Default Home on 2.1?

I see around ze interwebs you can ditch HTC Sense (the home screen portion at least) by clearing defaults in the app manager. However it doesn't seem to work for me.
I installed Home switcher from the market and it shows only HTC Sense as a switchable home. Did they remove the default Android?

I believe they did on this release.. sense only..

I'm gettin' that impression. Kinda weak, since I think Sense is lame. Phone is much snappier without it.

indeed..everyone is raving bout launcherpro.etc..but i still use helix.. without issue..

Wait, the official 2.1 update ditches home? Wow.. thats crazy. Another reason I'm glad I didn't update. I like launcherpro more than helix, but I'd rather just use home. My home is too bare when I use one of those launchers, I need to icons to fill space

touchwiz 4 port for infuse??

im wondering if anybody will port touchwiz 4 to the infuse its on just about every other phone and i know the infuse is relatively new still, but we have a few roms already and lots of dev that was done faster than normal so i don't see why it would take long to port a launcher. im not a dev so i don't really know but i would love if the tw4 launcher would come to infuse.

yes it was done on the vibrant for 2.2 so it is posible, just needs some libs and i think a framwork or services.jar mod or something. nopcodex indicated it might added to his bionix infinity rom. i wouldnt be surprised if mikey mike does the same.

touchwiz 4 features??

I am from india. i wanted to know whether the touchwiz 4 is modified for infuse or is directly taken from samsung galaxy s2?
I am asking this coz in touch wiz there is 3G 324M integration for Native video calling using phone calls as 3G services.

Try that. I used it for about a week it's actually quite smooth

I love this launcher, they have made so much progress with it. Very smooth.
You can back-up your homescreen and other pages so after you flash a new rom and reinstall your apps you go into the launcher settings hit restore! Voila all your pages/homescreen are back to your preferences. It even puts your widgets back where they belong!
Love it! I'll never flash without it!

I use this launcher as well and its great when it works, but at least a couple of times a day for no reason at all it will slow down and/or freeze up and I have to wait for abit for my phone to respond again. And sometimes it will crash as well and my phone will reboot.

Yeah, that happened to me too.
I love 4.0, but I couldn't stand that random reboots so I went back to Launcher Pro. I think I read somewhere that the reboots happen when your phone uses too much resources.

Using go launcher ex myself. A lot of themes online and it has the option to back up the launcher so that after a flash you can go right back to your home screens

ya ya i know many don't like sense, but sense 3.0 is badass vs touchwhiz. my question is now that we have cwm working and getting gb, is there a way to port a sense 3.0 gb rom from lets say the sensation?

Not possible, same reason TW won't come to HTC phones.
Even if it were, there's no dev out there doing the porting work anyways.
Drivers and everything else are completely different so it would be a hard task.

it is possible, as raver said before in other threads, but it would cause a lot of unnecessary problems. it is just easier in the long run to avoid it all together

could do it given time since i dont own eather device so id have to port from a device i never deved on to a device i deved on but dont own lol... Is it possable yes just takes work which i dont mind but really why would u want it yes tw is bad but theres other lauchers out theree.... If you guys really want a sense rom ill look into it THAT DOESNT MEAN PM ME EVERY 5 MINS ASKING FOR ONE

It would be hard porting from the sensation, the resolution is higher and you have to do a lot of m10 editing. Sense 3 is cool but it is a memory hog the files are huge to download well over 300 plus megabytes. I know because i have virtuous unity with sense 3 on my mytouch 4g.

Zeam Launcher is a lightweight one, not too bad. LauncherPro is nice and very customizable just like GO Launcher and ADW. I personally like Zeam.

MT4GS HTC Sense 2.1 ROM + 3.0 features (i.e Lockscreen, weather videos, etc.)

Can I ask for an HTC Sense 2.1 rom? I really find the Sense 3.0 rosie a hassle and the carousel, though pretty cool, gets annoying when I need to quickly scroll to a certain homescreen. Also I prefer the smooth basic screen transitions of Sense 2.1 as opposed to the 3D effect transition on Sense 3.0 roms.
Actually, IMO, the best rom would be an HTC Sense 2.1 with Sense 3.0 features (lockscreen mainly) fusion. Can anyone make it happen? (aka Undeadk9)

Ummm no. Sense 3.0 is so much better. No dev would do that. It's not something a large group of people would use.

You're right but I just want to make sure: Is it possible to downgrade our MT4GS's Sense 3.0 to Sense 2.1? If so, how? (I'd like to design a custom rom myself )

You would need to find a phone compatible with our device. I'm thinking the MT4G or Desire HD and port it to Doubleshot.

From my developmental tests from Sense 2.1- Sense 3.0 on the HTC HD2 and Desire HD,
I realized that it's possible to port the Sense 3.0 rosie to a Sense 2.1 rom. I'm wondering if it's possible to port the Sense 2.1 rosie to our MT4GS's Sense 3.0?

Sense 2.1 sucks compared to 3.0 use undead sensless rom u wont be dissapointent

I could probably do that, but I only make ROMS I intend on using, I'm pretty busy with school and work, but If I have a free weekend I might give it a try. However I don't think it would be worth it, a lot of features would be cut, since I wouldn't spend time optimizing it for the MT4GS, just the basic 2.1 ROM.

Thanks dude, I appreciate it alot man. And I know what you mean about busy. 5 AP classes + a job leaves very little free time, let alone the fact that you have other stuff to do. But if you could get the basic Sense 2.1 rosie and perhaps provide me tips on how to implement the widgets (especially the clock widget, it's basically the trademark of Sense haha), that would be all I'd need.
Also, couldn't you literally just replace the Rosie from a MyTouch4g/DesireHD sense 2.1 rom, as well as the other htc widgets as Seo did to bring a Sense 3.0 port to Sense 2.1 roms?

The carousel lags? Apparently you never flashed my sense on crack rom. I never got any lag at all.

You're right I haven't tried it yet. I'll give it a shot sometime later. Too lazy to s-off and sort it out. I just hate the 3d flip animation, I like the smooth screen transitions that were on the older Sense rosies.
I'm still contemplating whether I want this phone or return and exchange for a Sensation. Of course either way, it's Sense 3.0 carousel.

KEEP IT. The Sensation is a piece of crap, I worked for T-Mobile and we have returns on them more than anything. They overheat, the touchscreen is highly unresponsive, and the screens look mediocre... Even after installing custom ROMs they still have issues.

Yea, but there's so many devs for the Sensation, I wish our MT4GS had more...
Oh and btw, those devs just ported over the HTC Amaze 4G's (aka MT4GS's) camera to their Sensations. WOOW is all I can say.
Plus, with the second coming of smartphones in the HTC Amaze and SGSII, there'll be even less reason for future devs to work on this phone.
Gotta admit though that I like the hardware keyboard as an additional option for typing. It may be crappy compared to the G2, but I've never used a slider-phone before.
And, I hate the designs of the Amaze and GSII, they're even more curvy than the MT4GS and Sensation, lol.
Sorry...to get back on topic, Undeadk9, would it be much simpler to port the Sense 2.1 rosie over onto a Sense 3.0 rom? Rather than modding an entire rom? And is it as easy as I think it is?

I agree. Keep the phone. Plus this cpu is meant to clock at 1.5ghz. The sensations is right where its suppose to be. Plus this device has a way better processor. And the keyboard is a huge plus.

In another phone, you can just trick Rosie into thinking it's running on a Sense 2.1 device and it will run in 2.1 mode. However, I don't think it's possible with the native MT4GS Rosie since it's specifically compiled for us/TMO. I could be wrong though, worth decompiling it and taking a look at it.
I wouldn't run Sense 2.1 though. That's boring.

Or maybe you could exchange it for a desire hd or mytouch 4g since you're looking for older software. there's not going to be a whole lot of demand for older software on a newer device unfortunately.

That's exactly what I don't want, as you can see the MT4GS is SUPERIOR to those devices. But I really prefer the simplicity of the old sense, and combined with a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, it would be 1000000x faster + no lag. Why would I want to go back to the "Stone Age" so to speak?
Really and truly it's the carousel that bothers me, if I didn't have to deal with the carousel on Sense 3, it would be just fine.
And let's just put it this way: Sense 2.1 is exactly what Sense 3.0 is WITHOUT the carousel. So for those of you who don't prefer the carousel, this is what you want. Of course there's the lockscreen, but I'm talking purely on the basis of the rosies.

All of this nonsense because you dislike the 3.0 carousel? Im sorry but you have lost your mind. And your to lazy to s off? Its a 5 min process Thats completely automated and pain free. But yet you want to design a rom which could take days maybe weeks? All Im seeing is a huge lack of common sense.

well do you just want the launcher and widgets or the whole set of menus dialer and more?
you can use 3rd party apps like go contacts and launcher pro and go weather or beautiful widgets or fancy widget and replace the lock screen with a market ap but to port the ui takes work both ui's have some kernel integration and the phones use completely different hardware so it takes a lot of work from experienced developers and none here have any interest in that. best i can tell you is to buy a sensation or it's canadia equivelant if you are not satisfied with market app.
though i do like mikeys suggestion.

I prefer Mikey's suggestion, agree with Dani's and suggest you look at how the proposed Sense port went for the original sgs and then come back......

I used Sense with Cookie's improvments. The GO Launcher and ALL of its addons are actually far superior - then add 2 quicklauncher - and this phone DESTROYS sense. Just a bit more work to get all assembled - but its all there and WAY MORE.

Getting TRUE sense UI on samsung based rom is (impossible??). Porting them is a lot harder then anyone might think.

sense is very heavy. i remember even 2 years ago on windows mobile phones it consisted of thousands of files. and it seems to only have gotten more bloated. its definitely not impossible, but its so intertwined with the framework, it would take alot of work. htc is not going to make it easy.

yeah I didn't know.. I know they port all the time from htc to htc so didnt know how it was from htc to another model or another model to htc.. the sense 3.5 for my inspire was great but the phone button broke, so i got the samsung infuse until the next htc came out.. I do however like some of the feedback i got and with a few free apps from the market ive got it dialed in with the htc looks without the battery cpu and mem hog.. may just get the galaxy 2 and mod it the same way and see if i can hold off on the htc.. but i hear the htc holiday aka raider is going to be amazing
