[FIX] Facebook Push Notifications - Android General

I found a fix that made it possible for push notifications to come through in realtime (for comments, tags etc.). I heard about that BlackBerry simulator solution and this is what i did : I downloaded a BB simulator (for 9300 series of phones or something...basicaly BB 7.0 or so). I logged out the FB app on Android, then i fired up the BB simulator/emulator and i I entered my facebook credentials in the BB's FB app and enabled "push notifications" and i also disabled all email notifications within the app. After that i logged-out and so FB push notifications started coming
Try it ,it
through immediately on my Samsung Galaxy
freakin works! P.s.: i would love to know if it worked for you. And another thing, don't forget to re-login on the FB app on the Nexus and ENABLE NOTIFICATIONS in the Options menu (the first checkmark box just under "refresh interval". Every other things like Event Invite,Messages and Friend Requests don't come through via Push but via refresh interval. Everything else will work through PUSH

New Facebook 15/12/10

This sucks... there are STILL NO notifications for comments, likes, wall posts etc... are you KIDDING ME????
i like chat feat. but still no notifictionas
guys what do you mean no notifications? mine does have notifications.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I'm not getting instant notifications either. Chat will come up, but nothing in the realm of push notifications. tested sending from from my wifes account to mine.
chat works great, push notifications doesn't work. still have to check app just for the notifications :/
Great for letting us know
Okay, a question about chat since I've never had it before through Facebook. How is your online status "toggled" while using chat?
So if I open up the facebook app, and look at my news feed, am I now online? And to go offline, do I physically have to go into facebook chat and click "go offline"?
Also, if I want to be on chat, but have it run in the background, how can I confirm that it's running?
The entire user interface seems very poor. Wouldn't the ability to toggle chat on/off and easily access conversations and your status from the notification bar be essential in this type of app?
notifications works fine for me... kinda odd though since the messages and other stuffs still uses interval... only the posts and such has push.

Yeah, I see that. But there's no "Go online" option, is there? So how do you ever know if your online or offline? I don't know, I'm used to Go!Chat. There should be some clear toggle option.
How about for people that never want to appear online?
For example, I just opened up facebook on my phone and hit chat. I guess I'm now online? So now I hit android home. Am I still online? How is there anyway of knowing? Online until when?
It's completely non-functional as a useful mobile chat app.
[edit]
I've also tried multiple times to close "active conversations", and they keep showing back up on all refreshes. I was looking forward to native facebook chat, but I'll stick with 3rd party apps until they can improve this.
Chat and Push both are working flawlessly on my Droid 2. Rooted but running a pretty much stock OS.
About time they got this one out. Was doing this with a blackberry almost 2 years ago. I am now able to remove about 4 apps that I was running in order to cover my FB account while mobile.
Nice work Devs!
Push notification working good on my evo. I was also using f plus and had it set for five minutes and I'm getting notification quicker with the official app
I download it from market but installation failed. Did I do anything wrong or it is caused by android build on HTC HD2?
Long conversations
And still it is not possible to have long conversations. Quite annoying

Facebook Push Notifications for Devices NOT running 2.2

*****EDIT 2/25/2011*****
VERY SORRY for the delay in editing this post and/or replying to the comments!
I have had some very serious family problems in the last couple months and during this, didn't renew the lease with the server i was renting. I am currently looking to buy a server (or share one with any other dev??) that i can use to run this App. It requires its own server due to the amount of requests it needs to keep thousands of users up to date with all their accounts and push messages to your devices.
I am EXTREMELY sorry that I had not been able to come on and post this, but in the last 24 hours I have received TONS of emails stating you're getting an error signing up. Thats because The server isnt responding anymore to requests, I apologize.
I will have this fixed hopefully soon and also incorporate many more social media outlets into the app that don't currently have push updates.
Again, SORRY for the delay in updating this. I hope to have a new Beta out soon.
Thanks!
*******End Edit******
Hey Guys..
This is our first post to XDA, and we are glad to be here.
We are a new Android development team, Atomic Pineapple. We wanted to let you guys know we have an app in Beta that brings push notifications for Facebook, and Twitter (this week for twitter) for ALL versions of Android. The app is called "Pushee"
Our plans are to grow the app into a full service push notification tool, including all the most used social platforms, FB, twitter, 4square, etc. We also have plans to bring push notifications for all POP3 email for non Gmail accounts as there is currently nothing for this. All these are in the works and will be integrated into pushee in the next few weeks.
If you want to get the Beta for Pushee just go to pushee(dot)atomicpineapple(dot)com and download it. Sorry we couldn't post a link because we are new users lol.
It will be out of Beta within a week or two and on the Market with a 7 Day Free Trial, and then for sale at 1.49.
Any comments on adding services to have notifications pushed are welcome!
Thanks!
Justin,
Atomic Pineapple.
I'm going to test it right now and it seems to be awesome !
I'm loving it so far. Few things..
1) Icon, I'm sure this will get changed soon. Just checking
2) When tapping on the notification for new items for Facebook, it wanted to open my browser. I would rather have it open my Facebook app. For example, when I see I have 2 new friend requests, I would like it to go to my Friends section of the Facebook app. Possible? =D
Also, do I have to add this to my task killer for it to monitor my Facebook?

Not sur but i think you must add this to your Task Killer
Waiting for the twitter option !
Looks great so far! One question, when we say "yes" when application asks for "exit?", are we gonna receive notifications?
And one addition, charset seems not "utf", or whatever (im new in android world), when we have non-english characters in the account name, it appears as a "□".
I just installed it, so im still waiting to see if i get a notification within 60 minutes (logged on gf's account and posted on one of my own comments)..
Bug/problem ->
Since i have an x10 mini pro, i have a small display - it is really hard to setup Pushee on this phone, as text is cluttered all over the screen, and email input is behind 'explanation text' etc.
Besides that, because of the MANY MANY permissions pushee needs, it was almost impossible (i got lucky) to press 'accept' to those permissions on facebook popup.
I've set facebook to 'never' update - i assume that is correct? As the Pushee servers will do the checking.
- If this app works & it enters the facebook app instead of the browser - then i'll definatly buy it - Even though 1.49$ seems like a bit much for a 'notification application'..
This app looked really promising.. but..
After a few hours, spamming myself with notifications and messages on facebook - I still didn't get any on the phone.
Installation/Configuration text is all messed up, and its hard to configure on an x10 mini pro.
Tried reinstalling - Cant create an account with the same email - Fair enough... But i cannot login to an existing account, the button simply doesn't work.
Sure this is a beta, and not alpha?

[Guide] Fix Facebook Push Notifications

So I came across a fix for push notifications on the official facebook app over at AndroidCentral:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/android-applications/109343-facebook-push-notifications-solved.html
Basically, these are the steps:
1. Untick "Notifications" in FB app settings
2. Sign in from a blackberry (or download a blackberry emulator from the RIM website and sign in from the emulator) and follow the setup
3. Log out of the blackberry facebook app
4. go into the FB app on your android phone and re-tick the "notifications" box in the settings menu. Notifications should work now!
Thank you for sharing this. It fixed it for me.
Sent from my sexy assistant. (AMOLED HTC Incredible)
sweet! definantly gonna try this out
It worked! Wow I definitely appreciate my incredible a lot more now
welcome. i was ecstatic when it started working
This worked for me I used an emulator

i've found that you have to go into FB from a computer and completely erase those messages from the archive for it to stop notifying you
I may have found a way around this.
After my attempts to fiddle with the BB emulator failed and I lost patience, I came across a post that suggested something I hadn't considered:
Set notification refresh to "never" and leave all the other notification stuff ticked. Supposedly that sets notifications to push mode.
It seems to work so far, I'll update once I get some more notifications. I've received one so far (not very popular on facebook)

Facebook push notifications for i9003?

Why isnt there no push notifications for facebook? Anybody having this problem?
Ive KPH, and ive read that the Facebook for Android app have push notifications. I cant configure that on mi i9003.
Thanks
Make sure under settings "accounts & sync" facebook sync is turned on. And i recommend using friendcaster for android instead. the original facebook app is a buggy POS
There are also a couple of apps that only deal with notifications: I personally use MB Notifications for Facebook because it has more features, and don't need all the other stuff FriendCaster has
I used Friendcaster but it was drinking my battery, and it doesnt have push notifications. Im testing MB Notifications right now, with the Facebook for Android app.
I loved Friendcaster, but it has issues with messages (they didnt show), and for some actions it open the browser instead.
The problem I have with MB Notifications is that I didnt check the "event notifications" and it shows them anyway.
Push notifications are the ones that the server is who call the client right? so the phone doesnt need to be checking for notifications with some periods of time? So push notifications saves battery?
Thanks
Facebook for Android supports push notifications, but there's no way to enable them from its settings. The only way to enable them is to use a BlackBerry (I know, it's stupid). When you enable push notifications from a BlackBerry, then they will be enabled on Android too.
Fortunately if you don't have a BlackBerry you can download a simulator (Windows only, you can download it from blackberry.com/developers/downloads/simulators [sorry, I can't post link]) and login in to Facebook from the simulator using Facebook app which is already installed.
Then go in Facebook app settings (on your Android phone, I think it's better to logout and then re-login before doing this) and choose as update interval "never".
From now on you'll receive instant notifications on your Android phone.

I am i just still see alot of threads with people asking how to resolve the issue, and alot of fixes require you to have a blackberry but mine is unique because you can use a emulator that alot of people dont realise you can
I Originary posted about it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1383672
