Okay so This Morning I Updated to the new FOTA pushed out by TMO.
I'm currently waiting on the Bootloader unlock from HTC.
I was wondering, when I root will it be the same process as the ones posted AND would I be able to get it back to STOCK if I want to sell it or Send it in for hardware issues?

Hi, got my G1 from a friend who got it from T-mobile.
Its unlocked and rooted. I tried checking about->update and it keeps saying that im using the latest version. I have RC33 installed.
also would upgrading to cupcake lock my phone again? do i need to unlock it again?
thanks
since its rooted no you will not reciecieve an OTA update, or you might but it wont work.....
on top of that id venture to guess root or not anyone not on T-mobile isnt going to be recieving OTA updates
The OTA updates come from Google, not T-Mobile, so your carrier wont affect it. Country shouldn't matter either (as far as I know) and no, you wont have to unlock it again
thanks for your replies.
I got a copy of cupcake from the net, just wondering should I wait for JF's mod? or is cupcake good enough even you dont have a rooted phone?
RC or ADP Cupcake ? and where ?
So I just got my new Inspire today in the mail but I have been having a b!tch of a time trying to unlock it!
So far both Cell Unlock Store & HTC Unlock have not been able to find a code to unlock it?
I received a reply back from both and thus far Cell Unlock Store is the only one who refunded me immediately upon finding no code...still waiting on a refund from the HTC place...won't use them again
Has anyone else had success or failures unlocking this device short of rooting it?
Cheers

Honestly rooting it is the easiest way.
OK but will rooting shaft me on warranty issues?
Can I still run the stock Sense etc minus the bloatware via rooting?

Accidentally hit thanks sorry about that. It will "void your warranty" while it is rooted unlocked and s-off, but to get your warranty back all you have to do is flash the ruu which is in the dev section.
There are a few stock rooted roms that actually improve the speed of the stock rom while removing bloat.
There is a few people on here that have had a rooted inspire then took it in for warranty.
What is the best kit for rooting then?
Never rooted an Android device so how long does it take?
I would want all the HTC drivers, camera apps etc intact as I have no need for ADW etc since I dig the Sense UI
I know HTC is gonna release an ota for bootloader unlock ..I'm from India and i'm thinking of buying the phone in US and when i go back to India how do i get the OTA update???
Or IS there other method to update the phone through PC??
Or is it that i cannot update at all ...
PS: If u want to delet this thread , atleast PM me the answer before doing so ..
OTA, if one is released, will come to you no matter where you are. Even if it doesn't get to you over the air by official means, copies will certainly surface here and you will be able to apply it manually. HOWEVER, there is no guarantee that HTC will release such an update. They never said anything officially about Sensation or EVO 3D, they only stated that they will not be locking bootloaders on future devices so for now it's all speculation.
sO we r still not sure to get bootloader unlocked??
the official upgrade is gonna arrive next month and i am going to upgrade my phone. i unlocked my phone using HTCdev unlock and got it rooted using superoneclick.Nothing else. But since the update would require a locked bootloader i had some doubts?
1. if i relock my bootloader using HTCdev then i will only loose root but not mess up my phone right?
2. and even if i do relock my phone, will i be eligible for the upgrade? or will it get stuck in a bootloop?
its only rooted no custon roms installed no nothing. i just hope i don't have to go through the RUU process for (to be eligible for OTA update) because its a bit daunting.
thanks for your replies and hope this hasnt been asked before
id also like to know how to avail official ics update.. and also how go back to original rom.. im on sense 3 custom rom..
I just received my TF300 and ASUS is asking me to update.
I'm currently running 2.6.39.4. Can you hack the lastest update?
I want to install CM. Can't wait.
And is worth hacking? Asus' UI replacement doesn't seem as terrible as my last device, a Droid 2.
(And since my phone broke and the replacement has a locked bootloader, I'm going to buy an S3 since MotorBlur is ****ing horrifying).

as this question has been asked over and over again.
Can you root without unlocked bootloader?
Yes. I rooted with an outdated root method, so i'm not sure which method you need to use with the software you currently have. The info is there, you just have to sort through it.

This method appears to work with any firmware. I rooted from 9.4.3.29 with no problems.
2.6.39.4 is the kernel ID, not the firmware
