I had my Asus since Wed and everything was good. Last night I decided for the first time completely turn it off for the night. This morning I hit the power button and it will not boot up to the OS. It right stuck at Asus welcome screen. I try several times and its still hangs at the welcome screen. I had no issues with the update from last week (the one where others were bricking their tablet) Last night it had 50% battery life. Any suggestions?
Anyone? I try the recovery mode and it goes into recovery all I get is the little green android robot with triangle....and after five minutes it reboot by itself and then get stuck at the Asus welcome screen
How long in minuted do you let it sit at the Asus screen and did you have a notice about an update?

Its been sitting at the welcome screen for the last ten minutes. I am able to turn it off and on..but it does not get past the welcome screen. I did that update (which bricking others tablet) two days ago and everything went fine.....Last night was the first time I completely turned it off..and now this.... I dont know what else to do....I try the recovery mode several time and after five minutes it reboot on its own and then goes back to the welcome screen and sits there...... The only thing that works is the sleep mode for the screen. every 5 minutes screen turn off (sleep mode) Asus support suggest I let the battery drain and then try again.....this completely sucks.
You tried the force power off 10-12secs power button trick yet?

I went back and read up on the bricking thread...and instead of trying to go into the recovery mode I did a data wipe and now it working (VOL UP after the prompt) .....I am new to this android thing but just wondering how could this happen? I did install some new softwares yesterday could that have cause this issue? Any way thanks guys for your help
It's pretty rare for an app to make a device need a full reset nowadays, but it can still happen. It's more likely you had some OS bug though to be honest. If your transformer gets into difficulties in the future then try the force power off method as it seems to right quite a few wrongs. Anyways glad you got it working again.
To me it sounds like the update was still actually stored in your memory and ran itself again which is why you saw the android screen with progress bar. Looks like you clearing data got rid of the update file.

I have no idea what happen. Couple of days ago I did drain the battery and it after charging it up it did boot up fine.
This just happened to me......and now my transformer isn't wanting to boot up using volume up+power.
Doh, volume DOWN + power lol. Wiping data, hopefully it fixes it. Hassle though. Gonna have to redownload a bunch of apps now ugh.
Happen again....and it looks like VTL Launcher.1.6.2 is the software that is causing it to not boot up correctly. This is the same app I installed Sat. night and come Sunday after a shutdown it will not boot up. Tried it again today, and its not booting up.....ahhhh
What is this hard boot up you guys talking about? I held onto the power button for 5-6 seconds and I got the Asus EEE pad screen and then get the welcome screen and it just stays there. ahh looks like I have to wipe out the tablet again..not cool at all....... btw after installing VTL Launcher I also set it to default could this be the cause of it not booting up?
Same issue here...
So, I am getting the same problem here...
Wipe works and then it loads the rest of the way, but I cant get it to load without a full wipe.
I do have VTL installed, so that may be the case. I cant imagine that doing it though.
Anyone else have any more information on this?
Thanks!

Yeah my advice dont use VTL.... IF VTL is set as default launcher and if you try to reboot it will get stuck at the welcome screen. The issue is VTL. I am using ADW right now and the issue is gone.

Gotcha... VERY good to know. Do you have any idea if the problem persists when VTL isnt the default launcher but is still installed?

If you dont select VTL as a default launcher then you shouldnt have no issues rebooting your TF even if its installled. Its just annoying cause every time I hit the home button the system ask me which launcher do I want to use. So if you want to use VTL as default then make sure you dont reboot. If you need to reboot then remove VTL as default before rebooting your TF

sounds plausable - i had a similar problem on my HTC Desire with early releases of SPB Mobile Shell. Fine until reboot and then just looped. luckily i had a nadroid i could recover to.
My advice is always keep at least one backup on your device
Fixed: stuck booting when VTL is set as the default launcher.
Yikes found this thread, Why would ASUS make the default launcher so tightly coupled???
Edit: heres the easy fix using adb to uninstall vtl launcher
Install java/adb
plug in your transformer to your PC using the propritary dock->usb cable. Your transformer should be at the ASUS loading page (stuck indefinitely)
install the usb/adb driver. On windows 7 this was automatically downloaded and installed from windows update. size=8.5MB
open a "cmd" window, run this command: "adb devices"
This is what I get and it verifies that adb is talking to the transformer.
Code:
C:\Users\meeeeee>adb devices
List of devices attached
37c624540e14597 device
run this command at the cmd prompt to uninstall VTL launcher. Root not needed, usb debugging needs to be turned on.
Code:
adb uninstall com.vtlab.launcher
you should see a "success message"
Look at your transformer it should be at the login screen.

you'll have to be in Recovery and remove the launcher apk and then reboot.... or wipe data....
I'm running Prime 1.7 I never had any problems with my tablet. It has the creaking and light bleed. I was watching netflix the other day and watched all the way till the battery went completely dead 0%. I got home plugged it in and it charged up all the way but now the screen wont turn on. If i connect it to the mini hdmi i can see everything on the tv but screen still wont turn on.
I've tried:
Fixing Permissions
Clearing Cache
Undoing overclock
Removing SD
Turning it all the way off waiting then turning it back on.
Adjusted the Brightness
Changed Wifi.
I cant factory reset or anything in CWM because it doesn't show up on the tv through hdmi and i cant remember the each button pushes to do it blind.
Any Ideas?
Mine went blank once but that was the adw launcher. Rotating it fixed it and i was able to choose stock launcher. If nothing works you can try screencast to see the recovery on PC if you have Android sdk setup.
Did you try to hold down the Powerbutton till it switches off to make a correct Restart?
When the Tab is running hold the Powerbutton till it's off and wait till it starts again.
Normaly that helps with SOD.

You should press the power button 10 to 15 seconds...
So far nothing worked. I'm on stock launcher also.
I've tried to resetting it over and over still nothing.
I attempted to letting the battery die completely again.
Placed it on the dock and nothing.
Thank you for the suggestions. I will update if i ever solve the issue. I'm going to try screencast, but i never used it before.
I got screencast to open up and running. however it wont work in recovery. ADB recognizes it. I keep getting a blank screen. Any ideas?
I'm thinking the best option would be to nvflash it to stock and RMA it if it doesn't work.
NV Flash
Hi
if nothing else seems to work then NV Flash might be the best idea.
Could you share the BXX(First 3 digits of serial number)?
Thanks
Hi All,
I had ICS installed on my TF101. However yesterday it totally discharged when it was asleep and I had trouble turning it on. I never had this happen with HC. So I decided to go back to HC. I had my tablet rooted and su backed up. Had recovery installed.
I flashed official US HC fw and everything went fine until I tried to reboot the tablet. It's now stuck at the EEE Pad loading logo with the blue bar approximately half filled in. No amount of button combinations does anything. I can't enter Vol + & Pow button to enter ADB, and when I try to enter recovery mode, the white text shows up saying searching for OTA recovery and that's it, still gets stuck at the blue bar.
Any ideas or ways to get to my recovery before I return my 2nd tf101? Thanks!!
(Btw, I'm not a newbie, I would NEVER do this whole thing if ICS was stable and worked like it's supposed to, but I refuse to own a 390$ half working tablet that crashes, has battery drain issue and gfx glitches after the FORCED ICS update!)
Have you tried cold-booting it? (power + vol-, wait untill you get the option to cold boot or wipe)
Also, I dont understand what you mean by "forced ics update". I ran my TF for several days without updating (albeit, with the annoying icon in the notification area).
Although I guess you bought the tablet new and recently Im still going to ask. Whats your serial number (3 first)?

Hi Goatshocker!
I have tried to cold boot it, but it does not allow me to get to the 2 icons you're talking about. When I hold down Vol - & Pow, it shows the regular white letters from bootloader, and gets stuck at the blue loading bar EEE Pad screen.
What I meant by force, is that after 4 delays of the update, ICS will install itself automatically! Even when the tablet is in sleep mode. That's what mine did.
In order to avoid this, the user would have to root his tablet and use Titanium Backup Pro, and disable certain system update processes. Which is NOT for the casual user or for anyone who wants to keep warranty intact.
The s/n I have starts with C2O.
Hi all,
Did the JB update, everything looked good. Decided to do a cold boot (power off, volume down/power, wait) because some people suggested it helped with getting max performance.
Now the notification area does not work anymore. It still shows the time and wifi connectivity, but no 'new mail' notifications, no 'SD card mounted' and I cannot tap it to get to the settings etc. Tried another cold boot, no help. Normal restart, no luck...
Help please? Maarten

did you lock it? do you see a dot in the middle of the bar? if so, tap it and drag it back to unlock.
Ah but that would be too easy... No, I didn't lock it. But its a valid question...

Hmpf, and it is back after, I think, I opened Google play... go figure.
Out of curiosity, how do you do a hard reset on the infinity?

First unmount your SD card. Also remove any widgets on your home screen that toggle wifi, gps etc...Then cold boot your tablet. Once thats done, mount your SD and that should trigger the notification bar pop up.

settings, backup & reset
I just took my 32gb card out and popped it back in. This is annoying that the notification bar would do this in the first place!

I would think hard reset (right term) is reset through a pin hole on the device. Factory reset is considered soft reset!
Did the update, factory reset. Everyhing is buttery. All is well except now the wifi signal indicator in the notification area does not show anything but gray. regardless of signal strength. Shows the bit int he middle of the icon that I take to mean it is transmitting or receiving but no pulsing blue indicating varying signal strength. Not a big deal of course, just wonder why and if anyone else experiences the same.

that's why I don't recommend people to do cod boot unless you have issue. Cold boot on JB is funky, not like .30. On the .30 version, It only could get better, but on JB, I learned a hard way when I did a cold boot and my table started to reboot randomly and give me blank screen.
Interesting... I'm having the same issue every so often, though rare. This didn't happen before the Jelly Bean update.
I always have to turn my unit off with a long press and then back on again and everything is okay. I haven't figured out what's causing the notification area to freeze in the first place. And someone mentioned a dot (icon) in the notification area which means it's locked. I have never seen a dot, ever, in the notification area.
Other than the home screens having the occasional lag (it can be up to a long 10 seconds) when turning from landscape to portrait or vice-versa, and the notification area freezing (rarely), everything is great. No regrets in my purchase, but still disappointing for a $500 device.[/FONT]
Hi all - my TF700 has been solid for about 9 months, but this past weekend the touchscreen started getting wonky and now it will work for 5-10 seconds and then not register any touches, until the power button is toggled to put it to sleep and then wake up and go through the process again. In my research, it appears as if this can be addressed through recalibration of the Touchscreen.
However, I don't even know if that's possible with my current stock/rooted setup. I did try booting into recovery, but I saw the RCK/Android/Wipe Data prompts, and didn't want to go anywhere without knowing what each would do. I'm guessing maybe the Android button, but I'm not sure.
Is there an easier way to recalibrate the touchscreen without doing a factory reset, or going to a new ROM yet?
Thanks!
This may be a hardware problem with the digitizer going bad. I would contact Asus, they probably will recommend a factory reset and you should try that anyway.
But a custom rom will not take care of this problem - at least I do not think this is software related....
Good that you are still under warranty!
FYI:
RCK will boot into the stock recovery which will not do anything unless you have an update file downloaded somewhere on your storage - it'll just show you an Android falling over with it's belly open a ! triangle. Scary if you don't know what it is! LOL
Android will boot you back into your system. This is a so called 'cold boot' and you could try that. I doubt it'll help, but it won't hurt either.
Wipe Data does exactly what it says. You better have everything you care about backed up before you execute that command.
You use the Volume Down button to navigate between the icons and the Volume Up to execute.

Hmmm. after enabling Developer mode (so I could d a Titanium backup), I decided to enable the touch sensing, and what I've found is that it appears as if there is a spot in the northeast quadrant (while holding vertically, with buttons on the right/dock connector on the left) that gets stuck in the 'touched' sense (the little dot sticks, and in the kindle reader, it acts like the text is selected).
Sometimes it gets unstuck when pressing the power button to sleep, and then re-logging in via the lockscreen code I have set. Sometimes it doesn't. I guess I'll contact support and see if I can capture it on video with my phone.
