I posted this in the Galaxy S2 forums but unfortunately not many replied, im hoping someone here can be of assistance.
Some apps i have on my phone i haven't got via the Android Market, lots ive got have been apk's ive got on XDA,etc, etc, what im wondering is, seen as i didn't get these apps from the market if i linked the selected apps to the market through the market doctor what is that supposed to do?
I have the Paddy Power app and Betfair app which were were initially on the Android market but for some bizzare reason Android market decided no betting apps were to be allowed to took them off the market so i went elsewhere and downloaded them and installed via root explorer, there are a couple of paid apps i also downloaded for free not something i usually do but whoever created these apps was taking the p*ss with the price they were charging so i refuse to pay over the odds for an app, taking all this into consideration what (if any) advantage would i have by linking these to the market and more's to the point considering i didn't get any of these particular apps from the market would the apps in question still link to the market?

anyone.......??
For apps already removed from the market there's no use forcing a link.
For paid apps if it's not good enough to match its price to you,you still want to use it and want easy updates? :O probably why your question is unanswered..

What about apps though that ive got on XDA and apps like Paddy Power and Betfair which were taken out of the market, can these not be linked to the market?
You cannot link it to market because it does not exist in the market server anymore, it's that simple.

Market doctor is used when apps you did get in the market don't show up. Nothing more. Link to market is really only useful is you manually unlinked an app.
can i backup all my messages with titanium backup and restore them on another ROM?
Related
I have been trying out alot of apps in the market like launcherpro and other quality apps. I also like to reflash my phone once or twice a week, be it cognition or jh7 or screwing up kernels etc....
If I start buying apps off the market, when i sign back into the market from a new rom, will i have all my paid apps there? or will they all be gone like my free ones?
If they disappear, how do you guys get them working again where they update on the market?
thanks
When you buy apps from the market it will stay saved on the google account you used
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
it keeps a record of your paid apps, sign into your gmail account then accept market terms go to download section of the market and all paid apps are listed i have flashed numerous roms and it recorded all my paid apps, alternatively you can use titanium backup to backup all your apps along with the data and your system setting also
thanks... just bought launcherpro plus via paypal... and folder organizer.... Can't believe the developer was able to make container icons showing whats inside the folder like the iphone...
I am not a fan of the iphone, but always thought those icon folders that show you whats inside are super cool.

Which folder organizer did you purchase?
Transformer just arrived. All set up and using my existing Google Account.
However, if i click on any paid apps in the market it states 'Sorry, details page for the requested item could not be found' ....
Its let me sync all my other apps, including paid ones, and it recognised my ID ...
what am i missing ??
There are a couple of other threads open on this, it seems that from yesterday some users are starting to experience the same market issues. I have the same problem and it started this morning, i don't think its a problem with your account or set up. I have emailed Google apps, awaiting their reply or a fix from other users.
If I were a betting person I'd say we're not far off an update of the market that will add a proper tablet specific section, just like itunes has for iphone/ipad apps, as any time an app is reported a few times that it's crashing/FC'ing in honeycomb, it seems to get blocked for tablet installations. So maybe it has something to do with a google reshuffle of the way apps are viewed.

You could be right but it is not affecting incompatible apps, it is any paid app, i have installed a few from your thread prior to this issue and now cannot install new ones you have added as compatible e.g. backup pro.

Yeah but I'd assume paid apps were on different servers, as they would have more encrypted data, so possibly one section could be affected while the other remains untouched during an upgrade.

Mmm... possibly, will have to wait and see, hopefully sooner rather than later.
Just started getting this today too :-(
I was getting this quite a bit last night, but it wasn't only for paid apps. Some free ones had the problem as well. My workaround for a paid app that I hadn't yet purchased was to buy it on my computer and it was automatically sent to my device.
I got it only once today, don't remember which app. But it has worked fine generally.
I got this message on a few different apps last night. I was able to get around it by either hitting the back button instead of OK in the popup. Or by going to the market through the browser and pushing the app to my device. The market app for HC is really lacking at this point. You can't even review apps. Hopefully they will update soon.

I'm getting this too.
Temporary solution is to download any app from market.android.com and have it manually download from your browser to your tablet.
I can't install from the market web app - get a notice that I "have not opened the market recently on this device" (which I have - I'm in it now..)
I just got a great news today, my own application will be included on all the phone of the brand "X" in my little country (Belgium)
I got so excited when I am looking at the phones in the shops and I can see my application by default.
Unfortunately, the brand "X" is noobie and seem unable to link my app to the Market, so the users cannot be aware that there is an upgrade in the Android Market.
they just ask me by email
Do you know how to link apps to the market to get the update automatic?

I know that I don't work for this company and they will get benefit with this information, but have you got an Idea on how to achieve this?
Thank a lot.

You got to put your apk file in the data/app folder, not the system/app. According to HTC Android ROM kitchen at least, with which I'm experimenting now.

Doing this allows them to uninstall your app as well
Thank a lot for your kind answer, Androyed, but I strongly believe there are other alternatives.

I don't care, I prefer users removing my app rather than being annoyed by an old version, but I don't think that the manufacturer will allow to do that.
Are there really no other option than moving the app? I cannot believe that as many devices have pre-installed apps and are linked to the Market.

Yeah I prefer that way too but U.S. carriers love putting preloaded applications on the phone and it can't be removed unless the user have root access.
And there is no option.. unless you want to provide the customers phones with root access from the start but that'll cause future updates to be a hassle.
The only way to update your app is via a software update (OTA).

Haha, you probably need an answer from an actual dev.
One thing I do know is that it is possible with Titanium Backup, or any other root backup app, to backup your apps with a market link, so that you can update your backed up apps. So maybe that's the solution? Put a market link somewhere?

Actually.. now that I'm thinking about it. Stock ROMs have Android Market is in /system/app/ as Vending.apk.
I believe what happens is that, the market will UPDATE. But you could always uninstall the updates but you're unable to fully get rid of the app.
This should apply to any app in /system/app/ so in theory it should be possible. But yeah, you'd have to ask a dev about it.
What app?

Does anyone know how to detach an application from the Android Market without using Titanium Backup? I'm looking for an ADB or shell(preferred) method.
Are you trying to buy an app but it won't let you because it says you did not purchase it even though it says purchased? I had a copy of an app I didn't pay for but when I went to purchase it it already said purchased. When I tried installing it, it said I did not purchase it. No matter what I did, it wouldn't detach. I uninstalled, used titanium and still showed purchased.
I went to settings, manage applications, and chose Market. Then I hit uninstall updates. I opened the Market and it was the old version. I could then purchase the app. Afterwards, the Market updated itself automatically.
Hope this helped
Btw, this belongs in general.

No, I wish I had a "simple" problem. What I have is Pandora unlimited from one of the XDA developers. It keeps trying to update Pandora but I don't want to lose the unlimited. I'm also wondering if it will allow me to delete apps on the rezound if I untie them from the market.
Other Reasons
There are other reasons to need this, including if you took an Amazon App of the Day, and now the Market wants to tell you ALL THE TIME that there is an update, which will fail.
What you can do on the update notice is click the "X" and a menu will ask you if you want to NEVER UPDATE THIS APP, which should be your choice.

For the first part, I am not sure...
For the second part...
You could do it with ADB but it would not be permanent. Meaning you would have to do it on each reboot.
use something like...
"adb pm uninstall xxxxx.xxxxx.xxxx"
Im not sure if that is the correct syntax so double check that.
But thats the closest I can think of to do what you want to do
I would also ask NilsP. He is pretty knowledgeable with the Package Manager.

Right, I'm a PowerAMP pro user, but with a pretty old phone. The latest app is working but it's slow and sometimes lags. The poweramp site also offers the old 1.4 version which works right for me. Now, all is fine and dandy but I;m a bit annoyed by the app always showing up there to be updated. So I searched for a method to detach the app from the market and learnt that the bug has been solved long ago and apps can't be detached. So I tried changing the app's signature, of course with no luck, my android dev skills being close to absolute zero.
So I ask you, is there any way to do this? I am not pirating the app, so don't worry
I'm also trying to convince the developer to make an unsigned version of the app specifically for old timers like me, but with no success until now..
Just use LBE Privacy guard and freeze internet connection permission for this particular app..
So it will not connect to net and not telling you that new version is available..
we all should be polite enough to press thanks for anyone who helped US.

If it doesnt need to connect to the internet for anything else you could use droidwall to block it from accessing the playstore
If your rooted you could use blackmart to download the app and never have to update it
Or see the updates notifications saying there's an update

I know Titanium Backup can detach apps, though I am not sure if it is available in the free version. However, I do recommend the paid version of Titanium Backup anyway.

I have never been able to make that function actually work and I've tried with several apps that I don't want updates for.

On a related note, is there a way to remove apps from the "My Apps"list? It is really annoying to have to scroll through a list of apps containing tons of apps that you may have tried for a while and then uninstalled when you need to reinstall something. And why is the "My Apps" list in random order and not alphabetical?

As far as I know (and after some quick Googling), there is no way to remove any apps from the giant "My Apps" list. However, I use the Appbrain android market replacement, and it lets you customize your lists and sort them better. You can remove devices from view though.
