[Q] data2ext on stock roms in chacha? - HTC ChaCha

Question for dev guys. Does it will be able to enable data2ext for htc chacha and use a extra partition created by CWM on mSD card, on stock roms? stock but rooted roms?

+1
I would like to know that, too...

I'd love that too, my girlfriend's Chacha is always out of memory and it's driving her mad (especially coming from an iPhone). Link2SD is the best I've managed and that only works with FAT32 partition but even with that it's run out of space. Superdroid has A2SD I've noticed but I'm yet to try that.

I use link2sd on my rooted chacha with an ext3 partition and it is perfect

I looked at that app on the market and comments are that it doesn't work on gingerbread.
Are they incorrect then?
This is exciting tho as it means I may give my chacha another go later!

Yep, you're right!
I'm using superdroid but the app2sd on it doesn't work for me.
This app works perfectly!!!
Only have 34mb free but its enough to prevent gmail from not syncing.
I can put all my apps with widgets on the SD now.
I used cwm to partition a while back, and this app said the ext was in fact ext3.
Very much appreciated

Which system apps did you remove? I find the contacts app to be the main problem, after syncing and stuff it's ballooned to over 30mb.

No it doesn't, you need S-off before you can dream of doing anything like this for the ChaCha.

and once s-off, it is my undertanding that you cant receive official htc updates anymore, am i right?
tnx

Hm... also want to know that.
If you/we got s=Off and CID=111111, OTA updates will stop showing?

I don't know re ota, but I'm using superdroid now.
You would need root, not s-off but only way to get root is s-off presently.
System apps can't be moved, I've even tried to make system apps (maps , gmail ) user apps in order to move them, but titanium just froze.
You can move *everything* but system apps with this app and that creates more than enough space, and the widgets still work on moved apps too.
I've gone widget crazy and still have 30mb free, which believe me is a big improvement. Before I had to forgo widgets just to keep enough memory to prevent syncing freezing up.

Does link2sd work on an s-offed, rooted stock rom?
Tnx
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App

yes, it does.
I am going to reignite this thread as the original post was never answered.
Can Data2EXT be used on the ChaCha with a rooted stock ROM. Link2SD can be used, but Data2EXT requires a little more. It would be really positive if it could.

I'm in the same simple situation u r..
From the way i see it now, we need to BOOT with the XTC CLIP to make the DS S-Off
Then u should root it with SUPERONECLICK.. search on the forum ..
Finally, install any ROM u would like in ROM MANGER .. (CayanogenMod / CoreDroid..)
Hope i helped
p.s.
I'm searching a different way to S-Off The Device .. so if u find another way.. pls let me know

You're right in saying that the only way to root on DSS is currently XTCclip.
But as for ROMs the only ones you'd be able to instal (except official ones) are the customs that you'll find in the android development section of this forum (although I don't believe that any are available through ROM manager).
there are four or five different cooks.....to choose from, but the number has doubled in the last week alone so things are certainly looking up.

would i be correct in saying that once i s-off'd my phone and then rooted it, i would be able to uninstall the apps installed by my telco?
i'm not opposed to using the rom installed by my telco, it seems fast enough. i only want to uninstall their stupid bloody apps (which aren't actually apps, but rather links to their website).
Yes, you are right

Can you root using Gingerbreak ? Cuz i read that you need to flash an unsecured boot.img to make SuperOneClick work. What's the difference?
excellent.
i might look into buying myself an xtc clip.
unless a software method comes up soon.

yeah, i'll probably have a look around but they're not that expensive.
i could probably then re-sell it and make my money back.
@shrome
Yes u can use Gingerbreak. That's how I rooted mine since superoneclick wouldn't work. You'll get an error message which u can ignore and then just reboot. Greetz
Edit: device still needs to be s-off to do so...

Yeah, i know about the S-OFF part, I'l wait for 2-3 weeks, then use the XTC Clip. If gingerbreak is usable, why is there so much fuss about superoneclick?? There must be some cons......do you know any? Anyway, thanks !!!
Edit: i read somewhere that gingerbreak wipes the data on ur SD card. Is that true?

I used gingerbreak 1.2 to root after getting s-off and it has done nothing at all to damage my sd-card
It made the card un-mountable when you tried to temp root with out s-off, but that was easy fixed with a battery out reboot

Did you format your SD card or did it have data? Cuz the gingerbreak page says it's better to have a formatted one, but i don't wanna format, cuz there's a lot of data on it.

copy the data from the card to your computer first.
then after you've run gingerbreak, copy the data back.
or, go buy another sdcard. they're very cheap.
Please forgive me as I am definitely a complete newbie here. I am trying to root my DS so that I can hopefully run a Bluetooth RSAP app to link my car phone system. I have sent the phone away and had it made S-OFF and I have tried to download Gingerbreak from downloads it says "cannot open file" what am I doing wrong.

I've been thinking the same, also the gold card that the xtc clip makes worked in my old desire to flash ruu's that I couldn't previously flash no matter how many times I tried to make one,so maybe a copy of the card would work for all HTC's?

http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/638/20110922172748.jpg/
I'm pretty sure I haven't had this before. Will do a tweak and check other improvements.
EDIT: Please note that flashing this ROM will revert everything back to stock mode. It will remove CWM and root and you will need to re-do them again. This will NOT give you S-OFF/S-ON.
So this is probably obvious but, just need to use X-clip again?
Best check that h boot is supported
Sent from my HTC ChaCha A810e using Tapatalk
Oh and is dialer behaving itself?
Sent from my HTC ChaCha A810e using Tapatalk
If you have S-OFF you don't need to use X-Clip again
Dialer looks the same though (I mean, the % is still around 80%) but 80% out of 2% (total battery consumption) is nothing actually.
Got you, so its just root that will be lost .

I've put it here and it's gonna stay there until I delete it if I need some space (little chance as I have 5GB there):

This may seem a n00b question but this is flash-able if phone is s-on right?
Well it should.. Haven't tried it though.
Well, not sure if it's because i don't have S-OFF or something else but the tool completes most of the steps and at the last moment reports the phone cannot be updated.
Hm the phone's unbranded, but now I get the 131 customer id error.
i too faced the same problem 131 customer id error..... with my chacha S-ON, unbranded.
can this be installed using gold card?

Like myxcon said above, internal memory is quite high after the first boot (on 1.18 after first boot I had around 76 MB).
Battery - I have a strange feeling that this one eats more battery... I'm not sure of it though but whenever I look at the percentage of the battery I always think that it should've been higher. That could be all in my head though It's still on after 2 days with moderate use (some wi-fi at night, emails, calls) and the battery is at 45%.
Speed - I don't know about this but the lockscreen appears jaggy when trying to unlock it. The ring doesn't move that smooth as I expected; but this might have been present on 1.18 also.
dailer bug solved?? Bug is that once youve made a call on the cha cha it would remain in a wake lock state:-, consuming battery and affecting many cha cha units here

rooted and installed rom ? did it work ?

Hi
I have a htc sensation it was from orange. i rooted the phone thanks to the guides and installed this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098849
the phone still works but i still see all the orange stuff that came shipped with it i tought this overwrites them all and gets rid of them and enables me to uninstall shipped aplications like orange and facebook etc. so did this work or not or am i missing something thanks
did you do a SUPER WIPE??

I'm not quite sure why you'd need something like this? They were available on the likes of the Desire and Nexus One due to their lack of internal memory but the Desire S has plenty.
but if you run a small rom you have plenty of wasted space no? so with cmtd you can use the wasted space for even more apps!?
Fair enough. But sadly its not possible as nobody has created such a h-boot for the desire s

Yes of course. Anything is possible
If you do attempt to try this though I'd like to give a friendly warning. Messing with the H-BOOT is a seriously good way to brick your device.
For now, the best i could recommend is moving some of your apps to your SD card.

[Q] European RUU

Regarding the European RUU, I have a completely stock branded to vodafone desire S with the 2.3.5 OTA. Will I have to take any measures besides backing up my stuff to install the RUU?
Normally i wouldn't ask this, but the phone being limited to vodafone only sim cards makes me wonder if the RUU will affect any of it or if i have to do extra steps that I wouldn't with an unbranded phone.
Thanks,
Daniel
I think no one really knows yet. RUU is still too fresh. My guess, yes you can just install this on your branded Desire S. Your SIM lock will stay (this is never affected by a ROM). If you now have a Vodafone boot logo, you might lose that. Any apps put on there by Vodafone, you'll also lose, of course.
Actually that would work great for me, tired of the preinstalled crap As for not losing the sim lock, doesn't bothed me so much.
Kinda just want to update without issues, wondered how it would fit this specific situation.
Thanks for the reply m8
Update:
Installed the RUU without issues, phone seems to be working fine so far.. actually have more free memory than before (both without apps installed, did a reset before installing the RUU)
Wifi and 3G are working, phone is smooth but to be fair.. only installing apps atm.. glad to have the update

Did you use anything else except the ics RUU from htcdev? I also have a stock branded TIM Italy Desire S last time updated also via OTA to android 2.3.5 and I want to upgrade to ICS. Sorry for posting in your thread, but I didn't find anything in the forums to answer my question.

no need to unbrand. This RUU is WWE and can be used with all Desire S. Just run RUU if your phone is s-on.
