screen on notification - HTC Sensation

I don't know if this is my phone's fault. I just sent me sensation to htc for a screen replacement; however, when I receive the phone back, I realize there was problem(?) and I am not sure if that is a software problem or hardware problem. Apparently, when I get a new sms, I will only hear the sound and notification light but the screen won't turn on. Is this normal? I am under the default setting. Thanks for your help!

I don't ever recall my phone's screen turning on when I receive anything other than a phone call (on any Android phone). Were you using a 3rd part app by chance?

Yeah the screen does not turn on, if it's in sleep, when you receive a text message or any kind of notification.
The only way the phone screen turns on while it's in sleep is if you receive a phone call.
Hope this helps!

Ok! Maybe I confused my htc inspire with the sensation since I haven't used it for 2 weeks. I actually prefer that so that it will save battery.

No screen lighting up is normal download sms pop up etc in the market.

Vibrate Feedback Failure

I'm curious to see if anyone is having problems with their Thunderbolt vibrating while typing, moving widgets, incoming calls or lowering their volume to vibrate.
While typing, moving widgets, using the soft keys at the bottom of the phone or lowering my volume to vibrate I notice that randomly my vibration will cease to work. And by not work I mean absolutely no vibration, even when I receive a call. Then out of no where it will start to work again, of course randomly as well.
I know it's definitely not a rom issue nor kernel as it has happened to me on multiple roms, even my current unrooted stock setup. Do you guys think its a defect with the phone? I hope not because I'm not to keen on getting a "like new refurb" after only having my Tbolt for just about 30 days...
I'm noticing the same thing. I also experience random ringtone and volume changes. Earlier today could barely hear text notification even with volume all the way up. Working fine now. Mine is stock.

If it continues to do that after a factory reset, then most likely you have a hardware problem. Assuming you two are both stock.
I spoke to tech support and a rep at the store (>.< I know) and they agreed to replace my phone. Rooted and unrooted I had the problem so odds are pretty good that it is a hardware issue.
@saraheba I'd unroot and return to stock and see if the problem persists. If so then you may be in the same boat of having a defective phone.
Make sure you don't have automatic power management enabled. It will disable vibration when you get a low battery.

Checked and unfortunately wasn't the cause. Thanks for the advice.
I spoke too soon anyway lol. Now my text notification has changed itself to vibrate only even with all volumes maxed. Hoping itll clear up on its own.

Help! Weird problem with speaker phone and headphones!

All of a sudden, out of the blue, whenever I make or receive a call, it is automatically in speakerphone mode and I have to turn it off. And when I first turn on the phone, headphones will work but after the first use, when I plug them in again the headphone icon will appear in the menu bar up top but sound will only come out of the speaker on the phone until I turn off the phone and turn it on again. Anybody know what's going on here??

I just had this problem today also. Also using go sms. Fail to see how that would have any affect on it though.
Yes! I did update GOSMS! How can I revert??

Same thing happened to me. Looks like GOsms has to GO.
Interesting. I started having the same issue with my bluetooth headphones and all audio. Going to have to try uninstalling that.

Freezing touch screen on incoming call

Hi all,
I have got the problem on my phone that when I'm getting an incoming call touch screen doesn't react at all. This is intermittent behavior. It happens very often, but not every time. I have to switch the screen off, turn it back on and then I can swipe it to answer the call. It never happens on any other occasion - just on incoming call.
Is there something in the setttings causing it? I did have that problem on stock ROM and it still happens on my current ROM/kernel configuration.
Any ideas? I have not seen the same issue on the forum.

Yes, I know, sounds not related, but trust me, it is.
Yes, I have seen that thread before but actually I never had any problems with unresponsive screen other than at incoming call. Anyway, I will give it a go and see if it fixes that.
That's exactly why I said to do it even if it sounds unrelated. It is related, trust me.

I'm having the same problem. However, I rooted my phone only to realize I stopped something I shouldn't have, and couldn't get back to Titanium Backup to make a backup. I can still receive texts, calls, and updates, as well as get into my buttons that slide down from the top of the screen. (Wifi, genius, bluetooth, etc) I'm going to try and keep doing research as to how to load roms with just USB support, but for now I think you and I might have to suffer with our blank homescreens. =p
Since my phone won't boot up unless I have a USB cable plugged in, I guess that means that at least my battery won't die!

Bad Proximity Sensor?

Is anyone else having an issues when on a call to someone you take it away from your ear and look at your phone and the screen doesn't come back on. I have to hit the power button to make the screen wake up. I'm all stock (4.4.2) with unlocked bootloader. I m trying to see if this is a hardware problem where I need to RMA or software problem.
Mine works perfectly well. Are you sure you don't have anything that might be affecting the proximity sensor, like smudges or a screen protector?

No, I don't have any screen protector not any smudges. I saw similar issues on other phones and someone said to clear data and cache on the phone app so I don't know if that will work or not.

What time out do you have your screen set to? Sounds like it's simply locking after the designated time.
I've noticed the screen turning on and off occasionally when talking. Almost like the sensor isn't sure if I'm holding it to my head or not but then I do hold it away from my face.
I have the same issue...
I can't hang a call because the screen simply don't turn on when I remove my phone from the ear.
In add at this issue, seems like the proximity sensor turn off the backlight screen only.
When I finish a call, I found the clock screen opened, in my case the settings screen of advanced clock widget...
It's really annoying...

Do you guys have a screen protector applied by any chance? Everyone had this issue with the nexus 4 because the sensor is really sensitive and picks the protector up, not letting it turn the screen on. Try removing a section of the protector where the sensor sits, this will fix your issue.
Surprisingly, I don't have this problem
Team Nexus 5 sucks. Underpowered battery for a 5inch 1080p screen that is non-removable. Weak generic antenna that drops signal. Worst speaker of any device on the market. Cheap plastic build.

I have it on 15 seconds. Shouldn't that feature be bypassed when a call is in progress so that the proximity sensor is usable. This is the first phone that I've had that has done this to me. On all others the proximity sensor stays live even after the predetermined sleep time.
After 15 seconds you're screen is simply turning off as you have set. Mine does so after 1 minute, which is my screen time out setting.

During a call shouldn't the screen timeout be bypassed then go back to the default setting once the call has ended? That makes much more sense to me.

This seems to be the built in functionality of the phone and not a bug. I can't really say if one way is better then the other but I just turn the screen off during calls now.
This is the bug...
really annoying
same problem
