[Q] downgrade from 2.3.4 to 2.3.3 - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hi, I am an i9000 user. I upgraded my phone to 2.3.4 and rooted it. I want to unroot it. I also want to know how to go back to 2.3.3

Just flash it with ODIN
it is easy but you need to read about how to use Odin if you have not before, do that throughly.
Once you are familiar.
Get the correct 2.3.3 firmware you want from samfirmware dot com (you need to register free)
Make absolutley sure it is the correct firmware and read the how to guide on the site.
Flash it and that is that (you do not need to unroot before, the new firmware will be unrooted). Do not forget to back up all your data first as flashing wipes all out.
QUESTION but why on earth do you want to go from the better 2.3.4 to the bugy 2.3.3 ? (that is why it was released in May to be replaced by 2.3.4 in June) !!!!

why?
was wondering the same thing...im trying go upgrade...why go
back down?

General root question

Hi there,
its maybe a stupid question, but what the hell...
..when you update your sofware. from 1.6 to 2.1 or 2.1 to 2.2
do you have to root your device again? or does it stay rootted?
and do you also have to reinstall all your files again or not?
thanks
I was wondering something similar. I was wondering that if I root my Vibrant now, will I have problems when t-mobile pushes the 2.2 update?
If I wont ill root my phone, if i will ill leave it alone until the 2.2 push

If you are already rooted and updating the ROM version, you will NOT loose root. As long as you keep with the custom built ROMs, you'll stay rooted.
If the ROM requires a wipe, then you will loose all your files. There are ROMs that are no-wipe, which allow you to upgrade to the newer version without having to reset your phone.

Do NOT download the T-Mobile 2.2 update if you receive it on your phone. You'll more than likely loose root.
Either download the custom built ROM (not sure if the Vibrant has) or stick with your current version.
thanks for clearing this up...

im not rooted now so its no big deal. however once it pushed ill just root it then and call it done.
I'm not 100% but I think everyone who did the OTA update to 2.2 are now finding that all the rooting tutorials are for 2.1 and cannot root until updated tutorials make their way out. With that said, I would root now while you're still on 2.1 and completely avoid your stock OTA 2.2 update. You'll be able to still update to 2.2 but it will be on a custom rom... win-win.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
A little off the op's post, but....
I have a motorola droid, just updated to the froyo 2.2 OTA. Rooted it easily with UniversalAndroot.apk.
i had rooted my galaxy S
and my device can't go into the download mode
because of the software/ hardware problem ( 3button can't use)
can i fresh a new rom without download mode?'
my rom is Eclair.dtjg4 now

[Q] So I went back to stock on my phone

because I wanted to try out a gingerbread rom and i figured that since I was at stock I would open up Kies to see what kind of update it would say for the phone, but when I looked at it, Kies doesnt show anything. I mean it reads and finds my phone no problem but where it shows "Current Firmware Version" its just empty.
I remember previous times I did it, it would still show Version 2.1 and ask me if i wanted to update to 2.2.
So I guess im asking, if I should be concerned with this?
I did use Odin to go back to 2.1 btw
which odin?
odin3 one click? the ATT one? the one that obviously wouldnt work with Rogers keis?
or odin3 flashing utility with the Rogers Stock roms in my sig?
keis is crap anyway. if you want 2.2 flash my 2.2 stock. but dont bother if you are going to flash gingerbread. avoid 3e recovery, but theres a fix for that too in my sig.

Actually it was yours in your sig. It was the only one I have been using since I found it at like the beginning of the year. You are right Kies is crap but I keep it because id like to give Gingerbread stock a shot once it comes out before flashing to gingerbread roms. But now that I think about it, I think it might be that kies had an update when i opened it since its been so long from the last time i used it. So it was probably that.
And thanks I will look at that 3e recovery before i start flashing.

You will have to have to follow these steps to get NVflash a recovery. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847 Then you can flash this from recovery. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1048274 to go back to froyo. If you only want to go to froyo to get root you can follow the first link and NVflash recovery then flash one of the pre rooted roms in the development thread. If you want the pure stock vanilla then you can flash the stock recovery by following the same quide as the first link I posted.
I cant make it work :/
i did everything it says on the thread you send me, and it doesnt work i cant go back to froyo. :S
I think i just broke the phone =( it stays in blank rebooting it self F!(#(&!$#&($13 the screen is black with the light blinkin =( what can i do????

Back to vanilla first?

Hi,
Installed the now defunct Whisper Systems 'Whispercore' Android a while back but want to install the new ICS on my I9020 phone.
Have unlocked the boot loader and gained root using these instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=895545"
which seemed to work great, and then downloaded the ICS update in the sticky thread on this forum and followed the instructions but only get some message about 'assert' and 'google keys' and how the update failed. I'll only copy it all out if you think it'll help
So do I need to go back to 'vanilla' 2.3.5. and if so as anyone got a link and guide?
thanks
I have the same issue
I too want to get the new vanilla ICS on a rooted phone. I understand that I need to go back to Gingerbread stock rom and work my way up from there. Is there a guide or a procedure that I need to follow? Any help would be appreciated.

update

I'm tempted to update my phone to GB (mexican version) just to know if it's better than v21a, not sure if it can be rooteable or anything
so if the case is that it can't be rooted or worths, can I go back to v21a without probs??
It shouldnt be a problem to flash back if you know what your doing
Learn how to do this))
