[Q] extract a App form a nandroid backup? - HTC Desire S

Hi. How do i extract a app and the app data form a nandroid backup? thanks!

You can use Unyaffs, there are many different programs that do the same thing.
I have uploaded both the .apk and the Windows version which you'll need to use though a command line.
You'll probably find using the APK easier.

For the sake of the five minutes it'll be on your phone I wouldn't worry about it too much, if you're that worried use airplane mode.
Or alternatively use the Windows version.

Credit goes to @pixeladdikt
Gonna go through and see if there is anything interesting, thanks Maxisma and pixeladdikt
edit: I thought when you downloaded something the estimated download time went down, not up
hope they have some specail apps inside
I've checked on ROGERS' pages and on LG's own one, apparently it runs LG's S-Class interface on top of standard Android, so there probably is some interesting stuff there.
Just saw some promo videos of it, very social oriented. Hopefully we can port it to Magic/G1.
There's some interesting things, about to install a video editor

Well you got farther than me, the video editor force closed and the workshop didn't have an app. Telenav is also in there it's the tn55 one. I'm afraid to use it though because I don't know of T-mobile will catch it and start charging for it

when i 7-zip'd the dump it has a folder 3rd Party... this then has framework etc of the ArcSoft apps placed on the phone...
idk what to do with them... but would this be neccessary or even able to be added into a ROM to have these apks work?
I've gotten the keyboard working by pushing libxt_jni.so and libautohan_jni.so to system/lib and than installing the XIM.apk though adb.

as well the build.prop needs and update I believe to get the divxregistration apk installed.
confirmed the keyboard works with above method. good work, not quite as good as htc-ime-imo.

to get the arcsoft working a build.prop change is required. than you'll be able to install the apps.

custom Hosts file | 3/6/2010 | 14,714 ads, banners, 3rd party Cookies GONE!!

What it does..
The Hosts file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. This file is loaded into memory at startup, then Android checks the Hosts file before it queries any DNS servers, which enables it to override addresses in the DNS. This prevents access to the listed sites by redirecting any connection attempts back to the local (your) phone. Another feature of the HOSTS file is its ability to block other apps from displaying ads (not all).
How to install..
unzip..
transfer hosts file to the tools folder of your sdk installation
open terminal with android connected and adb drivers installed
cd C:\android-sdk-windows\tools
adb remount
adb push hosts /system/etc
exit
..or simply use Root Explorer
You are now protected against 14,714 ads, banners, sites and 3rd party Cookies
works on any 1.5 ROM, not sure if 1.6, 2.0 or 2.1 since i only use cupcake
Awesome! I will test it out on 2.1 right now!
EDIT: There's no download link though lol. As soon as there is one, I will test it out on 2.1!

sorry for that, file is now uploaded! let us know if it works on 2.1. I'm not sure if 2.1 stores the hosts file in system/etc still.

Not sure wish I had of tested before installed for the popup blocker. I do know some apps still have adds where it appears 1 doesn't
can i still surf the 18+ sites with this shiz?
Tip:If you open the hosts file with notepad you can see all of the blocked stites

Yes you can, it only blocks ads and risky sites. Those sites you mentioned are full of ads, so with this file they will actually load faster.

you cannot change mobile network's DNS, but you can however, using wifi set a static IP and therefor change your wifi's DNS to openDNS.
doesnt this just duplicate the functionality of "AdFree" on the market? minus the updatability of the hosts file from adfree.
Some people just don't feel like downloading an app from the market when all it takes is to push an updated host file to /system/etc. I prefer doing everything manually anyways. You learn more about how things work. Instead of having an app do everything for you, now you know where the file is located, how it works, and using that information, you can easily update it whenever you want to filter out other known servers of spy/adware to suit your needs.

Low Battery + Camera Flash Tweak?

I was wondering if anyone knew of such a thing (a download to enable camera flash even at low battery) or would be kind enough to provide me with one, I would be so grateful. I've tried searching around to no avail. Thanks in advance.
*Actually, or if anyone knows where in the settings I can change this at because I've went through everything I see and I can't find an option for it.
I need it too....
Last time i checked, this was in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Drivers\BuiltIn\Battery\
Change the 0 value to "FlashlightpowerUnavailable" : 1
Cheers

All you need to do is to copy Camera.exe to \Windows folder. You are definitely doing it wrong. Try Resco's Explorer for file management.

What ROM are you using and what exactly is the message?
I am using the old ROM (1.48.707.2) WWE. I'm from the Philippines btw.
I'm sorry I forgot the exact message but it did say something like either the phone having not enough memory space (but I still have 78MBfree space) or installing a right-protected (certificate) file?

The patch is intended for 1.66+ Camera. Certificate checks must be disabled as the patched exe isn't properly signed.

Just a quick question from someone who isn't that experienced with all of these things:
Could this program be used to remove bloatware? As in, the preinstalled carrier/regional apps?
I used to do this with Root Explorer, but this seems no longer possible under froyo and this looks like a fairly easy solution to that problem.
Thanks for your help.

But perhaps it could be, i take a look into this.

Rogers Captivate-2.2 updated and found an interesting apk

I was just going through the /system/app directory and found this rather interesting .apk in there, "TetheringManagerRogers1126.apk". Anyone have any idea what Rogers is doing with this? Do you think this is what is causing people with non-tethering enabled accounts (under 1 gig of data) to not be able to use the Mobile AP feature? Would removing it bypass the restriction? Hoping someone with more Android knowledge can shed some light on it.

Does rooting not allow tethering in the Rogers 2.2?
Regarding your first reply, that has now disappeared:
"Root and tether to your hearts content."
I am rooted, how do you think I was looking through the /system/app directory structure.
Regarding your edited reply, rooting does not disable your ability to tether.
The point of my post was more towards the people that now cannot tether after upgrading to 2.2, there are numerous complaints about it. Mostly from Fido users by the looks of it. The option is disabled for them, if they try to enable Mobile AP it says something about contacting Rogers. I was thinking that possibly this file is the reason, and if they were to remove it, maybe they could enable Mobile AP again.
Tethering does not work for me, when it used on iOS. I never tried on Android 2.1, as I used mobile AP a few times instead. Maybe I just need to set it up again with Rogers since I just renewed my contact...
Mobile AP still works, but just one device at a time it seems? Not sure if thats a limitation or a problem. Now to get VPN to work...

Yes.
The message you have entered is too short.
I just found this thread while trying to fix a problem of Mobile AP/USB tethering disconnecting me after about 5 minutes of use. The reason I mention this is that my account should have not have had any tethering restrictions as I'm on the 6gb data plan. Mobile AP worked fine under 2.1, but as mentioned, after about 5 minutes of use on 2.2, both Mobile AP, and tethering would just shut off. I was able to tether fine using Kies though. Removed this file, and now have been connected for over an hour on Mobile AP Thanks!

Lol just use TiBu to get rid of "Tethering Manager"in the apps list.
@OP: yes, it does what you thought. But you already found that out.
Alternatively,
1. Root your phone
2. Download "Root Explorer"
3. Rename or Delete the file
4. Reset your phone
Ymodem-G
Your alternate solution rocks
