Just got a thing from my mobile insurance effective October 4th 2011 will go from $4.99 to $6.99 a month... additionally Tier 2 deductibles ($125) will move to tier 3 ($199)............... but if you in-roll in their new "special offer" plan of $9.99 that normally goes for $15.99 I can save $5.99 .....whoopty doo ! bend over
I paid 100 bucks for Inspire but if anything happens I can get a used one for $125 .... oh wait now it will cost me $199 Yay ummm yeah
I'm better off taking 10 bucks a month and putting it on the side

Stuff like this is why I don't like AT&T. Fortunately I got my insurance through Radioshack instead of them though.

My Documentation on this subject said that the inspire was not a Tier two Item. So it did not get moved to the tier three. You sure you didn't miss that part? The infuse and newer were the moved tier ones.

I threw it out after cursing ATT a blue streak. But I could have sworn it lists the Items that are in the tier that is moving, (Which is why i remember the infuse being one of the ones). I was like! Yes Inspire not considered tier two, wait, what, i own an old and busted...... lol
Lol, no surprise AT&T wants to rape you for more money.
I just called them. Inspire is getting bumped to $6.99 per month but the deductible will remain at $125. I recorded the conversation so if they try to bs it will be awesome.

My last few phones were bought outside of ATT. They were purchased from Canada and Australia. Since HTC doesn't warranty outside of retailing country I bought my own warranty from CPS (consumer priority service) from Networkingrus.com. They are a dealer.
http://www.networkingrus.com/Products-WARRANTIES_ACCIDENTAL.html
Cost me under a $100 for a 2 year accidental plan (for a $750 phone). $100/24 months = $4.16 a month. My deductable is only $25. It is the money I have to send them for return shipping. I just call it my deductable. A phone under $500 is only $63 for 2 years. I have used the warranty 3 times now. Phone is usually returned 2 to 3 weeks from the day I send it in. And their repairs are top notch. Twice my phone was pretty bad but they managed to repair it. Haven't sent them a non repairable phone yet to see what they offer.

nice I'll have to check them out
Cost increase
I think this is another ploy to force and encourage people to go with the more expensive plans. Of course, I will be dropping the insurance all together - especially since I am about to be due for early upgrade which will make getting a new phone cheaper than replacing an older one. I noticed most of the phones with a $199 deductible are phones that are very prone to screen cracking (esp the Iphone but other forums reference the other phones as well) and/or are the more expensive phones to buy outright. AT&T probably lost too much money in insurance replacement costs.
I will check out the one site listed here for phone insurance. If I upgrade soon it might come in handy with the AT&T hijack of insurance costs.
I was considering enrolling, but not now! I didn't think 4.99 was a good deal, and they're going up . Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if there wasn't a deductible (or less expensive one) and you weren't getting a freakin' refurbished device . I've gotten a replacement once in the past (with a "dumb" phone) and it was noticeably used/refurbished. I thought, "never again." Well, definitely not now that this could happen.
What is it with the carriers increasingly gouging customers?? It's getting worse, and will continue to if the merger is approved. I'm all for better service, but the state of affairs will continue to become worse for consumers as carriers have less and less incentive to innovate pricing and packaging. If only we had two more T-Mobile-like carriers (in addition to T-Mobile hanging around). Things would be alright.
T-mobile is not hanging around because they are in the red. They have run in the red the last couple years. I guess cheap plans, low priced phones, and warranties have done them in. And compared to European carriers, US carries seem to be cheaper anyways.

Its called the Geek Squad Black Tie Protection Plan!
Its only $10 a month and provides unlimited replacements for your device if it is damaged due to dropping it, water, etc. Now thats one heck of a case and you can't even feel it when its on the phone!
But seriously, I usually put cases on my phones because I am worried about damage. But for $10 a month (the cost of 2 drinks at a coffee house) you can stop worrying about getting a case for your device and just use it as the companies intended: naked. This was an offer I just couldn't pass up.
Has anyone else gotten the protection plan from Best Buy?
On a side note, when I was picking my device up from Best Buy the sales person said "What, you want me to price match AT&T? OK!" I didn't even ask him but he just said that and did it for me anyway, saving me $30! Usually the people at Best Buy are annoying crabby stuck-up brats but this guy was very helpful and saved me some cash.

I have it, too, but there is a downside - at least there was with my iPhone 3GS when I had to use the protection plan. During the first 30 days of owning a phone they'll replace it in-store. After 30 days, at least for the iPhone, they gave me a crappy dumb-phone loaner, and it took almost a week to get a replacement in.
I still have it on my captivate, but hope I don't have to use it. Having a plain phone for a week after being used to something better is a hard transition.

Er, its not. I hate Best Buy with a passion. I never shop there unless its something like a cell phone where you can't find it for less anywhere else. I'm simply saying that their cell phone protection plan is better than any one I have ever seen. Unlimited replacements for $9 a month is a heck of a deal.
I could argue that 99% of the posts here about people drooling over their devices sound like advertisements. Maybe I just like the service offered?

it's $125 deductible. i got that insurance from ATT, and for 5 a month for 2 years and 125, it would be like paying the "discount" 200 for another brand new phone! which isn't too bad if i kill it within the first few months

True, and the BestBuy deal is not much better. $10 per month for 2 years is is $240. The only reason these insurance plans are worth it at all, is because you can't go buy a new one at the subsidized price again - not until about month 18. And at month 18 you can get anything you want for $200.
It is gambling - they are betting you won't break the phone, and you are betting you will. They win most of the time, or they wouldn't be offering this insurance.
SquareTrade covers smartphones for $6 per month with a $50 deductible if your claim is damage related. No deductible for other claims.
Me, I use Amex card to buy my phone. I get double the warranty and 90 days accident coverage. Oh, and cash back too. Good enough for me.

Lets see, a $20 case makes your phone larger, doesn't give it 100% protection against dropping it, or damaging it with water. Or for $10 a month (which I can cancel at any time) I can get protection from dropping my device, spilling water on it, or "accidentally" throwing it under a car to get it replaced due to bricking the device. Hm, seems like my $120 a year (which is nothing if you think about it being as it is paid at $10 a month) goes a lot further than your $20 case which *may* protect your device from damage while at the same time adding bulk and not really being a guarantee.
Yeah, I'll take my $10 a month insurance. Did you cancel your car insurance and instead just cover it with a thick foam too?
BTW, I'm still annoyed you never answered me in that previous thread about how much of an iFanboy I am

With the Best Buy plan you pay $10 a month, no deductible, and cancel at any time. So I could destroy the device in 3 months and get it replaced and in the end it will cost me $30. I can also then cancel my contract with them. Seems like a $30 well spent when you consider that this device is $500 out of contract.
Hi Forum,
I just smashed my HD2 by dropping it on a concrete floor when getting out of my car. Dumbass. I was wondering, I am 15 or 16 months into a 24 month contract with o2 in the UK (via CarphoneWarehouse), do you think that they would allow me to get an early upgrade? I was thinking about bartering with them and trying to get what is essentially an 18 month contract, but locked into 24 months to make up the 6ish months I have left on my remaining contract.
Has anyone ever haggled with them, to any success? I have got insurance through my bank as part of a Current Account Plus but as I've claimed on it before it'll cost me £50 excess and it took several months to get my phone back.
I'm paying nearly £40 per month, so I'm not a 'penny-punter' but appreciate I'm not on the world's largest contract either.
Maybe if I took o2's own mobile phone insurance too, this could help sweeten the deal for them. I don't know. I'm really at a loss without a working phone and although my phone does work, it's really difficult to see through the almost shattered screen.
Kind regards.

Sorry I'm a little off topic here...
1. You guys in the UK can get insurance if you break your phone through the bank?!
2. Penny punter? lol what does that mean
I'm sure you can work something out with them. In Canada (which has a greedy telecom industry) stuff like that always happens and it's not the end of the world. In my experience it's more who will serve you than company policy. Don't sweat it too much.
Yeah, because I got what's called a Current Account Plus. I pay my bank £5 a month and I get a £300 interest free overdraft (which I am in a lot!), free mobile phone insurance which usually costs around £12-£24 a month and various other bits and pieces I'm not bothered about.
Also, a penny-punter is a term used in the betting industry. I work in a betting shop. It's someone that comes in a bets pennies per race (50p, 25p etc.) rather than pounds. You have to treat them the same as you would someone that was whacking £10,000 on a quadriplegic donkey. In short: a cheapskate.
Gonna give o2 a call when they wake up at 8am this morning and see what can be done. I'll post my results. I sincerely hope that they're feeling generous.
Update: o2 and Carphone Warehouse stonewalled me. Basically said that I should have taken *their* phone insurance (for £24 a month!) and now I'm stuck with a broken phone and eight months left on my contract.
O2 did say I could lower my contract to £26ish per month, however. Then, once I had been on my new tariff for a month I could buy out my contract at the new price. But that's still around £180.
I have about £150 for rainy days, and it is indeed looking very gloomy, so I think I am going to put that towards a phone that'll keep me going until January and then get something new, shiny and soon-to-be-obsolete-in-another-six-months-time handset.
I'm really sorry to hear that. Sounds like that place is playing with the rules...
Would you be interested in a blackberry pearl flip? I know it s blasphemy talking about a BB here but I'm willing to send it free of charge (i would ask you to pay shipping though). I will check for it when I get home.

I really appreciate the offer. It's much more generous than I was ever anticipating, but I am going to decline. Sorry to sound ungrateful but I am really needing a phone with a large display and gaming capabilities, because I work evenings and Sundays. My phone is the only source of relieving boredom.
Again, I really do appreciate the offer though! Thank you.

It's swings and roundabouts.
With a bank account policy the premium is normally lower, but the excess can be higher and it's often not new for old.
With my O2 insurance it's £10 a month, £28 excess for any claim and I get a new phone the next working day.
I looked at the benefits from the £5 a month account Barclays are offering and other than the insurance for mobiles none of the benefits were of any use to me so I declined and stuck with my O2 insurance.
If I knew o2's was a tenner I would have gotten it myself. I'm sure they quoted 24 quid per month though which is why I declined. That is extortionate.

Blimey £24 I'd refuse to pay too!
http://www.o2.co.uk/support/generalhelp/howdoi/insurance
For basic phones it's £7.50 a month, high end phones it's £10 a month and iPhones it's £10 or £15 depending on model.
Excess is £25 or from £50 for iPhones.
I was getting confused between claims, the £28 and next day delivery was through CPW with my HD.
HD2 was £25 and I think a week or 10 days, and I had to hand over the damaged handset to the courier.
Once I get my new phone, I'm going to call O2 and see if they'll hook me up. As the phone will be 'third party' though, I'll probably just stick with what I have and then get it when I get a new contract in Jan/Feb.
there are many who can offer insurance for the at&t One X ........I am wondering who provides the best insurance to cover the device ? ? ?
It depends where you get your phone from. That's why I'm getting mines from Best Buy. $9.99 per month and covers everything except lost or stolen without a deductible and as many claims as you like. My wife dropped her gs2 and it was replaced 2 days later.
I used ensquared for my other phones. $65 or $75 for one year and covers everything and up to 3 claims per year with a $75 deductible for the first one and $25 after that

I think best buy is $10 a month, no deductible but doesn't cover lost/theft. I pay $15 for my iPhones and I recall the other phones being less.

Ensquared's deductible is $75 plus an ADDITIONAL $25 for second and third claims... so that'd be 100 bucks a pop if you had to replace your phone more than once. At least, that's what it is currently on their website... don't know if you were perhaps grandfathered in under older, more generous terms.

I only know this because I was checking them out earlier today! Just curious, has anybody actually had to file a claim (or multiple claims) with ensquared? It seems like a pretty good deal, but I am extremely weary of any insurance/warranty type service - it's been my (limited) experience that they try to squirm out of their contractual obligations. As they say: once bitten, twice shy.
I use the Best Buy protection.

- No deductible
- Doesn't cover loss or theft, but you can run it over with a car, and they'll replace it no questions asked.

FWIW, SquareTrade has a pretty good reputation, however there are some caveats ... for example, it's another 30 bucks for loss and theft coverage, which is included with the $99 2 year Ensquared coverage. SquareTrade's warranty is also only good for 1 claim with a $599 limit(I think), where as Ensquared covers up to 3 claims with a per claim limit of $1000.
Ensquared sounds like a really good deal with the included loss and theft coverage, plus up to 3 claims. But you know what they say about things that sound too good to be true...
I'll never get insurance for the device unless I can't get a warranty.
I'm pretty careful with my electronics so accidental damage has never been an issue.
And I have AT&T/HTC if anything goes wrong with it for a year.
I got some GWG Wireless Protection plan. $80 flat for two years (25 months actually) and $50 deductible on the claim.
http://stars.wirelessprotectionprogram.com/tc/WPPParrot2YTCsAllStates.pdf
It's pretty sweet because now that it's paid for, I already count the money as spent, there's no monthly fee I'm stuck with. $80/25 = $3.20/mo. so it's better than any other insurance plan I've ever had on a phone. Claims can be filled out online I believe or I can just go into the store and they'll help me.
I recently discovered that, if I automatically pay my cell phone bill with my Wells Fargo credit card, they automatically enroll me in their cell phone insurance program. The coverage is up to $600 and only has a $25 deductible! You might check and see if your bank/credit card company has something similar!

Woah, hold on there.
You could get third-party insurance, such as SquareTrade or Ensquared. But you would NOT be able to get insurance from Best Buy if you bought the phone at an AT&T store.
(Of course, Best Buy also sells AT&T contract phones, and if you bought it there, you COULD get Best Buy insurance).
My question is this; if I buy a phone with contract from Best Buy, or Amazon Wireless, can I sign up for insurance from AT&T?
Yes. I added insurance on a phone I bought from Amazon on contract.

I have a friend that has nothing but good luck with Ensquared. Here's the story.
My friend bought an unlocked Galaxy S, and had it insured with Ensquared. A couple weeks after she buys the phone, the mic stops working. She gives them a call and complain, and they told her they will send her out a replacement phone BUT it won't be a Galaxy S, free of charge.
She waits a couple days, and they sent a Brand new LG Thrive (3D) phone and told her to go ahead and keep her old Galaxy S.
My friend then goes out and buy an unlocked Samsung Infuse, insured with Ensquared. The speaker doesn't work as it should. They then send out an BRAND NEW (unlocked) Galaxy S II, back when they were just released last year. It was worth at least $500 back then. They tell her to keep the Infuse, and again refused to charge her for the replacement.
Corporate Discount?
Slightly off-topic, but my company has a corporate deal with ATT, which gets me a % off my bill each month. But I also found out when buying the HOX that with my corporate discount, I can actually buy any phone off-contract at 50% off retail, which means the HOX would be $300 out of contract. I had no idea this was part of our discount and would have never known unless I asked since not ATT nor my company would ever volunteer the info. Anyway, if you have a company discount, check into what it gets you. For me, this makes going w/o insurance a lot easier.
Bought mine at best buy. There insurance is 10 a month with no deductible. If I'm not mistaken att was 8 a month with 100 deductible.

Deductible for the One X on AT&T's insurance is $199.
Hey guys,
I currently have a Moto D3. I like it, but I have oil under the screen, leaving a huge black spot on my screen. It's transparent, but it makes things pretty difficult to view... And insurance replacement is apparently $100 US... (this is BS)...
So for a few hundred more I'm considering just paying full retail for a better phone.
I love my physical KB but I think it's about time to let it go, lol.
My question to you guys, as I've been in and out of things in the Android community lately, where should I look towards for my new replacement?
Anything in the near future I should just wait a month or two for?
Thanks guys!

You didn't know that? Read your contract before signing up for ANY insurance. Verizon insurance is $7 a month and depending on the plan you have a $99 deductible. For long time good customers att lets you upgrade your phone before 24 months. So really unless you are in the habit of destroying phones on a regular basis if you damage your phone it makes sense to forgo the insurance and limp along with a damaged phone for a few months and then upgrade as usual. I have never irreparably damaged a phone. So $7 month for five years is $420 saved. Add $100 for the deductible and now you are talking $520. I can get a pretty nice brand new phone for that much.
If you must get a warranty check out Squaretrade.
When I originally signed up it was only $50.
I replaced my D1 for $50... but yeah, you're right, I didn't really think twice about it when I upgraded.
ive had to use the insurance a few times (once stolen, once screen just went dead, once phone would not boot anymore). its more than paid itself off for me over the years.
Friend of mine bought his epic 4g touch from best buy and got their insurace. Months later he cracked the screen so he went back to the store and had another shipped to him for free. Apparently best buy's insurance program doesnt have a $100 deductible like Sprint does.
look at your contract
I'm located in Ireland, and for €35 per year extra on our home insurance we have 3 mobile phones insured. My service provider wanted €9 per month. So it was a bit of a no brainer
Insurance sucks!
I never ever purchase insurance contact , but when I updating new phone contact. they always suggested me to get insurance

When you get a new phone go with a authorized retailer. I went to go wireless went I got my dx2 cause Verizon's main store could not figure out how to separate my line from my mothers family plan into my own line. But I got the go wireless very of insurance and it costs me $6 a month and its only $50 if I need to use it.

So, I'm liking this phone. So much so I don't want to be without it. Im given a couple options for insurance, and im wondering what people have gone with. I myself have 2 Options:
FutureShop Product Exchange Plan:
Pros - Unlimited Exchanges
- I work at FutureShop, So no BSing around.
Cons- Doesn't Cover Accidental, Lost or Stolen
Price: 200-250$, 0$ deductable
Ensquared Insurance
Pros - Cheap as Hell
- All Phones replaced Fast, and From what I understand, most are new
- Covers Lost, Stolen, Accidental
Price 99$, 99$ deductable.
So really it comes down to if I think Ill break it, or whatever.
Ensquared looks like the no brainer decision to me. For a total of $200 you pay for the insurance & a deductible. The 1st option looks more expensive for the insurance even if you don't file a claim.

Yea, I know. However, FutureShop has over the counter, Brand New in Box EVERYTIME Phones. I'm just stuck and dont want to buy both, cause that would be overkill.
I went with Fido Device protection plan. They use Asurion, as do Bell, telus, and rogers. I just had to go through a claim with them. While the customer reps sound nice and all. The waiting time for a replacement was huge even though they mentioned next day replacements. I had to pay 10$ on my monthly plan plus 120$ deductible. My phone finally shipped after a week, will receive it on coming tuesday due to holidays in between. Really hope it's not a refurb or faulty phone.

Interesting, I went with the Telus protection. 8 bucks a month and $150 deductible and can be used twice a year. Didn't know of any other decent options. Just didn't want to get ****ed like I did when I smashed the screen on my imported S3.

If you havent purchased the phone already, purchase it from a Wirelesswave or T-Booth store in the malls, its $100 and covers you for 2 years, it doesnt cover any of the accidentals, but if you never have to use the warranty you get all of your money back at the end of your 2nd year.
