HTC evo can run (out of the box) stock android w/ nexus launcher and all.
http://htcdev.net/topic/11584-sprint-evo-4g-working-without-sense-ui/
I don't know if this has been posted before, since I'm in a rush to prom I havent been able to check. anyways, htc has done another thing right. yay! haha
1. There is already a topic about this.
2. There is NO WAY to run the phone without Sense UI without installing a custom ROM. Sense UI is highly integrated into the OS. The video that you see is the EVO running launcher2.apk instead of Rosie.apk (the Sense home app). This is nothing new or exciting, so I wish people would stop making damn topics about it.
Hey man, you gotta understand i didnt search and couldnt search. Also, i know you cant completely replace sense ui on a stock rom but some people like the launcher2.apk better. So sorry for double posting bud

I always used to hate sense, but then after looking very close at this phone, I have to admit i love it now! Just getting more and more psyched for this phone every time i see it. I think if everyone took their time to look in to sense ui, they would end up liking it a lot like myself.

For many this is true. For others, I suspect there are multiple motivations for wanting a pure android. I suspect most fall into one or more of 3 categories.
They may want pure as the driven snow Open Source Android
They might want as few of what they don't need as possible for increased resources
They simply don't like the HTC and it's prettiness
To each his own. As long as you're on Android, we are on the same side. Viva La Evo! Viva Android! Death to Apple!
I like Android Sense. Makes the transition from WM6.5 Sense a lot smother for me
I dont think anyone would deny that fact that Sense looks amazing. I just want to shut it off to save my battery. From what i hear, sense is quite the juice hog.

You won't save much battery if you turn Sense off. Unless you just have pages full of self updating widgets or something.
love the 2.1 UI.im GOING for that instead of the SENSE
Yeah... I'm looking forward to a stock froyo EVO as soon as possible... best of luck to those with the skill to make it happen
Or at least sense with the stock 2.2 launcher. I actually like the default contacts and messaging apps for sense. Not to mention the clock is way better too, and camera has tap to focus. One thing AOSP has for me though is the look, the white and orange are very appeasing for some reason.
im jus hopeing HTC keeps their promise of updating the SUPERSONIC in july to FROYO 2.2(love the UI).gonna love the phone even more.

I don't think they promised anything at any date, other than that most handsets made after 2010 will get 2.2... no specific dates were set..maybe i am wrong and please link me if i am..

hhmm, goofy quote, I'll say that.
HTC Sense is "attractive", but not for everyone.
The first time I played with Sense was on a Hero ROM on my G1. Then again with the Desire ROM on my Nexus.
Even with the Nexus speed increase, it was definitely NOT sexy.
I really like the Plain Jane look of Android™ raw.

Check what else you put in there besides fancy widget, version 1. 30 is working great for me on spica i5700 running 2.1 with launcher pro and judging by comments no one so far is experiencing what you are reporting.

What's wrong with Sense?
Isnt Fancy widget similair (about the same) compared with HTC's Sense clock widget? Makes me think why you would like to have Fancy widget while you have Sense
LauncherPro + Fancy Widget works like a charm on my Nexus

Yeah, doesn't make sense at all Seriously, yeah, I'd just use the HTC Clock widget.
I still like the whatever-the-app-is when you touch the weather in the Sense Clock widget.. World weather, time, stopwatch, etc all in one place. Played with it in XDAndroid a bit, but using a stock Nexus One and have separate apps for such things now.
You do realise the HTC Clock Widget can only be used on Sense UI, right?

well, i dont know about him/her, but i would ALWAYS prefer a knock-off(no offense to dev) over the real thing.........lol. i dont get the op posting this and insulting the dev who put this up. you couldve taken the time to find the real culprit responsible for your issues rather than giving the dev a bad rep. Im sure its more likely a combination of your apps/kernel/rom/recovery image not playing nicely together. you need to locate the issue rather than insulting a dev that tries to provide ppls with no sense, the ability to experience one of its most popular, well-known widgets...im not surprised you got flamed for this one. God damn, thank god for adblock in Firefox.. Ugh.. Seriously, what is wrong with your signature.
Some strong words without any real proof Could have even asked if anyone else had issues before making a definitive statement.
My first Android phone was the Tmobile (US) G2, so I got used to the plain vanilla OS. When I got my Sensation 4G in June I was immediately put off by Sense, which in my opinion is inferior. To get closer to the stock feel I use Launcher Pro and this certainly helps, but I still see Sense running in the applications list. If I kill the process it momentarily gets removed from the list but is there again when I next check. I have read that this could be because Sense also controls the dialer and contacts, so my question is if I replace those functions with a 3rd party application will Sense be gone for good?
Just let sense run in the background. It's not using cpu cycles so it wont affect performance or battery much usage at all. And unless you're reluctant to flashing new rom, try this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204912) out. A new version is supposed to release today which is supposed to be off the hook. And its the closest you can get to stock that I know of so far.

I am not yet at the point where I want to flash a new ROM. So are you sure leaving Sense running isnt going to negatively impact my battery life? I have read other posts stating Sense is a cpu/battery hog.
How can you not like Sense, i'm biased as every android phone i've owned has been an android with HTC Sense so I can't live without it, the Launcher pro looks cheap and too basic, you need Sense to add a bit of flare to your phone!

Just personal preference to be honest. Sense is essentially "eye candy", and I guess I am just more of a utilitarian kind of person.

Yes its definitely personal preference. It would take away the shine of having an android phone if you didn't use it. Android is very basic and the "normal" hope screens are boring compared to HTC Sense. Anyway i'm all for sense .

Sense is a cpu/battery hog while its active. On android however, when apps are put into the background, they become inactive.
Now I'm not a developer so I may be wrong. I based this conclusion off this article which leedroid linked to in his rom: http://lifehacker.com/5650894/andro...ed-what-they-do-and-why-you-shouldnt-use-them
In Android, processes and Applications are two different things. An app can stay "running" in the background without any processes eating up your phone's resources. Android keeps the app in its memory so it launches more quickly and returns to its prior state. When your phone runs out of memory, Android will automatically start killing tasks on its own, starting with ones that you haven't used in awhile.
The problem is that Android uses RAM differently than, say, Windows. On Android, having your RAM nearly full is a good thing. It means that when you relaunch an app you've previously opened, the app launches quickly and returns to its previous state. So while Android actually uses RAM efficiently, most users see that their RAM is full and assume that's what's slowing down their phone. In reality, your CPU—which is only used by apps that are actually active—is almost always the bottleneck.

It's slow, it's bloated, takes battery life and has no 'advanced/configurable' features a la CM7 or LauncherPro.
Sense is much much more than the launcher. It's the whole ecosystem on a HTC Android phone. Hopefully when Ice Cream Sandwich hits Google will stop manufacturers putting their own launchers on top of Android, or at least make it an option. I don't mind a few widgets (flip clock) but Sense has gone too far.
Roll on CM7 and MIUI!

Use more efficiency?
Use more of battery?

I like using LauncherPro in place of Sense because you can add all the eye candy you want (even Sense looking eye-candy) without having to include the whole battery wasting, memory hogging, and gigantic Sense Eco-system.
Based on what appears to be confirmation that Sense is a memory/cpu/battery hog, will running an alternate launcher be sufficient to prevent this or do I need to somehow fully disable it?
Just use your launcher pro. Don't worry about sense, she won't bother you anymore.
I have been trying to use launcher pro but the app drawer animation stutter a lot do you have the same issue? ?

Yeah, I had that problem too. I bought my phone yesterday and was up till dawn messing around with it. Launcher pro seems extremely laggy, so much so that sense was a welcome change. LP worked better on my magic!
Yeah well Launcher Pro is pretty much abandoned by the developer. Hasn't been updated once since at least october last year.
Sent from my Leedroid Sensational Htc Sensation!
So I just installed the new (official) 2.3.4 update released by Tmobile USA. When it started back up Sense was set back as the default launcher (boo!), but I must say it felt very smooth and quick. In fact, when I set Launcher Pro back as the default it seems as if Sense is actually faster. Has anyone else experienced this?
I would not say faster than LP... but it is a lot smoother than 2.3.3
I dont know, Sense does now feel very fast as much as I hate to admit it.
Even though I hate sense. It is pretty fast on the new update. For me though I need to be able to run 5 icon rows which sense does not let you do. Plus I still think the launcher looks outdated
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
Yep, I have to agree that the update made Sense run faster, but I still love my LP. I love how I can have 5 apps dock with gesture to open additional apps. Also, I hate how Sense's app drawer looks and controls...just awkward.
I totally agree. Sense really does suck in every regard, and I cant stand it. However, I must say that this newest upgrade has done wonders for it.
Im referring to a Sense ROM but Im guessing its not possible, though Ive seen some ppl use LauncherPro+ and they get look a like sense widgets and the dock bar (Rosie) at the bottom just like the actual sense looks. Can someone confirm this being possible?? Thnx

its def in the settings, jus play around with it, should take like 30 secs... as far as lag, in my experience, none watsoever. imo lp sense is smoother than sense on that evo, but those are from my experiences. probably cuz our phones are faster than the evo...
