[Q] can you ? - WebOS Software and Hacking General

Like most of us, I bought a couple of touchpads. I'm loving the OS, but it lacks apps. I was wondering if its possible to download free paid apps yet ? I would pay for apps but the paid apps are not even that good.

Hmm, I was thinking the the app quality for the touchpad was actually quite high, I'm just leery of spending cash on any apps just to turn around and put android on it.

I put the touchpad in developer mode so I can install anything now. If you guys need help with that I'll make a thread.

Need to install Preware - then you can install all the Homebrew stuff (patches and tweaks) as well as install raw IPK files.

Please do. We are all going to need to know this if the app store dies. Also can we capture and archive the ipk files we download from the app store in case we need to reinstall a purchase app without the app store.

Amazon Market Install Info (without root)

Hey all.
I was able to install the Amazon App Market using adb, so I imagine that Sideload Wonder Machine will work. Sign up for AAM the normal way, then retrieve the apk from your "download" folder and install using adb/SWM.
Once installed, the AAM app should work, and so it will allow you to purchase and download apps. However, it would not install my downloaded apps because of AT&T's [insert swear words] lockdown. The workaround was to mount the phone as a drive, copy the apk files from <sdcard>/Android/data/com.amazon.venezia/cache to my computer, unmount the phone, and then install the apk files with adb. (I imagine the slashes go the other direction if you're on Windows; I use GNU/Linux, so I don't know for sure.)
Do note that removing the AAM app will make the software stop working (or at least it did on my phone).
Yeah removing the App, or even signing out of it, will cause any app downloaded through the Amazon appstore not to run because the drm requires you to be signed in so it can verify. So if you're not signed in, or you remove the appstore, the apps you installed through it are pretty much useless.
On another note, I saw that Amazon and AT&T are "working" on a resolution... it'll be really interesting to see what their workaround is, since AT&T locks down the third-party app installs.

I am sure the "resolution" would have to involve some form of revenue sharing since AT&T is not going to get involved unless there's monetary gain for them. Whatever it may be, if it involves a software update it will more then likely unroot your phone and reinstall all AT&T bloatware so I'd wait it out until xda community figures out a work around.
I may be giving this a shot. Thanks.

Titanium Backup -Market Doctor

I posted this in the Galaxy S2 forums but unfortunately not many replied, im hoping someone here can be of assistance.
Some apps i have on my phone i haven't got via the Android Market, lots ive got have been apk's ive got on XDA,etc, etc, what im wondering is, seen as i didn't get these apps from the market if i linked the selected apps to the market through the market doctor what is that supposed to do?
I have the Paddy Power app and Betfair app which were were initially on the Android market but for some bizzare reason Android market decided no betting apps were to be allowed to took them off the market so i went elsewhere and downloaded them and installed via root explorer, there are a couple of paid apps i also downloaded for free not something i usually do but whoever created these apps was taking the p*ss with the price they were charging so i refuse to pay over the odds for an app, taking all this into consideration what (if any) advantage would i have by linking these to the market and more's to the point considering i didn't get any of these particular apps from the market would the apps in question still link to the market?

anyone.......??
For apps already removed from the market there's no use forcing a link.
For paid apps if it's not good enough to match its price to you,you still want to use it and want easy updates? :O probably why your question is unanswered..

What about apps though that ive got on XDA and apps like Paddy Power and Betfair which were taken out of the market, can these not be linked to the market?
You cannot link it to market because it does not exist in the market server anymore, it's that simple.

Market doctor is used when apps you did get in the market don't show up. Nothing more. Link to market is really only useful is you manually unlinked an app.
can i backup all my messages with titanium backup and restore them on another ROM?

Issue installing Root Browser Lite 2.1 - apk request

Hello everyone,
I have been trying to install "Root Browser Lite" version 2.1 from the Google play store, but for some strangely odd reason, i am having a weird issue.
Everytime i try to install it, it says: Cannot install, Inefficient Storage available.
That would obviously mean that i dont have any space left in the Application partition of the internal memory, but to my suprise I do indeed have plenty.
I have over 100mb left. And i can install applications that are over 15mb without a problem, litterally right after trying to install Root Browser.
Its only a mere 1.3 mb download and cant be too much more extracted..
Ive uninstalled applications, cleared my cache, rebooted, among other things and still cant get this one application to install.
Maybe if i install the .apk from my sdcard i could install it properly..? So could someone who has this application be kind enough to share their .apk?
Or we could somehow try to figure this out. But like i said it hasnt been an issue with anything else at all..
Also, so you know and need not ask, ive tried nearly all other file explorers right now, and so far they have all been really lame in my opinion. Currently I like the MIUI port explorer, but im constantly getting force closes so I need a change. Root Browser is really nice and is a file explorer I plan to stick with. (If i can get it anyway...)
I have an older version, but I know he rebuilt the whole app in the recent update so I'd prefer v2.1
Hope some body can help me out.
Id really greatly appreciate it.
Thanks for your time.
Have you tried pushing it through adb?
I have not. As I am not sure how..
Wouldnt I need the apk to do so?
Ohh yeah, you'll need the apk...
There was an extension for google chrome (pc) that allowed you to download apk's to comp from play store...
Just search around, I don't remember its name...
Omg I made a big mistake I meant Root Browser not root explorer... gosh that was dumb...

Does it make a difference?
They serve the same purpose
It does indeed make a difference. I think root explorer is absolutely horrible imo, but I am specifically looking for root browser.
Root browser = sleek and sexy with better functionality
Root explorer = clunky, ugly, dumb icon, fails with its functionality, not much preview thumbnail support, extraction support is a joke, and did I mention ugly?
Just saying id hate for someone to go through the trouble to get the one I absolutely don't want ya know?
Well, you can try file manager by rythm software, for a change...
I can pretty much believe you'll like it...
As regards for root browser, I don't use play store, so am not able to lay my hands on the latest version...
If I get it, I'll pass on the apk of the lite version...
Btw, have you found the chrome extension yet?

Thanks,
So I installed File Manager. I like it, its pretty nice. But I also managed to get Root Browser Installed as well finally, so I am happy about that. So I have kept both of them.
As for the chrome extension, no I didn't yet, because this is the first time I am seeing your post! I wonder how that happened! I was using the XDA Premium application on my phone to post in this thread with you, and for some reason that post didn't show up until I just not visited on my Computer... hmm. weird... But thats really cool, I will get to searching for that right now. I started using Firefox again, with the latest update, since I been using chrome for so long.. But now I am using both, so I will definitely check that out. Do you want to know the name of it when I find it?
And I noticed you mentioned you dont use the Google Play Store for your apps, So what do you use then?
I use other market alternatives like 1mobile market (only free apps here) and others...
I also google around for stuff...
If I still don't find it, I install play store, download apk, and then again remove play store...
Yes please, if you do find that chrome extension, send me along a link

Do you happen to still have the root browser 2.1.0 apk? I'd love a copy. (2.1.1 is giving me issues) Thanks.
ROM toolbox Pro
ROM toolbox pro has root browser and many other features. I can give you a copy of the .apk. I will upload it in this post.

Hacking trial app (megaplayer)

I have an app with a plugin which I legitly bough off the market.
However, I just got a new phone, and cant transfer the paid plugin because the app has been deleted from the store, and just transferring the apk file, causes the app to not work, because it sees that its been "pirated".
I was wondering if anyone here can help me remove (or greatly increase) the time on a trial version i found somewhere on the internet.
I'd love to be able to pay for it, but the developers do not seem to have any activity, and i am unable to find a way to pay for the app, so I am asking for help hacking it.
App is called Megaplayer, and I want to be able to use the "player pack 5" which allows the app to download putlocker and sockshare videos.
Please help me out.
P.S. I would LOVE to pay for it. But it is literally impossible.
if you are rooted you could try lucky patcher but Im sure these threads are forbidden on these forums as it may count as piracy
One question: Can I see the screenshot of it detecting that you pirated it?

Do not download apps from untrusted market places

Hello guys,
This is a news of 1 month ago, but I want to share what we developers have discovered debugging our apps.
There is a new trojan in town, something that is injected in the APKs and starts to download other apps and track you down. It's easy to be found but for developers it's impossible to remove it because it comes from an altered version of the original APK.
It's important to understand that with some work is possible to alter an app and to publish it on third party stores.
I highly suggest to download apps only on google play or amazon. If you really need to download an app, be really careful and scan the apk. If you get a crash check the logcat and if you find something like this "com.walkfreestub" clean your phone immediately.
These are some experiences by the devs:
