I have an HTC Sensation that I really want to turn S=Off and perma-root real bad but I have not found any method using Mac OS (Snow Leopard) ???? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have fastboot installed on my Mac and have rooted several Nexus S models but this is my first time around with the HTC Sensation.
Your going to have to install either Linux or Windows on the Mac with boot camp, alpharevx doesn't work with Mac and its a completely different can of beans than Nexus s. Nexus s has an unlockable bootloader from factory, sensation doesn't, thus sensation NEEDS alpharevx to unlock the boot loader, s-off, and perma-root

Go to a library or find a person with a PC... it shouldn't be that hard, everyone in the world but you has one...
And this is not the proper place to post this Dawg. Shoulda gone in Q & A, it kinda clutters up the DEV forum if we post threads liek this that don't belong here.
Bootcamp. Or borrow a friend's notebook for like 5-10mins. You won't require it after revolutionary.

Thanks for your help, I apologize for putting the tread in the wrong forum.
We need to stop answering questions on the development forums, make them be posted in q&a for answer
PC and your set. It really easy to do.

I am completely new, I have an s-off ds, I want to turn s-on back on so I can update my phone to 2.3.5 any ideas how to, sorry if I seem dumb
I'm not sure why you would want to get S-ON just to have an official upgrade to 2.3.5 when custom ROMs already have 2.3.7, but I believe what you're looking for is in this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1187231
Any other questions you might have can be answered by searching through the Desire S Android Development Forums
You can always browse through this Index for anything else worth mentioning. Hope this helps.
I would agree with previous post. Seen all the problems with official update? Much better off sticking with s-off and one of proxusers sense 3.0 ports. Or bindroid. Or coredroid. Any problems will be patched much faster than HTC.

I dont understand a word of what any of you said. I want it back to when I bought it. I dont understand any of this.
The fact is, there isn't a simple "one click and you're done" way to do this. So if you really want to do this, you're going to have to learn how to. The thread i linked is a good start, and the index thread in the development forum is also a great place to find guides on doing just about anything you might need. If all else fails, you could try and find someone in your area who's willing to do this for you, but I wouldn't depend on it.
Thanks for all the help. I took it back to store claiming software fault. They replaced my phone.

Do I absolutely have to have the SDK and adb to s-off my phone? I know it sounds dumb, but the only reason I ask is cause I came from the Samsung vibrant forums and I rooted and flashed my vibrant without the need of ANY computer software. All from my phone. I really want to s off my phone, but the instructions are kinda flaky. Good, but flaky. Thank you.

Hi,
The instructions in the s-off guide in my signature are easy to follow.
Using ADB and SDK are really not difficult.
And installing them will help later on when you want to change your radio.
Yes they are needed.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
No, you don't need them.
You can S-OFF your phone using the revolutionary hack. You'll still need a PC with the HTC Sync software installed (ie, the drivers for the phone).
Have a look on http://revolutionary.io/ for tools and instructions.
That said, you might want to look into getting the SDK and ADB later on, if you plan to continue learning about what you can do with this device.
Hello everyone! I'm completely new to the HTC. I came from the samsung galaxy s 4g. I have a few questions I hope everyone can help answer. Is this the right forum for the HTC Sensation from T-mobile? Can someone point to the direction on how I can get root access? What is the most popular ROM custom right now? Which custom ROM is best for battery life?

From here: http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile...on-htc-android-phones-with-unrevoked-forever/
In a nutshell, S-OFF means that the NAND portion of the device is unlocked and can be written to. The default setting for HTC’s devices is S-ON, which means that neither can you access certain areas of the system nor can you guarantee a permanent root. Furthermore, signature check for firmware images is also ensured by the S-ON flag.

The best advice you can get is probably this: wait a little longer for OFFICIAL ICS which will be pushed via the update. Since it will be official, and via the update, it will be delivered ready to go straight from HTC.
Beware: if you start delving into these forums just to get ICS, you are in for a ride of your life. If you are not into this kind of "fun", i would recommend just waiting for official, which is just hours/days away.

Not at all. It's pretty easy:
S-Off/Root
Flash new Firmware
Flash New Rom
Each step has detailed guides and can be accomplished in 20 to 25 minutes each - the firmware only taking 3 minutes. Just make sure you follow directions, carefully. As in, really, very carefully. If you're unsure of something, don't do it.
That's reach, guys......
So many replies and none specific.... Why to bother answering at all???
To get ICS OTA you need to be stock. S-off does not matter, root also.
Has to have a stock recovery and 1.50.401.1 for original or 1.73.401.4 for XE.
Although, if you want to install custom ICS, you have to read Dev section for specific requirements of the ROM of your choice....I read a lot good reviews for almost all of the ICS ROMS.
And here is something to keep in mind:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23427200&postcount=1
Otherwise EddyOS will be really upset...LOL
Have to find a RUU for your particular phone and flush it to bring everything back to original condition (will be un-rooted, but S-off will remain).
Good luck!!!
Keep in mind eddy won't help you if you get stuck he will tell you search or use google lol
That what he did fix my self and posted how here is link

You really are bitter about it all aren't you? You do realise not everyone on here knows me don't you? I'll gladly help when needed but using Google does save a lot of hassle and should be encouraged.
To the OP: I'm on my phone so can't link to my thread (which is written in proper English) but it lays out the steps needed to get ICS. But it is for those on the EU handsets just so you know

OK FIRST OFF LET ME MAKE SOMETHING CLEAR...
I like gadgets but I'm in no way interested in plugging cables in my phone and doing the technical stuff. Don't tell me to read or learn from the forum's. I have no interest in it. I just asked a simple question...
Also don't sent me private messages either professing what a guy like you could do for me for me, have some respect. I won't name and shame you as unlike half you horrid little no-lifers, I have what's known as class.
Not sure you're doing anything wrong. As far as I can tell, only Vodafone sensations in the UK have had an OTA update. The rest of us who still have stock ROMs are not-so-patiently waiting.

Bottom line, you can't update to ICS unless someone follows some steps on the forum to either A: Return the RUU to stock or B: Flashes an ICS Rom for you.
He sounds like a smart guy, too bad it didn't workout.
You may have someone in a circle of friends that's familiar with rooting etc. Hit them up to do the labor.

I have a question... my phone is stock the RUU as you've called it is from HTC. I downloaded an app "CID Getter" from Play/Market and it tells me my ROM is 1.45.401.2 which if I'm correct is official. My CID is orang001 then as i scroll down it says main CID HTC_001 so why has this not updated to 1.50.401.1 for example?

Hey I just picked up the HTC One X today from Rogers and I'm in love <3. However, I must first make it sexy (Root, unlock bootloader etc.) and in order to do this I need some knowledge of something i'm sure everyone knows. Basically in the forums I saw some programs that offered a root via a tool or an unlocked bootloader, but its listed under a title containing the numbers 1.85, is that referring to the firmware? If so how can i check the firmware on my phone I cant find any number like that :S Thank you and i'm sure this is one hell of a noob question. Thanks for the help in advance ^_^
Settings, about, software information, more, build number.
The build number is the firmware I believe.

Thanks for your help, my build number is 1.73.631. 1 CL54373 release-keys.
Can I still use these tools to root my phone and unlock the boot loader?
Yep, just read some of the stickies guides.
