was wondering if anyone else with the sensation has seen this.
was just using the phone on speaker phone and press volume down to turn down a bit and the button popped out of the back cover and the little clip on the button that holds in place seems like is has broken and wont stay together.

I haven't personally seen this (yet) but there is already a thread about this in here...can't recall the title but a search should easily find it
I also saw that thread about a week ago.
Get a back cover replacement from HTC. They'll make you send you back your old one, though.
yeah could not find the other post after a few searches so I started this one.
I have since called htc.
they needed a credit card on file but have a replacement back being sent out and then I send mine back to them.
For now clear tape holding the button in place now.

I made a thread on this... My volume rocker fell out.
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using XDA Premium App
My volume rocker annoys me lol, the bottom clicks like I want it to and the top is literally flat and have to press slightly harder for it to work.
I'm right there with ya pal. Seems kinda cheap for a piece to fall off after one month. Oh well, i got my new backplate today and hopefully it wont happen to the new one!

Has anyone noticed something reddish and rough on the volume rocker surface after using it for more than 6 months? I hope its not rust and just polish that has eroded...I stay in Mumbai where the climate is quite humid that's why i think its rust..
Yes I have the same issue, a coppery colour with rough texture, my power button has also started to loose the silver finish.
But do you think its rust or just eroded polish??
Of course its not rust. The rocker is alloy-plated. After a while it disappears. Sad but true
Thank god it isnt rust...but i have heard that cheap metals also get rust ..
Same with me. Coppery brown color on volume and power keys. The silver color is no more.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
yep mines the same, its just the silver wearing off, there is nothing to worry about, its just a shame they didnt use solid metal insted of the plastic with silver coating.
Good for you. My volume rocker essentially failed, the volume down function barely works, I have to press it very hard. Does anyone have experience about RMA in this case?

I dropped my phone and it landed on its side bending my volume rocker down the centre, It kept falling out as it no longer fitted properly, inevitably one day I lost the rocker but I bought a replacement online, it was slightly expensive for what it is but in no way costly. You can pry your old one off with something thin, a small blob of adhesive holds in on the the middle of the rocker, and then 1 metal and 1 rubber (?) tab hold it into the phone. The rubber tab is at the bottom of the rocker so pry with something thin from there.
I bought mine http://www.parts4repair.com/products/HTC-Desire-HD-Volume-Button.html there. I choose the cheapest delivery which took almost 2 weeks to the UK. Its up to you whether you choose this option or not. I thought I would just put it out there incase anyone wants to replace their volume rockers.
That may happen in the near future if my phone falls for 2 times or more!...but thats good information @didge3...and why are you still using ARHD 5.2.1 when 6.1.0 is out?But if you prefer sense 2.1 wasn't 5.2.6 the smoothest?

Thank you, but I think my problem is with the volume down button itself, and according the site you linked this case I would have to buy a motherboard flex cable that is about $50...
I´ve been using a silicon case since day one (17. November 2010)
Everything still looks like on day one...
I would send it in to HTC, they can replace the buttons ...
They have outstanding service!

Should really update my signature more often! When I posted I was running 5.2.1, and shortly after I bumped up to 5.2.6 but too be honest I was looking at 6.1 and thinking I'm a little bored of Sense so now I'm running MIUI+, a slight change....
Also got this, it's a real shame. The paint is only coming off on the bottom side, and also the actual button is starting to break off the phone at the bottom !
I blame all the reboots into recovery...

Yeah, me too. A good silicon case is certainly worth it and for me the phone feels better in hand. I use this very one (from this review).
the volume rocker is one weak link in an otherwise excellent phone,,
barely a month after i bought a new DHD, and my "" vol - "" aint working !
have to use software to adjust vol,,,,
Agree, a good case is the answer. Got a nice case of play.com. It's a exspect case paid about £6, bargin, kept mine safe for months now. Give a look...

I returned it like 2 times now and the stupid thing is just falling apart on me every time. What have you guys done to fix it?
Just noticed mine doing this a day or 2 ago, the corner by the home button. It cant really be seen but you can feel it if you push towards the corner or push home decently hard.
Have not had this issue at all.
I have noticed that sometimes when push home button area. I can feel the glass "re-seat" back to where it should be. It's not much movement, but just enought to feel it pop back in. Love this phone, home it lasts another 14 months
This has scared me quite a bit a few days ago, I thought my screen was starting to fall off (it would "re-seat" when I pressed close to the home button, like bdaman80 said)... then I simply removed the sim card cover, and placed it back.
It's probably not the case if you had to return it, and its falling apart for real, for that I have nothing else to say other then, either take it back again, or search ebay for screen replacements to fix it yourself (some even come with the tools necessary).
Godspeed my friend!
I'll wait for it to get fully fubarred first.
Mine is doing it by home button too. Any danger of it coming off totally?

I don't see it coming off completely. Me and a couple of my friends have had the same issue with ours and mine has been doing it for about 4 months now. It hasn't got any worse.
Oh ok good to know! This is the second one because volume switch on the original broke (trust me. It made clockwork interesting with only volume down.) so I didn't want to have to try to send it back. Worse case scenario, I have to buy a new screen and put it in myself. best case scenario, it just bugs us all for the next 15 months until renewal time haha
Mines lifted from the search button just a lil

This.. (Corner by the Home button)
I got mine a few days after launch and it started doing it about a week later. There were a bunch of threads shortly after launch about it. Mine has not gotten any worse - and the bottom of the screen is even shattered now, has been for about a month. I don't think the screen is going anywhere...
Got mine in November. Haven't had an issue with it. Hopefully I won't.

My glass hasn't shown any signs of lifting. Have you tried a mild adhesive (NOT SUPER GLUE) to get it to stay?

Though today I did press near the search button and heard a....crack? Might have just been me but I certainly hope my glass isn't lifting.

I think what I heard was the bottom cover through my case. I inspected the phone and it seems fine.
Been having problems with my power button feeling a little too loose for comfort. It's alright when I try and click it and all, but it doesn't feel as solid as my home buttons or the volume buttons.

Very common with all GS3 models.
Samsung has been improving, but they don't really have the best build quality.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
yes. my first S3 had a bad radio so they sent me another. this replacement had a very loose power button and I had to insert little pieces of paper in my case (UAG) in the power button cutout for me to be able to push the button. this was still very finicky. still too hard to press, but an extra piece of paper made my phone constantly reboot. I finally called verizon and told them that my power button fell off (lie) and that I put it back in and it was all loosey goosey. they sent me another replacement and the button works great. no complaints now.

Well, I had one fall off, and I had one "CLN" (Certified Like New) come in with the power button in the bottom of the box and before I could get it working the volume rocker fell off. I'd have to say it was not a good day for glue in the re-certify facility! :silly: I shipped it back to them with both buttons taped to the back of the device.
I talked to a supervisor and had my phone replaced with a new one after three strikes. This one is working like a champ!
One thing: a lot of the better cases and holsters (like all the Otterbox models, for example) have 'captive' covers over both the power button and the rocker, so unless you're into changing batteries a lot or have a crack-flashing habit, you're probably saving yourself a bit of headache(s) by investing another $20-$35 in a decent case. Personally, after having an Otterbox "Defender" strapped onto my hip (previous Moto Bionic), I went with the "Commuter" series case this time. KoolKase makes a good holster for that model (Otterbox "Commuter"), but I've only seen it on ebay for about $10.
For Christmas I got an otterbox case. I was happy about it and have had it on ever since, but when cleaning my one x screen I went to click the lock/power button and noticed it didn't click in like it used to and seemed a little bit harder to push. Its not really a problem but it aggravates me. Is there anyway to fix it?
Sent from Megadoug13's Nuclear Device
Is the button itself jammed in? If you can't pop it out with something very fine, you might have to disassemble the phone to see what the state of the button looks like.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Well if I take the very edge of my finger nail (hard enough cause I hardly have any) and push I can feel it click... But with the pad of my finger it seems really hard to push. I won't put my otterbox case back on because I'm afraid of further damage

Yep, another thing is a few gentle flicks in combination with a good jet of compressed air.

I noticed it was hard to push on my case after a few hours of use but I thought okay rubber... Its gonna take a little bit more, after a day or two it seem really difficult to push my power/lock button. So last night I took my case off and realized my button didn't click anymore, it works just doesn't click which makes it hard to use :/
Sent from Megadoug13's Nuclear Device
A number of people have had that problem. Your options are to live with it or replace it. I know there's at least one guy in this forum it completely stopped on him and now he just runs roms that support sleep to wake lol
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda app-developers app
Like you said before, it might be the rubber getting in the way while you have the case on. By design, the power button is kinda hard to press anyways and feedback on that button is questionable at best. I have the Platinum Series case from Best Buy, and after 3 months of great use, the power tab broke off (After reading alot of feedback on that happening ..)
I've since moved to Elemental Kernel which enabled swipe to lock and unlock. Works a lot better than the button IMO. Only time you would need to use the power button in that case would be to reboot your phone.
I used to have an otterbox. Hated it. Once the rubber gets loose, you'll replace it and see that your buttons are fine. It's just the design of the case and the phone. The phone power button is actually kind of slightly down and not flat so it should be pushed in at an angle. The rubber button doesn't press at this angle until it gets pushed all the way down.
I am having this same issue. I purchased the phone used from a guy who used an otterbox case. I took the case off immediately when I bought it. There was gunk caked into the front camera, and the power button is tough to depress. I am rooted, so I doubt I can bring the phone back to AT&T.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Hi. Simple Problem but very annoying.
I can't put a cover/case on my HTC One S because when I do, the phone shut down.
The cover compress the back piece and makes the little button get stuck (as the same as if I was holding it) and then the phone shut down.
If I remove the back piece, I can put the cover/case on no problem. But than, that little button is hard to find and dust can enter in my phone.
Is this a problem that every user have with hard cover on their HTC One S?
I don't wanna spent another 15$ dollar on a gel cover that will make my phone do the same thing... but I wanna get a cover...
No cover, this phone won't last me a year!
You guys found a cover for your HTC One S?
I'm starting to think that it might not be a cover/case problem but a phone problem....
Thanks in advance !
Sorry for the english, not my first language.
havent used any case but i dont think your button is supposed to act in that manner
To be Sure, check with HTC service center and maybe they could help

Sounds like a badly made case, send it back if you can and buy a better one. I use an Otterbox Defender and have no problems with the buttons.

My cover has a hole where the power button is, it's not the most awesome case ever (if any it's a bit plain) but I found it in a vodafone store with the screen protector included.
I hope it helps.
