I just flunked my data partition installing Tasker 1.1
Firm 10d, no root.
Has anybody any version of Tasker installed? Or is it just incompatible with the LG ROM?
After re-installing all my apps, re-configuring all my accounts and shouting blasphemies after finding I had lost all my saved games, I don't want to try again.
And yes, I know about Titanium Backup. I didn't think i needed it before rooting and playing with it.
I use tasker and it installed perfectly. No problems with installation.
Only problem I have is getting the data network to turn off.
It should be compatible with the rom, and did you get your problem during installation or was it a profile you created?
Tasker generally works, except:
- some 'switches' don't work (data connection, GPS, tethering, maybe more)
- if you give Tasker root permissions, that might cause infinite reboots
The last issue is not Tasker's fault, it seems to apply to any widget or background service.

Hi All,
I've rooted my phone and installed the JF1.43 modified firmware, and also replaced the stock bootloader with hardSPL. Everything worked exactly like the instructions, and I'm very happy and grateful with the results. I notice two issues:
1. Applications that are used recently, but not the last application used, sometimes crash when I bring the phone out of sleep. I get a notification that this or that application has crashed, with the option to Close or Wait. It doesn't happen every time, or in any reproducible way, as near as I can tell.
2. The "T-mobile Hotspot" application appears to be broken. It does not connect when I'm in range of a t-mob hotspot, and the nearby hotspot location search feature is broken; it dumps me out to a search in the browser.
Has anyone else experienced these issues? They're not dealbreakers at all, but I'd like to get to the bottom of them. Is there a log file that will tell me what's happening when the applications crash?
Thanks for the help, and the great work you're doing here.
I haven't experienced #1 and #2 has never worked for me at a TMO hotspot.
I have experienced the forced close of apps, but not too often.
I'm running RC33 and 1.42 (couldn't install 1.43 for some reason, something about not able to validate files).
And if any consolation, T-Mobile Hotspot app never worked for me, even before the hacking.
Sounds like you need to perform a wipe. Should fix everything.
Well, except the hotspot app, that never worked.
Its always a good idea to wipe when you change builds.
I screwed up my phone royally when I tried the Tasker 2G/3G action, and I ended up doing a complete nandroid restore. (I lost 2 weeks of data for a few apps, because I just forgot about the apps.) [NOTE: I had to put the phone into airplane mode to escape a com.android.phone FC loop. But then I couldn't access any radio settings from "Settings."]
Recently, I've been playing around with remote access apps. I think the latest one that I tried may have goofed up something. My mobile network seems to be wonky.
Ideally, I would love to have a diagnostic app that knows what's wrong, and fixes it. But either I can't find the right search terms, or no such app (or how-to) exists.
So, my question(s)...
How can I retrieve all of the radio settings?
What should the values be? (I assume this will be device/carrier specific.)
How do I change the settings, once I know which value is "wrong"?
Can settings be changed even when in Airplane mode?
Where are the settings stored in a nandroid (so I can do a partial restore)?
I need answers that are command line based (see note in 1st paragraph).
I'll use the info to make a backup/restore script, and if possible make it work for lots of phones.

Installed Skype, because I use it ocasionally. Added it to some task killer to prevent it to start at boot time. I reboot, it's on. I take an other task killer, kill it. Still on.
I go in Skype, logout; I try relogin, it asks me for password.
How to make it behave like on my computer ? have it run only when I need it, have it off when I don't need it, and make it NOT ask me password when I login ?
Where is the "quit" button ? quit without forgetting the password !
Short WA: rename the package in /data/app, and reboot. But ... really, isn't there a nicer solution ?
I don't have any problems. Go to Skype settings and change the go offline time.
Have you tried the market for stop skype type apps? I used to use stop skype but apparently this doesn't work with the latest version. There are other out there though...
Unless it's actually using battery, there's no reason to kill it. You're just wasting more battery and resources by using a task killer. Android does a decent job of managing memory on its own, so let it.
If it bothers you THAT much, or if it's eating through battery, freeze it with Titanium Backup. I believe you'll need the Pro key to freeze apps. With the free version you can make a backup of it (this will save your password) and uninstall it when you're not using it. Just restore your backup when you need to use it. Freezing is a lot easier, though.

Skype has a lot of hooks for when it starts, so if you took it out of startup then it might be in connection changed or something like that.

plainjane it's not draining my battery, it's draining my data plan !!! and when on data plan, since Skype is banned by my phone provider, my friends see me go online-offline every 20s ... I keep blinking and ennoying them. I want Skype to run only when I am on Wifi, and disable it when on GSM. All other apps have options in Prefs ... Skype doesn't. Skype just sux. So, the easy fix would have been to do like other naighty apps: use Tasker to ask it to kill Skype when no wifi is available, and Skype restarts itself ...
You all guided me to something I had not found yesterday; changed the conf, will see tomorow.
TB is a good idea; did not pay yet, but I may pay for pro, for other reasons. But I have other things to test before that.
Thanks for chat.
A recent update seems to have ruined Skype TBH. I switched to Viber but you could also try Fring.
Skype now behaves more like a virus than an app for me.
I didn't think about the data thing, I'm used to having unlimited data & I'm usually on wifi anyway.
If it's a data thing, try using Droidwall. In Droidwall you can deny connectivity over mobile data or wifi. Just deny it over mobile data & allow it over wifi. The app may still run, but it won't be able to connect. Be sure to select menu > apply rules, just checking the box won't do anything. Also ensure that the firewall is enabled, and enable the log as well so you can check to see that it's being blocked. The app is free and works well, I use it for other things.
It's not a permanent solution, but it will keep it from eating your data until you find a way to stop it.

plainjane i have found how to tell Skype to never connect anymore; I will still install droidwall for other reasons.
I don't mind that much about data plan cost; but my friends complained I was blinking, and boring them
Fring is not an alternative; Fring no longer supports Skype (Skype complained to Fring, and frorced Fring to remove their internal skype-compatibility-plugin); I am not asking for free voice calls; I need Skype specifically, for their uniq services (Skype Out to call foreign number at low cost, and Skype-only contacts ... friends who are too lame to use anything else than Skype ... ).
I could WA my provider limitations and disconnecting issue by activating my tunnel (tunnels will ensure quality service, prevent discos, and re-establish connexions transparently when my providers shut's down the link; transparent for app, and fast enough to "not see any disconnexion at application level", just some lag ).
But my root issue was to get Skype not start at boot, and shut-up when i am bored. And if the next Skype update removes the options you helped me to discover, I will activate DroidWall which looks very nice
Thanks, issue fixed.
For past few weeks, the Wi-Fi & Data in my rooted LG L90 with Kitkat 4.4.2 gets automatically enabled. Earlier, when I disable these it stays disabled till I go and enable it.
I tried to restrict background data, turned off my Wi-Fi router at home, for data I created a new Access point in Mobile network and disabled auto sync, nothing worked.
I even tried applications like AutoData and others and these were of no use.
Please help me to disable Wi-Fi and Data permanently and it should be turned on only when I enable it.

Most likely you have an underlying app installed that wants to use WFi and phone data whenever it wants.
Go ahead and grab avast! Antivirus. This app allows you to control what apps use the Internet and when, as well as other features. Try disabling WiFi/data on each of the apps you've installed, and I can guarantee a 98.5% chance that this will solve your problem.

Installed Avast Anti Virus and through its Firewall settings, I was able to disable WiFi & Data to some extent. This is far better than my previous situation. Thanks for your help.
Maybe you can use Tasker to further curb this behaviour.
Hey Guys.
Been having problems with my Z5 E6653 (5.1.1, Build: 32.0A.6.200) Lately unsure exactly what caused it.
The device is NOT rooted and using stock firmwares.
The device will self reboot randomly at times, however it appears I can almost guarantee it will reboot faster and is reproducible by enabling and disabling the mobile data and when being used as a hotspot. The 'Data Usage' tab under 'Settings' does not work it goes to open then force closes and says it stopped working.
Anyone have any ideas? You guys tell me where to get the logs from and I will post them here
One last thing.. In before someone says "Factory Reset" I know it will fix this issue as it did in the past however I am looking for solutions to fixing this without resorting to a factory reset if possible. I don't have internet at my house I rely mobile data and hotspots.
Stuff you guys probably want to know about.
Some stock apps are disabled "Google Hangouts, Movie Creator, File Commander" (I don't use these at all and until locked bootloader root is available they will be disabled until deleted with TB. I have disabled notifications for some downloaded apps namely games like Cut the Rope and so to remove silly toast and push ads.

I had something similar happen in LP, I suspect related to disabling some of the bloat. From your list I disabled all save hangouts, try to reenable them all then only disable one by one. Can't you upgrade to MM though, it appears this has been solved.

Yea I tried that didn't work. Ended up factory reset. Well MM isn't out on the Telstra operator. Been waiting for it though read a lot about bugs so I'll hold off until the kinks are worked out. Cheers though.
Not sure I agree that's it's been fixed - I'm on stock MM and have a random reboot at least once a week - normally when playing audio (PowerAmp) when connected over Bluetooth in the car.
