Atrix or Infuse - Samsung Infuse 4G

Hey all
I have an Epic 4G (rooted with a Gingerbread rom) presently and looks like I'm switching to AT&T (moving to an area with poor sprint coverage) I don't think I can wait for new phones, so its between the Atrix and Infuse. Both seem good, but if anyone has input as to why or why not the Infuse I'd like to hear it. Thanks.

Atrix or Infuse? Anybody switched between them?

I personally like the infuse. But if your into speed I recommend the atrix because it is running on gingerbread with motorolas applications platform. so it has no lag whatsoever.

Hrmmm....when I had both side by side i liked just about everything on the infuse better. they both have their pros and cons

If you do decide to go with the Atrix, Best Buy will have the Atrix and Nexus S free tomorrow Wednesday the 17th with 2-year contract. Since it is free it is cheaper than buying off contract price which is $529. You can still sell a Nexus S phone for about $300 if you decide to sell the phone to get another phone.

I grabbed the attic once for about 2 minutes and hated it. I don't know, I guess either I like it or hate it in the first few minutes. It was that or the inspire and I instantly loved the inspire when I first grabbed it. Of course the infuse comes along with its amazing screen and the rest is history lol.
Infuse, infused...running gingerbread

I had Atrix for about 3 month before I got Infuse.
Here is stuff I miss from Atrix which I can not have on Infuse
1. LED notification light in front (tells you if you have IM, email etc without need to power your phone)
2. Higher resolution screen makes reading small fonts much more easy on your eyes
3. Better performance due to dual core CPU
Stuff I hated Atrix for
1. Power button is on the back of the phone. I did not even know it's a possibility untill I got Atrix
2. Locked bootloader by default
3. Plain awfull screen. It looks like Infuse with 2 layers of plastic on top of it
4. Charging USB port on the side which make it difficult to mount in a car
5. Since it's NVIDIA powered you can not have Skype with video on Atrix
6. Lower resolution both front and back cameras

I own atrix and infuse right now and yeah they are both good phones and likes its said they have pros and cons. For now im on my infuse but still i gotta say that for what ive been reading here most of the "cons" that are being posted are "fixable", for example the locked bootloader its a 3 minute thing to unlock... the colors are definitely not as bright and sharp as my infuse but theres many ROMs that have managed to do better quality of colors on the atrix, the camera thing its yet true... the infuse camer is mind blowing... the atrix still camera its... ok... a bit dark and choppy sometimes, but the video camera once updated to the droid3 camera and optimez on the atrix upgrades the quality a lot, yet not to the infuse quality. The speed difference its a biggie, infuse its ok... atrix... puff speed demon, and more now on GB and so many roms optimized and kernels allowing to OC.
Now, i got both phones but i use more the infuse because i NEED the bigger screen, (yeah its .5 inches difference for me thats a big point in favor) but my bro for instance doesnt need that big screen and needs more power and ACTUALLY uses the WebTop application ( wich you may say blah blah you need the hdmi dock... no theres direct hdmi to tv-bigscreen hack) he uses the WebTOP and a lot of mods for it so hes actually running a "pc like" interface, but yet i DONT need it...
So you probably should give an extensive read to atrix forums and infuse forums, check out the hacks/mods/roms tech specs, camera quality and anything else you use, not what other people use.
That way you can choose the phone thats right for you.

You could wait for the Samsung Galaxy S II and get the best from the Atrix and Infuse in one phone. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_II

I'm really enjoying Skype with video over cell data, would Galaxt SII will have the same issue as Atrix (Nvidia chips are not supported by Skype).

Well im now looking at the SII which you can buy now unlocked if you rob a bank. There are warranty issues possibly. I cant really wait for the att version of the s ii so now i really dont know if the extra bux for the unlocked sii is worth it. Apparently the unlocked s ii wont do LTE but probably doesnt matter as i probably wont see LTE here for quite some time. So now its between the Infuse or unlocked S II. You guys pretty well talked me out of the atrix
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App

If you can survive the high upfront costs, by all means, get the S II. You're not locked into a contract and you can even take advantage of AT&T's dumbphone unlimited data plans for cheap ($15 a month for unlimited data on 4G). If you do the math, over 2 years, the difference in money spent isn't as much as it seems in the beginning (this is comparing the $25 2GB/month data plan to the $15 unlimited above).

Highly suggest seeing that it will be out on sept. 2nd
Dont buy an unlocked overseas unit....u can wait two weeks. If u cant wait buy an infuse or other att phone now...exchange it in 2 weeks
I dont expect we will see lte from att anytime soon....so dont let that hinder your decision

Next Phone?

The Captivate community here on XDA is nothing but awesome. So, I'm asking everyone: where are you going next? Will you be switching to Motorola and the Atrix 4G? Sticking it out with Samsung and the Infuse 4G? Maybe an Inspire 4G?
Please vote in the poll. I'm interested in seeing where Captivate owners are planning to head in the next couple of months.
PSA: Atrix 4G Pre-orders are LIVE! Only $399 off-contract with $100 discount!
I don't know because I have over a year on my contract. By that time who knows where we will be. I do think next time I get a phone it will be after its been out for a while. If it were the next couple months I think it would be the atrix.
This is my captivate. There are many like it buy this one is mine.
Im seriously considering the atrix but the infuse looks impressive they both have awesome features...im torn.

The Atrix is going where I've wanted to be for a while. If my phone is as powerful as a laptop, why have two separate devices? I'm a bit upset about the Infuse because it's what the Galaxy S line should have been. That all being said, I'll probably cave for the Infuse because of the "flashability" and brilliant screen.

Most people would disagree about your statement on the Galaxy S supposed to have been like the Infuse. I like a 4" screen and beyond that the Infuse really does not make much of an impact. The bad thing about the Galaxy S is Samsung not releasing source code.
I have 2yrs left on my contract so by that time phones will be installed into our brains
I despise Motorola phones, so I'm not touching those.
Samsung has been reliable, I'm not sure that I'd want to deal with the Captivate's jank anymore, and I don't trust Samsung to provide updates especially if they're corrupted with TouchWiz.
I love using HTC phones and their spec sheets and feel just seem so refined.
Alas, I'll probably defect from ATT. They've thrown too much crap into my face over the past 6 years. My employer can foot for my business phone, its service is far too unreliable for me. I'm probably going to Verizon.

I am a fan of the Infuse's front facing camera, 8 mp main camera with flash and moderately improved processor. When the Captivate was released, it was competing with the Evo and Iphone 4, both of which had better specs (on paper). I worry that AT&T will cripple the Infuse as they did the Captivate and take away it's competitive features to conserve network bandwidth. Plus I'll need evidence that the GPS works on the Infuse ;-)

You get me.
I think most ppl expectation of the Atrix is too high, unless you plan on running it stock.
And for those dead set on getting it, be prepared for a big change when it comes to Motorola development section, not much happening there compared to Samsung section.
I will wait about a month or so after release before buying 2 of the units in the poll (off-contract). I've learned that having patience on buying any electronic device that is first introduce can save you alot of headaches.
Well, I don't really have a manufacturer preference and I don't buy phones as an update, ie, not locked into 2 more years so I shop around different carrier phones. Actually though I get a great ATT plan through work so I'm not leaving, still using original iPhone unlimited data plan.
That said, I got my wife the HTC HD2 and about 2 weeks ago loaded the NAND version of Cyanogen. I must say if there is a newer version of the HD2 that runs Android, and works with ATT 3g in about a year or so i will be all over it. That is actually quite an awesome phone and if it worked with ATT 3g I might actually trade her.
I'm betting MWC doesn't bring AT&T much. Perhaps the second Galaxy S, but I'm thinking it will launch in several months, like the Captivate did.
MWC - February 2010 - Announcement of Galaxy S GT-I9000
Captivate announced - late June 2010
Captivate released - July 2010
The Atrix is looking at a possible March launch. So, it'll probably be a few months ahead of the Galaxy S2.
After dealing with Samsung's lack of updates, GPS problems, shut down problems, I'm personally inclined to give Motorola a shot with the Atrix. Let's hope there is an unlocked bootloader.

Advice if you don't mind

I'm debating on gettin rid of my jailbroken iPhone 4 for a inspire.
Should I hold off on the inspire for something better coming out?
I enjoy my iPhone Alot and my battery life lol but I can't make my mind up.
User there is some dev support already for the inspire which is a huge plus for me, but I'm getting tired of the small size of the iPhone and it's limits to customizing.
What do you guys think?
Also I came from a rooted Aria and Captivate before I went to the iPhone

Hi, make sure get a dual core cpu on next acquisition. Apple or no apple to be fair. Android is fun.

this is definitely a great phone. you may want to hold off until a better htc phone comes out with either of the two: dual-core 1ghz or better, front facing camera. If the inspire had both of those, this would be the most beastly phone on the market. if you're okay without both of those, then the inspire is for you. sense is awesome - lots of custom roms with and without - all are quick too! i got used to the size of the phone quickly after getting it and i LOVE LOVE LOVE this phone now. hope you make the right choice for yourself
Coming from the POC Captivate, this phone is awesome!
I do wish it had a front camera though, but not sure when I'd use it...it's plenty speedy though in stock form, much faster than the Captivate.
Dual core would be nice, but I had the Atrix and it didn't seem faster. I think it's all about coding and what you want it to do.
A co-worker of mine is an iPhone to Android user now.. he is happy overall, but does complain about the battery..
I am stock and easily get 2 days of normal usage. Not sure how long the iPhone lasts compared to the Inspire, but I think you'll be happy with this phone. I too came from the Captivate, and am much happier with HTC. Gps is flawless, screen size is perfect for my man hands, build quality is great (except for the darn battery cover )
I say go into a corp ATT store and play with the Inspire for 15 min.. awesome phone IMO.

HTC has no plans for a upcoming phone for at&t. My inspire runs super fast and games and video streaming is beautiful. So a dual core is mainly for speed. Y need more speed if the HTC is super fast? And I would never use the front facing camera. I mean really. I got a Mac for that.
CaNt FiX sTuPiD
I'd say hold off and see the infuse4g. I'm leery about samsung after the craptivate fiasco but the infuse is getting great reviews from engadget (while they aren't perfect I do find them to be pretty good overall) and I dont know about you but the extra .2" of screen might actually make a big difference, I know the .3" of screen between captivate and inspire were super nice. I will tell you while the captivate had more metal parts the HTC feels better built (except that damn battery cover everyone keeps mentioning, really HTC, what were you thinking?!)
There's no wrong answer when you switch from iphone to android, it's like going from a mud pie to filet mignon, even if it's bad filet mignon it's better than what you had!
And may wanna see what to see if bootloader is locked
CaNt FiX sTuPiD
Kinda wanting to stay away from the infuse as well as samsung and the bs they put us through with the captivate, I'm headin to a store now to go play with the inspire

Well if you are ATT only I would either stay with the iphone 4 or get the inspire.
This dual core thing is not proven yet. I have not seen one phone that is dual core that is awesome. I am sure I and everyone else will want one in 6 months to a year but right now there is nothing impresive about them. Att only has one other dual core that I have read about coming and its an LG....No Thanks...
Just got done Playing with one at the store, the size would take getting used to.
Seemed sluggish here and there but it's a store phone..and the fact it didn't have any Internet connectivity sucked.
And the captivate next to it was running 2.2 what a pos haha.
Overall it seems really nice, well constructed, pretty smooth as far as animation went.

The demo phone didn't have a SIM with a data connection? Ridiculous. They should've at least had it connected to wi-fi.
BTW, Best Buy has the Inspire for cheaper than AT&T. It is $79 there (w/ 2 year contract of course).

Moving in from atrix. Good move?

So, today i deiced i wanted a Infuse after having my atrix for less than 3 weeks. is it a good move?
how good is the performance on this phone?
Great move. I did and I'm lovin it. Everything about this phone is better. Dual core? Pshh my infuse is faster than my atrix ever was. I've had every phone and I love this thing

I'm picking mine up tomorrow, but I'll be keeping my Atrix as my main phone. The reps at the AT&T store let me play with the model device, and the screen looks huge!
Also, Atrix is getting a lot of hate, ATM, but our good friend Kholk is whipping up a nice bootloader bypass where we can be running CM7 and the gingerbready goodness you want.
I did the same and I do not miss one thing about the Atrix.
Ha i guess i did a good move then. this is my second atrix that u bought at best buy for 75 bucks with discounts from here and there.
called att today and told them i was on my second atrix with the same issues. they were going to send me a reburf i was liek not even a month old and getting a refurb. hell naw.
went to the att store told them i was told by the 611 people to go to the store and get it exchanged. they said they couldn't do it and that i was misinformed. i stuck to my story they got on the phone with a manager from att i talked to him and told him i sick and tired and i was going to cancel my contract right there and then. he said not to. that they would ship me the infuse 4g with 2 day shipping. he didn't mention anything about returning the atrix to best buy. so i guess i keep it?
You made the right move. You won't regret it. This sucker is fast and I can type better than any other phone I've had since my blackberry 9000. The few extra mm of screen make a huge difference

I just made the switch from the Atrix to the Infuse as well. Only been a couple hours and I'm already glad I switched.
Atrix was a huge letdown IMHO the lapdock was extremely overpriced for one. The plans were outrageous for two. And there was obsoultely no use for dual core. Just overkill. Oh plus the locked bootloader thing killed it too. Can't forget that

I had a Atrix 4G. Possibly the worst phone I have ever owned, it was just straight trash. I knew better than to get a crappy Motorola device. I had a Captivate for a while and loved it but needed a FFC and flash for the rear cam. I am back on my iPhone 4 but I found someone that will buy my iPhone 4 for $440 and I'll buy the Infuse off another guy for $400. I'm so tempted to do this.
What do you guys think I should do?
I am actually thinking about switching from the atrix too. I can't keep waiting for the bootloader to get unlocked any longer. Not really too happy with anything else about the atrix and pretty much just got it for the dual core. Do you guys think the 1.2ghz will get outdated soon with every phone coming out with dual cores? Worth buying the infuse or should I wait till the SG2 or "attain" or whatever the **** att calls it.

Most of the new phones still have single core CPUs. I'm not worried about the infuse being too slow to run the latest Android version a year or two from now. Look at the Nexus One, it still runs very fast and smoothly on a custom rom. You have to remember that Google designs Android to run on the most phones possible. Extra processing power is really only needed for gaming. And personally I'll take a tablet for gaming, and that can have the higher end hardware.
ITT: People who didn't know how to tweak the Atrix.
I moved from the Atrix and I think its a good move. I understood that the atrix had the power but honestly in every day use, I couldnt tell the difference. I like how the Infuse had side loading from the beginning and TouchWiz > MotoBlur.
Way I see it is I gained a bigger screen that even though doesnt have the res the atrix did, still looks more appealing.
ALSO, I'm actually getting HSPA+ speeds with this phone unlike I was with the Atrix!

Samsung Infuse or Motorola Atrix

I am able to upgrade my Captivate the 2 options i am looking at is the Samsung Infuse or the Motorola Astrix
I like my Captivate so moving to the infuse would be natural
but the Astrix has some nice reviews also both are 4G but if i was to Root it which would give me the better options

the infuse probably, well the atrix has been rooted and the webtop replaced with linux which is cool but the infuse is way easier and you have the ability to flash roms. motorolas locked bootloaders make things difficult for development but that's not to say there is none.

there is also this. the thrill and the attain should also be considered since they are on there way.
From someone who has both phones the only reason I chose the infuse was because of the 4.5" screen. You really need to rom your phone to make it perform well and even then you will have moments whet the phone will freeze if you are doing
a ton of things at once. other then that its a pretty sweet phone. I was just a sucker for the 4.5" screen on the infuse. although the atrix has a 4 inch screen the phone is a power house. ever since the latest update on the atrix if size doesn't meter to you id go with the atrix. It just feels better in your hand whenever I'm walking down main street using my infuse I'm afraid I'm gonna drop it when I use it with one hand swyping. Then again I'm only 5'9. I also miss the battery life of the atrix but I'm on infused rom so it isn't that noticeable. If you are a fan of roms cm7 beta 2 is out for the atrix now.
I'd still go with the infuse because the 4.5"screen is just so much easier for me as far as texting on my phone.no need to turn the phone sideways to text 70 wpm is a big plus your me. I've never been a fan is typing in landscape mode.

I have had the gs2 and now am on the skyrocket. Both phones in my opinion are great. You can't go wrong either way. I use my phone at the gym and no problems with audio disconnect. If you wish to have lte then get a skyrocket. I was going to get a vivid at on time my buddy had one I tried it out for a few days and didn't like it but this is my opinion so you have to find what works for you

I cant say I've used the GS2, but with ATT expanding their LTE markets, I didnt want to get stuck with a non-LTE phone for the next 2 years. Just my 2cents.
After having lte its not an issue. I'm in NYC and I'm on 4g most of the tkme . Phone speed and customization is

My iit guy needs a Droid he offered me his upgrade as a favour so I can get something for free or get a note or iPhone for the diff over 200
He knows I'm having issues with it. And he needs a Droid to learn it for his work and side work so he doesn't care what he gets

The i777 has cm9 and is more developed for as of right now, so if customization is the most important get the gs2. The skyrocket is a great phone, but the development is behind the other gs2s out there.

True, but with the Note and the T-Mo GS2 using the same Qualcomm SOC, it's probably a safe bet that we'll get and official CM maintainer sooner than later.
I owned both the Galaxy Note and the Skyrocket and I have to say that I'm pleased with both. In regards to the SGS2, as mentioned by others on here, if you live in an LTE city then I would go with the Skyrocket, if you don't then I would just buy a used SGS2 on Craigslist or some other site since the beauty of Android phones comes with the ability to customize it and since you will be technically voiding your warranty if you do anything against Samsung warranty regulations might as well go for a use one.
skyrocket end of story.. I mean cmon we have ics, lte, a bigger screen, its a samsung
Gotta recommend the note as long as you are okay with the gigantic stature. Otherwise the skyrocket is awesome.

I was faced with the same choice when I finally switched over (iPhone user)
and after doing a little research and talking to people, the Skyrocket just seemed like a better choice. 4 of my coworkers all have the GS2 and they said that they like the Skyrocket better... It all comes to personal choice, just go down and play with them both and see what you like...

Looking to get away from HTC and the vivid and get a gs2 or maybe even a note or 4s. Would you guys recommend this over the gs2 and why
I also see the dev here is a little behind the reg gs2, I'm not complain king but is there any reason why
Also how is the headphone jack here. Any sudden movement with the vivid and it disconnects and it doesnt help I only use I for the gym and my workouts are weights based and fast paced
Thx

So your choices are:
GS2, iPhone 4S or Skyrocket.
If it's a choice between skyrocket and GS2, I'd say Skyrocket. Bigger screen, LTE, NFC. Unless of course development is really that important to you.
The headphone jack is very solid and secure. No probs playing sports or training with it. It won't budge.
The choice between iPhone and Android. Somewhat different story. For me I prefer Android: no iTunes, bigger screens (instead of the postage stamp screen on the iPhone), I love the turn-by-turn navigation on google maps, LTE and the fact it's customizable if I choose to do so (it's nice to have the option).
