Hello all,
This has been happening to me for about an hour now. I'm typically in good, constant 4G range. Is anyone else having data issues?

seems to be back now... let's see how long it lasts, lol
i dont even have 1X...around 2:30 PM went into a subway, turned on airplane mode...once i got out and put my phone back on....no data since...even now still.
I'm in north jersey about 45 mins from times square and i'm on 1x for over an hour now. Hope it's the network and not my phone haha. Sigh.

I was having issues with weak/terrible 4g in my area a few weeks ago. (lafayette Indiana) It was kind of an ongoing thing for awhile, but come to find out that verizon was actually working on the network to expand it across the entire city. Just what was going on in my area and possibly in yours.
just did a wipe on my phone...still no data.
my last resort maybe try different froyo radios? or wait??

No go with Froyo either... I am working out of our madison ave office for the day and I am stuck at 1X. I flashed back to Froyo in hopes to get data, but nothing.
EDIT: I just went down to the verizon store that we have on the street and their Charge has 4G, but their Thunderbolt has 1X...

I still have 4G now... it seems to be working ok.
Just had this same issue in Detroit. Was stuck on 1x for a couple hours. Tried restoring a few backups, rebooting, and factory-resetting + clean flash of BAMF, but none of that worked. It just came back up a couple minutes ago without me touching anything. My guess is VZW is making some adjustments.
Don't know if you were running gb or not, however, I ended up frying my sim card shortly after reverting to froyo. Just FYI. I had the same 1x issues.
I had 4g early in the day yesterday. I switched to 3g, and when i tried going back to 4g i got stuck on 1x ever since. 3g still works but if i try to get 4g i only get 1x.

if the sim card is done wouldnt you get no service at all, not just no data?
Aroiund midnight into the early morning is when VZW does upgrades/work/testing/etc... on their network. Most people are sleeping then, so they do it then, because that is when it will effect their customers the least.
my data finally came back!
i probably could of waited and this be a coincidence...but i turned off the phone, pulled the sim card, turned on the phone to let it tell me "no sim detected" then turned off and put sim back, booted up and i'm good again. whew.
edit: after boot, loaded a web browser, the 4G icon disappeared and my homepage wouldnt load =( UGH
I've had LTE all day (since about 7:30 AM this morning) so my hope is that they are going to do maintenance and restore LTE to my home area (have it strong at work...but they took it away from my house a few weeks ago.) I'm in the Lehigh Valley, PA.
I'm in Manhattan in the Flatiron area and the UES and have been on 4G all day. I'm on Froyo (BAMF Stripped) with the leaked radio fwiw.

I just tried this and it worked for me. Hopefully it sticks.
Had total data shut down last weekend in Brooklyn
It's fine now though.
Was able to hit 38mbps down after I got my 4G back

Im in the DC area and my phone wont connect to 4g for life of me (im in a strong 4g area). tried toggling. tried forcing LTE only(either 1x shows up or nothing at all). tried turning off data for 10 minutes. tried removing battery. tried full wipe (wiped three times cache, tried clearing davlik cache and battery stats...three times) reinstalling 1.7. I can still connect to 3g and 1x. Just no 4g
i was initially on bamf's 2.0b5 and noticed i couldnt get 4g. so i restored back to 1.7 and still no 4g. and no i didnt forget to flash the appropriate radios. i called verizon to see if there were issues with the network in the area and they came up with nothing. is my radio broken or am i missing something here?
Try starting the phone up once without the sim card in and then reinstall the sim card and see if it works.

Maybe take it in to vzw and have them test the sim. It could be fried.

whoa. i didnt know that could happen.
same thing with mine I am in Manasasso area and i get 4g off and on but cant get on the market or google, then i back to 1x so is it a phone issue or a system issue.
Well with me its not even on and off. I get nothing at all.

I'm sure this is a stupid question but it must be asked. Do you have the back of the phone off?
no such thing as a dumb question. just dumb people. hahaha im kidding. just trying to make light of the situation a little at least. i had a teacher that would always joke around like that so i had to say it.
but i digress, no the battery cover is not off. like i said, 3g and 1x works. just no 4g. can it be possible that just the 4g radio could be broken or if that were the case, i wouldnt have any data network at all?......
and as i was typing this message, my 4g connection had just connected. i think it has to do with the area where i live because I am now in my work building and it seems to be working fine now...i guess verizon lied to me... thanks for the suggestions. will post if things change.
Well, according to Verizon and their coverage map I'm supposed to get 4G at my house but I don't. Granted, I am on the edge. Now, here at work is a different story...solid 4G and it never looks for 3G.
Yeah, I am supposed to have 4g at where I live too. And I would get a strong signal too, which was why I was totally stumped when i couldnt get a 4g connection all of a sudden and verizon told me there were no problems with the network in the area.
this is happening to me as well. Phone keeps jumping between 1X and 3G all the time. I rarely get 4G anymore

I have tried 4 different radios as well as ROMs over this past week, no change on either
been 4 hours and phone hasnt dropped 4g since. even flashed back to bamf 2.0b6. I would get no signal on reboot, but toggling works like usual again. i guess where I live is having problems right now. will post when i get back.

This was happening to me as well. I would sometime get "4G", but it's fake 4G, as I would not be able to receive any downstream data, and connectivity would soon cut out. I've gone from GingerRemix 2.1 back -> 1.7 -> 1.63 -> stock -> stock unrooted, and could not get 4G back.
I decided to throw in the towel and go to Verizon (with GingerRemix 2.1 loaded), to compare. They definitely had 4G in store while I was carrying 3G around. I told the "device specialist", and without much questions, he popped in a new sim card for me. I had 4G then until I was about 4 steps out the door, and it would fall back to 3G. The dude and I spent the next hour swapping out another card, placing my sim card into a returned TBolt, but no luck. Finally, he did a factory reset on my phone. With no further luck, he resorted to ordering me a new one.
Still unsure what the issue is since he did give me a new SIM, and that SIM didn't work on another TBolt as well. We'll see whether the new one that comes in the mail tomorrow will fix the issue. I've since then reverted back to stock, since I need to mail my "broken" phone back to VZ, still no 4G.
I applied the update late Friday night and have not been able to get a 4G signal since. I'm normally in a strong 4G area and had not had any problems like this in the past except for the nationwide outage of course.
I've tried battery pulls, toggling LTE off and on and even did a factory reset. I then talked to tech support and they did a few things on their end that were unsuccessful. They then told me to get a new SIM card but once again, no luck.
Tech support is at a loss to explain what is going on and has escalated it to the higher level of support. It can take up to a week for them to get to a ticket so I guess I'm SOL until they take a look at it.
Anybody else having 4G problems since the update?
I haven't applied the update but have been stuck in 1X all day as well. I also pulled the battery, switched back and forth on Rev A, and toggled LTE. Nothing. Was going to revert back to a saved ROM next. My wife's phone happily receives 3G.
Did the update Friday night and 4G is as strong as ever.

My 4g is also working. What is weird is when I loaded a ROM I lost all signal. I loaded another Rom and nothing. I had to load radio file in hboot and I was back in business.
yea in such circumstances I had reflashed the radio and it works just fine, give it a shot
Received a replacement today, popped in the SIM card and am back to 4G. No idea what happened but the update is definitely to blame.
Yeah I got mess up too with the new update. Had to get a new simcard today and it work ok.

glad you got it worked out. I would have reflashed just the radio to try and fix it.
Having this issue as well since yesterday (7/11). Loaded Th3ory 5.0 with the newest radio to two different Tbolts (mine and a coworkers) and we're both experiencing the same issue. Flashed different versions of the radio, including the newest one again and had 4G come back for a short period of time before all service was gone again. Not sure if its an issue with Th3ory rom itself and since I cant post in that thread until I make a few more spam posts about nothing to get my post count up, I figured I'd post it here.
in Mid-town NYC where 4g has never been an issue before.
I should add that I wasn't rooted.
What happens if you're Rooted and running a custom ROM and you do a SIM Card pull? I really want to try this method, but i'm scared this will force my phone to download the new OTA update and that i'll either brick my phone or run into some serious issues.
I have had trouble for the last two days getting 4G, never had a problem before.
Orange County, CA area.
BAMF remix 1.8.6 w/2.5 radio.

don't think anyone else is having problems. Might be network issues in your area. Just flashed gingertheory 5.0 yesterday with the new stock 2.0 radio from the update and no problems.
I am having the same issues 4g is gone and only stuck on 1x
Make sure you check your sim and battery cover.

You dont need to pull out the sim card, pulling the battery is good enough. All it does is update the PRL.

I'm also off 4g since update... They are sending new sim card hope it works... OTA went w/o hitch... But no 4g... Would modem reset help?

I'm in the same boat.... I used to get 3-4 bars of 4G service at my home, now after the update I barely get 1 bar of 3G service. I have to force the phone to lock onto 4G by choosing LTE only.

I have a problem where my Charge thinks I am always roaming. One other person in posted in this forum with this problem but had no responses and he is a one post wonder. Has anyone else seen this problem. I have sent this device to Samsung twice and it has not been fixed. They will not replace it. Verizon did some stuff overt the phone that was of no help. This does not happen if I put my sim in a Thunderbolt and it does happen if I put another Sim into this device. It has to be the device. Any ideas?
i think that I ran into this problem just the other day have you figured out how to fix it.
I thought that the sim was supposed to automatically update roaming.
I have tried flashing Roms over top using odin cwm and nothing has helped, i don't know what else to do.
What are you running on it (roms, radios, etc) and what have YOU done to try fixing it?

I was on Gummy charge fe 1.9.1 and a few days ago it put me into roaming mode. all the areas where i would have perfect 4g or 3g reception say i am roaming. I tried reflashing the gummy rom in odin and in cwm then i tried getting the new leak to see if the newest modems would fix it. Niether of those worked so i tried flashing the EE4 stock rom and that didn't work either. I didn't want to keep flashing after that because i didn't want to end up ruining my phone any mor. I flashed each of them a few times to make sure it wasn't just an error.
I wiped all data did factory restore wiped cache dalvik and even battery(i know that didn't really do anything useful but thought i would try it).
I didn't know what else to do so i figured i would leave it on stock unrooted and see if anyone could help me here before i called up verizon.
I also tried taking the battery out and sim for about half an hour to see if that would do anything but it didn't help either.
Is "data network mode" on your power menu activated? May seem like a stupid question....Also, can you make calls?

Yes i can make and recieve calls also i can send and recieve text messages. I did find out that when i go into a 4g area that it will connect so i was wrong about that part. Earlier i just assumed the 4g would act the same I just wasn't in a 4g area for a couple days because I had off of work. But as soon as I leave the 4g area it says that I am roaming.
This info may help solve the problem and sorry about saying the 4g didn't work. you know what they say when you assume you just make an ass out of u and me.
I am thinking that it is just the 3g antenna going bad or something because I saw that was happening to some people but I am not sure if it is the same predicament.

Oh yeah and also the mobile network is on If that was the problem I would probably be really upset with myself that i didn't notice. Although I have seen it happen when i went to verizon to get a new sim card after something happened to mine I ended up waiting there for half an hour for them to get my phone working only to find out the reason they couldn't get the new sim working right was because they had the mobile data turned off.
Multiple Roms, stock and custom, gingerbread and froyo. kernels radios, you name it. No problem with voice. Shows data roaming all the time and will not get data unless I enable data roaming in the settings. If I pull my sim out and put it in my Thunderbolt there are no problems. I also tried a different sim and the problem was still there. I have already sent it to Samsung for this as well as talked to Verizon.
So I was recently having issues with my s3 running stock that it would turn talkback on every time i rebooted.
Naturally this made me really made so I decided to go FULL stock. back from the first stock odin package. (g1)
I had 3g after the process ended, so then I went and installed all the updates and my 3g worked through all of them....
However when I woke up this morning and went on my road trip to my dismay NONE of my mobile data worked no matter how I changed the settings (CDMA, GSM, ect).
Therefore during a few of the stops I went and flashed a custom recovery and rom. Still no data... Reflashed the f1 firmware... no data...
Then when I finally returned home I went and reset the phone through odin to the g1 again... and still NO DATA...
Please I could really use some help, I'm losing it and I have a big trip in 2 days and would REALLLY like this to be fixed

What does your imei read? Are you able to make phone calls?

I can make calls and receive texts fine it's just my data.

Pretty sure it's a hardware issue at this point.
Only thing I could possibly think of doing is opening your phone and tightening all the screws. Maybe it'll lock your antenna back in place.
Are you within a year of purchasing your phone? If you are it's still covered under your warranty.

Can you get wifi?
It could be that you don't have the correct APN selected if your problem is only the 3g &4g from VZW.
