MY particular sensation powers off for reboot and is generally wonky - HTC Sensation

Regardless of rom, hboot, etc, it does this intermittently. Has anyone else experienced this??
Sometimes power off goes to sleep of death and requires battery pull. Sometimes reboot turns it off. Even all stock it did this.
Very strange.

Everything is great for me. Guess I lucked up cause mostly all the gripes I see here I don't have those problems.

Duff device, take it back and get it replaced.
You shouldn't have to put up with a device that doesn't work as it's meant to.
The more people who return faulty items, the more pressure there is for HTC to improve their quality control and so get the factories to improve their game.

I have the same problem. It looks like faulty devide, after 6 phones from htc this is the first one having issues for me

Happened to me too, I went ahead and asked for help here on xda..... Nobody answered to my questions, so regardless of Rom, kernel the phone was constantly dying on me whenever I needed it the most.
I bought a battery from eBay, one with a 1900 mAh, it's branded Anker.....put it in the phone and since then NO MORE PROBLEMS.
Now I don't know if this is the case for you, but I think that 12 dollars its not too much to invest to try.
Good luck to you

Thanks for replies. Currently running the OEM 2.3.4 ota with root and bloat frozen, doing ok for now.
If problem comes back I'll warranty it. This is becoming a pattern with HTC...

Phone shutting off when using camera flash

Hey guys, long time follower if these forums. I have an unlocked inspire that keeps shutting the phone off everytime the flash is used on the camera. Has anyone else experienced this, if so is there any sort of fix for this?
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Probably a bad battery. The flash LEDs use a ton of current. If you've got a weak cell, it might be manifesting itself during high current draw, but seem otherwise OK. How's battery life overall?
My wife's phone's battery had a similar issue, but hers would just die when the level got down to about 75% indicated. Got a $12 ebay replacement (genuine HTC) and fixed it right up.
Well it is actually my girlfriends. She actually has no other issue with it other than that. I don't think the battery life is that bad to be honest. I think ill go with the replacement battery and see how that works out. I appreciate the help man.

At&t should give you a free one. That's what they did for me.

Phone crash with camera flash

I've noticed that when I take a picture with my inspire 4g, with the flash turned on, the entire phone shuts down right away, but when it's turned into automatic, it works fine, has anyone else has this problem, or know of a solution?

Need a few more details. What ROM, mods, etc. Folks here like to help, but we need to know what you may have modded on the phone.
I'm running stock 2.3.3, rooted, but no custom roms.

That's odd. I have never heard of that on a stock ROM. But maybe someone else here has. Good Luck
You have a bad or shorted flash led.

I can use other apps that use the flash, like tazer, and flashlight...

You should try wiping everything and installing a custom Rom or a rooted stock Rom and see if problem persists, could be a software issue. There are plenty of stock rooted gb Roms buried a few pages back in dev forum.
Check my sig. Stock roms. There is a rooted gingerbread PD98img, stock. I think it's the 3rd one, iirc.
With the phone plugged into the charger take a pic with flash on and see if your phone resets. Could be a battery issue.

It worked fine when plugged into the charger, should I get a new battery?

That would be my recommendation. If you knew someone with another inspire you could try their battery. Actually your battery should be under warranty. If your phone is stock looking then you could probably take it to an ATT store and let them check it out and get 1 for free. Or even a call to 611 ATT support might get you a new battery for free. Just tell them it won't hold a charge and the flash causes your phone to reboot and you tried a friends battery and it fixed the issue. ATT has very understanding customer support.
It definitely sounds like a battery issue. I had a very similar issue. My phone would shut off at random times, and one thing that caused it was the camera flash. I picked up a new HTC battery on eBay for like $14, and it runs like a dream! If you cant fork over the money for the HTC brand battery, there are lots of cheaper chinese batteries for like $2 a piece. They would be good to just test and see if the battery is the issue if you cant find a buddy that could let you use a battery for troubleshooting, before you buy an HTC battery.
Absolutely! the same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. A new battery solved the issue. If you have a warranty/protection plan call up At&T and they'll take it from there.
Man, I love forums! I was just having this problem this week! I guess my brutal punishment to my battery over Winter break has cost me (I was running the phone down to 0% multiple times a day). Time to get a new battery.

Digging into the problem
I was going crazy with this problem! I wonder now what is the problem with the battery, because mine it seems like it keeps current like a good battery. Does anyoane has any "hardware-electrical" explanation?
Anyway, at least I have one solution and I am partially happy with it.

I'm assuming when you say it "keeps current" you have been using a current widget. The camera flash puts a heavy load on the battery. On an older battery, it may look like it's fine at idle or doing simple tasks, but it can no longer handle the tough tasks.

device rebooting and freezing

im running ordroid 9.0.0 and i get this freak error my device reboot many times and dont stop until i remove the battery and i hate it cuz its reboot during a phone call or when browsing ive done so many thing to prevent this problem but no use any help ???
ps.ive done full wipe thing and dont tell me to reflash it cuz ive already dont it
Very strange that never happened to me while running ordroid . However I just had it happen to me ruining Aokp. I also needed to pull battery for it to boot. Strange because ordroid never gave me any problems like that! I wish I had the answer. IM going to strat maintence rebooting my device daily and see if that helps. Its reconvened we do that anyway. I wish I had a clear answer for you but all I know is my device just did the exact same thing with aokp rom. Hopefully we can get some answers. best of luck to you. Mine only did it once and its not a continuing continuing thing like yours. I hope you get the issue resolved. I'll be watching the thread for answers. Good luck!

Some people noted a battery problem which might cause similar effect. Either a problem with the battery itself, or it is not sitting right in its socket, somewhat loose.
What battery are you on btw?

Check to see if your battery is lose and if it is this is your issue. This can be fixed by putting a small piece of paper onthe battery area to stabilized it. This is not my issue but it could be your s . If the battery wiggles chances are thats the problem.

[Q] Just another restarting issue. Insight please?

Alright so I picked up a Sensation 6-7 months ago from my T-Mobile dealer. Ever since I picked it up, I took a break from the flashing/rooting scene.
In May/June, when the official ICS update was released, I installed it to see how it ran before I went full force into the rooting scene once again. Ever since I downloaded it, my phone will restart at random times. It's starting to become very frustrating especially when I use my phone for mostly business purposes. It ONLY started this AFTER I installed the official ICS update.
So onto the next step. What I've done soo far is as described
-tried different batteries
-formatted several SD cards, with no luck
-formatted the phone twice
-I always do hard resets at least twice a day
-done several tests on apparent rogue apps to see if there was a difference
Alright, so now I ask of my XDA family, obviously this has been a problem ever since the ICS update. I haven't done any rooting on this phone in case I DO happen to get it replaced since its still under warranty
The ultimate question is this, will rooting fix this issue FOR SURE or should I play the safe route and just get a replacement Sensation with it still being under the one year warranty? What would you guys do Im this situation? Any other suggestions to try before deciding one of these options? Don't wanna go through with the rooting if I just have to unroot it take it back to the T-Mo dealer days later.
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks

tried this ?
Thanks for the suggestion, but it wouldn't necessarily be a battery issue if it just started doing it once ICS was installed? Or could it have been a coincidence that it started rebooting when I did the update? Does the housing wear in after a certain time causing the battery connection to loosen?
Thanks.

I also use this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622683 (third post down) as I was in the same boat as you. I ran out of idea's to why my Sensation was always rebooting no matter what I did with countless different ROM's, Kernels etc and found that this battery_fix solved all my problems. Not had 1 reboot since Hope this helps
So just a little update. Ever since I tried the credit card trick, my phone hasn't restarted once. Roughly 2 full days. Done several things that I did before that would easily make the phone restart. Opened many apps at one time, drained the battery down to 3 percent and still no restart.
I'll keep testing this method for the next couple days but so far it seems like its been a good work around. Thankyou for pointing me in the right direction ganeshp!

Phone shutdown unexpectedly

Please guys I need help. My phone was running smoothly with no issues before. Then I finished surfing the net after that the phone keeps on shutting down at a setting interval when am in the middle something or not. I have done some things I know to bring it back to its proper working conditions but still, no improvement and I have restored to the original backup system software because I was running on custom rom before the incident and it still happening.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda app-developers app
Tried another battery, ejecting your sd and SIM cards or if the shut down happens with a charger plugged in? If yes then do a super wipe, flash fresh firmware and ROM then test before restoring anything, check all MD5 before flashing.
If it still shuts down with fresh everything then maybe a hardware fault, return to stock and do a warranty repair.

Try THIS fix. Maybe your battery is loose
I have not tried a new battery I will do that and see what happens next. Because I also suspect the battery, I was having 87% battery life when the phone shutdown unexpectedly and I powered it on again the battery became 13%, I think the battery is the culprit here. I will try what you said and see.

Strange of the battery to go down so fast. Yes you should probably try another battery
Ad he said try different battery . My mugen battery was behaving like that then my device turned black and I couldn't boot, no charge light was detected! I switched batteries back to Anker now my device is running fine. Strange because the mugen was a new battery but sometimes this happens. So yes definitely try another battery.

Yeah!!! You guys are great I appreciate the ideas you guys contributed. What I did is I scratch the surface of the battery and attached a small piece of paper on the back of the battery to enable it stay firmly in the housing. Since then it has not shut down and the battery is even lasting longer now. I am still observing it and I will bring a feedback later.
