[Q] I can't wipe my phone - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am selling my Nexus S and tried to factory reset my phone before the sale. When I check the Erase USB Storage box and press erase everything I get an "invalid path: null" error message. When I uncheck it and press erase the phone reboots and gets hung up and I have to do a battery pull. Any ideas? Thanks.

just a thought but install PREY on your phone. then go to your computer and set it up to lock/wipe remotely. then select you lost your phoen and wipe it from the app online.
let me know if that helps. thanks

I have the exact same problem too. I'm pretty sure it's why my phone resets at a random time almost daily.
Reporting my phone (even though it's just in an app) as stolen seems unnecessary so does anyone else have a different solution?

[Q] Anroid not Launching

Hi,
I am a newbie to Android. I have no idea how to even start to fix it.
It's only been three days since I received my new phone and its already crashing.
Right now, my OS is not even starting properly
error:
The application Launcher(process com.android.launcher)has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
It flashes every time. Can anyone help me with this?
P.S. I tried connecting the device to the Laptop and the phone wouldn't connect using USB and the Loading circle will circle around and then the phone will go to sleep mode after I power it back on, it still will not be connected.
did you try a factory reset?
go to settings.
go to accounts and sync.
press your google account.
make sure everything is checked off (especially your contacts).
at this point you may want to reboot your phone and give it a few minutes if there were unchecked items that now need to sync with googles servers. After you have done that...
go to settings.
go to privacy.
make sure "back up my data" and "automatic restore" are checked with the green check marks.
then select "factory data reset"
!!WARNING YOU WILL WIPE ALL THE DATA OFF YOUR PHONE. IF YOU DO NOT USE GOOGLE TO BACK UP YOUR CONTACTS YOU WILL LOOSE THEM ALL!!
If you haven't tried this all ready you can give it a try. I have done it 100's of times (in the last year).
I already did this.
I think the launcher is working, but now the USB storage is being detected.
I thought that if I root the phone, it would be easier. I made the phone to Debug mode and my laptop(windows 7) is not recognizing the device.

Weird stuff happening on phone

Hi all, my mom has an Motorola Moto G3 phone. Have noticed many weird things happening on the phone since yesterday.
The notification panel won't slide down. Also, no notifications are displayed in the notification bar, even when there are notifications, like receiving sms or messages on Whatsapp.
The phone has a swipe lock screen. But, the lock screen won't work, even though it shows in Security settings, that there is one.
Calls are being made from the phone, but no calls are being received. For example, if I call the phone, it says that the person is busy and the connection ends. My brother had also tried calling... same thing.
No apps can be downloaded or updated from the Play Store.
I tried to connect the phone to the PC, but, since I cannot slide down the notification panel, there is no way to change the connection mode to transfer data.
I should mention that the storage on the phone was getting close to being filled, and the phone was showing the warning that storage was less and that some of the functions might stop working. So, are these things because of that?
But, I did delete a lot of photos and videos and uninstalled apps, and now there is sufficient storage for the phone to run properly, but it still doesnt work, and these weird stuff are happening.
I suspect from the weird behavior that there might be a virus. Is that so?
What do I do? How will the phone return to sanity? How do I backup the data... if the solution is to factory reset the phone. There are important photos and videos and whatsapp data which I would like to save before performing a reset.
Any help will be appreciated.
A lot to cover there.
First Long press the power button whilst the phone is on.This will reboot to Safemode.See if you can now use a USB Data cable to backup what you need to your PC/Laptop/Tablet.
Note:Some USB cables are,"Charge Only" so check the USB cable is Data transfer capable.
Then if you have a Google account and are connected via Phone data or WiFi go Settings/Accounts/Google and untick and re-tick all sync options to make sure all your Google stuff is updated.
Then do a,"Hard Reset/Factory Restore.
Just put Moto G3 into youtube with the words Hard Reset,
https://www.youtube.com
Although a Hard reset seems like a big move I do one at least a couple of times a year as a kind of 10,000 mile service for my Android phones even if they are running well and it clears out all the junk I tend to accumulate and keeps them slick, fast and problem free.
HTH
Thanks a lot for your reply. Your post comes as a lifesaver.
I took a backup of the data by transferring stuff on to the SD card and then transferring the data from there to the computer.
I had booted in safe mode, but there too the phone showed same behavior. I also noticed that the home button, or the task manager button were not working too.
After taking the backup, I also changed the password for the Gmail account for security, in case the mobile was somehow compromised.
Then I wanted to do a factory reset, but the button seems to be greyed out, and there seems to be no way to perform a soft factory reset. So, your post comes at the nick of time to save me, as I was thinking what to do now. Thanks a ton!
Performed a hard reset of the phone, and the phone is working fine now. Everything is normal.
What might be the reason for such behavior though?
Not being able to lock the phone, install/update apps, factory reset... all this makes me think if it was some kind of malware.
Another reason I can think of is that the storage got full, and so these strange stuff started, but it should go back to normal when stuff was deleted and sufficient storage became available. Still, doesnt explain why lock wouldn't remain.... and other stuff. Really weird.
Modern,"Smart Phones" are very complex computers. With so many apps on them that get updated some updates don't always play nice and mess up the phones. You could spend hours tracking down a single app that might be a cause of a problem.
As you say as well the the storage on the phones might well have got clogged up with old Temporary data that has not been cleared out as it should.
For future reference another trick is to wipe the Cache partition from Recovery mode.I would have suggested this first but as you said space was running out it's best to have a clean start
Yes, it was good to have a clean start with the phone.
Thank you for that trick to wipe the cache partition from Recovery mode. Will keep that in mind.
Thanks a lot again.

Frozen Screen; Retrieve Pictures?

Out of nowhere my S6 stopped working. Each time I restart my phone it gets stuck on the "LTE Plus" screen. I need to figure out a way to retrieve my pictures/videos. I didn't back them up. I checked my Samsung, Google, and One Drive accounts. Below is a list of things I can still do on my phone and things I've attempted. Let me know if you have any ideas.
1. I can soft restart my phone
2. I can restart it into download and bootloader mode
3. I can not start it up in safe mode
4. I wiped cache partition
5. I can connect it to my laptop via USB but it only shows as a bluetooth device. It does not show any options to open up files. The phone was not debugged prior to the phone breaking.
6. I've tried trial versions of Fone Lab and 2-3 other similar programs. Each time with no luck.
Would love to hear your thoughts or ideas. I really don't want to lose these pictures/videos. Thanks!

Question Keyboard isn't showing up. Is factory reset my only smart option?

So, I'm pretty desperate. The other night my phone had shut down. The next morning I tried to open it, dialed my pin and next the phone asks for my password. Well I couldn't type it in because the keyboard wasn't showing up. I restarted it, reboot it in recovery mode, drained the battery just to see if it helps. Nothing. It just won't show up. Went to show it to the shop where I bought it, they didn't really help me much. My brother tried to connect his keyboard with usb-c cable, but the phone didn't recognize it. He also wondered if I could use some sort of USB to get it write the password automatically. I didn't save my stuff in cloud, so yea, no backups. I'll learn. I'm basically weighing my options before factory reset...Do you guys have any ideas?

Other than a factory reset, If you can get into recovery adb sideload your latest firmware and restart the phone. if it continues with the issue go back to recovery and factory reset.

Question ZFlip 3 won't fully boot occasionally

Hello,
I have a ZFlip 3 that will sometimes boot up properly, and then work fine until it turned off again. But sometimes the phone will boot to the "Samsung Galaxy"/"Powered by Android" screen then turn off.
The phone is fully stock/non-rooted.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Try clearing the system cache.
Try in safe mode repeatedly, buggy 3rd party app. If so find it.
Did you do any major firmware upgrades without doing a factory reset afterwards?
Did you use SmartSwitch?
If so factory reset; do a clean load and don't use SmartSwitch.
Look at the Log files or...
A Samsung Experience center at best buys can run advanced diagnostics on it if one is convenient to you.
There
I have had this exact same issue with mine, but when I took it to the repair place they said that the phone had nothing wrong with it. my theory is that some internal process is sending large amounts of data to the cache, its strange because even if I factory reset and clear cache it still goes back into the state after a few hours.
