[Q] ROM Manager wants to install Clockwork - HTC Sensation

Hey,
I would like to use the ROM manager, but he always wants to install clockwork.
I've already installed Clockwork but using a different method.
What can happen if I install it now again or how do I solve the problem?
Yet another question:
How do I find out which ROM I need? >Click<
Thanks.

I have another Question:
Whats the difference between the following ROMs:
RUU_Pyramid_HTC_Europe_1.45.401.2_Radio_10.56.9035 .00U_10.14.9035.01_M_release_208857_signed

As I know, the latest ClockWork Mod has issues with charging when the battery is dead. The fixed one has Blue writing, others have Purple and Orange I think.
I never used ROM Manager, so I don't know. You should wait for someone else to answer this

This is the link I used, as my RUU isn't listed in the other thread.
So, I'll give you an example of how I found out my ROM.
Basically, the file name says everything.
Open (Settings -> About Phone -> Software Information)
This is the RUU I used.
Code:
RUU_Pyramid_HTC_ARA_1.34.415.1_Radio_10.43a.9007.0 0U_10.51.9007.27_M3_release_197242_signed.exe
I'll split the file name into parts to make things clearer.
- RUU: (Rom Upgrade Utility)
- Pyramid: It is the model of the HBOOT I think.
- HTC:
- ARA: I bought the phone from Saudi Arabia, which is an Arabic country.
- 1.34.415.1: Software Number, can be found in (Settings -> About Phone -> Software Information)
- 10.43a.9007.0 0U_10.51.9007.27_M3: Radio/Baseband version, can be found in (Settings -> About Phone -> Software Information -> More)
- 197242: The build number of the ROM I suppose.
I believe you should take note of those before flashing Custom ROMs, as if you ever want to get back to Stock ROM.
I hope I cleared it up a bit for you

Thanks! I have a nandroid Backup of my Stock ROM, so I can check this.

I was going to ask the same thing. I had already installed Clockwork recovery using the fastboot.exe method after unlocking the bootloader. When I selected Check for ROM Updates from ROM Manager it said that Clockwork needed to be installed. Is there any harm in installing it again with this method? I did make a backup of my ROM using Clockwork.

I think it was just talking about flashing to the newest version (there are a lot of different versions of CWM linked on these threads and guides, but mostly they go to 4.0.14, and the latest is 5.0.20). The newest version has faster backups, but it looks like there are sporadic reports that the recovery won't charge when at low battery, which if true is a regression as this bug was specifically fixed in 4.0.14. At least that's my impression from reading the forums.

[Q] recovery v5.0.0.8 for the Sensation link not working

Hi there,
I am working through the Guide to Unlocking your Sensation and the link to recovery v5.0.0.8 for the Sensation is not working.
Is there another place I can download the file?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Lizzie.
Edit:
Looks like someone updated the MultiUpload Link. Thanks guys!
You may download it from here: http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/ Just search for ....pyramid.img and flash from fastboot.
But I suggest you to get the latest v 5.0.2.0. Works fine in every aspect.
New CWM Version?

How do I update to the new version? Will it affect the back-up files that I have already made?
Sorry if the questions seem silly.
I'm still trying to get the hang of all this!

Open up rom manager and hit the first option...it will flash to the latest CWM recovery. Your old bckups will still work.

Make sure you are connected to the internet via mobile or wifi. Then go to Rom manager. Open the app and press Flash ClockworkMod recovery and the bottom should list your old one and the phone will flash the new one automagically
now if i try unlock bootloader with htc dev method
fastboot oem get_identifier_token ---> [ERR] command errror !!!
Edit : WrongForum ....
may i ask how to flash the .img file?
I'm using the guide to S-OFF etc...
It states to use recovery v5.0.0.8.
A file called PG58IMG, I cant find this, I've S-OFF'd and I'm looking to update and then use recovery.
What's the best file? Does it need to be the Zip file?

I have uploaded CWM 5.0.2.0 here: http://www.axifile.com/en/EC384AC809
MD5: 85b5f10c9afe33fb50396bd5f54bc7de
I just flashed it on my phone and it seemed to work fine, I was on 5.0.2.0 and still am ;-)
I uploaded and downloaded it and it's the same MD5 as the one on my phone that worked.
Just rename to PG58IMG.zip boot up from scratch (Power and Vol -), vol + to flash. When it wants to reboot after flashing pop the SD-card out and rename it after booting.
I came across this, it might be abit outdated but I'm guessing it'll work fine.

I've put it into my root on my SD card, and updated it.
I'll do recovery now.

I've flashed the ROM, just rebooted... I'm guessing the first boot will take awhile.
Will all my data be on the phone?
I guess by checking System settings etc I can see if it's worked.
....I remember how frustrated I was when I found out that there were no working links anywhere. But, maybe I just didn't know how to search.

If you're changing ROMs did you Superwipe before flashing?
If you Superwipe all data/apps on the phone will be zapped, the SD card should remain intact.

Erm, I've only gone from stock to ARHD 4.1.13 so far...
All I did was S-OFF, CWM Recovery and flash the ROM on.
I haven't done anything else yet.
All my apps and data on my SD card are fine atm.
I do want to flash an ICS ROM onto my phone, I'll be following this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767

Yes, that was my exact feeling. I mean if you get a brand new £250 phone, then your not going to mess around with it, are you? No. You are going to try and get the prefect amount of information and clarity so you know you won't mess up.

In the ARHD (mike's) thread there is a SuperWipe script in the downloads. Use that when changing between ROM flavours, or if recommended by the dev when changing versions. E.g., VI from 2.0.0 -> 3.0.0 required a SuperWipe.
MAKE sure you take regular Nandroid backups before/after you changing anything.

That's precisely it, I've had my Sensation for a while now and want to get the full user-experience from it. I know it is irritating for you guys to have to answer the same Q&A's over and over again, I did try reading everything but with so many answers and so many flavours it's a bit overwhelming.
I might write a guide from a noobs perspective (for noobs) on what to do...

Oh right ok, well I've been advised to change my recovery to EXT4, which I'll do tomorrow. Nandroid backups, is that when I go into HBOOT and choose Recovery? That's a good idea. So when I do go to update my ROM to ARHD 6.xxx for ICS I'll use Superwipe to clear out my app etc... So by using recovery I'll keep my app data/saves etc?

I do evrything but when i get to bootloader he starts to read fails from sd card and then says phrasing****** and then nothing. How to root

Problem installing ADRH 6.7.0

Hey, I have a Sensation 4g, I was running ARHD version 3, on 2.3.4 android, I installed that around febraury.
Now I wanted to install the latest Android Revolution HD 6.7.0, I did everything as the list suggested I update the firmware( PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-1.27.1100). But when I install the rom everything goes as normal except that when I reboot in never boots into the rom, I have leave it over 20 mins, and nothing happens, I have tried several times, and I tried to restore back to version 3, everything seems "Restored" except it won't pass from htc logo again (I think it's because I have an updated firmware)
So, how do I manage to install the lasted arhd , or how do I do to downgrade the firmware in order to have it working again, I would prefer to have ICS, but I can't manage to do it, Please help, as my phone is unusable now.
thanks

Nice detailed description of what exactly is going on, we need more people like you on sensation forum (no i'm not being sarcastic, I'm just glad you have given clear, detailed description instead of crap like I read in other posts "help my phone wont boot" and no other details - sorry, rant over )
By the looks of it, I'm guessing you didnt super wipe when upgrading to lastest ROM version? when coming from GB ROM to ICS you need to do a full/super wipe otherwise phone wont boot.

I am indeed using 4ext, I have done as you said with no results. I am using a 4ext 1.0.0.2 and the latest is 0.4 or 0.5, I don't know if that really affects on something.

I remember seeing the exact issue when installing ARHD 6.6.3 for the first time. What I did is just updated the firmware and tried booting to the old stock rom. So this seems to be due to an unmatched firmware. Is that 3.33 firmware u used?

Also, would you suggest that trying to install other rome would solve this?

ok
shall we go by step by step ?
1.can you post the bootloader details (complete stuff present in the bootloader ...a screen shot of it would do too )
2.if you can use adb/fastboot ..and have them installed already
can you please connect the phone in fastboot/bootloader to pc (phone reads "fastboot usb" after that )
then post the complete output of this below command
(except IMEI and serial number)
fastboot getvar all
3. check the md5 of the ARHD rom you have downloaded ...and verify it against the one given in the thread ...just below the download button it will be there (in general)
(md5sum can be done via 4EXT recover itself ... 4EXT -> install from sdcrad -> calculate/check md5)

no, 3.33.401.106 is the next one then it is 3.33.401.153
However, you can just flash the RUU and it will put you on 3.33.401.153 without having to flash 3.33.401.106 - also because you are rooted the OTA file may fail to run whereas the RUU wont.

Regardless of whether my hoster's website is down, my FTP remains up so you can still download the file using the link I posted. Its self explanatory and comes with instructions within the installer, it will wipe your phone so I would suggest doing a nandroid backup of data only then restoring data from a custom recovery (you will have to reflash the custom recovery after the RUU has finished because it will return you to stock recovery)

I'm sure you are getting annoyed with me by now So just say if this is the way to do it
-Backup important stuff on sd card with app
-Follow instruction on .exe
-Then i have a stock phone and it is updated
-Restore my data....

I think with an app like that you need root to use it (Titanium backup needs root) and to root you still need a custom recovery so I would just recommend the method I suggested but apart from that the method is correct

Finally got round to doing this and i got an error 115
'ERROR [155~159]: IMAGE ERROR'... One of these error messages will appear when you use the incorrect RUU to update and the image file size is larger than the Flash ROM size. In this case, download the correct RUU version and try again.
Should i update to the 3.33.401.106 RUU first. If so, where do I find it?
Sorry about this

[Q] HTC Sense UI stops working very often. How to fix it?

Hello
Phone: Sensation XE, 4.0.3 Android, 3.6 UI, Stock ROM, Locked (unROOTed)
So, I'm having a problem with my UI in HTC - it stops working very often. Usually when I'm unplugging the USB cable or changing the mode to Charge only.
I can root the phone and install custom ROM but I don't want to lose all the files [or if you guys can give me some program to back up my stuff, so I could put it on my PC]. Everything is ready to do it (the chinese program to root the phone and the vipers custom ROM is already on my SD card [dont even know if i will lose it after rooting).
But will it help to fix the problem? Because I was thinking that if the UI stops working, so maybe I have to install new one (4.1 included in Vipers ROM, i guess).
And by the way, can you tell me when I would loose the files? (wile rooting or installing the ROM?)
Cheers, Michael.
if you follow the S-OFF procedure backup all your contents from your sdcard to the pc
when you root after S-OFF you sdcard will be untouched
also when you flash the rom will be again untouched

when you do S-OFF you unlock all device's partitions
then you can root and flash a custom recovery
see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661631
by the way how were you going to root it?
The program is called ZhuoDaShi. I accidentally uninstalled the program, because everything is in chinese LOL! I thought I'm launching the program.
But do you think i should download this program again or I shouldn't be bothered and pick different one? (Maybe you could give it)
About the S-OFF, will my 32GB SD card be ok with it?

Hi there again.
I've got a problem with rooting the phone.
So, my phone is S-OFF (it says in hboot) and its locked.
My problem is that I can't unlock it. I have downloaded super user (su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip) and i installed it through hboot/recovery and it installed everything, but i still dont have root rights and in hboot menu it says S-OFF ... LOCKED
Have I done something wrong?

no you are fine now
completely unlocked
ignore the locked situation
you can flash a patched hboot.see here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767
flash 3.33 universal
it has instructions on how to flash it
and before flashing check md5 sums
about root flash this from recovery
http://download.chainfire.eu/315/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.25.zip
then see if you have root access
MD5?
I searched internet for it... Still dont know. But Ive donwloaded MD5 Checker and there are 2 options: file 1-file 2 ::and:: text - MD5 / MD5 - text
What should I be looking at?
EDIT:
OK, wait. I know whats MD5 (a bit). So i checked the code from the file i have downloaded - the firmware. It should be same as my firmware?
If so... how can I take my firmware and put it on the pc to check it in the program?

do this
put the firmware zip into the root of your sdcard
then from your device use any file manager you have and navigate to that zip
press and hold in that zip until it pops up a menu
go to properties and select calculate md5 checksum or something like that
then see if it matches with the one from firmware's thread
can I ask a very nooby question?
my steps of which files I should install now are;
1. hboot that u gave me link
2. flash 3.33 - same link
3. another link with super user after installing the files before ?
ok I checked the md5 for flash 3.33 on my phone - its the same as given on the forum
so I should just install it step by step with points that I showed you?
once again, sorry for that question, shouldn't waist Ur time
I still need help! Please

hi, mate sorry for the late
so if you say that md5 sums are matching then:
flash 3.33 firmware.it will take care too for the patched hboot
after that flash the superuser zip from recovery
done
No worrys. Thanks.
I'm just changing to other sd - I have all root files needed on it.
Tell me, why do I need to flash those 2 files (3.33 and su-update) if I already made the root?
But there's one more question bothering me; how can md5 be different on other devices IF its still the same file?
And how should I know if my md5 is different if other users don't give md5 to their files?
I think it was the last question.
Many thanks and best wishes

the 3.33fw gives you also patced hboot as i said
that means you can perform fastboot commands(with locked bootloader you can't)
if you are already rooted then don't use the su zip
1)i don't know.the only thing i know is if you modify a zip file then the md5 is changing too
2)especially in firmware thread it will always give md5 sums for matching because if it is different(bad download or corrypted file)
the device will probably bricked
now if you have installed a recovery try to flash a custom rom
all custom roms comes already rooted
Ok. In hboot it says firmware 3.33
But I still don't have root rights.
What I should do now is install the:
1. Su update (that you gave me) - through; hboot, racovery, install zip files
And if I will have root rights
2. Install custom rom - the same way as step one
AND ALL OF IT WITHOUT CLEARING SD CARD AND MOBILE?

1)backup your current rom just in case(nandroid backup)
2)format all partitions except sdcard
3)flash the rom
done
by the way what recovery did you install?

I flashed the su and after it - I could give root permission for applications.
I installed CynaogenMod 10.1 and I dont like it, because a bit of stuff does not work.
Now Im waiting untill DarkSense will be downloaded.
Im using CWM that came with Rom Menager.
By the way, do you know whats the best solution to keep all my contacts and apps for every rom? (i know that i should restore my old rom and than use the solution [that i wish u would give me], but its still worth it)
And what kernel would u pick to save as much battery as possible?

for your contacts you can use mobile backup 2.it is free in google play store
most users are using titanium backup for apps when they are switching roms.me personally i have never used it
about kernel it depends from your personal usage and what settings will you do(overclock,UV etc)
so long i am using sebastianFM's kernel.i am happy with it

[Q] Radio, Firmware and Cyanogen?

Hello all, I have got my hands on a HTC Sensation and wish to use this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2115520 , but I'm curious as to what I need.
The Sensation currently runs the stock HTC ICS (and thus I'm guessing has the necessary Radio roms and firmware, and such for ICS).
So, do I need to update any of them (and if so how) if I want to move to Jellybean?
Many thanks, any details I can find bellow!
Android version
4.0.3
HTC Sense version
3.6
Software number
3.33.401.53
Kernel version

Hi,
I was only asking,so that I give you the necessary information for your next step...
So, can I assume that you are s-on?
Look HERE
You need to be dev unlocked, and have 4 EXT recovery installed.
Then, follow the thread to use "Smartflash" option to install custom ROMS like albinoman's.
Also, before installation, back up your stuff.
Use the "Format all partitions except sd card" in 4EXT recovery,in order to clean your phone and prepare it for a new ROM.

Ta, one last thing:
Should I do this from a vanilla, locked factory phone, or must I still go about rooting first?
And, would I still need Clockworkmod or does EXT4 replace that?

Hi,
The thread I gave you has all the steps that you must follow.
You must be unlocked in order to install 4 EXT recovery and root.
Yes , CWM gets replaced by 4 EXT (not EXT4......2 different things )
Thanks

One last, I promise
So I:
Unlock Bootloader
4EXT and Rom
Then I'm done?
And how would I go about recovering and factory reseting if things turn sour?

Hi,
Yes.
Once you get 4EXT recovery on your phone,go to the "Backup and Restore" option.
Make a nandroid(Backup),of your ROM.
Save that to your PC.
You can restore that if it all goes pear-shaped.
Read the thread carefully first.
It is all very well set out, and easy to follow.
You can also flash a stock ROM,but the nandroid is the best safety net.
Thanks so much

Hi,
No problem.
Just so that you know, there is a Dedicated Help Thread for the albino ROM.
In case you run into problems ,once you have the ROM installed.
