[Q] Ok, I have the transformer. One question - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I love my TF101. I mean it is awesome. Well, worth it.
But will I still get Android updates even though the new TF is released?
Or do I send this back and wait for the TF2? I guess I feel that maybe bought this too late in the game

You've got at least 4 months before the TF2. And even then, do you really want to jump on the very first Tegra 3 device before it's been real-world tested for a little while? If there are problems, you'll be in line with every other launch-day enthusiast trying to RMA or get a repair. I've seen it before.
Anyway, yes, you'll updates as long as the device is supported, which should be at least 1-2 years more, and that's not counting the development community here and elsewhere that might keep things going even longer.

As soon as you buy 1 device its already too late in the game. If you want the latest and greatest you will either never own anything or need to be a millionaire. Im sure Asus will continue to update the TF when the TF2 comes out but don't expect the TF2 until Q2 of 2012 anyway

December 19

Tomorrow is the 19th.
Should we be expecting the big update...
Any idea's on what it will include in addition to flash ?
I have a feeling it's going to come and go. An their will be no updates.
Most likely they are going to wait a few days and then release a state-
ment that they are working on a major update and as soon as it's done
they will push it out.
I would say, second or third week of Jan. of 2011 for the next patch
from Viewsonic.
Looks like a wait and see ...

Viewsonic hasn't updated their Twitter in two days, and today is a Sunday. I will be very (happily) shocked if we see something today.
I have my device running stock right now (and FC'ing I might add) as I wait....and wait...and wait....

Poor Roebeet. I kinda feel like we should just buy you another tablet just to get these updates. Because running stock just sucks.

This awesome community already did. I just need SEARS to be kind enough to offer up an outlet device that I don't have to fly to, to pick up.
I keep hoping that someone offers a scratched up floor model on eBay, for a deep discount. That would be the perfect dev device for me.

Where in PA are you? I can drive to Freehold and get that one and drive it to you if you are close to me.
I just purchased the one from Novi, MI, purchased one a week ago, and they sent it back, so I couldnt purchase it. So this time I called them right after I ordered it and made sure I get the product, and I'll tell them if its actually broken or not...

There's a Freehold one?? I'm near Trenton. (checks site)
EDIT: Nothing. I've been scanning it on and off all morning. I actually saw a Freehold one about 2 weeks back, but I wasn't looking for an extra one at the time. Too bad, because Freehold is an hour away so definitely do-able.
If there is ANY truth to the Gtablet being pulled by Viewsonic, the CS line will be shut off anytime, within days and they will not bother with the FW release. All of this stuff costs money.

I have never had wireless or FC problems. I guess that is why I was never motivated to install a custom ROM. I just installed all the mods on the original UI.
On a related note. Since this update (supposedly) contains Flash for the g-tablet, should I remove the Flash hack first?

We already have those files (I did look at it) - I can tell by the HTC stuff and other files in there that it's the same Gapps we've been using for the last month.
Just wondering...what time did it hit? The last time i checked was 8:00 pm last night and was no joy.

This is a great little tablet, Viewsonic has to know they screwed up the software. The hardware doesn't seem to be the problem in my book.

It's ALWAYS been the stock fw that wasn't any good. When I first got mine, I had this crazy idea of staying stock, but the original fw would always Force Close in the news page, and then the update resulted in the weather app Force Closing on me, so I moved onto custom fw and settled on TnT lite.
I might even go back to trying stock fw if TnT ever get their act together...
Now, I understand from the 3316(IIRC) thread that flash is still not included, but their website is still claiming that flash support would be released yesterday. (Odd day, Sunday, to release a fw update...)

When will the update come out for the Viewsonic G tablet and how will you be able to up date if you already flashed your tablet?

I have no idea if a honeycomb update would come out for the G tablet, but: http://androinica.com/2011/01/28/honeycomb-update-for-notionink-adam-in-the-works/

Gingerbread isnt even running that well yet and has no official GTab release. The earliest your likely to see Honeycomb available for anything is 2nd quarter. You'll be able to update just any other rom......download.....flash.....poof

That's the thing about community development... no hard release dates. These guys are not answering to stockholders if they don't release ROMs on time, they do this on their own personal free time. The real question is when will we see the offical Viewsonic Flash 10.1 that was advertised on the packaging.
Please post these things in the right area, this is not a "Theme and Apps" thread.
I asked that question of Viewsonic gTablet customer support late this afternoon while calling on a different issue (the clock app aborts). No idea when or if possible; that's in a different area of the company.

The 17th, to be precise. Google has an event on the 2nd, though, which may include a release of honeycomb source.
Fingers crossed.

Ask Adobe. They are the ones with the control on that. If they say you cant "officially" put flash on a device then the manufacturer cant release flash. Stupid to advertise something you cant provide but its still Adobe sitting on it not Viewsonic
Sorry and who are you?
honeycomb bootup in 10 secs
FYI
http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...-looks-just-as-amazing-as-the-rest-of-the-os/
The XOOM boots in less than 10 seconds. Mmm, Tegra 2 goodness. and TNT + Tegra2 + Android 2.2 takes about 30 - 45 seconds. I thought 30 - 45 seconds is very good already. Just imagine one day the gtab meets honeycomb... it must taste sooooo sweet. well, I can wait for the dev to build a custom honeycomb while I am still enjoying the tnt lite/vegan.

i hope this update solves my camera issue i really dont wanna return this
im told it will start rolling out first of next week, as soon as monday
I don't 100% love the transformer, but it is awesome. I do love how Asus is really putting a solid effort in. I've been pretty impressed at them staying on top of stuff.
for my 2nd gen tablet, I'll want something with a little less bezel... aka a tablet that isn't designed around a keyboard dock
Good work Asus!
yeah they been pretty good about the support I also like how they been puttting the updates on the asus website
I am not 100% impressed with honeycomb. But Google is willing to roll the dice and figure it out after release. I am sure 6 months from now we will all be very happy.
Lol that's how everything is now. Manufacturers so eager to get to the market half the time the roll off products halfway done and fix things as they go.
Must be close to done if they're sending it to the press.

I think you mean released, at least when I hear the term "dropped" it means it's been cancelled.
I thought it's canceled
Same here. I have just read the other thread in General about 3.1 and then I saw this one on Dev subforum and thought... Have they already dropped it? But if it's not still out...
Until I opened the thread and read it.
Regards.
Id love for it to come out monday but as a working man, in all reality, monday is memorial day, wtf would they release it on a holiday?

Dropped in the younger generation means it is released. This comes from the music industry..
i thought it was cancelled as well, but phew! im very glad to see that asus is right on the ball with the updates, worse thing is when you get a beautiful piece of hardware and then find out you have no support for it, good on ya asus!

That's not a custom rom, but anyways... dock firmware still 209? Seems a bit weird since its mentioned a new firmware will be out...

[Q] Should I buy one???

Hey folks, I've got a chance to buy a 16 gig blue version for $220, without a dock. With all your user experience and knowledge of this device, as well as what's currently on the market, is it worth purchasing?
I guess I'm just a little on the fence since I already have a nexus 7 but have been looking for something with a larger screen and have been trying to decide as to whether I should wait and see what the tegra 4 products will look like in the next few months.
* How far along do you think this product is concerning its life cycle? Meaning, will this hold up for another year or so or be obsolete and not get a klp update?
* Are you happy with it now that you've had it for some time or would you have gotten something different?
Thanks in advance for all your advice and suggestions!!!
Get it :good:
I'm on a custom rom, so it'll last me another while and I can flash whatever I like which gives me freedom. I suggest that you take unlocking/ rooting your device into consideration.
If you are goingt to wait for the newest hardware, you will wait forever: there is always something newer coming up
Thanks for the feedback. You're right about chasing new technology as there's always something newer and better around the corner. So long as there's continued support and development for this, I think i'll jump in for one.
Get it!
I love this bad boy! And for the price it's totally worth it!
Life previous post stated. Custom ROM and kernel. This thing is perfect!
I have nothing negative to say about this tablet!

I did get it, thanks to all of your recommendations. I'm pleased so far with it but I definitely want to get my hands dirty with it and really get to flashing and tweaking. I only bought the tablet and it came with the usb/30 pin cable so I do need to get a wall wart for it.
Wish me luck and thanks again!!!

absolutely true, but a thing is to pine for the newest hardware, another thing is to blindly suggest an EOL platform.
tf300 is a sweet tablet but asus is phasing it out, this mean that on one side yo get some nice offers, on other hand you wont get any more official updates (probabily 4.2 but its not sure) and even xda developers will be jumping ship when they'll buy newer stuff in time.
I think that one should get a whole picture before buying it.

Absolutely true, but that is also the case with The Latest The Greatest. As long as there is plenty development (which there is for this platform with blokes as sbdags, surdu_petru & xplowild) one can have some fun for quite some time.
For example: with CM one can enjoy 4.2.2 already now

happy camper now that my infinity is unlocked and rooted.

Did think it was that easy.... had the tablet for 6 months and didn't bother unlocking or rooting cause it looked annoying, can't believe I didn't do it earlier now. I wouldn't say its a completely new tab experience, but I can say Im not thinking about getting s nexus 10 anymore. So if you feel your infinity isnt on par... unlock and root. It's worth it.

I couldn't agree more. Actually I was in the same position and state of mind... You know, all about "what about my warranty etc.".
By the end, I got pissed not using the TF700 just because it was laggy and not as expected. The basic thought was just that I bought a device for 700€, I just need to use it at it's utmost, or at least as I would like to use it.
I took the risk to root, on CM10.1 Nightly. Well, that was quite fast and now it's a new tablet. As Jojo said it definitively worth the switch to a custom rom.
For those who are afraid, as I was, please note that "custom rom" can no more be related to "unstable and testing". There is really reliables and stables release from highly qualified programmers (CM10,AOKP/AOSP, CROMI....).
Unless you only use the tablette to listen music without touching I really recommend to jump on a CRom.

Anyone who thinks that the nexus 10 is a good replacement for the infinity is nuts. I work in a tech store and have access to the nexus 10 and the ipad 4 (or ipad retina), the infinity dances circles around them and is way more productive. The infinity can replace laptops, unless you need high end software to edit videos, pictures, or data (stats software). The development on the infinity also rivals any other device out there. If you install CROMI you will understand, it has better support and updates than any other ROM out there. It also squashes them in terms of performance. At this point no software on my infinty is stock other than apps, and i couldnt be happier. Not many devices have a custom bootloader, kernel, governors, scheduler, ROM, theme, and UI mods that work to create a comprehensive and kickass system.
Agreed
I am with you, I only had my tablet for a month or two before not being able to stand it. But once I put CleanRom on it, it flies. Makes it worth it all the more, and those who have not done it yet, are missing out. However, before doing anything make sure you spend lots and lots of time looking up on how to do so!!!

I lasted 6 weeks and got pissed off with the constant native browser crashes..several sites that I frequent have Flash and only the native browser supports it properly. Didn't care about the warranty really, it is only for a year and it looks like I've got a decent device.
After I got over the "scared to break something", it was quite easy. Now just to keep up with the CROMI updates. It doesn't take long to patch at least.
