ADB is faster than FTP especially for large files

Nice work pal. Please include cut copy paste and delete option to and from phone. Thanks again.

Really nice (I might even try it out), but question - what is wrong with simple drag and copy? =)

im using android commander
gonna try it, nice work

Im using Qtadb, good work though! Keep it coming.

any advantage over androidSamba?
I'd like copy past running files on windows explorer with samba all the time.
Edit: Sry My Fault...ADB File Pushing, That is interesting.

This application transfer files when telefone is in debug mode so you cant use drag & drop.

Thanks for all feedback.
I am working on the next version wich will tell when select files has been sent to telefone.

First post updated with 1.0.0.16

The program does not start on my computer. Also, the installation wizard was in a language I don't know, hehe.
(Windows 7 x64. ADB works for me. Phone connected or not connected makes no difference.)

Sorry for the inconvenience

Just a quick question from someone who isn't that experienced with all of these things:
Could this program be used to remove bloatware? As in, the preinstalled carrier/regional apps?
I used to do this with Root Explorer, but this seems no longer possible under froyo and this looks like a fairly easy solution to that problem.
Thanks for your help.

Hello
No it can not be used to remove bloatware. But you can remount /system to RW with this app.
But perhaps it could be, i take a look into this.

Juts make another account and make it Admin. Then use the new account.
If your windows is that bad then I would either use a backup(if you did one) or a fresh install.

Find yourself a copy of BartPE with Password Renew in it.
Burn, boot, use password renew to reset the password for any account.
I'm trying this, except when I get to "adb shell a2sd install" it says a2sd: not found.
:\
I had to go to /system/bin before i could run a2sd via ./a2sd, after which it worked.
What's the benefit of this over Froyo's SD implementation?

it allows you to use the ext partition from previous versions of CM. Froyo's version now uses a fat32 partition on the sd card, therefore will not read the ext partition and the fact that your apps are on there.

It's not as good, but coming from <= CM5 you may want to port along your apps.
Also Froyo's SD implementation is supported on an per app basis, but can be forced via CM. Note that dalvik cache is only moved to SD when using legacy a2sd.

froyo implementation isn't as good as apps2ext. The froyo method uses the fat32 partition but only if the dev of the app allows it to be moved to the sdcard. plus the apps don't all load on boot because the phone has to mount (prepare)the fat32 partition of the sdcard. This is the reason that many apps are not launching at boot like SetCpu and other root access apps, because the system boots before the sdcard is prepared. This is also the reason why many widgets and apps are missing from the app drawer for a lot of people as well. Cyanogenmod really needs to look at this and think about changing back to the old cm5 way of doing things.
I am trying to find a good backup app as doing a Nandroid did not work for me with doing aps2sd this way.

[APP]-FD DroidBoot-Autostart Android!

DroidBoot
This is a small app I made to start Android / Linux at Windows Mobile boot.
Thanks to JMZtaylor and yozgatg for their dual-boots, I just got tired of clicking everytime I started my phone so made this.
I feel we are getting very close to a day to day usable version of Android! I already use it instead of windows mobile since about 6 days ago.
The .cab file installs the app to Program Files/DroidBoot. It also creates a reg entry to autostart the app which launches ClrCad.exe and HaRET.exe at boot if found. If HaRET.exe does not exist on Storage Card/ or in Storage Card/Android the app will exit and Windows Mobile will start as normal.
If you want to use WinMobile. Eject SD card before boot.
WARNING!! May cause Windows Mobile to become inaccessible if installed on a phone with only internal storage!

If it doesnt start and you get an error. you may need the .Net compact framework 3.5

Did you try installing the .net framework?
Did you get an error message?

can you upload it again?
Reuploaded on zshare.
To the people who say it doesnt work. Can you check in a registry editor if the value got added to init.
You are looking for:
Hkey_Local_Machine/init
And there should be a string value in there which says "Launch72" "Program Files/DroidBoot/Droidboot.exe" if its not there. That could be the problem.
Another idea is that it might not work on non WWE roms. Due to the storage card and or program files being named differently.
Why don't you just use the Energy ROM "Desire v5" from NRGZ its maybe way better than using an application, opinion

Then you should hardcode the file to that location and not use %programfiles% for installation of those files in the cab. The language of the rom doesn't mather anymore then.
Thanks for the idea, will implement it asap!
Edit: Part of my code in the app refers to /Storage Card/, when its trying to find haret. Any ideas to get around that?
Gav check http:--msdn.microsoft.com-en-us-library-aa446567.aspx#spfiles_topic_05 for your Storage Card location solution. Replace "-" with "/"
does this works for touch pro 2

Good idea nonetheless!!!
Ok..
It booted once, now when I try to reboot I get a message that says I need to unzip a ROOTFS file onto my SDcard. I have never done that before. I cant get it to boot anymore. Any help?
i have the same problem. now i installed the rom from beginning and will see what happends. i tell u later.
Edit: I had to Replace the android files in SD card and put it back from where i got them " downloaded ones " now it works again.
HELP
i had already had sense android 2.1 on my hd2, i downloaded the latest zimage...or so i thought, and a patch of some sort..sorry for this im new to all of it, but when i heard android on hd2 i was very excited...how do i put a different version of android or download a different zimage file onto my hd2? i downloaded the auto boot program but when i get into android i cant make calls for sum reason it lags tremendously...it also freezes or something too i press the end key to lock the device but when i unlock it blank screen. is there a more stable version of android i can download? how do i get it on my sd card once i have the auto start on? help would very much be appreciated. thank you.

DOOverclock - Easier Way to OC Your Droid 2

Hi all.
Overclocking for your Rooted Droid 2 and Droid X on Linux/Mac and now Windows! Before continuing, consider this alternate method.
http://www.droid-life.com/2010/10/22/how-to-overclock-the-droid-x-or-droid-2/#more-17844
If you get a permission error through adb shell, use the Terminal Emulator app and enter SU, then run the script again.
Instruction for Mac:
1. Extract files. Doubleclick the dooverclock.zip file, and drag and drop the folder to your desktop.
2. Next, open terminal, and navigate to your folder. It'll be something like cd /desktop/dooverclock or cd /Desktop/dooverclock.
3. Now you need to change permissions to the dooverclock file. Enter:
chmod 0755 dooverclock.sh
4. Make sure you are in PC Mode. USB debugging should be enabled. Don't need icon showing.
5. Run dooverclock.sh by entering:
./dooverclock.sh
6. Follow directions of the UI.
Instruction for Linux:
1. Extract files. Doubleclick the dooverclock.zip file, and drag and drop the folder to your desktop.
2. Open the folder and right click the dooverclock.sh file. Go to permissions and go down toward the bottom of the window and check the allow file to be executed or something like that. Press ok.
3. Make sure you are in PC Mode. USB debugging should be enabled. Don't need icon showing.
4. Run dooverclock.sh by double clicking it, and choosing run in terminal.
5. Follow directions of the UI.
Instructions for Windows:
How-to Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ieaiSxamDg
1. Extract folder from zip. Open the .zip and drag and drop the folder onto the desktop.
2. Make sure phone is in either Charge only or PC Mode with USB debugging enabled.
3. Open the folder and double-click dooverclock.bat, and follow the UI
4. Hope it succeed, check with SetCPU.
How to use the custom.sh
All you have to do is edit the custom.sh file, edit your settings, and save the file. From there, just open the scripts and choose to overclock using the custom.sh file.

Added Windows version! It ain't pretty, but it'll work. I hope...
Found something on the mac side. ADB fails to run with the version you included. Works if you copy the adb binary file from your android SDK folder. :]
EDIT: Playing around with this a bit...working great so far. Running @ 1.1GHz, pretty stable. Is there any way to add more slots? For example 300/500/700/900/1100?
When you say set with setCPU, are you referring to the market app of the same name?
I answered my own question. Running nicely at 400/700/900/1200 on Epic 2.7, this is great
getting ready to dl and try... question tho... do we need to do this after each reboot, or will this stick? (or is there a simple method from the phone since you already put the files on there?)
Thanks and keep up the good work... will donate on payday!
:O!! Will have to try after class today. Nice work!
currently you have to do it after every reboot, there is a way to make it semi permanent but you still have to execute the files on every boot

Thanks for the definition. What is the purpose for changing the phone's clock speed? Once I deleted the bloatware on my phone, it helped to make my phone load programs and such a lot faster.

How to hack the Home Screen Tips Widget?

How do we hack the Home Screen Tips Widget?
There seems to be one included with a few roms. I'd like to be able to change it so that I can use it to learn Japanese words. Is it just a question of editing an xml file or something? Does anyone know where it is stored? If it is baked in a rom, is it therefore impossible to edit?
Thanks.
Decompile the apk, and inside the /res/values/ directory look at the arrays.xml file
CM source -> HERE
Thanks a lot!
I'll get to it.
I'm unable to get it to work at the moment. I've been following this video tutorial too. Are there any obvious things I could be doing wrong please?
I can decompile the apk and rebuild it after changing it. The apk will run but fail to install. Or if I install it in a zip file and via Recovery it seems to install but doesn't show up in System/Apps. (I'll try pushing it with adb)
How do we disable verification? (10:40)
(I'm using CM7 7.02)
Thanks for any help.

You cannot replace a "system" app with an apk which is not signed as a "system app". I had the same issue when I started fixing the DCIM incompatibility in the stock Camera app.
My question for you is: do you have the arrays.xml file already compiled to suit your needs? What phone do you have (HDPI, MDPI, LDPI)? I can make you a custom widget and send it to you.
That's very kind of you hrk.
The phone is an HTC Desire HD.
I should keep trying to learn to do it myself to be honest because I'll be changing it every couple of weeks hopefully, once I learn certain words etc.
Maybe you could talk me through the steps you take or maybe you use different methods or a different program compared to the video?
Anyway thanks for your kind offer.

I set up a build environment (read "I can cook ROMs"). This way I can modify the original Protips project, and then build the apk with the AOSP signing key. If you are running a Stock ROM or a customROM which has not changed the signing keys (e.g.: CyanogenMod uses the same key AOSP uses), the Protips.apk will work flawlessly.
Setting up a build environment requires a bit of time and around 5 GB of hard disk, but it's something everybody can do. The beauty and winning point of Android Open Source Project.
That's great. Thanks hrk.
I'll follow your advice and set up a build environment..

That's good to hear, but when I wrote "build environment" I meant the entire platform.
With the Android SDK you can build apps, but you won't be able to properly sign them: you can have your own signature and publish them in the Market, but you can't "re-sign" system apps.
Good work!
Ah. I see what you mean.
Maybe that will be the next step in the near future.
In the meantime I'm inspired to make a similar app/widget from scratch which will do what I need..
Thanks.

I think no because we need the system signing key
Any signer should work. But depending on how you edit and build the apk, you might not be able to "install" it, but have to push it instead

Read my previous posts on this very topic.
You can't sign a system app without using the system key. It can't be easier than that.

[Guide][WindowsAndroid] Install Gapps on WindowsAndroid

Download the program from: WindowsAndroid
Run as administrator and install the program.
Install Gapps:
1. Download gapps for ICS HERE.
2. Unzip the gapps.
3. Find the system folder that was unzipped, then go into the apps folder. Copy all of the apks
4. Go to C:\SocketeQ\windowsandroid_root\system\apps
5. Paste all of the apks in that directory.
6. Restart Windowsandroid
7. Enjoy gapps.
Note: You will now be able to add a Google account and get into Google Play but there is not really anything in the Play Store at this time.
Note #2: There have been reports that, this may not work on AMD processors. Intel seem to work just fine.
Very cool. Like you say, little you can do with it so far and very regular crashes even just using Play Store and built-in apps, but definitely one to keep an eye on.
The emulator won't even start.
I get an error in the cmd window that app_process(4776) terminated abnormally.
I got some screenshots if it helps.

Are you running it as an administrator? If so try removing the program from Add or Remove programs. Then going to your C: drive and delete the file SocketeQ. Re install the program, once it is installed open WindowsAndroid first. Then close it and install the Gapps after running it one time. See if that helps anything.

Sorry for late reply, lots of school lately.
I get to bootanimation/loading screen, then the error comes.
Has anyone found out how to switch to Full-Screen or change resolution yet?

I tried on the school laptop (intel processor) and it worked great. Still not working on desktop (AMD) though.

As of right now you just have to try and see what you can get to work. This is a very early release and so there are a lot of things that need fixed. I just want to let people know that this is out there and that its something to look out for.

Installed through the Play store, nothing. Even if you can find an app listed as compatible, they won't download. Manually installed, try it and see.
