[Q] Problem: Data on/off, on/off - HTC Sensation

Ive read about the connectivity issues with the HTC Sensation but it was in regards to slowness but my phone is acting crazy!!!
I went through a couple pages of thread and couldnt find anything in regards to data connectivity turning on and off over and over every couple of seconds.
I had it for 2 days with no problem, then ported over my old number (from t-mobile also) and my phone will not keep a data connection for more than a couple seconds on and off.
So i call T-mobile 3 times and did some research online about them changing the IMEI, and the sim card change and the "fix" but nothing seems to work. Just going in an out of 4g/2g nothing over and over and over and over. My wifi works fine though
Awesome phone, but I would love for the data to actually work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you done a factory reset? This will erase all data and apps and reset all things to factory settings. Are you on a custom rom?

Nope, just got the phone about 2 days ago, so i havent toyed around with it yet. I havent done a factory reset yet. I'll try that

Same issue, might have a defective phone or something.

turning flight mode on or switching between 3g and edge wont help and the only sollution is a soft reset
im right outside Dc
anyone else had issues or have an idea?
and ive already tried flashing back to att stock rom then reflashing my current one it didnt help
nobody? today was the 3rd day in a row i woke up to no service and had to reset
Have you tried changing radio?

[Q] mobile network disconnects and gets stuck "turning on"

Hello all, i have had my HTC sensation 4G (on Bell) for just over a month and a few days ago i started losing my connection to the network intermittently. Super annoying. Anyways i tried deleting some recent apps, figured that might be the issue but nope didnt help. It happened about 3 days in a row until i finally did a Factory Reset on the phone. It worked fine for a bit and then began stopping its connection to the network. Anyways super frustrating, i read some forums about tunring ciphering on and off, i tried that didnt work... needless to say im chapped.
Sorry for the length, but basically wondering if anyone knows how to fix this as its to late to return the phone and i have read through similiar forums on other phones
sorry to hear abt ur problem. i experienced the same thing but i think mine was triggered when i installed juice defender. it would turn off mobile data when the screen was off and when i went to use the phone, i didn't have a connection. i uninstalled the app and did a power cycle and that seemed to fix the problem after i went back into settings and checked the box to turn mobile data on.

This. The phone seems to have trouble (on the stock kernel at least) when switching data from wifi only to cell when cell is turned off. This happens to me when I use wifi calling. The solution I came up with was to connect to a wifi network then turn on mobile data in the quick settings manually. Works every time for me.
HTC really needs to fix this.
Under mobile network in wireless settings, enable always-on mobile data.
This somehow fix my connection whereby it hampers with JD app by not turning on when it needs to.
Thanks for the help guys. I did also recently install a "battery optimizer: in Droid Utilities or soemthing like that, although i did a factory reset. ill try and do a full battery cycle like you mentioned and see if that helps
so the phone worked fine on the weekend, and even friday and i thought it was cause i stopped using a non "htc" charger and got rid of Android Utilities. but now its Tuesday again and like clockwork at 1pm it just stops connecting, if i reset it i get network for a few minutes and then boom out again. Very frustrating mid work day to be without my phone for hours on end. Dont know what to do.
Are you using WiFi at the time it goes out?

No i havent been, not allowed to use private phones on the corporate wireless, but so far i havent found a problem with it switching between wi-fi and H+ while at home.
I have a feeling that Bell Canada may be updating the network or something in the area but they havent said anything both times i called and i asked. so who knows. Its just to much like clockwork for me to think it would be the phone, but who knows.
So i believe i have this figured. I talked to tech support once again yesterday and i point blank asked if it was network problems he said no (3rd person from bell to tell me this) then reccomended i get a sim card change if that didnt work he said send the phone in for repair.
So i went to the downtown bell store talked to the girl, explained why i needed to replace a brand new sim, and she told me that it was because Bell doesnt have towers downtown they share the Telus towers, however because of network bottleneck bell users get less priority and thus i cant use my phone... Not only is this unnacceptable for a phone company to not provide service DOWNTOWN in a major city but having denied it multiple times forcing me to troubleshoot for hours and spend almost an hour talking to bell representatives...
NOT HAPPY. Bell - 5 in my books, lucky my contract is up in a few months and i can switch to telus where i will be able to get signal downtown...

[Q] I need some major help

All of the sudden on Friday my Nexus S with OTA ICS started to drain the battery like crazy. I looked at my signal and where it says 3g it was grayed out, not blue like it should be. When it is grayed out I can't receive data. I took it to the Cincinnati Bell store in Kenwood and the guy tried everything except rebooting the phone. Changing the APN's and doing some other things. It worked for a while and now it doesn't. What should I do? Has anyone had this problem? It's making me mad. Oh also, it did it on my wife's phone at the same time too!
have you tried factory data reset?
backup your data first though
No not yet. It started working on mine again.
Not sure what is going on.
Maybe there is a problem with your carrier. As far as I know the phone uses a lot more battery when it tries to establish a connection, so that would fit.
Do you have someone who uses the same carrier or another phone so you can check if that problem only occurs on your phone?
Radio?
ota updates radio to KI1 I think

I factory reset my phone and put my carriers apn's in. data bars only light up blue after I turn phone off and on. What the heck is going on with that?
had a similar problem with my galaxy ace, rebooted the data would work for about 2-5 mins then cut out. I ended up getting a new sim card, and eventually a new phone. I reccomend flashing a new radio or trying a new sim card.

[Q] help. no data connection

ive been running eclipse v1.4 with pbj kernel with no problems til this morning. ive completely lost data connection. already tried restoring back to a previously working backup in cwm but no luck. and tried restoring to stock with odin and flashing different modems still no luck.
i had tried out jt's latest ics rom about a week ago but restored back with no problems and had data working.
please help. any ideas would be great. my only other thought is that the sim is bad.
Sim could be bad Verizon will give you one for free if that is the case or could just be another data outage try putting your phone on 3g only and see if you have data
Sent from my SCH-I510 using xda premium
its what i figure. ive already tried toggling back and forth between 3g and 4g to get the radio to reset. nothing. toggle data on and off. still nothing
Might be a short outage on Verizon also. Been out in multiple cities today for a couple of hours at a time. Prepping for the expansion this week.
Charge-TwStock 1.4 / Bought this app!
so ive pretty much covered every thing that i can do right now?
i guess i just get to sit and wait.

[Q] Can't make or receive calls

Started a couple days ago, using straight talk AT&T sim on my nexus 5, Data and text messages work fine, but whenever I try and make a phone call the signal drops completely and calls won't connect. People been telling me when they try to call it goes straight to voicemail. I'm running stock rom. Any suggestions? Straight talk and Google both with no help.
Have you tried a different sim card from like a friends phone to make sure its not the phone itself? You can also try to call ATT to see if its on their end.

Swapped sims with my wife. Mine worked on her phone hers didn't on mine. Think it might be a hardware issue on my phone and I got it on Craigslist so I think I'm screwed
Sounds like it definitely is a hardware issue now or something with the Sim tray. Sorry to break it to ya. Hopefully you can work something out with the guy on Craigslist.

Thanks. I have had the phone for about 4 months with no issues. I K of its not the sim tray because I still get data and texts and I can receive calls sometimes if I have dull reception somewhere. It just started all of a sudden, pretty frustrating
I just the same issue today as you. It was a ROM issue. I was on PA. I switched to aokp for now.

I had this issue on the stock, unrooted ROM after about 4 months as well. I think the cache partition was corrupted. You can try wiping this in recovery and see if the problem fixes itself.
I didn't think of just wiping the cache, so instead I did a factory reset by unlocking the bootloader and everything cleared up.
Now I wipe the cache partition roughly once a month and the phone runs like a champ. Also I use sdmaid to clear the device from junk that accumulates over time.

Thanks for the help, but I already did a factory reset with no success. Data works fine on LTE but if ibtryvswitching to 3g or 2g signal drops as well. If I have full signal it will connect but anything in less it doesn't connect the calls.
Flash factory images then.

This happened to me on my non rooted N5 with 4.4.4. Disabling Wifi and/or LTE sometimes allowed a single SMS to get through, but then the problem resumed.
I fixed it by booting into recovery and wiping the cache partition. For some reason that took a long time (about 5 minutes) but eventually it finished and when I rebooted it was all good.
I'd try the wiping the cache and reflashing the radio.
I had a similar issue first week of owning the phone any time I sent a text I lost service until I rebooted.
From what I've read some N5's don't like the 4.4.4 radios. Mine likes 4.4.4 but couldn't pick up a signal if it had a 50ft antenna with 4.4.3 radio.

I just had this almost exact same scenario. I started having problems with signal dropping using CM12 nightlies (late April 2015) then eventually I switched over to a NET10 because T mobile was not cutting it to begin with. After the problem persisted on an ATT Sim card with NET10, I started flashing different ROMs. Signal seemed to be more stable and everything was fine for a while. After a few days I was no longer able to make or receive calls.
Eventually I did a complete factory image (still didn't work)
Flashed a 4.4 radio image (didn't work immediately, but the next morning it seems to be working as of now)
I probably could have skipped the hours of trouble shooting if I would have (found this thread first) and just tried flashing different radio images. Or maybe it was the series of other steps combined...not really sure.
Good luck and hopefully this helps the next person going through this mess. Oh and don't event waste your time calling NET10/Straighttalk customer service.
*EDIT* Above did not solve my problem, I actually had to fix the physical radio connections which came loose.
same problem
Hey guys having the exact same issue. Dropped my phone hard and then all of a sudden I cannot make or receive ant calls with my carrier dialer. I can send and receive texts, use LTE data , Wi-Fi. When I place a call, it is silent for about 10 seconds then drops the call. When people call it is silent for 15 seconds, then voicemail.
Called google, said it is out of warranty and LG would have to repair it for $150 just to see the phone.
Have done a cache wipe and factory reset. Is this most likely a hardware issue that I need to open the back for ? Little bit of a tech noob but can work my way around things. Any help is super appreciated as I love my N5 32G and don't have the money.
Same issue that I had, just remove the back and reattach/secure the radio wiring. It's on the left side and rubs parallel to the battery. It was a petty quick and easy fix.

So I took the back off and looked at the cables and they were both connected. I took them off anyways and reconnected them. Didn't see anything surprising to my eyes at least. The only thing I did find out was that LTE is the only setting that I can't use data and texts on. 3G and 2G say no cellular network detected. Do I maybe need to replace the antenna cables ??

Hmmm. I don't think the cables would be bad. I would just make absolute sure that they are staying attached after you re-assemble your phone. I even put a small piece of tape over the end that I noticed was loose. If that doesn't work then I think we had different issues with the same symptoms.
I'm having this same issue. Three weeks now, unable to make or receive calls. SMS and data work fine. Wifi works. LTE works. When I switch to 3G or 2G there is no connection and T-Mobile doesn't appear in the list of networks. The SIM card works fine in another phone so it must be an issue with the device.
Tried everything on the software and settings side, flashed different ROMs, flashed different radios including stock. No change whatsoever. I completely disassembled and reassembled the phone. Nothing was loose or looked broken, all contacts seem to be making contact.
I do vaguely recall dropping the phone recently, so I guess that must have been it. The only other possible cause was that Google Play Services was auto-updated the day before I noticed the problem. Of course that is unlikely to be the cause but just mentioning it in case anyone else had this issue starting around Oct 23, 2015.
As much as I hate to do it, I guess I'll have to get a new phone. Just no other solution I can see unfortunately.
For anyone finding this posting through Google, currently there is no VoLTE (Voice over LTE) support in the Nexus 5 on T-Mobile. If that is available when you're reading this, then you might look into enabling VoLTE and seeing if you can make voice calls using that. Based on my reading it seems like VoLTE is a software update (perhaps requiring the provider to support the device as well), but the consensus seems to be that VoLTE on Nexus 5 on T-Mobile is unlikely to happen. But they support it on the Nexus 6, so maybe there is some way it can be done on the Nexus 5. Also Wifi Calling on T-Mobile is not available for the Nexus 5. The consensus there is that the stock Google/T-Mobile ROMs are unlikely to ever add Wifi Calling support for the Nexus 5, but perhaps CM 13 or Android Marshmallow do or will have Wifi Calling support built in, so there may be some possibility of getting Wifi Calling using those.
Did you try checking the cell antenna? That was my issue, I just tapped it back in place and my N5 has been fine ever since.

If you mean the ones with the long wires, then yes, I checked those. Actually I checked pretty much everything inside the phone. According to this excellent disassembly video: youtube dot com/watch?v=OPuCmfhzgbg , there are lots of antennas and antenna contacts. So many that he doesn't get to all of them until 20 minutes into the video. But still, I checked all of those and they looked ok. There must be some damage somewhere, just too small for me to spot. He also identifies "external test ports" for some of the antennas. I don't know how those are used or if they would be useful to debug this issue, but for anyone else experiencing this, you might try looking into those.
