So I came across a fix for push notifications on the official facebook app over at AndroidCentral:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/android-applications/109343-facebook-push-notifications-solved.html
Basically, these are the steps:
1. Untick "Notifications" in FB app settings
2. Sign in from a blackberry (or download a blackberry emulator from the RIM website and sign in from the emulator) and follow the setup
3. Log out of the blackberry facebook app
4. go into the FB app on your android phone and re-tick the "notifications" box in the settings menu. Notifications should work now!
Thank you for sharing this. It fixed it for me.

i've found that you have to go into FB from a computer and completely erase those messages from the archive for it to stop notifying you
I may have found a way around this.
After my attempts to fiddle with the BB emulator failed and I lost patience, I came across a post that suggested something I hadn't considered:
Set notification refresh to "never" and leave all the other notification stuff ticked. Supposedly that sets notifications to push mode.
It seems to work so far, I'll update once I get some more notifications. I've received one so far (not very popular on facebook)

Just checked my market updates, and there's an official Facebook update in the market (version 1.50)!
It allows push notifications aswell as Facebook chat!

This sucks... there are STILL NO notifications for comments, likes, wall posts etc... are you KIDDING ME????

I'm not getting instant notifications either. Chat will come up, but nothing in the realm of push notifications. tested sending from from my wifes account to mine.
chat works great, push notifications doesn't work. still have to check app just for the notifications :/
Great for letting us know
Okay, a question about chat since I've never had it before through Facebook. How is your online status "toggled" while using chat?
So if I open up the facebook app, and look at my news feed, am I now online? And to go offline, do I physically have to go into facebook chat and click "go offline"?
Also, if I want to be on chat, but have it run in the background, how can I confirm that it's running?
The entire user interface seems very poor. Wouldn't the ability to toggle chat on/off and easily access conversations and your status from the notification bar be essential in this type of app?
notifications works fine for me... kinda odd though since the messages and other stuffs still uses interval... only the posts and such has push.

According to the Facebook page of Facebook for android, push notifications is only supported with android 2.2+

Yeah, I see that. But there's no "Go online" option, is there? So how do you ever know if your online or offline? I don't know, I'm used to Go!Chat. There should be some clear toggle option.
How about for people that never want to appear online?
For example, I just opened up facebook on my phone and hit chat. I guess I'm now online? So now I hit android home. Am I still online? How is there anyway of knowing? Online until when?
It's completely non-functional as a useful mobile chat app.
[edit]
I've also tried multiple times to close "active conversations", and they keep showing back up on all refreshes. I was looking forward to native facebook chat, but I'll stick with 3rd party apps until they can improve this.
Chat and Push both are working flawlessly on my Droid 2. Rooted but running a pretty much stock OS.
About time they got this one out. Was doing this with a blackberry almost 2 years ago. I am now able to remove about 4 apps that I was running in order to cover my FB account while mobile.
Nice work Devs!
Push notification working good on my evo. I was also using f plus and had it set for five minutes and I'm getting notification quicker with the official app
I download it from market but installation failed. Did I do anything wrong or it is caused by android build on HTC HD2?
Long conversations
And still it is not possible to have long conversations. Quite annoying

so.. let me understand,
is push for notification, or just chat?
I found a fix that made it possible for push notifications to come through in realtime (for comments, tags etc.). I heard about that BlackBerry simulator solution and this is what i did : I downloaded a BB simulator (for 9300 series of phones or something...basicaly BB 7.0 or so). I logged out the FB app on Android, then i fired up the BB simulator/emulator and i I entered my facebook credentials in the BB's FB app and enabled "push notifications" and i also disabled all email notifications within the app. After that i logged-out and so FB push notifications started coming
Try it ,it
through immediately on my Samsung Galaxy
freakin works! P.s.: i would love to know if it worked for you. And another thing, don't forget to re-login on the FB app on the Nexus and ENABLE NOTIFICATIONS in the Options menu (the first checkmark box just under "refresh interval". Every other things like Event Invite,Messages and Friend Requests don't come through via Push but via refresh interval. Everything else will work through PUSH

Worked for me on GB working for me with original oneclick ics rom. Not sure what your issue or what rom you are running. maybe one that deleted the sns .apks needed for this?
I keep getting "2 New Messages" for the past like 3 days and when I click on the notification there aren't any, then like 10 mins later the notification comes back again lol
They've never worked since I got the phone
Back I'm my htc inspire days we found out if you log into your facebook account on a blackberry and enable push notifications, then fire your android device back up. It worked well for a lot of poeple

i hope no need to push fb notofication.. but not really
sorry bad english
I haven't used fb lately. But I did get an event invite notification last night. I find sometimes they don't work onedy yet will work the next. I think it may be issues on their end. Try clearing the apps data and login again if not give it a few days and see if they come back.
I dis do the blackberry trick mentioned above on my account though.
To get Facebook push notifications to work you need to set your refresh interval to "Never" and if that doesn't work, leave it at never and do the blackberry trick.
-Wipe Data/Cache of Facebook on your phone and stay signed-out
-Download the Blackberry emulator from your phone
-Log in to Facebook on the emulator and allow the permissions for the Blackberry Emulator
-Check your account from the PC and make sure somewhere under one of your apps it says it's using a Facebook for Blackberry
-Close it all and log back in using your Android Facebook and push notifications should work.
They're hit or miss, they work like 90% of the time it seems.
where can i find this spoken of blackberry emulator on my phone?
It's worked for me on wifi but not on regular data, very sketchy on the regular data connection.

I just fixed my facebook notifications.
I only got notifications about events but never about posts.
I first cleared cache. That didn't work. I then logged out of the facebook app and relogged and viola it all notifcations work again.
The notification interval is irrelevant btw. I tried never, 30 min, 1 hr. It doesn't matter.
This worked for me so I hope this works for you.
Thank me if it works please xD
Facebook notification has never worked for me. My wife has the Note and it worked for her for the first week then suddenly it stopped. On GB it didn't work and same for ICS no matter which rom you get it will not work. Someone on here mentioned the Blackberry Emulator trick, that is about the only way the notifications will come to your phone. A friend of mine did it in the past and it has worked for him ever since. I will be trying it as soon as I can find the Emulator from my phone which I can't seem to figure out how to download it.

Can you give us a link from where we can download this BlackBerry Emulator?
Thanks
Somewhere on the FB website under security is a section showing authorized or attached devices. Each rom flashed adds another device to the list. Clear out that list entirely, uninstall FB from phone, reboot phone re download FB from market and install. Reboot BEFORE setting up FB login. Once rebooted log into FB again on phone and change the default notificagon sound to your choice and notifications should work again for posts, replies rcomments, etc.

My push notifications are working fine (Superlite 5.0) but Facebook sync is going bonkers though. It won't sync with existing contacts only, so it's either all Facebook contacts or none at all. A bit annoying.

I chose Torch 9850 and OS 7.1.
Hello, im loving my OP7 Pro so far - sadly i got one issue. I don't receive Notifs from Gmail... i enabled them all (the app does not appear in battery optimization so i cannot disable that). i got no issues with other apps. Im running out of idea.. i found a topic about the 6 and 5T but didnt deliver and sultion... anyone got the same problem?
i only see the mails if i actually open gmail.
I had the same issue with Gmail, I'm a Google apps user so have a service agreement with them, they managed to fix it at their end.
If your issue is the same as mine then you're Gmail notifications will not work on other phones too.
If they do work on other phones then you're issue is different to the one I had.
I hope this may help.

hello, thanks for your quick reply,
they worked fine on my huawei mate 20 x before.
so i guess the error is on a secret / hidden setting i cannot find
It's the deep sleep Android goes to. It's not showing in the battery optimization bc GMAIL is a system app.
Fix 1, Uninstall system GMAIL app with Titanium backup "root required" and install from the app store. It will show up in battery optimization then add to no optimize.
Fix 2, run "dumpsys deviceidle disable" w/o quotes in Terminal Emulator under SU "Root required" or add in into script and have execute at boot.
Fix 1 and 2 both worked for me before.
I installed magisk module, OxygenOS Gmail Battery Fix. It works for me so far.

It also doesn't work if I keep Gmail open and just turn the screen off.
So I basically need to root it to get notifications? Seems rather unintended no?
You'll need root to turn off Android doze or uninstall Gmail as a system app and reinstall as user app. That's the nature of the beast.
Sent from my GM1917 using Tapatalk
You can do it without root as well: Using Nova Launcher (or another launcher which can create activity shortcuts), long press on homescreen, click on widget and create an activity for: Settings -> Battery optimization (.Settings$HighPowerApplicationsActivity), open it, set to "all Apps" with the dropdown menu and it will show all Apps including system Apps. Then choose "not optimized" for Gmail

That's another issue then if it doesn't notify you if you send an email shortly after turning off the screen. Do you get notifications when the screen is on?
I found a great substitute for Gmail. Try Edison Email on the Play store. Notifications work great, and app is very customizable.

I have exactly the same issue...
Same here. With activty launcher from Nova i can change Gmail to ''dont optimize''. But it will reset after restart...
Go to Settings / Accounts / Google / Account sync
Disable and reenable sync for Gmail.
This fixes it for me every time. Issue typically comes back after some Gmail updates (not after all updates).

nope doesnt work either
Trust me when I say this won't work, it took Google 2 weeks and lots of bug reports for them to find the issue assuming it's the same as mine.
Please confirm you still receive notifications on a different phone.
If not like I had, Google technical support had to fix something there end.
Having the same issue on my S10+ .. I receive some notifications on one Gmail account - but it's hit/miss on the rest.
