I just flunked my data partition installing Tasker 1.1
Firm 10d, no root.
Has anybody any version of Tasker installed? Or is it just incompatible with the LG ROM?
After re-installing all my apps, re-configuring all my accounts and shouting blasphemies after finding I had lost all my saved games, I don't want to try again.
And yes, I know about Titanium Backup. I didn't think i needed it before rooting and playing with it.
I use tasker and it installed perfectly. No problems with installation.
Only problem I have is getting the data network to turn off.
It should be compatible with the rom, and did you get your problem during installation or was it a profile you created?
Tasker generally works, except:
- some 'switches' don't work (data connection, GPS, tethering, maybe more)
- if you give Tasker root permissions, that might cause infinite reboots
The last issue is not Tasker's fault, it seems to apply to any widget or background service.
I'm on eagles blood 4.0.4. One of the issues with ICS running on this device is that my APN settings are getting deleted about twice a week. So i have to go into my settings and manually add my settings into a new APN and save it in order to get my data back and working. I've tried to use the option of "restore default APN" but it doesn't work, I just get a pop message saying "restoring default APN settings" and it never goes away and nothing gets restored. Besides manually putting in the information into my APN settings, is there an easier way to get them back when the restore option is not working?

There is an app for that .
Also those that rename apn to save on data traffic can rewrite/restore properly.

Lol yeah I saw that Mansa, there are a few apps that can save and supposedly restore APN settings. I'll give those a shot for sure.
Freak, I actually saw that thread a few days ago and wasn't sure if that would be the solution to my problem. I figured that "data drops" were just a loss in signal/connection strength over the data network, not a complete deletion of the T-Mobile US APN settings. However, after reading through the thread again it makes sense how the simple mobile APN's might be interfering with my T-Mobile US settings. I'll flash that asap and see if it helps the issue, along with saving my current settings with an APN-saving/restoring application.
As always, appreciate the responses!
Hi guys,
I run PA 4.4 for like 10 days now. Since a week ago I have strange locations in my Google location history - constantly, when not moving - and rather accurate when I am outside (maybe has something to do with the wifi connection when stationary at home or at work?)...
One interesting part of it is: the first days of my new PA experience everything was fine. So probably it does not have anything to do with it. That first day I had the issue my phone crashed earlier while I was outside and I had to do a reboot. Maybe some settings were changed during that!? Or... maybe it doesn't and it's just a coincidence after some apps where updated (Google Search or so)...
I tried quite some settings to figure out what happens here - and it is not trivial - to my mind:
I did another clean install of the ROM; had the same issue again
I changed between "high accuracy" and "battery saving" mode in the location settings; no change
I went to the developer settings and unchecked "accept mock locations" (is that how the option is called in English?); no change
I have a Nexus 10 also running Android 4.4.4 and started to record my location history from that device with different settings: all are fine and accurate! When I record from both devices I can actually see my history jumping in 5-minute-mode...
Any ideas, any suggestions?
Please...
Two more findings, which make this issue even stranger:
When I move in the house - e.g. 2nd instead of ground floor - I get different locations, some 100 or 200 meters away, but both far from home.
I turned wifi off for one and a half hour - that resulted in perfect locations!! Locations were inaccurate after turning wifi on again...
What is wrong here?? So I get more inaccurate locations when connected to wifi!?
i always run straight gps and never wifi. imo its a conflict of interest.
gps is dead accurate, so the only time you could benefit from wifi is when you are in a building with no gps signal, and frankly, why would i need 100% accurate gps if im already in the building.
again imo, what is happening is, it can only reference wifi that it knows the exact location of. it has no way to tell how far from that wifi you are, so its guessing based on a limited gps signal and known wifi points.
i think its a waste of battery to be scanning wifi points all the time any ways, unless you have a constant use for it.

Thank you for the answer! And I sort of agree...
But the question is:
what did change that day when my location started to be different? I never had problems for more than two years of using the location history. Even after moving in April everything was fine with the wifi locations. I get one accurate reading like every one to three hours - so the location jumps from time time. Why is that? Is that a gps reading?
Plus: how could I change the settings? The only thing I can chose from is: "battery saving" (cell towers and wifi) or "high accuracy" (the same plus gps). I selected the second option but obviously still the Google location service does not really use it. When I turn off wifi it can only use cell towers plus gps... but obviously I want to be connected to the wifi when being at home.
I can't say why it started acting up.
If you use WiFi you are kinda stuck.
I only have GPS on and denied anything that wants to use WiFi for any reason.
I don't know where the option is found, but I remember it asking if I wanted to use WiFi to help results or something like that, I chose no.

I guess that option is the "use wifi for location detection although wifi is turned off" which can be found in the wifi advanced options. But I turned that on and off, no change.
But one more test from myself:
I let wifi on but disconnected from my home network. The result is: accurate locations! So the problem is not the wifi itself but a connected wifi!? And it is not only the home network because I had the same issue at work.
Plus: we just had a thunderstorm, that could have been the reason why cell towers and/or gps reacted differently: my location was at some new place about more than a mile away. The worst thing is: accuracy of that location point was about half a mile -- which means: my real location was not inside the accuracy cycle (that blue cycle when using location history)!!
The accuracy cycle is always very small when I get the real readings at home and always about half a mile in radius when somewhere else...
that is basically the problem with using wifi to help. there are too many variables. location needs to know the location of the wifi, but then there is a broadcast radius that decreases accuracy. there is also the question, what does it do when you are connected to a wifi it doesnt know the location of?, that could cause inaccuracy. maybe it makes an uneducated guess, who knows. there is also the issue, what if it thinks it knows the location but its actually wrong?
the list of possible scenarios could go on and on as to why it isnt reporting correctly.
the only way to truly know why it is wrong is to find out why exactly it thinks you are where you are when its wrong. there has to be some exact source of information its using to base your wrong location on. unfortunately, i doubt there is any way for the common user to get this information, let alone take corrective action so its not inaccurate in the future.
wrong locations only when wifi is connected, only on one device
OK, what do we already know?
I have the problem for some 8 to 10 days now. Never had it before, only have it on one device.
Maybe a coincidence but this behavior started on a day where my phone crashed and I had to reset.
I made a clean new re-install of the PA 4.4 and recently received the update to PA 4.42. There are no changes in the behavior.
It is only my phone (running ParanoidAndroid based on KitKat 4.4.4), my tablet (Nexus 10 running stock KitKat 4.4.4) does not have this problem (so it's no wifi relocation because of moving or such general problem).
I have the problem with more than one wifi! Have already seen these false locations when connected to the home and when connected to the work network. Problems with both networks started the same day...
Wrong locations are constantly there when my phone is connected to a wifi.
It's not always the same location, sometimes I get different readings, but it's 90% a position ~430m west of my home.
The correct locations have high accuracy (a few meters), the wrong locations have very low accuracy (~1000m or even more).
When I start Google Maps (i.e. probably when the phone uses gps) I can see my position moving towards the correct location.
When I switch off wifi or when leave wifi on but disconnect my phone from the network, then I get the correct location constantly.
Roughly every 1 to 3 hours there is one correct location within the list of false locations.
I tried virtually every combination of settings, "high accuracy" and "battery saving" for the location service, "no mock locations" in the advanced developers settings, "use wifi for location detection although wifi is switched off" in the wifi settings, ...
Is there some sort of cache that might be corrupted!?
Is there a possibility to force using gps?
What else...

I guess you shouldn't rule out that it is an issue caused by the ROM some how.
On my phone I can force it to use GPS only, I have the option anyways.
Under location I have device only or something like that, it says it only uses GPS when that option is selected.

I thought about that, too. Means to installiert something else, CM11 vor so...
There's the option "device only".
That option does not record the location history, afaik.
Which means: Google Now does not work. So that's not an option...

so i did a little test today on the way home from work, as i took a different route than normal to avoid traffic.
when i started "maps" i had to allow google location services to navigate. so im pretty sure you can use device only as long as you allowed google location for apps, as it said something about my google now functionality when i turned it off after navigating.
last week i navigated a 3 hour trip, on a different rom, with no issues. today, maps couldn't seem to start gps to find my location to start navigating. so i turned on "high accuracy", more to test than anything else, and it found my location and we were navigating home .
i knew where i wanted to go but at some points that varied from where maps wanted me to go. for a while it did good at making quick corrections to my path. about 20 minutes in, i didn't follow its directions again. well this time, it didn't recognize that i didn't turn, then advised me to make a subsequent turn onto a road that was off the road i didn't turn onto. now, the road i am on is about 1/4 mile from the road it thinks im on, the 2 roads are parallel. well it took maps over a mile, after i made another turn towards the road it thought i was on, before it realized it was wrong and made corrective instructions. after that, i made a quick stop to grab some liquid refreshment for the night and turned off navigation, as i was close to home.
this really goes to prove nothing more than "high accuracy" is not always highly accurate. i traveled across 3 states last week for 3 hours on "device only" and never once was it wrong about my exact location.
just wanted to share my experience, really doesn't help or fix your problem, but may shed some light on the possible inaccuracies across multiple devices.

I tried this and yes, Maps works with the "device only" setting. But when using Now it said that location-based cards (weather, traffic, ...) only work with "high accuracy" or "battery saving". So for me this setting is useless.
I guess I'll do another clean install and try CM11 or so...
it's not ROM related
I trid to install CM11 M8 today. For some reason I wasn't able to, received these strange "Unfortunately process ... has stopped" messages all the time and was not able to complete the initial setup. The only hint I found online is to make sure CWM recovery is up to date. I use v6.0.5.0 which I assume is up to date.
So I made another clean install of PA 4.42. Then I downloaded another ROM: did a clean install of SlimKat. This went smoothly, but I have the same location problems, both times!!!!
I guess we can be sure my location problems are not related to the ROM.
One thing I saw that seems noteworthy: I had correct locations for some time and then the wrong locations started again. Maybe this has to do with the system restoring backed up settings or installing / updating all the apps!?
Any ideas?

the only way to rule out the rom's is to return to stock and check it there.
its not uncommon to have similar issues across multiple rom's.
im not saying you are wrong, changing from one rom to another is just not a good way to check an issue.

Oh, is that the case?
Then I should install the stock Samsung ROM and check. Probably will do it in a few days since I am busy the next days.
BTW: I installed SlimKat and then PA again. After installing SlimKat I now have TWRP instead of CWM recovery and the settings of 5x5 Icons on the home screen plus smaller font size and probably a few other settings remain in PA although I did factory reset, format cache and so on...
The thing is: how can I change this back!?!? Didn't find it in the settings. It'not font size (which is set to 100%).

there is another partition thats not normally wiped with a factory reset. i believe its called "data/media". the official cwm's that i have used have an option to wipe this separately, but i havent seen this option in twrp, or know if it wipes it by default. my guess would be no, but i could be wrong.
anyways, some settings and/or app data is stored in this area. you likely need to wipe this to fix the problem. that would be my best guess anyways.

Just rebooted into recovery and was surprised its CWM again!? Anyways, good its back!
The one option I always used is "wipe data/factory reset" (plus of course "wipe cache"). Under "mounts and storage" there's an extra option "format /data". Should I try this one?

I'm pretty sure it says data/media. I don't have cwm on right now or I would check, but I think it is under mounts and storage. It was in the same dir where you can format system and such if I remember correctly.
Its also possible someone removed that option from your version, but I don't know why they would unless your phone doesn't have that partition.

KitKat Sucks. My battery life is just magically drained all day. And the updates killed my texts.
REGARDLESS OF THIS - I AM OFFERING $25 PER ROM FOR ANYONE THAT SENDS ME STABLE CM JELLY BEAN ROMS FOR THE MOTOROLA PHOTON Q, I AM MOSTLY LOOKING AT PEOPLE LIKE KABALDAN, AAAAARGH, ETC WHO MIGHT HAVE THEM STASHED AWAY ON A HARD DRIVE SOMEWHERE.
IF YOU CANNOT REACH ME HERE THEN PLEASE SEND A PRIVATE MESSAGE OR EMAIL ME AT [email protected] OR [email protected]. YOU CAN ALSO TEXT ME AT 432-212-9654
You may want to remove your email addresses and phone number from this post.
I'll see what I can dig up I spose. Either way, check your wakelocks.
Edit - I found a really old build of an unofficial cm10.1...xt897c. From April 29 2013. Not sure you want it, I'm not really sure what it is. I'll keep poking to see if I can find something official...
Edit 2 - cm11 is kitkat, just FYI
Edit 3 - checked my roomie's phone (he uses the Q now) and I only seem to have a couple of sideload's which I doubt are what you want... and a TWRP backup of stock jb.
I doubt you'll want this upload I have of some random 10.1, I seriously doubt it's "stable" by any stretch of the word. cm11 runs fairly well IMHO, but you seem to be completely against it... maybe someone else will have and old zip of cm kicking around.
Edit 4 - found some gold for you. Will be better I'm sure than the random build I have on my dropbox. No need to donate me any money, I'm just trying to help.

I guess that either an app causes wakelocks or the media scanner is going crazy (that's why I use XPosed + a module to modify its behavour).
For the latter it should be enough to remove all kind of media from the phone and the sdcard. After done that, insert the sdcard to the PQ.
The media scanner will be running in the background. If you want to reboot, do it before or right after you insert the sdcard. While the media scanner is running you should not reboot (just let it alone for a few hours).
I'm not quiet sure but if I remember correct, the media scanner starts a full scan after the sdcard has been inserted. It possible that it does the same after a reboot...
PS: Don't forget that any kind of repeated crashes or app-misfunctions cause a log entry. This can let to a wakelock like behavour.
To avoid this, don't use badly programmed apps.
I wanted to like KitKat. I feel that I have given it plenty of opportunity. But I dont even use my phone for an hour or two and then i have like 1/4 - 1/3 battery gone. And I'm buying brand new sealed MPQs from ebay so its not a battery wear issue.
There were some CM JB roms where the battery wouldnt move all day if you didnt touch the phone. 5 hours later, 99%. Never happens anymore.
I just feel like the JB roms were optimized for the phone and KK roms are an afterthought with no active development. When my texting was killed in an update, that was the last straw.
I love this phone cuz its the last great slider. I REFUSE TO ASSIMILATE. I also use the phone for actual work almost constantly. Emails, spreadsheets, forms, etc. I demand a keyboard for this work. It is definitely worth $25 to me to have a stable rom for the future of this phone. If the market doesnt provide a new slider phone I can still see myself with this phone in 5 years. So I am really trying to prepare for the future with nailing down some good stable roms for this phone that I can stick with for longevity.
I will try the rom(s) in your last link and if it pans out I'll send you some beer money. Thank you very much for taking the time to respond and dig around your files.
I know what you mean. I used to rock cm10.2 on my PQ and the battery would last like forever. I'm talking about 3-4 days with 6-7 hours of screen time. If I didn't touch the phone much it would last a week.
Sooner or later I updated to kitkat and at some point lost the backup. I wasn't satisfied with kitkats battery life so I tried to get back. But even after flashing some of the recent cm10.2 roms of that time my battery life would never get as good as the particular version I had.

I downloaded CM 10.1.3 stable and I have no mobile data. I went with a CM11 nightly from the same list and still had no mobile data.
I believe its because I switched to ting, these builds default to an old sprint LTE or something. In any event, the phone status says "Mobile Network State 'Disconnected'" in both apps.
I am thinking about restoring my stock ting image and then flashing over it without wiping the data to see if this resolves the issue. If not, what was that secret code to get into the radio menu to activate/deactivate different radios and bands and stuff?

Did you check the APN settings? Did you check which network 'mode' is chosen?

How do I check the APN settings?
OK I changed network mode to CDMA + LTE/EVDO and I at least have 3g for now. It may even be 4g masquerading as 3g, I remember there was an icon glitch....
But how do I get to APN settings and the secret code for the programming menu? Or is that functionality gone in CM?

UPDATE - As I pushed reply I glanced at my phone and the 4g icon is now present. Yay!
Will post updates as I test out the app
EDIT - spoke a little too soon - 4g timed out, sent and received a little data, but still not functional.
The PRL is the same on my stock ting which is updated and has 4g and full service, and on these other builds (54022)
What is not the same is my "mobile network type". On CM it just says "LTE" but on stock Ting it says "LTE:13" and again, "network state = disconnected"
Ok, here is a rundown of my current situation -
In an effort to verify that mobile data is working on any of my CM roms I went with the latest CM 11 nightly for jbbl.
I have no data in the latest CM11 nightly, and I also have no text messaging (send button greyed out / disabled), which is the reason I decided to start this adventure for old roms in the first place, when my texting went out on the 1/3/2015 nightly.
I need to figure out how to get to that hidden radio menu and see if that can help me, if anyone has the dialer code to get to that menu on CM it would be greatly appreciated. But it might not even be accessible on CM.
The only thing I can think of now is flashing the stock FZX and starting over..... not very excite.

Most of the dialer codes won't work in CM. You need to sort out any programming in stock, then move to CM.
If your data worked on stock before moving to CM, then there's something awry with your CM configuration I suppose.
From your last post, data works just not LTE? What APN is configured? PRL is a preferred roaming list, shouldn't have anything to do with regular service. Only applies when you are roaming.....

On CM10.1.3 "Stable" from your link I get a 3G icon and mobile data (not sure if 4g, probably not) Mobile Network Type states - CDMA / EvDo rev A:6
(I seem to remember browser crashing, which it is, and Chrome becoming my internet app, with this build)
On CM 10.2 20131205 I get no data service, no data icon, and mobile network type is "LTE" and state is "disconnected".
On the latest CM11 nightly I am on "Mobile Network Type - LTE" "Mobile Network State - Disconnected" obviously no data
I do have phone service on all the builds. But no 4g and spotty 3g only on CM10.1.3 stable
I noticed when the latest nightly booted up that I had debugging mode already activated. IS there any chance that I had debugging mode activated during one of my flashes and that is the root of all my problems with this?

Access Point Name == APN, should be in the mobile networks menu like you stated. Maybe since you're on old CDMA builds it's not available, try on CM11.

Again, if LTE works fine on stock then you probably just have some bad settings on CM...

Are you clean flashing every time you jump around? Each time you are basically jumping to a completely different version of CM, so make sure you are completely clean flashing (IE wipe all of the partitions (except external SD) including system and internal SD before trying another CM.

I'm using open recovery and wiping data/factory reset, davlik, and cache every time
Hey Scott, you mind giving one of those old builds a whirl for me? Just for science's sake.
Update - I wiped the whole phone with RSD lite - same issues................................. jumped straight into the latest nightly - no data, AND no text messaging - mobile network state = disconnected
I have 2 MPQs, one on stock rom and one I am trying to get on CM - the one on stock rom always says Mobile Network Type = LTE:13. That is from Ting. The Mobile Network Type once I flash CM always just says "LTE" - obviously not the same. Does it matter that my base rom is 4.1.2?
Final Update - I downloaded the CM10.2 snapshot from the link you downloaded. At first I had no data. Then I switched to EVDO only and I had 3g. Then I went to the tile menu and I added LTE to the tile menu. LTE was off by default on the tile menu. I re-enabled LTE and then went to mobile networks and switched to CDMA +LTE/EVDO and miraculously, 4g appeared! I followed these steps on previous builds but it never did anything for me. So I dont know if it was the snapshot version or just messing with the settings over and over but I wish I had that 12 hours of my life back.
Its working now and I am going to let everyone know how it does. I appreciate your help as always Scott!
If you didnt remember, now you do.... I am THE KING of wasting forum space.
Hi all,
Starting to get frustrated with my 3a and looking for avenues to address difficulty in maintaining a data connection when on the move. In all other ways this phone has been great.
When I am on the move - on the train, or in a car - my phone seems to lose data connectivity after a period of minutes. It seems to be an issue with maintaining a data connection when switching from tower to tower (at a guess). The phone does maintain mobile reception and I can be on a call without dropouts, but if for example watching a video, the video will stop, and eventually I will get the little cross in the reception icon to indicate no data connection.
No issues when not moving about, but am currently doing a lot of work on the fly, so hotspotting or conference calls are near impossible. This didn't always seem to be a problem, but due to Covid (and not moving around for a while), not sure exactly when it started. Have done some googling and tried a new sim card + changing private DNS settings with no luck. On the latest available update.
Is this a known issue with this phone? Any way I can diagnose or fix? Or am I looking at a new phone at this point?
Have rooted and switched ROMs on many previous phones, so quite happy to go down that path if need be.
cheers
I understand you say this only happens when you are moving but I would recommend checking with whatever carrier anyway maybe look on your carrier help site and write your same post here there and see if anyone else experiences the same. I would also save everything to USB or PC and flash factory image via fastboot and let it wipe not removing the fastboot -w in the./flash-all.sh. You could use an app like LTE discovery and set it to where you know exactly what it's doing and when it does it because you can set a small beep sound or wherever. What carrier do you use? Maybe update roaming , prl and profile, if you use a CDMA carrier. Also what type of case are you using? Just a few things that I thought of after reading your post here. You've probably already done all this but if not that's definitely what I would do. And last but certainly not least, are you using a custom rom or stock? Maybe check your/apns-conf.xml/ aka your apns and make sure they're correct and all for your carrier. I don't think you have to worry about apns unless you are using a custom rom in which case I would definitely check it out because sometimes they can be not right. I use Metro by T-Mobile and I'm located in the USA.
If you are on a custom rom you could try the old apn fix and just see if it's apn related... Wouldn't hurt anything.. Just save your current /apns-conf.xml/ and delete the apns-conf.xml file in your /system/etc/ and in /system/product/etc/ and replace the one in /system/product/etc/ with the one i link here and set permissions on it to 0644, then go to settings on your phone /networks and internet/ mobile networks/ scroll to bottom there and select access point names. Should be a lil three dot thing in top right and when you hit that select "reset to default" or "reset to default apn" and wait another 60 seconds or so then reboot. That will replace your apn configuration file. My file is recently copied from my last custom rom where everything worked fine and I had no issues. If this somehow is related to an apn outa wack then this will fix it. I learned this back years ago on another device forum from spaceminer here on xda. I've used this many times since and it's always worked. Again you don't need to do this on stock , only if you are using a custom rom. I believe stock is good.
