Then you should've gone HTC... Normally we're not like this. Post things in the right section and we're much nicer.

You did try the phone before you bought it, right?

1. Print this out.
2. Acquire scotch tape
3. Tape to phone
4. ?????
5. Profit!

well do you just want the launcher and widgets or the whole set of menus dialer and more?
you can use 3rd party apps like go contacts and launcher pro and go weather or beautiful widgets or fancy widget and replace the lock screen with a market ap but to port the ui takes work both ui's have some kernel integration and the phones use completely different hardware so it takes a lot of work from experienced developers and none here have any interest in that. best i can tell you is to buy a sensation or it's canadia equivelant if you are not satisfied with market app.
though i do like mikeys suggestion.

I prefer Mikey's suggestion, agree with Dani's and suggest you look at how the proposed Sense port went for the original sgs and then come back......

I used Sense with Cookie's improvments. The GO Launcher and ALL of its addons are actually far superior - then add 2 quicklauncher - and this phone DESTROYS sense. Just a bit more work to get all assembled - but its all there and WAY MORE.

Getting TRUE sense UI on samsung based rom is (impossible??). Porting them is a lot harder then anyone might think.

sense is very heavy. i remember even 2 years ago on windows mobile phones it consisted of thousands of files. and it seems to only have gotten more bloated. its definitely not impossible, but its so intertwined with the framework, it would take alot of work. htc is not going to make it easy.

yeah I didn't know.. I know they port all the time from htc to htc so didnt know how it was from htc to another model or another model to htc.. the sense 3.5 for my inspire was great but the phone button broke, so i got the samsung infuse until the next htc came out.. I do however like some of the feedback i got and with a few free apps from the market ive got it dialed in with the htc looks without the battery cpu and mem hog.. may just get the galaxy 2 and mod it the same way and see if i can hold off on the htc.. but i hear the htc holiday aka raider is going to be amazing

HTC Widgets

Hi,
My Nexus one arrived today (UK).
My mate has a Hero, and on his hero he has a set of widgets from HTC, e.g sense clock etc.. Just wondering if you can get them for the nexus one, ive seen a few imitations, but I would really like the real thing!
Real things require the Rosie framework, which is HTC specific. That's why the imitations exist.
Ok thanks for that, looks like its imitations for me then

Just outta curiousity, how did WW-D get off with keeping the flip clock look when Beautiful Widgets had to change their design?

Does that mean that we won't get sense on the n1 until htc releases sense on a compatible piece of hardware like the bravo? Or do we just need someone to rip it out of the hero?
We probably won't get sense until an Android 2.1 compatible version comes out. I suppose it might technically be possible to use the current 1.6 Sense (I don't know, I'm not a developer, so don't quote me on that) but why would you wanna go from 2.1 back to 1.6?
It won't be long, though. Bravo supposedly releases in March, and Hero 2.1 update is supposed to be approx. the same time.

There's a 2.1 based Hero rom floating around, and the Espresso rom, so it's potentially possible, but neither of them is especially good. Once the Bravo comes out, the similar hardware should make for a quick (and almost perfect) SenseUI port I'd think. Look at the 32A Magic/Hero - same hardware, eventually got an official SenseUI, and it works very well.
That said, unless Espresso/Sense2 added a lot of new features, I'm not entirely sure of the appeal beyond just Rosie. 2.0/2.1 added most of the best features of Sense to stock Android.

Do they work OK on Nexus? I'd be interested in those. I don't like the Power bar because it takes up 4 spaces - really only want to toggle Wifi and Internet - Plus the individual ones can be put on different screens Are they .apk ?

Stock Android on Epic

I just want to be sure I am not missing anything - there are not any Epic roms out yet right? to put it a different way, every single epic owner on the planet is currently using the Sprint/Samsung factory version of Android 2.1, yes?
Have spent a number of hours on xda and google, but wanted to be sure I was correct on this one.
Just really anxious to get away from Touchwiz, it doesn't even really feel like Android.

You're correct, no custom roms yet. In the meantime you could install a different launcher such as launcher pro and adw launcher to give your phone a more aosp look
Sent from the future...
Honestly, after I installed ADW Launcher, Beautiful Widgets, rooted the phone, and uninstalled all the Sprint crap with Root Manager / Titanium Backup, I'm actually happy with what's left of Touch Wiz. The dialer / contacts / integration etc is actually pretty nice. My phone looks like stock 2.2 now, but has a few nice improvements.

Agreed. I think touchwiz is like a double edgd sword. One the one hand it has a ton of features and usability improvements, on thbe other hand it looks horrible. Launcher pro gets rid of the ugly and adds even more features.
I wouldn't want stock android even if it were available.

experience with the epic

just rooted my buddies epic, which was definitely not as smooth as the captivate, and got to play around with it for a bit. i have to say, not impressed. feels like a big bulky clunker. not as refined as the captivate and is really a pain in the ass to root. tinkering with the epic made me appreciate my captivate that much more.
anyways just my short story of the day..
Thanks for sharing.
Can you give an example of how the phone was not smooth plz. Everyone else says that its smoother stock than the captivate
Sent from my phone so excuse the spelling errors
the process to root the phone is what i was referring to as not as smooth as our phones. there is a "one click" root for the epic but it took multiple tries to get the
1 click program to even see the phone and then once it saw the phone it was another issue to get the root over to the phone. not an easy update.zip like our phones.
the speed of the phone felt the same as the captivate stock vs. stock. once the dev's get a good root package down for the epic it will be better.
one other thing i didn't like about the epic is that there is no way to change what shortcuts you have running in the touchwiz tray. its the little things i guess.

You still can't move applications around? That's trippy. lol
nope, you dont even have that option. when you press menu in the app drawer you get the choice to list or grid. i am thinking it has something to do with the keyboard? i dont know.

it is noticeably heavier than my captivate with the body glove case on it. also the battery cover that it uses is SO cheap. its one piece of very thin plastic that clips on to the back with some really weak clips. i pulled the cover off of his phone with my non existent fingernails with great ease.
EPIC is stuck with an older version of TouchWiz 2.5 and lacks quite a few features TW 3 has on Captivate. The reason is because of the required landscape support for home screen when keyboard slids out.
Why not bake in landscape support on 3.0? Is it that radically different?

Well uh, I love my Captivate, but lets face it, Samsung hasn't exactly gone the extra mile on these phones.
That's how they get released with things like GPS issues or the lag troubles, etc. (Or the slower 2.2 upgrades.) Could Samsung have built in landscape on 3.0 and make it work with a not unreasonable amount of effort? Absolutely. Did they have to move units? Obviously not. So did they? Nope.

EPIC is the first slider in Galaxy S line. Samsung could wait 6 more months (or even more) to add landscape support in TW 3.0 or release the phone now and sell millions. It's a no brainer.
HTC spent couple years try to make landscape mode work perfectly for TF3D/Sense home screen on WM.

While that may be true, it didn't take them years to release landscape mode in subsequent releases. If Samsung has figured out landscape in a previous version, I find it a little hard to believe it would have been more than a couple weeks to port it over.
Its not like Samsung's QC is super high. If they ported it and FUBAR'd yet another thing its not like many people would have been surprised.
Then again, im not a programmer, so maybe my POV is unrealistic and skewed.

NexuS has pretty same hardware. Even better cam..
I sold NexuS because I missed some of the sense things:
the stock dialer has NO t9 search - most dialer from market are crap or slow or somehow frickled on the stock dialer. Even old nokia do have a quick search option...
Stock contacts are ugly.
GAL (global adress list for exchange server) is NOT implemented in android 2.x - only in 3.0; but it's implemented since sense1 (hero)
CM had some issues - espacially with the notification bar/speed settings - on 2.3 - the new sense 3.0 lockscreen and notification bar are very good - so no need for CM at the moment - for _me_
So I deleted most of sense.apk from /system on my DesireS (all widgets, all "htc", like route66, amazon, stockexchange..) and do use adw-launcher instead of rosie (don't delete it cause is needed for lockscreen settings!) - but do have integrated company exchange and a good biult in dialer, cool contacts (with flickr and fb content) and nice lockscreen..

Sense is THE BEST ANDROID UI, EVAR. Don't know why people wanna "DE-SENSE" their phones. I'm gonna flash CM7 to see what the fuss is about , but sense 3.0 first Hopefully, the new official version of CM7 will come for DS too. I'd rather let the ports pass on...........

had there been better WebOS devices on the market, i would probably have bought one of those instead. i've been told that app development is a lot easier than on any other platform. and as soon as i get some time, i might just look into writing apps for android.

There's plenty of HTC phones out there that are running custom ROMs and customised user interfaces that don't rely on Sense. It may be the "out of the box experience" as far as most HTC phones are concerned, but isn't that what all THIS (ie these forums) is about - customisations, and thinking "out of the box"? (no pun intended, haha).
If we all concentrated on Sense and variations on that theme then this community would be a much poorer one.
Peace
sense ftw!
Well, i love sense, but i am porting the cm7 just so people have the choose, and also to make the development on this device more alive
But personally, Sense is the thing!

[Q] Sense 3.0 on Infuse?

This is probably a noob question, but I guess i'm just not sure how these things work. Why isn't it possible to fully extract HTC sense 3.0 from an HTC phone, and replace whatever is on a Samsung. I'm assuming that hardware and software are somewhat linked so that maybe one of the answers. But it would be nice to see HTC sense on the beautiful SuperAmoled Plus 4.5" Sammy Screen. I guess my question is why do I have to resort to a theme to make my Infuse look like sense instead actually having it.
ps. I know some of you will tell me to just get an HTC, but I prefer Samsung for many reasons, and i just like a few of the 3D Animations that Sense offers, including the weather.

You wouldn't exactly brick it since you can use the Ultimate Unbrick to restore it to stock but the ROMs wouldn't work and most likely the kernels prolly wouldn't either
it just wouldnt boot up at all. lol.
heres what you CAN do if you want some of that HTC Sense. FAKE the whole thing.
get a launcher that allows you to chnage the dock bar. i believe that "he launcher" has several options to choose from.
then you can go over to the UOT kitchen and load up your framework-res.apks and choose the HTC Sense icons they have there. they look pretty legit. then just flash the, to your phone. then for the widgets, just download some from the market.
the you go. your Faux-Sense is made.
thank you. im rolling out. peace.
Lp sense actually works really nicely and theres agile lock, for the sense 3.0 lock screen but its a bit inconsistent.
any who thanks for answering my questions!
