Hi there everybody,
I'm probably in the wrong section of the forum, and my questions are nubby I know, but I get confused.
My Desire S is S-ON, and I would like to get is S-OFF. Is this possible, because it is needed to be able to root the phone right?
And an offtopic question, what is a flash-able app, and what is the difference with a normal custom .apk which can be installed from the sd card.
Thanks in advance

so far, no one ever mention about developing one. so, you might need to wait. if you can't wait, just get someone with XTC clip to do it for ya...
Can anyone tell me what S-OFF means? Thank you!

It seems that HTC reverse its decision to block everything on the latest versions, after the petition that circulated on the net, requesting the release.

Actually, no.
From the same article:
"In short: custom ROMs, kernels, and recoveries (like ClockworkMod) may never come to the EVO 3D, barring some kind of epic HTC screw-up."
Hey,
I have just used the HTC Bootloader Unlock process on my HTC Sensation (not 4G). Of course, after having gone through the pain, I discover that it is of no use when changing a ROM.
Please, can I get a definitive answer as every website and post I have read is either not for my phone or suggests that now I have gone the official unlock I am basically &$^%@*!!
I need to know if I can change my ROM and how to go about it now that I have done the official HTC Bootloader unlock process...PLEASE!
Thanks guys.
ps. I am a NOOB!!
Your HTC Sensation is not 4G? As I know, HTC Sensation are having 4GB internal storage, but you can only access 1GB of them.
You can find this information frpm Wikipedia.

Very good point well made!
I meant it is not the US version of HTC Sensation. Its the European version 3G. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
He was talking about 4G version, not about ROM size ; )
To the OP:
Follow the n00b guide in the Dev forum - it's all in there

Definitive answer : YES YOU CAN change ROM
NO you are NOT (*&*^)*&^ due to official unlock (unless you have some hardware issue, your warranty is NULL and VOID)
How to install another ROM...follow this thread to the letter
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
I didn't quite understand his question neither. Official bootloader unlock and its no use cause you can't switch roms? Root your phone using either an insecure boot.img or the temp roots, install rom manager, flash recovery, and download a rom, wipe data, cache, dalvik, system and then install .zip from sdcard, and then reboot!
It can't get easier than that. Anymore questions, read the noob post or post here, I'll help.

G'day champ,
Welcome back, begin with the guides provided below.
1. S-off, unlock, recovery, root & SuperCID
[Guide] to Installing S-off, Unlocking, ClockWork, Root, SuperCID & S-on
2. Install the latest firmware, 3.32 is needed for the latest base.
[Firmware][Mar 30]User-Friendly Firmware 1.17/3.12/3.24,3.30 & 3.32 Unlocked
3. Flash a ROM, Android Revolution HD(ARHD) is the most popular(for good reason)
[ROM] Android Revolution HD 6.5.5 | ICS | High Quality & Performance | 3.32.401.105
After all that, feel free to learn what you will, there's plenty to learn, it just requires reading, and problems, there's guides all over the Sensation forums, generally within the first couple of pages.
Thank you for all that. What is the firmware step for??

For what reasons exactly
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA
You can root without doing supercid. Supercid is optional.
It allows you more flexibility though. Useful if you want to flash other areas/carriers rom. Personally I prefer to keep original cid.
Recently I couldn't receive ota update to ICS because I was supercid, then reverted to the original one and suddenly I received the Ota update notice.
It's up to you whether supercid or not and it's not a real concern because you can revert at anytime.
What is your current hboot version? Power off, pull battery, press & hold vol down and power to enter bootloader and read it off.
You have to check your hboot is supported by revolutionary- the tool to give you s-off.
sent from HTC Pyramid using Tapatalk
And the OTA thing... Say i update my phone..will i lose root n such..
Thanks.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA
Yes you will lose everything and bootloader will become 1.27 (which is unsupported by revolutionary) Unless you have S-OFF before the update that is.
As for SuperCID, Its optional but HIGHLY recommended, As said before, it allows you to flash any firmware from any region....
If you dont have it, You MUST make sure it matches your CID or it wont boot... It can also be tricky to find one for your region (depending where you are)
It only takes a second, And its permanent and reversible
When i switch from rom to rom... Do i superwipe then flash rom everytime??
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA
You can do, but its not necessary, Have a look at the installation guide for the ROM your going to flash.... Usually if you are updating the same ROM wipe isnt needed..
If you are going to a different ROM altogether, A wipe is a MUST

The Sensation forums have some awesome people in it. If you have any troubles or questions feel free to send me a PM.
Thanks! I noticed this forum is buzzing with excitement, compared to the myTouch 3G Slide forums.
Which version of HTC Sense should I go with after I S-OFF? I like Sense 4.0, which my brother has on his One S, but Sense 3.6 has also caught my eye.
Sense 4 isnt perfectly functional but unless you use BT alot it doesn't matter.I'd go for S4 personally (Although im on MIUI at the minute as the battery life is far better than any sense variant)
I don't actually have a Bluetooth. I mostly like eye candy. I like aosp, I'm a man of bells and whistles. I like to be able to show my friends the advanced graphics and such.

Thanks! Should I unlock the bootloader or go with S-OFF? I used to have S-OFF on my myTouch 3G Slide, before I made the stupid mistake of updating to the official FroYo, which destroyed my root and S-OFF. Also, will Darktremor work on this device?

When you unlock bootloader you obtain s-off if im not wrong and the best way to do it is whit revolutionary method or htcdev works aswell but if you send your device backin whit htcdev method they will know you have hacked ur phone :/

Most definitely S-off, with S-off you have full read write permissions for all partitions. With HT Dev unlock you only have read write permissions for your System, Boot, and Recovery partitions. Plus you have to flash the boot.img for each ROM you want to use manually via fastboot command or use Smartflash in 4EXT.
Sorry but I do not know about Darktremor.
i need to know if anyone in the los angeles area that can put the s-on feature on my phone my friend did a root and i unrooted it and put back the stock rom but i dont know how to turn s-on in order to get updates on my phone again please helpppppp
You better tell us how he got s-off. I cant imagine he is actually.

Did you or your friend achieve full S-OFF? If so, how? It's kind of a big deal. I personally don't think you mean Security off to security on on the bootloader; maybe you mean stock recovery?

I think he meant "unlocked" bootloader, not S-OFF.
The only thing he wanted was to reclock it.
Thread should be closed as he did what he whanted to do by himself.
He's clearly stated it though twice that it was s off and now s on u can't get mixed up lol either were getting trolled or he doesn't know the benefits of s off lool

If you don't exactly know what you do, that's not so hard to mix up...
The worst thing is that WE keep on discussing about something we all know as a mistake.

Some phones (very few) are shipped s off. If it is so, then just keep it that way and update through xda. We get all the new stuff anyway

Just think it's a noob looking for attention. If he did want S-ON, he would've replied. I think he pretty damn well knows what S-OFF is, just wanted some attention for a few days.
He did replied to the first responce to his question and then the semi flames started for him not knowing any better. Noob for sure. He will know the difference now or and hopefully search before posting next time. Hopefully by then he knows the true status of his phone that's just something we have to deal with during this stage of a new phone. Once development picks up and there are more threads and more people posting useful information for the noobs to learn from it will make things a lot better.
