[Q] "Blank SD card or unsupported file system"??? - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hey guys, as the title says my nexus one is telling me something worse than I have just about ever seen on my phone.... I have a 16GB SD card in my phone and I have about 10 gigs worth of photos and so on of my 1yo son that I unfortunately haven't backed up or anything and I can't bare to lose them as they are the only ones I have (Don't tell me,I know I shouldn't of kept them on a SD card in an everyday phone that gets extremely heavy usage. I KNOW!). Has anybody had the same problem as I have? Just to let you know I have 2 ext partitions on the card along with the FAT partition. These consist of a 1gig ext3 partition and a 512mb ext3 partition. So I don't know if that's the reason for the crash. Guys it might seem like a petty problem to you guys that have PC's (mine ended up getting thrown out of a window... Don't ask) to format them and use recovery programs but I just need to know if there is something I can do.
Cheers.
Stu

[Q] happened to me too - microSD corruption

Do you have a recommendation for a FREE way to recover a microSD card ?
I always read about it happening to others,
this time it's my turn - my new 32GB microSD shows up as corrupted on my new skyrocket
It happened when I changed battery (reboot)
Tried my windows PC - could not recover or read the microSD filesystem
I saw lots of paid software out there that offer recovery. Isn't there a free utility you know ?
Thanks

Make sure your card isn't counterfeit. I had a Kingston card that I bought off Craigslist that kept getting corrupted and turns out it was fake. I bought a real one off Amazon that works perfectly.
It really depends on the corruption. I've had a situation where something similar happened to a card in my digital camera. The corruption there was unrecoverable.
You can try the Easus solution which should be able to recover any files that are still recoverable. Not all files that it lists are going to to work though.
Important note: Don't assume that anything is recoverable, and be thankful for whatever you get. I have more experience with data recovery than I like to admit. Sometimes you get it all, sometimes you get nothing. It all depends on the nature of the damage.
This happened to me also... I lost everything on my first SD card.

Sd card error

Hi, I have been impressed with the atrix 2 but got a small problem with it. I got a new 16gb class 6 microsd card last week and put it on my phone but after i installed it there seems to be some problem on the phone... everytime i connect the phone to the computer and even if i safely remove it, the phone recogonizes the card as invalid and asks to format. I have formatted it 100 times and still the problem remains. Pls help people

very possibly a bad card. I have a couple of software tools to check them.but I'm at work and won't be able to upload them until late afternoon.
Atrix 2 has some capability issue of sd cards; some users recommend SanDisk Class4/6 cards.
However, I'm using an other brand card from my old phone, it unexpectedly mounted as readonly sometimes. Boring.

his isnt even being mounted.
I have this same problem and have to go into windows media sync mode to access the drive with my 16 gig card. If that fails then it will usually work with the moto phone portal.
I think I only got it working once with the mass storage option...
I use a 16 gb class 4 sandisk with zero issues.

I had this problem on a new sd card i bought for another phone awhile ago. Take the sd card and put it in a digital camera, format it while it's in the camera, put it back in the phone and it should work. I did this and it worked for me.

here is the tools i was refering to sdformatter is the best for sd cards. in some instances i've had it revive "dead" cards. h2testw will test flash media and tell if it's dead or fake comes in handy.
Edit: windows only and you do have to place the card into a reader.
I have the same problem with my SD CARD
I have the same problem on my atrix 2 and when this happend i take the SDCARD on my laptop and run this command on linux
#~: dosfsck -a /dev/XXX
and that fix the partiton without format again and again I know it's not the solution but I avoid delete my data every time this happend.
I guess the root of the problem is the kernel from motorola they don't care or didn't probe what happend with the partition FAT on linux, I thought change the format partiton to EXT, I don't know maybe ext4 but I don't know how enable ext4 partition to android.
I havent had issues any issues yet after moving my apps off of it and onto the phone...
But on an different note, I had issues with a 4gb card. It was almost full and so I bought a new one. After I transferred everything over I realized that I had 4 partitions on my existing 4 gb card and that I was only using 2 gb....

SD Card help

(if this is in the wrong section I apologise)
This isn't a problem for myself, I'm trying to help my brother's girl
Basically, when her phone has the SD card inserted, it says its unmounted yet it won't mount. So, tried plugging it into a PC with an SD adaptor and it doesn't even show up...
Is there a way to fix this or is this SD card busted?
Thanks in advance

The fact that you cant even get the card to show up as mounted in Windows is not a good sign.
Was there important stuff on there? If so, you could try one of the SD Card recovery programs. I've used them in the past, but if you cant even get it to mount in the PC, they are probably not going to work.
But, to me, it sounds like the card is busted. Do you have another one you could test the phone and adapter with? If not, try and exchange it if it isnt too old.

Tried putting it into another phone and its still showing up as Unmounted with no option to remount it.
All that was on was a few music files and other assorted useless junk

What's her SD?
Some fast and high capacity micro SDHC are damaged I don't know why. I tried once a Patriot 32gb class 10 and it got broken in about 1 month of usage. The same occurred with a Sandisk 16gb class 10. Don't know if it's an app that is causing it. Now I'm using a Samsung 16gb class 2 normally. The broken SD were recognized in Windows as RAW partition.
I tried some Fixers without success. You may try them.

Take a look at this too:

Just a note: Most android devices only allow FAT(32) partitions. NTFS shouldn't work.

Micro SD Card Issue

im having an issue all of a sudden where the external sd card wont delete anything i tell it too. i mount it to the computer and delete things that way and copy things on but when i disconnect everything is like it was nothing happened.
also formatting it in setting via storage did nothing all the files are left in perfect order
Ive even mounted to the computer, formatted in MY COMPUTER and it says its completely empty. Then i unmount it and guess what nothing was touched. can someone please help
I take that back even deleting within my files does nothing.
I just stuck in my sandisk 16gb class 4 and it isnt having any issues so it must be the 32 gb sandisk class 4 is the card messed up?
I'm using it with a skyrocket and im on skyics with the latest base. I'm posting here because this card has been in many other phones and never had an issue till now
pwnerman-
Reading your description of the issue .. have you tried physically removing it from the phone and inserting (either by adapter or multimedia slot as most computers have now-a-days) directly to your computer ?
Meaning .. have you tried doing this without it being in the phone ?
Yes .. I snapped at you in the thread and I apologize .. with all the BS going on in there, more and more people are getting on edge.
My answer in the thread also stands in regards to how the card is formatted. I honestly do not know your experience with computers .. thats why I threw it in there.
I have a Sandisk 64GB card in my Skyrocket running Seans latest ROM .. only way I could format my card FAT32 was actually using a single command line program called "fat32format.exe" .. and with ALL of Seans ROM's, I have never had any issues with SDCards at all.
Here is my original thread about the Sandisk 64GB http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1586295
I've done everything but attaching it directly to the computer because I have no adapter to do so. I bought one of the cheap dollar ones on Amazon a few hours ago. I've used that card in like 10 phones on triple as many roms and never had a issue till now. I do think it could be a Rom issue because the other Guy was having issues and this was the first time I did anything on the card since switching to the 4.0 skyics Rom.
I even put it in my captivate and it wouldn't even format in recovery mode. So I honestly don't know considering it wont work in the captivate either

[Q] Internal SD Storage wrong readings

I was wondering why my internal SD card is giving me wrong readings. I am rooted using Unofficial CM10 latest version 4.1.2. from10/22/12
I never really checked my internal storage until recently i noticed i have only 3.79 gbs available. I know the phone comes with 16 gbs preinstalled and i know it isnt exactly 16 gbs. I plugged the phone to my laptop and i gave me the same reading. I checked all the folders individually and i only have 2 huge files each about 2gbs each and those are the CWM recovery folders. All the other files are basic files. I tried a full wipe; cache, factory, and devik. Anybody else have this problem? And any suggestions to address this problem?
There is not really a problem to address. Everyone's phone varies depending on several factors. All is well.

I was getting 10gbs at least because everything is on my external sd card. I was just wondering if somehow my internal sd card was messed up. Because I should have alot of space in my internal sdcard. I really think it should be more though
Are you running any backups, they take a lot of space.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda premium
I reformatted my SD cards put in the same things i had running, but now its showing up that i actually do have 9 gbs left of data. I did have one backup from CWM and TB on external SD
