Friend cannot make new contacts - Droid 2 Global General

My friend gets a problem where when he tries to make a new contact it says "can not create a new contact without a valid account" he said that he tried to delete a lot of contacts by clearing data in contact storage, could that be the problem? If so how can I fix this. TIA

If he just went in a modified the contact data file he may very well have deleted some required data. Dont suppose he made a backup before making those changes? He may want to try to tell it not to sync his Google Contacts, and then waiting a few minutes re-enableing sync. That may allow the phone to recreate the file/insert the required information. If that doesnt work, you may need to completly remove and readd the google account, and past that a full Master Reset may be required.

Question on Phone vs online contacts

Could anyone please clarify when I synchronize with my google account which one of these two things happen?
A. The details of my contacts on the phone are written on the server and old entries which I deleted on the phone are deleted from the server
B. The details of the contacts from the server are written on the phone and if I deleted something from the phone and it is still present on the server, it will be written on the phone again.
I am finding myself that sometimes one or the other happens.
Is there a way to fix the direction of the syncronization? e.g. always phone to server or vice versa.
Thanks a lot
i think the synchronisation between the server and your device is based on which has the newest contact information. also sometimes a server does a backup for a certain time if you delete a contact just in case if you want to have this one again.
It's a good question. I would hope, as mentioned above, that it would take the most recent change as the one to store.

[Q] Apps not working after factory reset

I had to Factory Reset my Infuse. Now, none of my apps like Gmail, G+, Youtube, Facebook, Gtalk are working. I am unable to add an account .
It simply says "Cant establish a reliable data connection to the server "...
But the funny thing is through the (phone's) browser I am able to access my gmail/Google. But through the available apps I am not able to login/access.
Please Help!!!
just try signing into the YouTube app with the account (youtube registered gmail account)you want to sync and it will automatically add it to the list of your accounts. Make sure you sign in to the YouTube app, rather than the website
tnx for the reply though... its not working even that way..
Perhaps attempt to re-factory-reset the phone? Just a suggestion...
again a reset I have installed so many apps now (I have a dump of .apk's)...
I dont think thats a right solution.. can some one tell me how to add a primary account... as it dont have one after reset....
Try doing a hard reset(Powering up + Key Combo in most cases) instead of resetting from within the phone. What kind of phone is it? Hard reset will clear cache, data folder and dalvik cache. Let me know how it goes

[Q] Possible to reset Sense looking for contacts to link?

Can this be done without losing all my contacts?
I want all the existing links to be reset/broken and allow HTC Sense to start again. Once I've rejected suggested links, Sence will never offer them again. I want to clear that. Should simply clearing the contacts data in the phone achieve this (and be 'safe')? Or will that just restore all the links/meta information too when the contacts come back? Where is all the meta data held about the links or rejected suggestions?

You're correct in thinking that removing all contact data from the phone will remove the links...only as you re-add the various account types will new links be suggested (that you're then able to dismiss).
I'd recommend saving you main contacts in Google Contacts. So that you store them off the device/SIM and in the cloud which ensures after any reset the contact data can easily be restored just by linking to your google acocunt.

I have the same problem and have solved it by backing up my contacts on both my phone and my google account and then restoring them after booting the new ROM. I also use the backup with the contact program and I use GO launcher as my "menu manager". I use the GO Backup tool as a third level of backup. Any other method from anyone else would be useful as it is bit of a messy solution. BUT it does stop me losing contacts. I have also used the Microsoft Outlook tool as yet another backup when I sync. Can't have too many backups when the gremlins are out get your contact list.
Anyone?

Looking for better contact management/deletion - suggestions?

Hi,
I am looking for a simple way to manage the contacts on my Lineage 15 (Oreo) phone. Adding contacts is easy enough, but when I want to delete something, the mess starts. Trying to delete via the stock contacts app gets me messages of read-only entries and hide-only options. This sucks. I've read about people having to log in somewhere online to try and take control again of their run-away contact data. Seriously? I don't even have a gmail account, and my phone doesn't run any Google apps either. Still, it seems like I am not allowed to treat local data in a local manner.
I guess what I'm looking for is a way to delete a single contact in a single step. I don't want to have to delete three or four times, regular contacts, Whatsapp, Telegram etc. - if I entered it in one step, I want to delete it in one step. Isn't there an app for this? Or alternatively, is there an alternative contact app that I can use instead of the stock contact app and that will give me actual control over MY contacts on MY phone?
Thanks!
