[Q] extreme noob... need help - HTC Sensation

I am hoping I can get step by step instructions so I can put custom roms on my HTC sensation. Do I need a new radio? S-off? Recovery? I'm a little scared but I definitely want the most out of my phone. Please be as detailed as possible and please don't assume I know anything. Thank you for your time, info, and patience.

Search. Read. There's like 10 posts like this every day.
There is a detailed sticky in the development section.
I mean seriously what more do u want? If ur scared don't do it.
Sent from my SENSATIONal 4G using Xda App.

Really? Don't think that was necessary. I'm just trying to get detailed instructions. Ive searched and read. Most posts are very nice but they assume you know the basics. Just want an "front to back" if possible.

Dude seriously, there is a guide just for noobs if you search. Nobody is gonna flash it for you son.

The guide is as detailed as possible, what else do you need? How to press a button? How long to press it?

Wow... never mind. I have looked and looked and maybe I just haven't came across the right post. I'm trying people. Forgive me for being ignorant I guess. Guess saying please and thank you is no longer appreciated. Forget it. Geez...

You asked a question which is answered at least once or twice everyday, what do you expect? On top of that there's a sticky thread on the development section which only needs copy and pasting.

2 PEOPLE JUST TOLD U WHERE TO FIND THE THREAD! ARE U SERIOUS.?!?!?

There is a link in the development section. I followed it and did everything in about 1-2 hours. Good luck. I found that the biggest hurdle in the process was my computer detecting the phone. So if you need drivers go download the HTC Sync.

I am in need of a guide on how to go pee in the toilet in my house. Any help?
Any way, here is a good idea. If there is something that you are having a hard time understanding. Like the meaning of a word. Let's take for instance the word s-off. All you have to do is open a browser and type in Google. What is s-off. You will get a definition for it. So, go to the sticky in the forums that explains how to root and
ROM your cell. And open a separate browser and use it to understand the words that you are having a hard time knowing. I had a problem in the beginning also. I am the type of person that needs to know why and how instead of just doing what the directions plainly spell out for us. It's not that I couldn't do it without knowing why things are the way that they are. I just needed the comfort of the knowledge behind it all. And now, I am desperately trying to figure out how to become a developer. All while raising a family and working ridiculous hours. But, I have a so called smart phone. And a tablet. So, basically I have a plethora of knowledge at my finger tips at almost any time. You have to understand some people's frustration with these questions. It gets dauntingly overwhelming more and more every day. The forums are not welfare. They are not something to be taken lightly. And we are never to expect that everything should be handed to us. If some one here was to explain in absolute detail and hold your hand through the entire process. You would not learn much and you would not get the most out of your phone. You can only get the most out of it when you feel the satisfaction of knowing that you put some real time into getting it to work just so for your needs. Otherwise, you will truly not appreciate it. Also, if hand holding went on every day, then it would become an expectation of every other no dev that they deserve help. Kind of like the majority of life long welfare recipients. They get offended when it gets taken away and they feel entitled to it. I know, because I know some one that views it that way. Because things have been handed to them almost all there life. It's not cool. Now, go and read until you are confident that you can do this. It truly is a very easy thing. It seems overwhelming. But when you look back, you will say to turn self. Realty? I actually tried to get people to help me to do this? You will feel ashamed. But at the same time you will feel accomplished and will be able to possibly give back to the community in some way. Any way, that is just how I see it.

If you put that much energy into being helpful as you just did being a jerk, maybe people like me would see how easy it really is. I've successfully flashed roms on my hd2, im just a little intimidated by the whole s-off thing so bite me. Thanks xdalite for being civilized. To everyone else, I'm a woman who is slightly hesitant to risk bricking a $400 phone. I realize everyone takes that risk, but because I only know how to do it one way, I wanted comments that were directed toward me and not on a general post. I'm not an idiot. Forgive the little people, oh wise ones.

MAn just click the Link in my signature and get to the guide. ITS NOOB PROOF!
I apologise on behalf of other users . everyone was a noob once, android, what the hell is android??? that what i said exactly 10 months ago. never used it before that, ive come a long way now!
If you follow the guide, the risks are very minimal.
Whatever u do, do not do step 5 of the guide, there is a risk of bricking, i semi-bricked but recovered.
steps 1 - 4 of my guide
i have yet to find someone who has bricked it using those steps, and i dont think u will be the first either

Thank you so very much. I'm going to try it today. Seriously ... thanks so much.

What happened to XDA?

I realize this isn't the most correct place to post this, but apparently, everyone should read this.
I've been involved with the xda modding community for over 4 years. When I came to xda-devs, the iphone didn't exist. Android didn't exist. WebOS didn't exist. If you wanted a "smart phone" your choices were PalmOS, Pocket PC, and a few Symbian based offerings. It's quite possible that the expense and, for lack of a better word, elitism that went with these smart phones meant that "commoners" weren't using them. Especially, they weren't modding them.
In those days, devs were respected. There certainly wasn't this big entitlement feeling that every tom, ****, and harry feel they are owed today. This site was started and grew based on people wanting to develop for these phones. We wanted them to do more. For the most part, if you didn't have anything to contribute, you understood to stfu. Even more important, if you saw a need, you worked to fill it. Many of the guys that started this community STARTED learning because of it. Sure, you'll have questions. Questions are good. The flaming of each other, the putting down of other sites, and the general dickery needs to stop.
It's sad that I look at xda with disdain these days. XDA has gone from a site that I spent most of my day on, and worked to assist where I could, to a necessary evil because I own an HTC device.
I'm thankful to all of the Android devs for their work in rooting so many phones. Thank you HTC for making a phone that works so well, I'm not completely sure I need or want to root it. Thank you XDA for providing a location where we can COLLABORATE.
To all of you kids (either by age or maturity) look up the definition of collaborate, patience, and "common decency"). Please stop being rude, and or demanding... anything. We don't need 30 extra posts to tell us "I'm Not Happy about X" or "User Y is a dork". It's useless. Put it on your myspace page, people may care there.
And to the elitists, don't knock people for thinking of an idea that someone else already tried. At least they are thinking. At least they are trying. And hopefully, they'll learn and take on the next challenge in your stead.

I feel you pain, this place used to be a comminty of people all over the world, that were here to help. And we all shared one commen goal, to make our phones the best they could be. It really does sadden me to see what has happend. No body is owed anthing. and for some reson everyone feels like they are.
You used to be able to asked a question without getting flamed to death, people and devs would help you with any problem you had, and now..... its just ridiculous the way people are acting. Its not just here, its on all the android forums that i have seen. so dont think that its just here.
To everyone that has helped make this site the best, thank you. And to the rest of you, please leave go somwere else, your kind is not welcome here.

What happened? Someone reported something that was untrue? Or a bunch of people got excited about a sketchy report of root/a mod. That has happened a bunch on XDA. Stick around and it'll happen a bunch more. People make mistakes, hello! We had several overclocking threads that were false starts in G1/Dream. Guess what? People kept trying and eventually, it got done. The people who were *****ing, however, just produced more *****ing--and my my phone does not install non-market *****ing
Ummm...but why is this thread in the development thread?

I'm not saying it's okay to act like a ****, I'm saying it's largely a lost cause. I got sick of people acting like dicks on another, general-purpose, forum, so I left to try to find some place where people were civil. I gave up when I saw someone on an Android banned for rageposting over cell phone batteries.

Simply because this is where XDA lost face in the eyes of many yesterday. Its not just the sites fault though. Members had a lot to do with it. I'm sure because yesterday was a holiday is the reason it took some time for the Mods to get a handle on things.
I give thanks to the OP for posting here.

I think it is very important to understand where xda came from. This site began with people that not only helped us mod our phones, but were willing to teach us to mod our phones. That way, when the next phone came out, you had more people working to mod the phone.
I put this in a developer thread because development is a large driving force behind xda.
XC
People need to learn to just report a thread instead of fighting over what's posted in it. Mods will help sort things out I'm sure. We all need to just work together on making this site better and learn from the mistakes of others. The Incredible's development will get better in time its a fairly new device if you think about it. IMO its very nice stock. Keep up the great work Devs and for those who don't dev do your part in making this site a place for ppl to want to come to share and learn.

Although I have not really posted here much, I have been around since the Palm Treo 650 days (loved that damn phone btw) and have always had a deep sense of respect for all the developers here who dedicate their time and efforts to making a smartphone more powerful and more useful outside the stock features. Being a member of the iPhone community for so long, I have had no reason to come to these forums for quite a while so I've been out of the loop. Now that I own a droid incredible, I was led back here by a simple "how-to-root your android" Google search. Since that time, I have seen a lot of commotion about the Incredible.
I am not and never will be able to develop, write code, or become a linux genius. I have been a linux admin for years, but never had a need or want to go into development. That being said, I have always respected those who have the ability to develop software, apps, images, etc.
I think the main problem on these forums now, is too many kids and too many people who expect something to be handed to them rather than be grateful for what they are given. Then again, that's pretty much anywhere you go in the world. The only thing we can do as a community is choose how we respond to these situations. Like adults....
Thanks.

Sadly, I'm seeing these types of issues everywhere. The last 4-5 years has really created a new generation of people that think they can get away with saying whatever they want online. Think of it as the Myspace gen, if you will.
It's painful to say it, but honestly... it's not going to get any better.

Generation T, as in toilet trained below the waist only. Their mouths seem to run constantly, and not even their spell checkers have been opened . . .
It's easy to bash wee tykes. Been happening since antiquity. Hard to root an Incredible, tho. We just need somebody to get a reman unit that still has a testing bootloader installed!

I can say the same about Hofo (on which I go by a different name..)
I started there, reading, absorbing, learning.. To pay it back, I started helping others when/where I could. I eventually started a collection of instructions, and writing up info I digested to make it easier for new people to just dive in and learn to do it themselves. I even met (in person) someone I met on hofo, and we worked to create a set of repeatable processes to flash moto phones with non-VZW firmware.
I saw it go from a great site to learn, to a place you're going to get flamed, called names, disrespected, etc... Thankfully, the birth of my son took me away from my cell phone hacking and Hofo just at the right time.
As I visit this, hofo and other sites, I can't help but think they are all becoming the same... a bunch of people who feel entitled to have this or that NOW and if they don't get it, they gripe up a storm about it, call people names, etc..
Its sad.
Is it really getting that bad? I haven't signed into this site since my old PPC6700 days, so I haven't taken a look at the Entitled Generation posts, but I'll be sure to keep an eye out.

AMEN ! NOOBs need to read and research more rather than demanding everything be handed to them.
I think this thread is a bit dramatic. "What happened to XDA?" Well, nothing really. There's just a huge influx of new people who know just enough to be dangerous and really want root (and look at the average post count, mine is low enough but every other person I see discussing this has less than 20 posts). The Incredible is one of if not THE hot phone on the market, so I'm not surprised it's like a circus in here. Due to recent events that I will not dare mention, It's like the scene in Caddyshack when they let all the caddys swim in the pool and run all the "members" off. And over the weekend someone took a dump in the pool and caused mayhem/panic...
If the mods would get more strict - short temp bans for people who are very rude, and maybe also for people who can't stay on subject or at least delete the off subject posts, and get rid of all the "why is my battery life bad" threads then the Dev section may improve. Perhaps make a rule that says you can't post in this section unless you have a certain number of posts? I don't know. It was just a bad weekend. It will get back to normal.

No gain no pain!!

1. Rooting the inspire is pretty easy if you know how to read and follow instructions.
2. If you were stuck, there are many people willing to help i.e. ClearD. Post in the right section tho lol.
3. You didn't need to make a thread about this nor does it belong in this section

You are very wise. If it seems too much, then it probably is. Keep reading though. And I am surprised by your comment about replies. This is one of the BEST sites for ROM development. The members are extremely responsive to questions.
if you can read and like pictures/videos/youtube than rooting will be a breeze. just follow the steps and pause the video and proceed. it may take a little longer than expected but a working phone is better than a coaster.
Rooting is so worth it. If you're ready to root. If you're not then don't. No need to rush into it. The more days that pass, the more new ROMs and other cool stuff comes out so it will all be here when you're ready and already tested for you.
i thought it was easy enough, i used that little GUI software that walks you through the whole thing. as long as you can follow directions its not hard.
It is not hard, 99% of the issues come from people not following directions.
It is much easier than it seems
It's not that hard. Watch the youtube video that pretty much walks you through attn1 hack kit.

newbie about to buy viewsonic g tablet, questions, totall beginer here

so im about to do it. been wanting a tablet for some time and as nice as the xoom looks for 1/2 the price this make sense.
can a newbie root? i dont know the first thing about programming. ive searched the forums, and i see roms, and all these things i dont even know what they are. TNT programs, which sound not so newb friendly lol....and i want to know if there is a basic root that i may be able to follow. root for dummies is what im looking for.
and also, if i screw this up can i revert back to the original way this thing was?
sorta nervous to order and not use it to the fullest potential but seems like without rooting its not worth a crap.
i know probably asked 100 times, but ive searched and just cant find basic rooting 101 concepts. read the faqs - nothing so straight forward that i found.
thanks in advance. if i find the support i need here which seems likely im going to order the viewsonic shortly
First, welcome!
And then...
Start here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245
This was the post that helped me the most. Have you rooted and installed new ROMs on Android devices before? It's not difficult, but does require that every last instruction is read. Twice. And look at posts about people "bricking" their tablets to see what they might have done wrong, or what they had to do to fix their problems. Don't worry about rooting; I've rooted a MyTouch 3g, a TMobile Vibrant and this tablet and it was the easiest by far. I'd like to say that the stock software sucks, but I can't. I purchased this tablet because I knew I would be rooting and ROMing and only had about ten minutes in the store and ten minutes at home with the original software. It wasn't horrible, but I do know that Vegan 5.1 flies and is very stable.
READ READ READ and search your face off for your problems before posting. Many people frown on oft asked questions here. I see a lot of people writing about how easy it is to search to get your answer, but I'm not a fan of the XDA search function for many reasons. So, Google is your friend. When searching Google, be sure to state your issue clearly and concisely, and in as few words as possible. Oh, but do include "XDA" in your search, or "site:forum.xda-developers.com" if you want to only search the XDA Developers forum.
Happy modding!
(1) We don't mind newbies, although it's nice if they actually respect the hard work of the people here by pressing the shift button to capitalize where appropriate. It would also be appreciated if they don't use run-on sentences.
(2) We highly recommend against modding for people like you. Just turn it on, update what viewsonic has for you, and everything will run just fine. We recommend you play with the gtab for a while before taking the plunge.
(3) You don't need to know programming to root. This thread will give you step by step instructions on how to do the essential things of modding. These instructions are so easy even a cave man could do it.
(4) That said, again, their stock rom + update should be good enough for someone like you. I have 2 gtabs. I've modded one and kept the other one as is. Trust me, it's more than sufficient for your needs.
thank u!!! im going to review that. now thats a detailed step by step which couldnt be answered easily but somehow seems doable for a newbie thanks. brings me closer to ordering.

goodintentions - I was thanking adampdx but appreciate your input as well. I read his reply and his link provided and at first glance it seemed helpful. With that said, I also appreciate you letting me know the stock VS GT is pretty good and perhaps I will leave it as is when I get it. People make it out to be like this thing is so unsable out of the box, which apparently isnt the case. I just want to be able to get to the market and download a few apps I like using on my droid pro phone, thats all. Additionally I will use capitals and try watching the run on sentences. I think your whole thing is condescending, including that rant you posted in the General section about the "wooters". If you wanted to be helpful you could do a write up and review about the stock ROM and make suggestions of what to do to make it better. This singling out of a group of people is rude and dangerous. You create an environment that is hostile and discourages fresh ideas. There are always kinder words to use and gentler ways to guide people.

Not to mention there be members who may not use English as a primary language and therefore may not be familiar with all of its intricacies. Respect begets respect. You get more when you offer more.
Well, here is my thought on why people are giving it such bad reviews.
(1) They compared it to the ipad right out of the box. Yes, the stock UI isn't the greatest thing, but it's usable. And after the update, it should work just fine.
(2) People were expecting an ipad when they bought this device. This is why I've been repeating over and over that this ain't no ipad.
(3) People have money coming out of their ears, so they want the bests and greatests. The slightest disadvantage and they will make it sound like the tablet exploded or something.
(4) Which brings me to my next point. People like to exaggerate.
I've always been a simple person. I like to work with what I have. I also hate Apple products with a passion. I only own one Apple product. I got my ipod (30 gig one) as a gift years ago. I've been thinking for a while to look for something that is light weight so I could drag it along for work and other activities. My laptop seems like it weighs a ton some time. That said, after I've done the appropriate moddings and installed the apps I wanted, the viewsonic gtab seems like a dream come true for me. It works incredibly fast. I didn't buy this thing to watch videos and listen to music. I have my tv and ipod for that. That said, I really think viewsonic is sitting on top of a goldmine with this device. I don't know why they haven't done more to publicize it.

Not to mention there be members who may not use English as a primary language and therefore may not be familiar with all of its intricacies. Respect begets respect. You get more when you offer more.

Oh, please, I can tell the difference between a non-engrish speaker and someone who's just lazy. I'm a non-native english speaker. In another thread, I mentioned that I was born in a house with a dirt floor and grew up with a 4 inch black and white tv. I wasn't kidding.

Well, I apologize if what I said offended some people. But what I stated was a fact. Because of all the exaggerated reviews of how god-aweful the stock UI and screen are, average people get the wrong idea. They feel that they have to mod the device the moment they get their hands on it.
All I'm suggesting people do is give the updated stock rom a chance. Give it a few days before they decide to take the plunge. There's really no prettier way to say it.

Good job for picking that up, considering I was born and grew up in eastern Asia... nice going with the nitpick.
You don't have to be white to be racist or self-hating.
Ah, all of this being said, I do think this whole thing is funny and a giant waste of time. I've also been noticing that the forums seem sluggish, and I'm getting strange messages from the server from time to time about not being able to load forum pages. I think all of our babble is bogging down the servers. And with the impending onslaught of wooters, we should probably knock it off.

Annoyed with HTC inspire

If there is anyone out there can help me root my HTC inspire 4g. I tried everything and nothing is working. I just want to get rid of these useless apps and better battery life cause right now this phone is useless. Please help

Read the sticky in General. It has vids and all the informatiomn you need.
Best thing I can tell you, before you get flamed for that post, is read. Also, you need to be more specific with your issue. If you want someone to hand hold you through the process, your probably not going to find the help you are looking for. Reading and searching are your friends. I am not being mean in anyway. People have gotten flamed in the past for a post like that. First, you didn't say if you've already searched. Second, you mention very little detail of your problem. Third, you don't mention which rooting method you are using and where you are in the process. Just on the last point alone, I think you are trying to have someone walk you through the process. In which case, you don't need to root if you won't take the time to read, read, and read again, and try the process yourself. Not trying to jump on ya, just from your post it seems like you are not even trying to help yourself first. If you have a genuine issue, please, give us more detail to make an effort to help you.

So... The phone is useless as it is? Why would you buy a useless phone?
Because you didnt discover it was useless until it was too late, like, after 31 days of having it?
Don't blame the phone for your inability to do what 90% of the people in these sections of XDA managed to do just fine.
Now, maybe you should go do a little reading.
Then, if, after you've made an honest attempt to figure it out using the plethora of resources at your disposal here, you still run into problems, and are willing to provide a little more insight into the nature of your specific problem, people might be a bit more willing to lend a hand.
Good luck!
Man rooting an inspire is not that hard. You just need to follow directions. Read up on the root methods available watch the videos choose your preferred method read the tutorial and watch the video AGAIN then do it. 99% of the time it will work. I used the hack kit But ive heard bubbys works great too. My inspire was rooted 20 mins after I got it. But I read and watched the videos long before it arrived. It really isnt something you should just decide to do on a whim. You should really understand the process and what each individual step does before attempting.

Hes right,
The main part of being successful with these devices is everything he said, you really shoud read, read, watch whatever it takes to be totally sure about the process. You must be very careful if its your first time, and at the same time, ive learned, you cant let it intimedate you, it will be much harder and that much easier to mess up. If you do all these things and are still not sure or dont feel right about doing it, find somone close to you that can.

Well, for one thing, if by "omnipitant" you mean *omnipotent*, then you probably *really* meant *omniscient*, so I understand what you meant. I think.
What I don't understand, however, is why you think that someone who doesn't know how to root shouldn't be expected to know how to search for information about rooting.
Perhaps you might better explain to me your logic?
Ok, your right. I should have been more direct.
By "omnipotent" i ment -all knowing.
My point is. People will never stop asking for help on this site, it will just never happen, nor will they ever stop being ignorant, ie. Not reading enough not following directions. I understand it gets old, but its one thing if hes new, its another if this is the 5th time hes been told. I just think you took the wrong approach at teaching him, there is such a thing as positive reinforcement, hes already frustrated, treating him like hes an idiot will get us all no where, well, most of us. We were all new at some point or another
Now, what does not seem even a tad bit logical to me is, getting offended over a damn cell phone

Sad thing is though if he searched he would have seen everyone else getting flamed for this exact same question and type of post. This they didn't know how to search and cant get past the clutter thing isn't an excuse.
coming from the droid incredible and hero before it.. the inspire is alittle more difficult to root. but if u say take 30 mins out of your day its not that bad.. just stay focused and read and go slow and you will be on your way..

What he is saying is retarded. You did nothing wrong. noobs are expected to read. End of story. If they do not and post anyways, then they should be subject to the redicule that comes with such a blatently assinine posting. Baler is wrong to call anyone out... .. Scotts one of the most helpfull nice peeps here.

It probably looked like I was jumping on the guy because I was. A little. Thin skins don't do well, here, though.
There's nothing wrong with defending someone, when appropriate, I've done it I think, maybe a total of 3 or 4 times, all cases where a user was unfairly blamed for something or was made to feel like they weren't a worthwhile contributor or called a name because they weren't able to answer someone's question to their satisfaction.
All I'm saying is that XDA is less noob-centric than other forums. That's not to say noobs shouldn't come here to learn...I lost my basic noobness here (and I say basic, 'cause I don't know half the **** some people here do) ... Just that there's an expectation to fulfill some prerequisite familiarization with one's device, and to be at least a little proficient in problem-solving on one's own before posting.

Bricked one phone.. Got replacement. Need Help

Okay so I had a G2x and tried rooting it and I think i did something wrong. With all these instructions ramble on about one thing and another hard for me to really understand all the correct steps.
So can I please have someone give me a hand with this? As in a step by step process of everything? This is my second G2X brand new from T-Mobile has the Gingerbread 2.3.3. So if anyone can actually tell me step by step and what files I am going to need so I don't brick this one because 300USD is getting expensive.
u payed for ur replacement? lol
use the one click flash nvidia tool, to flash the clockworkmod, you dont evne have to root it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kG08Uc8pQT0
yeah I had to pay for a second one. GRRR T-Mo actually checks their phones with sprint if I bricked or something just dip it in water and send it in. They would never check to see if you rooted it. So anyways do I install Clockwork or only do the steps in the video with the nv flasher?
And whats the best rom? I really like the looks of MIUI sorta looks like my wifes iPhone.
i think you screwed yourself on this one... this phone is like virtually unbrickable, nvflash should be able to bring you out of any soft bricks you might run into and ive run into a fair share of them and never had a problem...
i would recommend you sift though the development section and read all of the tutorials and have a very good understanding of what you are doing instead of having someone spoonfeed you everything when you really dont know what you are doing... (im a high school math teacher and cannot stand it when students are just spoonfed information because in the end they really dont understand what they are doing)
start here though http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847
Yeah, what he said. maybe you shouldn't be messing with your phone if you don't understand the implications.

Best thing I've ever read. It helps shine a light on why so many people almost daily are asking for help on how to do something when this forum is riddled with tutorials. I personally stopped helping months ago with any questions on how to root or flash or just anything that there are tutorials for. It just gets crazy redundant.

Then why even post in here? Don't be a ****. Even more frustrating than people who can't use a search feature are people too uptight and high-strung to help someone. Yeah, maybe the OP could have found the answer himself. But he's obviously been following a tutorial (likely in this very forum) that's not working for him (hence his replacement phone). The guy just needs two seconds of help from someone. In the amount of time it took me to copy/paste the following links, I could have torn him a new one thirty times over. But I'm not a ****. So, if you absolutely HAVE to post here, at least make it constructive. Incessant *****ing does no good for anyone.
To the OP:
Firstly, you'll need to flash CWM. This is super simple, given you're on a PC. If you're on Mac, things will get tricky (i.e. virtual Linux environment, headaches, etc).
Next, you can find an easy to follow rooting method here. It even has an unroot .zip option given you have to send your phone in again (will save you another $300 ).
And of course, you can PM me if you need any help. If these are the steps you have already followed, here's a YouTube video with some visuals. When I'm stuck on something, that usually helps me a lot.

I simply stated that he should have a holistic understanding of what hes doing before he starts tinkering because the figure it out as you go method can lead to a 300 dollar paper weight. Not to mention I pointed him in the right direction to start....
All I did was give a bit of advice that I felt was in his best interest and then sent him on his way...

They are being difficult. What they realize is that the OP has already stated that he's bricked one device because he cannot follow directions. He obviously does not know what he's doing, and has problems following instructions because, as he put it..they go on and on... In the end even if he successfully roots his phone, he may wind up causing himself problems by having access to system files because it's obvious he doesn't really know what he's doing. Everyone shouldn't root. If you cannot follow the simple instructions to root without "bricking" a device, and you cannot follow simple instructions to bring the device back to an operational state, then perhaps rooting is not for you (OP). It just sounds like he is going to cause himself even more problems.

I can't believe no one has said this yet.
Most phones have water sensors, so dipping it in water would just void the warranty. Sorry if you were joking. But as many have said, it's pretty easy to flash the phone back to normal so the TMobile doesn't know it's been hacked. Did you ask here first?
I am thankful for all the responses. Sorry if I caused grief and headache to anyone. I was finally able to get my phone rooted giving the information that someone provided to me on here. I sent him a PM to personally thank him.
By all means I should probably be *****ed at if I don't follow instructions very well. I have always considered myself a visual learner. If I don't have hands on and able to see it done, it really complicates things for me. I guess you can call it a disability.
Anyways I have come from a long line to HTC which I can say is way different in rooting then these phones. I root them to begin with to get rid of all the stupid software T-Mobile places in my phone and to normally switch to CM7 which I have found out is giving me problems which I am currently trying to figure out.
So please negative comments and put downs are always accepted it comes with the questions. But I don't want to sound like an ass or anything when I say this because I mean it in the upmost respect to everyone, but isn't this a forum? A community forum?
Someone once had to show you, all I did was ask for the same help. And this whole GSM network ways of doing things is different from my typical Sprint CDMA network that I am used to. Everything was pretty much the same when it came to that.
Again please I AM VERY SORRY truly if I caused any problems. Please don't be upset at me. Thanks.
I don't think anyone is upset with you. We're all here to contribute and help. Have fun with your rooted G2X

I've never heard so much whining and holier than thou bs. I'm surprised we have any devs, ungrateful bunch of *****es. Wah, nvidia never, wah, everyone else has ics, wah, that noob asked a question, wah, I suck. I love my g2x, it's a typical musclecar, way over powered and finicky as hell. The g2x is not a beginners device, this is for big boys and girls. I wonder what the whiners would do if they owned a ferrari? Newsflash, they break down, a lot! I remember when xda was where you went for help and support, now I come here to be entertained by the ignorance of the know it alls. Go ahead, blast me, I'm a writer for an Android website and I'll make it painful. OK, then, how bout all these new roms and updates? It's like the g2x is reborn. Hey, wait a minute, I thought the g2x was a useless, unsupported piece of ka ka? Frickin morons!

Well first I am glad you were able to fix the phone however I understand knowledgeable people get frustrated because this phone is simple to root. With a phone that has been out this long there is no reason anyone can not find out what to do on there own.
There are so many YouTube videos and forums like this. You are not the second person to too your phone or to brick it so why create a new post looking for help when you can simply Google it. I know your lazy and expect someone else to do your work for you.

See plenty of info on the subject I am sure one of these other people have been helped.
This is why devs are tired of these questions they have been answered over and over. You may find this mean to say but you most likely found this forum by using Google so use it to fix your phone. Stop wasting peoples time by being lazy and use your head.

The problem is this. Ppl dont know how to research their issue. Also ppl in our generation cant seem to follow directions worth ****. I was the same way. I learned on my g1. Rooted it successful and then bricked my friends. Over the years ive learned alot about computers/phone/cdma flashing. Playing with the big boys. You develop problem solving skills that you can apply outside of this. It truly makes you smarter. So yea. Maybe we are know it all asses.
