Hey I just picked up the HTC One X today from Rogers and I'm in love <3. However, I must first make it sexy (Root, unlock bootloader etc.) and in order to do this I need some knowledge of something i'm sure everyone knows. Basically in the forums I saw some programs that offered a root via a tool or an unlocked bootloader, but its listed under a title containing the numbers 1.85, is that referring to the firmware? If so how can i check the firmware on my phone I cant find any number like that :S Thank you and i'm sure this is one hell of a noob question. Thanks for the help in advance ^_^
Settings, about, software information, more, build number.
The build number is the firmware I believe.

Thanks for your help, my build number is 1.73.631. 1 CL54373 release-keys.
Can I still use these tools to root my phone and unlock the boot loader?
Yep, just read some of the stickies guides.

I have the Rogers htc one x as well. Let me know what you did to attain root, recovery and bootloader unlocked when you're done. =)
Thank you I shall attempt to load a custom rom on my phone, ill take it as a self birthday gift. Thanks for the help

Sure ill let you know if I decide to do it, I'm still kind of scared I had the HTC amaze and panache which I rooted and s-off but I had an sd card slot which saved me countless times with this phone there is none and it seems really scary.

Well I got up today proud of myself for having made the decision to go ahead and root my AT&T HOX.
I have a 32 gig 10 inch Toshiba Thrive that is rooted running ICS. Then I discover there are several HOX models....and several firmwares. With sweaty palms I swiped one finger down and shaking almost too much to hit ABOUT scrolled on to the bitter truth of 2.20.502.7...
This phone cannot be rooted.
Now I must try to gather myself and use the technique I am lacking the most in.... Patience.
So Fredfly, I'm sure someone here can tell you better than I but as far as I can judge if your bro's firmware is like or higher than mine just take a number and have a seat.
JP
I'm in the same boat Jonathan... just got mine this week and it's 2.2. Does anyone know if there is anyone working on rooting 2.2?

People are working on it but that doesn't mean it will ever be cracked. We can only hope.

Gingerbrake worked on an LG optimus v running 2.2.1 and 2.2.2

What version of the HOX do you have? The AT&T version? If the firmware is below 2.20, then you have a plethora of methods you can use if you simply look in the dev section. If you're so inclined, you can use the guide that I wrote for the Telus version in my signature. The attached software should work for the AT&T as well as the Telus and Rogers versions as well.
If you got your one X from Rogers then you're fine. First go to htcdev.com to unlock the bootloader. Then flash TWRP recovery (evita version) . Then put the zip file for a custom rom into the sdcard, boot into TWRP recovery, and install it. Then do a factory reset from TWRP and reboot. As a first rom to try, I recommend CleanROM or VIPER XL.
Hey guys thanks for the advice. I looked at HTC dev and its exactly the same as the one s. I checked my brother's firmware this weekend and its 1.8... I will attempt to root and unlock this weekend. Also thanks for the Rom recommendations. I will probably put viper on his phone as I am familiar with the venom team and know they do great work.

Its not firmware 2.20 and above. Its only firmware 2.20 that is unrootable (at this time). Its all about AT&T. Every other carrier is allowing the bootloader to be unlocked via HTCDev.com.
There have been a few version numbers higher than 2.20 (2.23, 2.29, 2.33). AFAIK, they can all be bootloader unlocked.
When I had the HTC Evo 4g LTE and there was updates we were able to download all the firmware bits except the Hboot. Is there anything like this for the HTC One X or do I just flash the rom. I was told in the forum for the Evo that to fully utilize the fixes they offered we would have to download the firmware bits first then flash the rom. thanx
Ok so is my question so stupid that no one wants to answer or does no one really know the answer... I found radio upgrades and stuff like that but not the actual firmware bits... I also found the ruu but then I have to go through the whole unlocking thing again...
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda app-developers app
It's not a stupid question. I'm curious about this too.
Sent from my HTC One XL
I did some more research but couldn't find anything... It would be nice to be able to flash the bits but I don't know how much of that is needed. I remember freezer used to do it for the htc evo 4G lte so maybe I can ask him how and try to do it myself... It's worth a try
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Never seen anything about firmware bits in the on htc one xl forums.
Bump.
I suppose you would have to upgrade the firmware by locking your bootloader, running a new ruu, then unlocking it. I wouldn't try it with anything later then 1.85 though.

Hi there,
I'm coming from the iPhone 4, and I got my 1st Android phone last summer, HTC One S
I got it from Fido (canada)
Since I dont have enough posts, I was told to ask dev-related questions here
I want to root my phone with the All in One toolkit, but I'm not sure if ti works with the Fido HTC One S
Thanks in advance
You should of been told to post questions in the q&a section since that means questions & answers.
And future reference never post an individual question the the dev section unless you are asking in an already established rom or dev thread.
As far as wanting to root, I can't help you there as I no longer see the point in rooting since ics

Well I was told General OR q&a
But yeah otherwise I would have posted it in the AIOTK thread if I could.
I agree with you that ICS is good enough
Thanks

I have a Fido One S and I rooted/unlocked my phone using the toolkit, you should be good to go.
Don't let the toolkit do everything for you, otherwise when something goes wrong you won't have a single clue. Get fastboot running and learn how to send commands and unlock the bootloader through fastboot.

I agree with usaff22. Doing the modifications manually is better.
It's OK to root your One S. The rooting process has nothing to do with the carrier. For example, my One S was locked to 3 UK and I rooted without problems. Good luck!

Yeah I really suck when it comes anything technical; but I won't let that get in my way; I will do some research on manual modifications

Hey what's up guys this is my first time posting in thus forum.. I'm not new to HTC devices, not new to flashing ROMs and what not.. I have a cousin that recently got dooped on a crappy trade, and now she's using an Inspire 4g. I've searched you guys threads, its hard to tell what's what, but I have a phone that's having a random reboot about every 7 minutes or so. So of course I factory reset from boot loader, it is s-on with 2.00.0030 hboot. Its running android 2.3.5 with software 3.20.502.52 71ord.
Can anyone point me to the most recently updated RUU for this software, or point me to a recently updated root method? I see you guys have s-off.. That would be sick also lol.. Any help is MUCH appreciated.

That Is the latest att update. To root that device, there's only one tool: The advanced ace hack kit..find it here:
Ñhttp://tau.shadowchild.nl
K I had already downloaded that.. I've read a whole bunch on that hack and I don't want to be stranded with a bricked device that isn't mine. Just looking to root, unlock, install recovery and flash some aosp goodness.. I'm no stranger to fastboot
Or would you have any ideas for my random reboots? I'm noticing a pattern of it rebooting when it sleeps.. Maybe 2 minutes after its locked

Have You flashed the insecure boot imege from the site first? If You did, Check that in the hack kit folder You have the zergrush file in the tools>bin folder. If it Is not there, then disable the anti virus And re download the hack kit agAin
Thank for reply but I'm confused.. how am I able to flash something with bootloader locked and no root? I don't remember seeing that in the effin manual lol. I'll do some more research and give it another go. I read it's more successful with abuntu so ill try it when I boot it up

That is not in the manual but in the Hack Kit site....unlock the bootloader, flash the insecure boot image, relock and then run the Hack kit..that is here:

I'll report back this afternoon, but thank you for your time and patience.. I bad thing is if we need team viewer you'll have to teach me that also haha.. my wife won't let me use her laptop with phone stuff, so I'm using an old desktop with Windows XP professional lol
