Hey guys, im wondering if anyone has gotten any sort of Wifi calling to work on the shift? Im rooted with CM7, im bored so i need something to do to the phone lol
I recommend downloading/installing GrooVe IP whcih will allow you to use VoIP via 3/4G networks as well as WiFi. The only requirement with using GrooVe Ip is you have to have a GVC.
Wow thanks for mentioning grooveip worked great and was a snap to set up. Wish I had it when I had my G1 'cause I was getting free internet on it as long as i put 10 bucks every three months on my flexpay account. All well...
Anyone set up the SIP calling feature that in gingerbread? I don't know too much about voip =/

Once CM7 is updated to 2.3.4 I believe we should be able to make calls over data via gtalk.

Yes, once Gingerbread is updated to the .4 version, you'll be able to use Google Talk for VoIP. Until then, get GrooVe IP. As I mentioned in my earlier thread, all you need to do is sign up for a GVA to use with GrooVe IP.

VoIP in essence lilgrass71 takes an analog voice signal, converts it to binary code, sends it across the internet in data packets and converts it back to an analog voice signal on the receiver's end. Examples of VoIP are Vonage, Magic Jack and Google Voice.

I should have said Google Voice is VoIP when used via WiFi.

Nope. Texts sent via Voice app go over data but not calls. It still uses minutes.

Your right jesusice. As I originally suggested earlier, get GrooVe IP.
I see. So is there a way I can find the log in server and information to put into my dialer to make the sip calling functionality work with my google voice account?

What I had to do was set up a PBX server and enter my Google voice information there! I used C sip Simple not the stock sip client on Android, it did not work as well. Then I could make Wifi calls from my cell and receive them on my GV number. I am guessing that is a lot of work for what you want to do, as of early this year tho I think T mobile was the only carrier that would allow you to use your cell and place wifi calls without using sip. Not sure if this was any help but just thought I would let ya know an option! This was the only free option I found as Google does not charge for "minutes"

As mentioned elsewhere in this thread, GrooveIP is a very acceptable app for WiFi calling. HOWEVER, the kicker on this app for me (and perhaps it needs its own thread rather than semi hi-jacking this one) is the ability to make outgoing GV calls again from your primary headset if you've already integrated your Sprint ph # w/ GV. So, if you set up GV w/ an alternate ph # previously and have hesitated going w/ the Sprint-GV intergration because you didn't want to lose the call-out features, GrooveIP is your answer.
There IS an option w/i GrooveIP to accept incoming calls, but as of yet, every test inbound call I've made has been missed (edit - incoming works fine so long as data signal is strong). But outgoing works fine, voice quality is fine, and the comfort of again being able to use 2 phone numbers on the same headset is awesome. Highly recommended!

Can you elaborate on this (either on the forum or through PM), as I've been trying to set up a PBX unsuccessfully, and C sip Simple. I can't find the GV sip or domain info to complete this. Thanks!
Ok. I'm on a 3g zoom but only use wifi. I have Google voice and groove IP installed. I can make calls, but how can I receive calls? It asks to verify my number on Google voice but ends up using my cell number.setup help? Any insight is appriciated....and yes I searched first.

Too far down.....noooooooooo

What is a problem with number verification?
Hey guys I’ve been looking for a good VoIP caller for my phone that uses my sprint number for a while now, and I finally found one and I would like to share it with everyone
It’s called groove ip
click up ^^ here for the market link
It is a paid app, I found it on the market and I believe it wasn’t any more than 5 dollars.
set up:
I integrated Google voice on my account keeping my sprint number
I then downloaded Google voice on my phone and set it all up.
Then I downloaded groove ip and signed in.
you have options on when to use groove ip.
i have it auto start and set to ask when placing a call.
there is no battery drain when on standby.
obviously it uses some battery when placing or receiving calls
ive used it for a few days now, and i love it.
texts also work with the google voice app
Now you can use my phone even if you don’t have service as long as there is wifi !!
What about mms? I have Grooveip as well, but I'm hesitant to port my number completely to Voice. I use Voice for the voicemail and voip only... I use my Sprint number for everyday calling to other cells and sms/mms
Mms doesn't work on just WiFi, but is does on the cell network. I have no problems with it at all. Everything works the same for me. I also installed the voice app and grooveIP on my tablet and I can now use that as a spare phone at home. I still have to set it up online to ring the tablet tho

I have installed Groove IP and Google Talk on my LG Optimus V. I am trying to figure out how to get incoming calls to a wifi device with no cell phone number. This is in preparation to moving to a tablet with just wifi. I was trying to play around with google voice and groove IP to see how thye worked before ditching my OV cell plan and moving to a tablet.
I have configured google voice so that google chat is checked in the settings. Outgoing calls via Groove IP work as advertised. However, calling my Google Voice number dumps the caller into the google voice mail, requesting the google voice pin.
I have double-checked my GV account and no other number is set as a forwarding number. The only thing checked is google chat and the google voice account is the same as that logged into for Groove IP.
How do I configure Groove IP and GV to allow incoming calls over wifi with no forwarding cell phone number (which would be the scenario I would have if I had this working on a tablet)?
Thanks!
Don't have a clue what happened, but got up this morning and incoming calls to my GV number come into my phone via Groove IP as advertised.

I am not sure if there was an forum about how google voice is no longer letting 3rd part apps work. I loved using my groove ip when I didn't have service at certain places I would go. Any suggestions? Groove Ip says port # to ring.to. Any one know how to port google voice to ring.to?
Thanks

I was wondering the same thing but it seems like it still works for me.
Mine obviously doesn't connect when I try to call a number. I'm wondering if you switch to ring.to, can you still use your GV credits to do international calls?
When I saw this coming, I didn't update GV IP. I'm still on 1.4.8. I can still make calls through GV IP as of this writing. I wrote GV IP's dev and he said that, while GV IP can no longer use the API, Google has not yet removed the service. This is why it still works.
Who knows how long it will take Google to actually remove the service, so for now, I'll stick with 1.4.8.
