[Q] LG not honoring warranty from non-authorized dealers- anyone else have any luck? - T-Mobile LG G2x

Still with the GB update, eagles blood rom, and CM7 rom I still am getting reboots and SOD. I chatted with them and seems like I'm SOL with warranty on the phone since I got the phone off craigslist and not an authorized reseller.
Every LG phone and device has a one year limited warranty which starts from the date of purchase, or original purchase (If it was a replacement that is), unless you purchased a refurbished phone which has only 90 days of warranty. If you would need to send the phone or device to LG, we will perform a cover to cover check on the device to see what the issue is, if our technicians find that the issue is caused by any type of physical, liquid, or cosmetic damage on the device then fees will be applied, at this point you will be notified via email or through a phone call before doing any repairs. As well, this warranty will not cover the device if it was purchased through a non authorized LG dealer, such as E-bay, newegg, craiglist, etc…; if our technicians determine that the issue is a manufacturer’s defect, the device will be repaired or replaced by a certified refurbish unit. This process has a turn around time of 5 to 7 business days, from the day that our technicians start working on your device.

Has anyone had any luck with warranty through LG or even T-mobile when they didn't get it from an authorized re seller?

Samsung has the exact same policy. Before repair, they ask for an invoice and a credit card statement if the invoice is questionable. They also have a s/n database to track which phones were shipped to which dealer to match against the invoice. The manufacturers take the authorized retailer thing pretty seriously.

Try contacting the seller to assist you with this or ask him where he got it from. Tell LG you paid cash or were given the item as a gift from a now deceased family member.
Tell them the device was purchased though an authorized dealer and then was given to you or sold to you by a friend. Does friend count as Craigslist or Ebay?
Newegg isn't a authoized seller?

I don't know how things work in Argentina, but I know here in the states, if you've been with your carrier long enough you can request an unlock code from them at no charge.

^^ Exactly what this guy said. CONTACT EBAY RIGHT AWAY!
CALL THEM ON THE PHONE. Say, "Item not as described". Tell them you want to escalate it to a claim. They will tell you to ship the item back and give them a tracking number, also get delivery confirmation. You will get your money back as soon as eBay gets delivery confirmation from the postal service.
Experience: Returned a touch screen acer laptop with dead zone in the touch screen when it was claimed to be 100% working
AND WHEN YOU GET YOUR MONEY BACK... I have 2 Motorola backflips... I bought one unlocked, used it on T-Mobile for 2 days, and then saw AT&T was offering free backflips with new service. So now I'm on AT&T with a free Backflip, but I do have an unlocked Backflip sitting here as well. I'll sell it to you for $280 + shipping, via eBay. I bought it for $290 about 3 weeks ago. You should also use "Bing Cashback" to get 8% cash back on the "Buy it Now". PM me if you're interested.
The Backflip is the hottest phone ever.. Lol. Good choice.
lol i dont know about the backflip being "the hottest phone ever" but i guess to each their own right
If you bought something on eBay but didn't receive it or you received something that's significantly not as described, PayPal Buyer Protection can help.
PayPal Buyer Protection covers eligible transactions for the full purchase price plus original shipping charges. Some purchases -- like vehicles in the Motors category, capital equipment in the Business & Industrial category, and Real Estate -- aren't eligible for PayPal Buyer Protection.
To qualify for PayPal Buyer Protection:
Use PayPal to buy an eligible item on eBay.
Pay for the item with one payment. Items purchased with multiple payments aren't eligible.
Send your payment by clicking the Pay For It button on the eBay invoice or by clicking the Pay Now button on the eBay item page.
Let the seller know there's a problem with the transaction by opening a dispute in the Resolution Center within 45 days of making your payment. Then, escalate the dispute to a claim within 20 days of the date you opened the dispute.
Keep your PayPal account in good standing.
Find out more about PayPal Buyer Protection in our PayPal User Agreement.
You can report your problem in the PayPal Resolution Center or the eBay Resolution Center. Either way, you’ll receive the same coverage.
To find out how to report a problem on eBay, go to eBay and click "Resolution Center" at the bottom of any page.
The fastest way
I am not going to add anything useful to the conversation. BUT....
While the Paypal dispute resolution center is a great thing. I think the fastest and easiest way to go about this is to get a freaking code. He has the phone there, there's no need to reship wait and buy another and so on. That is if he can get a code... That was the question.
Open a dispute, or spend $2.15, its not that expensive

All you guys fail with your comments
I say he should ask him for the $3 to get a unlock code. He will probably say yes to avoid shipping costs of sending it back and the hassle of dealing with a return.

Hi,
I bought several times in Ebay from Argentina, I opened a dispute once and got my money back, but maybe, in this case, it's better to just unlock the phone in your hands.
Anyway, I'm willing to buy a phone, mainly for internet and email while traveling in Argentina. I want to buy an AT&T blackberry or similar. I know this unlocked phones do work for sms and calling, but I don't know if they work for Email and Internet or 3G: did you unlock your phone? does it work for Internet and Email?
Thanks

If I bought from walmart.. can I do an exchange for a different one at tmo?

I'm having WiFi issues and need to replace it but all the walmarts that did have the sensation where I bought it are sold out.. can I get a replacement from tmo?

If you bought it at Walmart you can't ever do an in store exchange in a TMO owned store. If your past the return period at walmart, you can do a warranty exchange through Customer Care. It's still new enough you may get a brand new one versus a refurbished one.

Call htc technical support they will send you a box to send your phone and send you a new device . I bought mine from wall mart and sent it back no questions ask with my previous phone. As long as your phone is not physically damaged for a entire year you are covered for a replacement. I had the htc hd2 replaced four times and I didn't pay nothing.

I am a department manager at Walmart and you don't have 30 days. On Verizon and att you have up to 30 days to exchange. T-Mobile has always been 15 days no matter what. To the user who's store is doing different you are eating the cost and taking money out of your my share check. Each store will be different but at mine I do not do returns after the time period. I give them the number for manufacturer support.

And I work for T-Mo and its 14 days for upgrade/contract extensions...30 day buyers remorse for new activation's.
I will provide you our policy verbatim here at T-Mobile. See Below and this will answer ALL questions.
If you recently purchased a new T-Mobile phone
You have 14 calendar days (30 in CA) from the date of purchase to return purchased equipment to the point of purchase where you purchased your device from. Equipment must be in good working condition with original contents and packaging to be eligible for a refund of the purchase price. This return policy applies to the purchase of new equipment from T-Mobile or its authorized dealers. Proof of purchase is required. We may charge a restocking fee. A different return period may apply to accessory purchases. Prepaid cards, software, or games are not refundable.

If your phone is defective and still under the manufacturer warranty
If your phone is defective and still under manufacturer warranty, you can return it directly to the manufacturer. T-Mobile can assist you by providing you with a replacement phone and submitting your phone to the manufacturer for you. This is a service that T-Mobile provides as a supplement to the manufacturer warranty that may come with your phone.
If you would like T-Mobile to provide you with a replacement phone and to send your defective phone to the manufacturer for you, contact Customer Care to order a replacement. Please note that when you call, Customer Care will first attempt to troubleshoot your phone issues. For this reason, please make your initial call to Customer Care from a different phone or you may limit the ability to troubleshoot.
Once you receive the replacement phone, you must return the defective phone to T-Mobile to complete the exchange.
To receive a replacement phone in advance from T-Mobile, you must agree that we may charge you an out of warranty fee (Out of Warranty Fee) for the value of the equipment if your phone is found to be outside the manufacturer warranty period and/or is physically damaged in a manner not covered by the manufacturer’s warranty. You will only be charged the Out of Warranty Fee if, after T-Mobile has received your phone and inspected it, the phone is outside the warranty period or is otherwise defective in a manner not covered by the manufacturer warranty, as described below.
IMPORTANT: Customers can return devices directly to the manufacturer if they do not want to participate in T-Mobile’s phone replacement program. Those customers who elect to participate in this program must agree to pay an Out of Warranty Fee of up to $300 (depending upon device model) if their original phone is ultimately determined not to be covered by any manufacturer warranty.
Customers can contact T-Mobile Customer Care for the Out of Warranty Fee for their particular device.
NOTE: Customers who purchased devices under our Refurbished Device Program can also participate in T-Mobile’s phone replacement program if their phone is still under T-Mobile’s 90 day limited warranty. You must agree to that we may charge you an Out of Warranty fee if your refurbished device is found to be outside the limited 90 day warranty period and/or is physically damaged in a manner not covered by the T-Mobile 90-day limited warranty.
When receiving a new replacement phone, you have two available shipping options:
UPS Ground shipping ($9.95 plus any applicable tax) for delivery within seven business days (unless the item ordered is on backorder).
UPS Express shipping ($19.99 plus any applicable tax) for delivery within three business days (unless the item ordered is on backorder) excluding weekends and holidays. UPS Express shipping is not available to PO Boxes, Military addresses that contain APO AE, or prepaid customers.
T-MOBILE SUCKS!!!!! I have spent 3 hours on the phone and in store this evening trying to replace my Sensation that is eating SD cards.....
I went into the local T-Mobile store and was basicly told by the rep there that he couldnt help me at all, due to the fact of me purchasing the phone through Customer care..... I called customer care and after almost an hour (and getting disconected 2X) they agreed to ship a new phone out.... but it wouldnt be here till Tuesday at the earliest.... well this is the reason I went to the store, I am going to be gone for the next 1.5 weeks..... the reps solution was to ship it out and let it sit on the front step for about a week!!! When I complained I was transfered to an "Account specialist" who proceeded to interupt me several times, and say there was 100% nothing she could do.... I asked to be transfered back to the lady who was going to order the phone and she hung up on me!!!!
After calling back for a 3rd time the only thing the rep offered to do was to log my complaint.... no offer to place order phone, no offer to see if there was any way to allow me to pick it up in store etc....
T-mobile will not allow you to even pick up a replacement phone in the store if the orignal was purchased through customer care.... So I would HIGHLY DOUBT that you could exchange the phone at a t-mobile store if you purchased it at Wal-Mart! As long as you bought the phone T-Mobile DOESNT CARE about you, you are already locked into a contract so you dont matter to them!!!
Its also 30 days @ t-mo if you buy the phone off contract. I've gone through five sensations before I found the perfect one. So far so good.

#1 Each location (call center, online, corporate store front) Is alotted a specific portion of devices with traceable by location imei numbers.
#2 Having to return the device to the place you purchased it was included in the contract & receipt IN BOLD LETTERS. Try reading it again.
#3 Walmart purchases their devices directly from HTC or the OEM. NOT FROM US. This is why they can sell them cheaper.
#4 Eating a SD card seems like something you are doing, like buying cheap cards online. That is NOT our fault.
#5 If you are going to be leaving town we can ship replacement devices to where you are, not just your home. So your story makes littls sense.
We do care and i am sorry you had this type of experience. I don't work in customer care but if I did i would have suggested you ship to wherever you are going.

Bought mine yesterday at Walmart. We noticed on the forms it says 14 day, but 30days in California.
Ok, here's my story.
Purchased an upgrade from Vibrant to Sensation through Customer Care. Phone arrived last Wed, so I'm within the 14-day remorse period. This morning the phone died. Door nail dead. Won't turn on at all, no lights with charger plugged in. Went to TMO store, swapped batteries, nothing. Guy says since I ordered through CC I have to call them for a replacement and they would "ship me one over night" (his words).
Over an hour on the phone with CC, transferred to 3 different people, the best they will do is have me ship my dead phone back to them, once they receive it next week I have to call and they will undo/redo my upgrade deal, and ship me a new phone.
CSR told me all TMO stores are privately owned (not actually T-Mobile), so that's why the store wouldn't replace my phone unless I bought it at the store.
This is not what I would describe as great service.

Elvis,
If T-mobile can ship to any address why did no one at tmobile suggest this??? Maybe the phone reps need to be instructed of this.
Patriot memory is not a "cheap" memory, Kingson is not a cheap memory, they are both well known brands with excelent track historys.
If I test the SD card in a PC, and copy data to it, power off the phone, pull the battery, insert the SD, insert the battery, and power on the phone and then I receive a message stating the card is not formatted, click OK to allow the phone to format it, and then receive a message stating the phone can not complete the format.... how is that me doing anything wrong??? On our other phone I didnt even power off the phone when I put in an inexpensive SD card, and it is still working great.

So, if I do a search for stores here:

what tells me it's a real T-Mobile store versus an "authorized dealer"?
If the one near me is a real TMO store should they have replaced my dead phone?

Samsung's warranty terms vary by country. Generally they are more concerned that it was purchased from an authorized reseller. If someone buys a Samsung product to give as a gift for example it would be silly for them to say the warranty only applies to the gift giver and not the recipient. If who you are buying it from can provide you with the original receipt and if they bought it from an authorized reseller you should be fine. If you can't get a receipt and/or it wasn't purchased from an authorized reseller you'll definitely have a problem should it need repair under warranty.

Warranty on Nexus 5 bought in US valid in Europe/Austria?

I've already looked around here and elsewhere and have not found an answer to my question, but hopefully someone here knows the answer. Some quick background info:
I'm from the US but I live primarily in Europe (specifically Austria) and want to get a Nexus 5 for my girlfriend. Unfortunately I am a bit concerned about the warranty situation. Obviously Google will not honor the warranty on the device in Austria, but will LG? I haven't called LG's Austrian support line yet (since it's a Sunday) but perhaps someone here can let me know and help me avoid sitting on hold for who knows however long.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide!
Hi, I've contacted Google in that case already.
The thing is: Google and LG warranty policy is not the same.
Sadly if you buy N5 from a GP Store you're stuck with a warranty available only in the country where you bought it via GPS. That is what they wrote:
"LG's policy is different than Google's Policy.
If you would like to utilize LG's repair services, you are more than welcome to do so.
As far as an advanced replacement from us, warranty replacement service from Google is only provided within the country from which your device was originally purchased.
Again, if you want to get your Nexus 5 repaired by LG you can do so but it would be at your own expense. "
I asked about sending device from my home country and if they will send it back:
"At this time, refund and warranty replacement service from Google is only provided within the country from which your device was originally purchased. Under no circumstances can we cover international shipping costs to return your device to the original country of purchase."
There is an option to "transfer" warranty to someone in US:
Or, if the warranty is still under your friend's name, since they were the purchaser, you can send the Nexus 5 back to them in the US and they can contact us about a replacement. If the warranty is not still under their name, you can send it to anyone you know in the US, and they can call us, and we can transfer the warranty to them. They can then take care of the replacement, and send you the new device once they have it.
When you buy a device from LG in EU, warranty is available in every country in EU, contrary to devices from GPS.
Hope it helped

Beware Moto Care and 3rd Party Stores!

I bought my phone from Best Buy on Friday. This morning, I decided to check out Motocare to see if it was worth it. When I plugged in my serial number and IMEI to check eligibility, it said I was out of the 30 day purchase window. I called Motorola and was first told that phones bought from 3rd parties weren't valid for Motocare. After I pressed the issue, the dude told me that I basically needed to go to Best Buy and get the phone replaced for a newer phone. Somehow, when Best Buy purchases the phones, it enacts the 30 day window.
Soooooo... beware.
Talk to someone else. Not true with Amazon. I have Moto care. You got a dud of an answer. Best buy is one of their partners selling the phone.

Sounds like more great service from Moto. I really hope I don't need their services.

Called Motorola back, apparently, my IMEI number is registered as being out of warranty. They have to escalate the issue and call me back. I may only have the option to go back to Best Buy and exchange it. Bull****! I already set this baby up!
I have moto care, and got from best buy. Even had to use my best buy receipt to verify that it was within 30 days

I picked up mine off of Amazon and when I tried to buy moto care the day after I got it my IMEI number was stating my MXPE was out of warranty. I pressed the issue and they then said they have no idea why its like that but I was able to purchase moto care after they resolved it internally.
