[Q] Touchscreen re-calibration? - Asus Transformer TF700

Hi all - my TF700 has been solid for about 9 months, but this past weekend the touchscreen started getting wonky and now it will work for 5-10 seconds and then not register any touches, until the power button is toggled to put it to sleep and then wake up and go through the process again. In my research, it appears as if this can be addressed through recalibration of the Touchscreen.
However, I don't even know if that's possible with my current stock/rooted setup. I did try booting into recovery, but I saw the RCK/Android/Wipe Data prompts, and didn't want to go anywhere without knowing what each would do. I'm guessing maybe the Android button, but I'm not sure.
Is there an easier way to recalibrate the touchscreen without doing a factory reset, or going to a new ROM yet?
Thanks!

This may be a hardware problem with the digitizer going bad. I would contact Asus, they probably will recommend a factory reset and you should try that anyway.
But a custom rom will not take care of this problem - at least I do not think this is software related....
Good that you are still under warranty!
FYI:
RCK will boot into the stock recovery which will not do anything unless you have an update file downloaded somewhere on your storage - it'll just show you an Android falling over with it's belly open a ! triangle. Scary if you don't know what it is! LOL
Android will boot you back into your system. This is a so called 'cold boot' and you could try that. I doubt it'll help, but it won't hurt either.
Wipe Data does exactly what it says. You better have everything you care about backed up before you execute that command.
You use the Volume Down button to navigate between the icons and the Volume Up to execute.

Hmmm. after enabling Developer mode (so I could d a Titanium backup), I decided to enable the touch sensing, and what I've found is that it appears as if there is a spot in the northeast quadrant (while holding vertically, with buttons on the right/dock connector on the left) that gets stuck in the 'touched' sense (the little dot sticks, and in the kindle reader, it acts like the text is selected).
Sometimes it gets unstuck when pressing the power button to sleep, and then re-logging in via the lockscreen code I have set. Sometimes it doesn't. I guess I'll contact support and see if I can capture it on video with my phone.

tf300t w/ dock doesn't wake up

I just got my dock and it's wondeful, unfortunately it doesn't wake up with the touchpad or the usb mouse as it does w/ my tf101. I have to press the power button for it. I have latest asus firmware 9.4.3.26-20120416.
I've been looking all over settings controlling this function with no success.
Does anybody have the same issue?
Try settings -> ASUS customized settings -> Mobiledock Powersaving mode, and uncheck that, see if it fixes it.
Already tried that, only works once after rebooting. then just doesn't work anymore. another bug to add to the infamous list of asus android tablets.

do you mean you use TF300 dock with TF101?
because your title is tf300, but you mentioned tf101 in thread...
I reported this bug to Asus. It wouldn't hurt if other people reported it also so maybe they fix it quicker.
When opening my tf300 tablet while connected to the keyboard dock on firmware .17
the screen would wake. Now since the OTA to .26 firmware the screen does not wake
when opening he tablet. I have to push the power button to wake the screen.
Customer support suggested a factory reset which did NOT fix the issue. (I knew it
wouldn't).
Don't have the same issue here since disabling sleep on dock under asus settings.
I also have this problem. I also unchecked dock sleep in asus settings. We are missing something here. We will find it.
well im glade i read ALL THE posts. im currently bumping this to get more attention, i agree , my tf101 turns on when opening the screen as well. my tf300 i noticed it day one NOT doing this. i told my wife this is a really good reason to return it. it bugs hard core.
again the issue is opening the tab with dock the unit wont wake automaticly. closing it turns the unit off right. the lazy side of pressing a button is a nag to me.

Is this happening to everyone on .26 and upwards? I'm still on .17 and my screen turns on every time I open the lid

Mine works correctly as well.
Any idea how much of a battery drain this is though? The description in the ASUS Custom settings for this says it will conserve battery if this feature is disabled. That always worries me.

What version are you running? .17 or upwards?
I updated from .17 to .30 and my tablet no longer turns on when I open the lid

Why these reboots?

I've been having my transformer for 4 days and I installed some apps and nova launcher. I usually use my tab to browse internet or tapatalk but in these 4 days I had a lot of reboot especially when I browser the web with boat browser, or when I try to download a file. The system become unresponsive and then tablet reboots. I'm always in balanced mode. And I use also a custom keyboard (thumb keyboard).
Is there a way to understand wich is the problem or the process that reboots my tablet?
I love my tablet and I don't want to return it if it's a common software issue that could be solved in (near I hope) future.

It might be the Nova Launcher or some other software incompatibility. Try uninstalling some to see if it gets better.

Yes..
You can get instruction for a cold boot here http://www.transformerforums.com/forum/asus-transformer-help/11510-various-quick-fixes-links-help.html
Let us know how it goes..
Yup,
I agree with all others above.
Some of us have a tendency to try a bunch of different crapplications from the play store or wherever.
I always download a bunch of cool sounding stuff...then the tab will start screwing up...then I get rid of everything...then I do the factory reset...then I say to me..."hmmm it's working good now"...then I start all over...
Have fun!
Ok I did a cold boot but what exactly does this method?

I had to shut down and start up my Infinity this evening, because Google Music would not run, it would just open up to a black screen. Closing it out and even stopping the service did not resolve.
I have to do this frequently with Google Maps because if I try to use it, it will close out back to the home screen after launching it and it tries to communicate over GPS.
It would help if ASUS put a restart option when holding the power key button, instead of Shutdown and Cancel.

Actually, It would help even more if ASUS would just fix even the most commonly encountered bugs so we could have a relatively stable system. In particular, the Google Maps problem you described is most likely due to the Nvidia GL kernel bug which Nvidia has had a fix for since April. What excuse does ASUS have for not pushing out updates with fixes for the bugs this serious and well known?

Very True. I have gotten so fast at "Terminal Emulator -> su -> reboot" that I probably wouldn't use it if they added it in

I had purchased the Nook color power button for my old rooted Nook with flaky power button. I put it on my Infinity. . It works great been using for a month no problems. Gives option to sleep Power off. Reboot. Cancel. Also sleep function does put tablet into deep sleep. I also use it on my Bionic. Works on it except for sleep function which Bionics sleep function overrides but does reboot Bionic without going through the Bionics routine of total shutdown then start. This button does not speed up any of these functions but it works remarkably well. It was a I wonder if with my Bionic a few months back and it worked so when I got my tab i figured try and see. lol Just reporting it works for me Thanks

JB: notification area stopped working

Hi all,
Did the JB update, everything looked good. Decided to do a cold boot (power off, volume down/power, wait) because some people suggested it helped with getting max performance.
Now the notification area does not work anymore. It still shows the time and wifi connectivity, but no 'new mail' notifications, no 'SD card mounted' and I cannot tap it to get to the settings etc. Tried another cold boot, no help. Normal restart, no luck...
Help please? Maarten

did you lock it? do you see a dot in the middle of the bar? if so, tap it and drag it back to unlock.
Ah but that would be too easy... No, I didn't lock it. But its a valid question...

hard reset perhaps.
Hmpf, and it is back after, I think, I opened Google play... go figure.
Out of curiosity, how do you do a hard reset on the infinity?

First unmount your SD card. Also remove any widgets on your home screen that toggle wifi, gps etc...Then cold boot your tablet. Once thats done, mount your SD and that should trigger the notification bar pop up.

settings, backup & reset
I just took my 32gb card out and popped it back in. This is annoying that the notification bar would do this in the first place!

I would think hard reset (right term) is reset through a pin hole on the device. Factory reset is considered soft reset!
Did the update, factory reset. Everyhing is buttery. All is well except now the wifi signal indicator in the notification area does not show anything but gray. regardless of signal strength. Shows the bit int he middle of the icon that I take to mean it is transmitting or receiving but no pulsing blue indicating varying signal strength. Not a big deal of course, just wonder why and if anyone else experiences the same.

that's why I don't recommend people to do cod boot unless you have issue. Cold boot on JB is funky, not like .30. On the .30 version, It only could get better, but on JB, I learned a hard way when I did a cold boot and my table started to reboot randomly and give me blank screen.
Interesting... I'm having the same issue every so often, though rare. This didn't happen before the Jelly Bean update.
I always have to turn my unit off with a long press and then back on again and everything is okay. I haven't figured out what's causing the notification area to freeze in the first place. And someone mentioned a dot (icon) in the notification area which means it's locked. I have never seen a dot, ever, in the notification area.
Other than the home screens having the occasional lag (it can be up to a long 10 seconds) when turning from landscape to portrait or vice-versa, and the notification area freezing (rarely), everything is great. No regrets in my purchase, but still disappointing for a $500 device.[/FONT]

New Builder Question - Part II

So finally, after 2 months of barely being able to pick up my tablet because of work, I've been able to start playing around with building again. I've been able to build CM with that's kernel inline, and with some preinit scripting it runs great except for two issues.
First, and probably easiest to solve, I can't get any of the reboot commands to work. Regardless of hitting power off or reboot recovery, the tablet simply reboots. If it was happening in a language I'm more familiar with, I'd think it's not passing a variable to whatever controls the shutdown routine. But, I don't know if that's the issue or even where to look.
The second problem is more annoying and perhaps harder to diagnose, I have random screen blackouts. Things will continue to run in the background, but the screen goes dark. Hitting the power button will bring it back, and promptly lock the screen (apparently hitting the volume button also works as I just found out). It happens intermittently, I could go for an hour with no issues, and then have multiple blackouts over the course of the next 10 minutes. Makes it difficult to get a logcat when you never know if it's going to happen.
So I turn to this wonderful community for help once again. Anyone have any thoughts on what to try?
Thanks in advance,
Psudeke

2 asus tf700 will not boot...only vibrate

I have to Asus tf700 that will not boot they were only vibrate when you push the on button. One is rooted with zombie and the other is stock I get a display on the rooted tablet on the monitor I have connected through HDMI and I am able to navigate on the tablet with the keypad attached. The other one stock unit I am NOT able to get a display on my monitor I have truck I have tried holding the on button and depressing the up and down volume keys no joy. I have tried pushing the manual reset button in the little hole on the side of the tablet. No joy. Is there anyone that can help me thank you in advance for your help.
I'd like to add that both tablets had their batteries drained and his condition appeared after I attempted to recharge them and start them up. Thanks again
Both of them started t do this at the same time???? Did you have power surge when you were charging them? Thunderstorms?
Very strange...
Anyway, if the rooted tablet boots normally and only the display is dead, it's exactly that: the backlight is out and you need a new screen.
The stock unit: Not much yoou can do with a locked bootloader. Can you get it into the bootloader menu with Power +Vol Down?
If not, there's not much more you can do. But you can cannibalize the sceen andput it into the rooted unit!

Restarts as soon as it enters recovery
Hi, my tablet froze last night and could not get out of the frozen screen, so I forced a restart , only to have it boot loop.If I try to go to recovery it just gets to the Twrp image and restarts again.
any help is appreciated.Unit cannot shut down and gets hot at the top left hand corner.Tried to hard reset using the side reset but to no avail.
Thanks.
This is happening a lot lately.... What rom and TWRP version are you running?
Check out the last few pages of the Katkiss Katshmallow thread. That's where we successfully solved this lately.
But I would really like to find out what's causing this. Can you try to access the tab in adb while it's looping in recovery?
Try to pull the recovery log and dmesg log.

Hey, I'm experiencing the same issue right now.
In my search I found this:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/as...216663-tf700t-now-won-t-turn-post2270270.html
I plugged it into my pc and after a short period, pressing the power button showed a battery icon in the red zone. so I'm going to leave it plugged in overnight.
