Vz has their own app..but i really want all in one program. Can i setup a custom jabber account with palringo? Then VZ would work too.
seems skype is removing itself out of all other apps than their own, so any decent mutlimessenger with VZ networks (or costum jabber server) and file and photo transfer out there?skype doesnt matter anymore..
Thread moved to Q&A.
