Can this be done without losing all my contacts?
I want all the existing links to be reset/broken and allow HTC Sense to start again. Once I've rejected suggested links, Sence will never offer them again. I want to clear that. Should simply clearing the contacts data in the phone achieve this (and be 'safe')? Or will that just restore all the links/meta information too when the contacts come back? Where is all the meta data held about the links or rejected suggestions?

You're correct in thinking that removing all contact data from the phone will remove the links...only as you re-add the various account types will new links be suggested (that you're then able to dismiss).
I'd recommend saving you main contacts in Google Contacts. So that you store them off the device/SIM and in the cloud which ensures after any reset the contact data can easily be restored just by linking to your google acocunt.

I tried to search for this but really didn't know what to even search for.
I've hard reset my phone twice after adding and deleting lots of apps while trying to find my favs. Both times I've used the Sprite Backup that came with my phone (ATT Tilt) and both times I've had to set up a new Oulook account for my Gmail. This isn't really an issue, just a pain.
What is an issue is that it won't allow me to reuse the Account Name. Not to big a deal, I just don't like having to come up with a new name every time. Is there a way to delete the old names somewhere? Are they in the registry somewhere?
Sorry if this has been asked before, I've just never seen it in the 3 months I've been following this forum and had no luck finding it myself.

I'll be the first to tackle this, but need some clarification on it. You hard reset then do a restore using sprite? Or you hard reset and then restore only the apps? Any extra information would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, yeah, backup "My Documents, Email, and Personal Databases" with Sprite backup. Hard Reset, Restore from backup, then reinstall all apps. Both times it hasn't actually restored my email account so I've had to do it manually, but when I click "New E-Mail Account" and go through the steps, I get a warning screen that says "That name is already assigned to another account. Enter a unique name and try again". Is it possible it only half restores, putting some type of info file somewhere but not actually listing it under "Messaging" screen.
The last time it also didn't back up my contacts, had to get those through ActiveSync from Outlook on my PC. Needless to say, I don't think I'll rely on Sprite again.

By doing the backup and then restoring you are allowing some previous settings from your device to be redone. This is usually good in the big picture of things, but when it comes to email, by restoring even a little bit, it will recognize that account. I never back up my email, unless I do it via outlook on a daily basis and such. By doing that I can restore it to outlook if it crashes or if I need something from the past that I had deleted. I wish I could give you some good news and say it shouldn't happen, but it does. Try only backing up everything but your email accounts. Also what device are you using. Some have quirks that others don't.
I thought that might be it. Too bad I just did it and don't feel like reinstalling and getting my settings the way I like em. Its the ATT Tilt, don't know if that really matters.

Just remember it when you go to do it next time.
I was wondering about the device, because older PPC/Phones had different issues with backup and restore. It seems a lot better now in our techno world we live in.
My friend gets a problem where when he tries to make a new contact it says "can not create a new contact without a valid account" he said that he tried to delete a lot of contacts by clearing data in contact storage, could that be the problem? If so how can I fix this. TIA
If he just went in a modified the contact data file he may very well have deleted some required data. Dont suppose he made a backup before making those changes? He may want to try to tell it not to sync his Google Contacts, and then waiting a few minutes re-enableing sync. That may allow the phone to recreate the file/insert the required information. If that doesnt work, you may need to completly remove and readd the google account, and past that a full Master Reset may be required.
I dont know what i'm doing wrong but hoping someone can tell me. Whenever i save a contact I save it as a google contact. I store the number but if i flash a new rom I lose that contact I saved. I tried going into settings>accounts&sync and syncing all the accounts to see if it saved it but when I go on my pc and check my google contacts it doesnt appear. What am I doing wrong? Ive lost many numbers I needed....

I have the same problem and have solved it by backing up my contacts on both my phone and my google account and then restoring them after booting the new ROM. I also use the backup with the contact program and I use GO launcher as my "menu manager". I use the GO Backup tool as a third level of backup. Any other method from anyone else would be useful as it is bit of a messy solution. BUT it does stop me losing contacts. I have also used the Microsoft Outlook tool as yet another backup when I sync. Can't have too many backups when the gremlins are out get your contact list.
Anyone?
I've been looking around for this, and have used the search tool. Unfortunately i havent found an adequate answer, so many someone can help me. To begin this post, i am using a phone i purchased off a friend. He has contacts in the phone that i also use, and are not backed up anywhere. I have many contacts, and instead of only selecting a few that i use, i'd rather have them all backed up. The problem is, under my Phonebook (Using an HTC Droid DNA) i have contacts from many locations. Twitter, SIM, Outlook, Hotmail, Google, Phone, Facebook, and another Hotmail. 2600 exactly. I'd like to have them all saved under one location. If i cannot migrate them, thats fine. WIth using a new ROM, all the contacts fail to reload.
So what i am looking for is a few things, and possibly a way to migrate them all. When using multiple apps, only about 700 backup. I do not know which contacts are backed up, and that is my problem. When using a new ROM, i seem to lose the Phone contacts, because with all the other accounts, i can log back in and have them restore.
Is there an app that lets me choose individual contacts to back up as well as selecting them all?

If you guys need other information, i am glad to give it. Thanks.
The problem is that those contacts from other services are not technically saved onto your phone, which is why they are showing up from different locations. You can always use a Cellebrite machine to backup all the contacts on your phone. This is the same device used by cell phone stores to transfer contacts to new devices. Another alternative is that you can try syncing your contacts with Google, which should store all of your phone's contacts onto your google account, eliminating the need to backup your contacts.
Hi,
I am looking for a simple way to manage the contacts on my Lineage 15 (Oreo) phone. Adding contacts is easy enough, but when I want to delete something, the mess starts. Trying to delete via the stock contacts app gets me messages of read-only entries and hide-only options. This sucks. I've read about people having to log in somewhere online to try and take control again of their run-away contact data. Seriously? I don't even have a gmail account, and my phone doesn't run any Google apps either. Still, it seems like I am not allowed to treat local data in a local manner.
I guess what I'm looking for is a way to delete a single contact in a single step. I don't want to have to delete three or four times, regular contacts, Whatsapp, Telegram etc. - if I entered it in one step, I want to delete it in one step. Isn't there an app for this? Or alternatively, is there an alternative contact app that I can use instead of the stock contact app and that will give me actual control over MY contacts on MY phone?
Thanks!
