Sorry for this admins if this is in the wrong spot, but i have no forum rights other than here.
I have extensively researched your forum, plus Cyanmod and have done everything i can think of to get my GPS to work on my HTC INSPIRE, but to no avail. Dammm thing still says SEARCHING for GPS.
Not sure if i have to leave it for a while i did it for like 10 minutes yesterday and nothing...... I have read that 7.0.2 fixes this but i guess its not true since i still have the problem.
Can someone please help me with this?
Maybe to avoid duplication of a thread on this same topic, you can just PM me here
I am well familiar with forums etiquette (being a moderator myself) and i know how annoying it is to have duplicate threads created for no reason.
Again my apologies if this is the case
Thanks.
Javier.
Reflashing the radio might get GPS back.

Can you please elaborate on this? or maybe just direct me to a post that someone else did already with steps? I am a learn once kind of person...once i see and do it, i won't forget....i got the reflashing part down pact...

If you are on a stock rom, use the att one
If you are on a gingerbread rom, use on that says gb
On the bootloader screen it says this:
ACE PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-0.85.0019
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26.06.04.06_M
eMMC-boot
Have no clue what the hell that means....
Based on this....do i have to flash the ATT one?

Since you have CM7 which I believe is a gingerbread ROM, its usually suggested to flash a gingerbread radio. From what you mentioned, you have a stock at&t radio with a gingerbread ROM.
ok, when i rooted my phone, i used this (i can't post the link, but you if google exactly what i am about to put below, its the first choice):
root-htc-inspire-4g-soff-click-root-tool
Then, for the radio flashing, i found this which i want to ask if it will work....looks simplified.
How To Flash Radio On HTC Inspire 4G or HTC Desire HD
Again, its the first choice when you google that.
Let me know guys if i am heading in the right direction. I am not sure what Radio i actually have....don't want to screw it up since messing with the radio can brick i think.
Thanks

If you go into settings>about phone>software information.. and look under Baseband version, thats what shows you what radio you have.
You mentioned you have RADIO-26.06.04.06_M which is a stock at&t radio.
Download the gingerbread radio and flash it using those instructions.
It should bring back GPS.
Ok, i have the file in both .zip and in .img format....
I am having issues flashing this to my phone....
I tried doing it via bootloader and doing
adb fastboot flash radio.img
it says something * not recognized *
its like it won't read it or something....
I tried doing recovery and using the "ZIP" file thinking i can just trick it but it said updating failed
Any easier way of getting this in my phone?
Isn't there a way of just going to the FILE i have and replacing with this one?
Just a thought.

ok, again THANKS SO MUCH for all your help man....
I figured out how to flash the radio (didn't know i had to go into Hboot and let it do it by itself )
Got now a new version than previous after checking....
so i am now checking the GPS on it....
Do you have a good app you can suggest that will test it for me better...showing me if it is actually looking for the satelites, ect... ?
how long should it take for the GPS to catch at first?

Also, if you have a case, remove it and try it (outdoors) to see if you get better GPS reception.
Hi folks,
I have read a number of guides and threads on the forum but I can't work out if any apply to what I want to do. I'm sure the info may be there but its not clear to me.
Basically I want root on my Desire S so that I can use aps like LUKS Manager, Orbot and so on. I don't want to install a new ROM as I'm happy with my what I have at the moment.
My hboot is 2.00.0002 and my Radio is 3822.10.08.04_M
Is what I want to do possible? If not and I have to install a new ROM is it possible to find one that matches what I have at the moment? How do I identitfy what that is?
Thanks in advance for all the help!

everything is possible. Just follow the guides in this forum how to root your device (I recommend not to use htcdev). You don't have to install a new ROM.
But my personal opinion is to use a custom ROM, since they often have much more possibilities for customizing and a lot modifications for speed and performance. Are you still using stock ROM with sense 3.0 ?
Sent from my Desire S using XDA App
Hi, thanks for the reply. I've only accepted the updates provded by my network so I guess thats the stock ROM?
Yep, its HTC Sense 3
I must be missing something basic because from all the guides i've read you have to install a new ROm to keep root?

Yes, it's stock right now.
At first you need to s-off your device (caution, you are about to void your warranty). You can do that using the revolutionary tool. Then you have to root, which can be done with superoneclick.
(edit: at this point you need to install a recovery like 4ext or cwm)
Root will not be undone when installing a
New ROM, neither do you need to install a new ROM. But I recommend to use a ROM with sense 3.5, it's much better.
You can find tutorials for everything I'm talking about right here in the forums.
Sent from my Desire S using XDA App
Ah, thats great, thanks. I didn't get that superoneclick could allow you to keep root.
Much appreciated.
I'll also look into the Sense 3.5. thanks again!
I forgot to mention: after rooting,
You need to install a custom recovery like 4ext or cwm. It's for backing up your system and flashing roms and updates and anything else you need
Sent from my Desire S using XDA App
Ok, so if I get s-off and then keep root by using superoneclick does that mean that I won't be able to receive updates through my network?

If your s-off and rooted the installer will not install the update (never tried cause I dont use stock rom) - but there are alway newest rooted stock roms here on xda and you can update your system manually. Most of the time before your carrier sends you the "official" update.
But yes, you have to do it by yourself.

But I think if you s-off and root and DO NOT install any other ROM you might still be able to download official updates for your stock ROM over the air
Sent from my Desire S using XDA App
Yes, you can use OTA (Over The Air update) ... but I think after that, you will loose your root
look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1186401 FAQ's No. 5
ok, went to have a go at this but it looks like getting S-Off is quite complicated as well. I'm on HBOOT 2.00.0002.
Is there a shorter route to achieving root than:
downgrade
s-off
superoneclick (for root)
install custom recovery
If there isn't now is it likely to become available in the future or is the Desire S just difficult to do this with?
If You don't want to change rom, then stay s-on, unlock bootloader with htcdev and use superoneclick.

I get that the steps might be easy enough, but there are quite a lot of them and instructions can contain loops when put together (I.e. downgrading to get root may require root in some instructionals). I do appreciate your help and advice though. I may well switch ROMs, especially in the future (I can't see myself affording a new phone any time soon!)

ok i am late but i think i can help.
first of all stop confusing the damn guy with different kinds of stuff. even i was like him before rooting my precious desire s. he will learn the advantages and disadvantages of revolutionary s-off as time passes by.
for now follow this guide as i did this (and trust me i had the same intentions as you do)
first get your adb and fastboot setup, this is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1272595
then go to htcdev and unlock your phone. follow the process, its easier than you think.
after your done, download superoneclick and root your phone. if you dont know much about superoneclick then search around or google it and you will find your anwsers. one more thing, htcdev will reset your phone.
sorry if i am late if you have already rooteed your phone.

Folks, I wouldn't call myself a n00b in flashing phones--I've been flashing ROMs since my HTC Wing so I feel like I have a decent amount of experience under my belt. But this Sensation...
From the start, performing S-OFF was tricky in itself, particularly with the paperclip trick. Miraculously, it worked after the third try. Flashing ROMs was a whole different monster. Even with 4ext, I could only flash THREE ROMs from the huge collection in the Development forum. And I honestly don't even know why--I kept on getting Error 0 for every build I tried to load. It was only through luck or magic that I was able to flash HyperNonsense, a MIUI build, and another one that I don't remember. Upgraded 4ext to latest version: nope. Changed SD card: nope. Different sequences of superwipe/no superwipe, clear dalvik, etc.: nope. I'm using HyperNonsense for now since it's pretty legit, but even then, I'm getting reboots all over the place. Stock kernel or different kernels--doesn't matter. I have a hunch it has to do with the bottom row of capacitive buttons running so hot.
Oh well, just holding out for the One X+ on T-Mobile or the next Nexus device. Just wanted to let out my despair and frustration. Thanks, guys. :good:
Long live the HD2. :silly:
Have you tried not using superwipe and using factory reset/wipe from 4ext recovery instead? Never had a problem with that.
Also I've never had to use the wire trick to have S-OFF. Gained it back when I was running GB, and still have it. Even after flashing OTA updates.

It has nothing todo with the capacitive buttons running hot. Have you tried a different recovery like CWM because this seems like a recovery issue. As a side note, try disabling signature verification in 4EXT or better still, attempt to flash a ROM with aroma installer in and then save the aroma log and post it here

The wire trick is only necessary if you got screwed out of every other S-OFF method. I used Revolutionary and got S-OFF the day I rooted it. As for your ROM issues, that's pretty odd and unheard of to me. Try to flash one of those error 0 ROMs and Dump your recovery.log here after the flash, I'll look at it. As for the capacitive buttons, it's not the buttons running hot, but the fact that the CPU is literally right behind it. It doesn't run hot for me unless I start a game, and even that varies by ROM. Never gets hot on CM9. HyperNonSense 3.3 always runs hot though, no matter what. hyperNonSense 2.7 was the best :/
Anyway send in the recovery log, I'll try help you with that. PM me as well because I won't remember this thread after 5 minutes.

Your problem may be that you flashed the wrong FW for your CID - that is why superCID is important because it allows you to flash any variation of the firmware you like (you will have seen there are about 10+ variations of the 3.33 firmware)
So maybe try superCID (its really easy) then reflash the radio

True! i never had to use paperclip to S-OFF mine. Both the official HTC method (on HTC website) AND the non-official method here on XDA worked for me to S-OFF my sensation.
I didn't mind the paperclip method too much. I think I needed to do it because my HBOOT was of a different version than the regular easy-to-root versions.

This thread could be useful for other XDA members if they run into the same problems that I did and are searching for solutions. But instead, they have to to read through your useless posts. This clutters up the whole thread and detracts from all the members who have helped with a response and possible solution.

There are a LOT of useful threads with lots of useful info here. This isn't one of them. Just re-read your original post and stop being such a moron, thanks.
wow, no ****, Sherlock. But I couldn't find an answer so that's why I created this thread. Thanks for not helping. And thanks for cluttering up this thread. Don't start calling others a moron without evaluating yourself first.
I've been running CM9 for a few weeks now, but have decided that I want to get S-Off and open the phone's capability up some more... Anyway, I'm on a MT4GS:
HBOOT 1.45.0013
Nov 21 2011 build
Tried flashing this https://www.cx.com/mycx/share/O2W61....00_11.16.3504.20_2_release_245247_signed.zip
from weekendsr2short's mirror page (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1878329) of Blue6ix's stuff...(i tried autoflashing from the bootload/fastboot screen)
anyway, it loads up like it is going to actaully flash, but nothing changes on the Bootloader screen. The phone is unlocked via HTC's tool and is rooted. Any help is greatly appreciated! Please lemme know if any more info is needed.

If you're rooted, install a stock-based ROM and then use juopunutbear.

OK, that's what I was hoping to do. I noticed in the JB instructions that it said I must be a stock RUU not a custom ROM or something to that effect. I am on CWM 5.Something so a rom flash is NP. Any recommended ROMs? I.e One that worked for you? I tried the wire trick about 100 times over the course of an hour or so(on cm9.1), but then reread the bit shout the rom again.
Thanks for all the responses so far!
Any stock based ROM will do. I went with MikTouch myself and it worked like a charm! (on the 4th try so be patient....)

Which I have Also already read, but noticed this time that I cannot be unlocked via HTC and still flash pg59imgs... so im off to relock, if the stock rom method doesn't work...

well, one down, one to go. I have my phone all dialed in...now its time to fix my wife's... Thanks again Gents! (& Ladies, as applicable!)
edit: well, hers is done now... I ended up using another SD card, the original one I tried was kinda old, but the newer one I normally use worked on the 2nd try... didnt lose any data either... her sd card on the other hand was toasted and needed to be reformated... anyway, both phones are now S-Off!!

Man, that's GREAT! Once you knew HOW, the process was nothing for you. That's a far cry from most. Way to go!

yeah, Ive been running root since my MT3G way back when...couldnt stand how laggy that thing was with all the bloat... wasnt even that great with CM6 but still night and day better than stock (=hooked on rooting). then upgraded to the MT4g and now this thing... was fairly concerned about all the extra hoops but wouldve just chosen another platform had I borked it...glad I didnt, saved me some funds!
On a related note, what radios are you guys running? Are there any issues between the GB radios and ICS ones? Im assuming so, but with the custom ROMs/kernels anything should be able to be overcome I'm hoping... I know I def. had issues on CM7 -> CM9 on the reg. 4G when swapping radios...
I don't generally swap my radios around since there are only two that I'm aware of. But I DID find that the new one (when I replaced my phone) seemed to lock a signal a bit quicker but for me the original radio gets MUCH better phone reception. Depends on your phone I suppose.
(you'll be glad you went with this phone though. basically a Sensation with a keyboard)

cool, I just flashed the older one today... been having really crappy recption on campus lately (esp. since switching from the MT4G) better reception is what I'd rather have... ill give this one a week or so and see if I think its any better... I like the phone a lot already... i still use the soft keyboard from time to time as I forget the other one is there, but it comes in really handy on certain sites...
Hello guys, I've been lurking the forums for hours trying to find a thread with an issue close to mine, and this is the closest I got. I followed all the necessary steps on the first page, but the problem I'm having is when I try to flash the PG59IMG.zip file, it says "Loading... PG59IMG.zip", but then it says "Checking....PG59IMG.zip" and afterwards it says "Wrong zipped image!" Any ideas what it could mean? I just want to get it back to stock. Any help is greatly appreciated.
THIS MAY HELP YOU
Thanks for the link. It said I need to relock the phone in order to flash the image, but when i type "fastboot oem lock" into command prompt, I get a message saying 'fastboot' is not recognized as an internal or external command, inoperable program or batch file." I'm guessing this means my fastboot wasn't set up correctly, but I don't know where to go from here. As always, thanks again for any help or advice.
The third post in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27796375
It was made for the g2 so don't use the drivers in it, but it will at least give you an idea of what to do

Does fastboot work like this
./fastboot oem lock
On my PC some of my fastboot commands need that.

Thanks so much for your help guys. I followed the instructions on the pathing link, and the phone is currently flashing the image. I'll post a final time once I can confirm everything is fine.
So I am a noob to HTC phones. I understand what S-Off is but I am not entirely sure what I could with my phone with it that I can't do now. I am trying to understand whether I should go through the process since there is always the risk of bricking. Thanks!
I have no idea what S-Off is :/ i need some enlightenment

a simple search on the net can tell you what it does
but it does a lot of "techie" things you're not suppose to do

I did do that. It said that I could flash ROMs, Radios, stop my bootloader from saying unlocked. Most of this things with the exception of the last I can already do. I was just wondering if there is something that I could be missing out from. Thanks!
Contrary to popular belief, s-off actually has very little to do with your phone being rooted. S-OFF stands for Security-Off, which basically allows you to modify any partition on the device, and changes will not be reset upon a reboot. Also, the signature checking of the firmware zips is disabled, allowing users to flash unsigned firmware zips containing the separate images of the partitions.
Very simply put, that's what it is. There is a lot more to it that you guys can probably look up. For a user on an hboot below 1.14 it really doesn't do all that much, but it's very useful for devs and people post-hboot 1.14
I'm not totally sure what it will do for us, but it was easy enough for me to go through with it, took about 5 minutes if you've already got ADB/Fastboot set up.
I heard it could take away that stupid red paragraph when I boot and that was all I needed to hear haha
I feel like I just got a new toy but can't read the instruction manual... can I flash a new radio? do I need to do something special like flash through fastboot?
I know I sound like a broken record but
I'd love to see someone create a dual boot program for our phone.

You got to wait for the new tools to be released. Nothing happens automatically AFAIK.
You can flash ROMs on newer hboot without fastboot

so how do you get rid of the red text on boot??? and also how can the unlocked/ tampered flags be reset (while staying unlocked)

Things will come, just have to give the devs a chance since we just got s-off.
SouL Shadow gave an excellent response to the question here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38169711&postcount=2462
But as already indicated, things will come in the future, it really doesn't gain much at the moment. Especially for those still on pre-1.14 hboot (and can already flash radios, kernels from recovery).
