I ROM is not installed, when you switch displays in FASTBOOT! PD58IMG.zip can not install says in red letters Fail-PU ...
in my opinion I have with HBOOT 1.20.0000 problems. because I started to install automatic ROM ICS 4.0 with the file PD58IMG.zip, there is not the end everything was installed, some written as FAIL-PU.
I've read that if you try to flash the firmware update for hboot 1.20 if you don't have supercid some files may fail to update

tell me how to update? I'm from Russia, it is very difficult to translate and communicate. I ask how you can in a simplified form.
Give us some background info. Was your phone rooted in the first place? Did you follow the path s-off then clockwokmod recovery then root then supercid? What did you do before this happened? Did you try to install the latest RUU 3.06 where hboot 1.20 comes? We are happy to help but it's not easy trying to solve something without some info

phone s-off, root, super cid, it all started after trying to flash (Sensation ICS 3.06.401.1 - Rooted PG58IMG.ZIP) all the checkboxes have been installed in the firmware partition except system and even some I do not remember. After re-flashing, all the ticks became Fail-PU.

so, first, did you check the md5 checksum to see if your download wasn't corrupted? Some times I use winmd5sum portable because I don't need to install it in my computer. http://download.cnet.com/WinMd5Sum-Portable/3000-2381_4-75099291.html
You noticed that you are flashing a rom for the sensation not the sensation xe (this one is the 401.101) some differences are discussed here but is an advanced topic.
if everything is ok this is how you install a pg58img.zip using the bootloader
place pg58img.zip in sd card
turn off phone if you are not sure the phone is really off take battery out and put it back
press and keep holding VOL DOWN
press and keep holding POWER until you enter the bootloader
pg58img is automatically detected and you are asked if you want to update
after installation of all packages is finished reboot your phone
I was checking the pg58img and seems to be the RUU: the firmware update plus the rooted stock rom and the custom recovery.
although s-off and supercid are persistent and not modified with this firmware update your hboot 1.2000 is now locked and you may not be able to use fastboot commands or install some packages like radios (maybe that's happening to you when it says fail-pu)
to regain unlocked hboot you can use the tools at htcdev to unlock hboot 1.20 or you can download the hboot 1.17 onlocked from here
before you do that don't forget to delete the pg58 img that you hace in your sd card and then place this one in its place.
cheers

it failed when trying to flash the recovery which is custom and no stock. try flashing the firmware update only without recovery or rom. you can find it here, that's what i did first flashed the firmware only and after that a rom (android revolution 5.0.2 currently)
anyway, I was talking to some other guys and if noting works you can download a shipped RUU (there's a collection here). Run the exe file and you'll finish with a stock gingerbread system. You'll have to root and install custom recovery and the usual again. If after that you still feel like trying ICS install the firmware update only, not the one you tried.
cheers
Yet another example of someone jumping blind into something they don't understand. If you don't know how to reverse the rooting process you should not even consider rooting in the first place.
There should be some sort of test before rooting information is given out - would stop n00bs getting themselves up **** creek

Ok i have been going over every inch of the forums and all over the internet and i really run out of ideas.
i have a HTC Desire S on 2.3.5 with HBoot 2.00.0002, ive used HTCdev to unlock the bootloader and used superoneclick to root my phone (sort of) but my phone is stuck with S-ON.
i have tried everything i have found but the bootloader is stuck on the stock one, i have Rom Manager on my phone and ive tried the 4EXT but because of the phone being stuck on S-ON when it goes to the recovery part it errors out and i have to jack the battery out to get it to restart.....
HELP please :3
First your rom is rooted but system is not. You can install custom recovery , but use fastboot to flash it and all will works fine. For this problem when you go recovery you don't need to pull battery never pull it for this phone. Press volume up+volume down and then press power button and keep all pressed and phone will reboot normal

@RageReaper
Not really sure whats going on, cause you are confused and should do MORE reading.
Root is not the same as s-off, so look into that.
You unlocked your bootloader using HTCdev, thus you are still s-on and stock hboot but now can root your phone, have a custom recovery and flash roms. - NORMAL!!!!
Try flash the recovery in fastboot.
Just to be sure your hboot does say UNLOCKED at the top right?
yes it says its UNLOCKED but im trying to S-off my phone so i can make a copy of my OS so if something goes wrong i can always go back to it
so whats the best way to S-off my desire s?, Thank you in advance and to the people that will help
@RageReaper
You can do that once you install a custom recovery. Nandroid backup..
Ive managed to root my older android phones but this is really starting to bug me I can't get nandroid to work because after I used superoneclick I installed Rom manager to make a back up and it did the clockwork mod but the recovery part of my hboot errors out this is why I'm asking for help because I think I dropped the ball on this one

It doesn't matter if the guides are talking can't s-off phone's and different hboot's, they will work still.
Do the following,
-Turn off fastboot menu/settings/power/
fastboot (on the phone)
-Turn on USB debugging menu/Settings/
Applications/Development/ USB debugging (on
the phone)
Okay, get into fastboot, boot into your hboot (switch phone off and the
press power+vol down)
Plug your phone in,
Now your phone is plugged in and in hboot, press the power button once, it'll say something like fastboot usb.
Follow the link I gave you now.

yeah i can confirm this works i did it using the same way.
Seeing as there are FAR too many stupid people on this forum I'm going to make this REALLY simple...
*** NOTE*** - This guide assumes you are already S-OFF. If you are not (e.g. 100% stock) then you WILL have to run Revolutionary to get S-OFF before continuing
Original Sensation:
Firstly - you HAVE to be running 1.50.401.1 to use this OTA file. If you're on ANY other build then don't ask about flashing it as I WILL report you to Mods for being a dumbass.
You also have to be 100% stock (e.g. NOT rooted). If you are running a custom ROM you HAVE to use the 1.50.401.1 RUU to get back to stock but you HAVE to leave the phone S-OFF. CID can be whatever you had if you are running x.xx.401.x when you got it new but if you've flashed the RUU coming from another build then set yours to HTC__001 before starting
1. Download the 3.32.401.5 OTA file from HTC - http://fotadl.htc.com/OTA_PYRAMID_I...1.50.401.1_release_252072fll6erqo75dsziua.zip. You do NOT have to rename the file
2. Copy the file to the root of your SD card
3. Turn your phone off and turn it back on whilst holding the volume down button. If the HBOOT menu doesn'y appear then you need to turn off fast boot in the Settings>Power menu
4. Select 'Recovery' from the menu to enter the stock Recovery. If CWM loads up, stop now and flash the 1.50.401.1 RUU
5. When you get to the screen with the red ! on it, hold volume up and press power. It will say 'cant open cache/recovery/command' and then bring up the recovery menu
6. Select the option to apply an update from your SD card and then select the OTA file
7. Wait the 10 minutes or so for it to flash
8. When prompted, reboot the phone
9. You're now running stock ICS 4.0.3 with Sense 3.6
Sensation XE:
Firstly - you HAVE to be running 1.73.401.4 to use this OTA file. If you're on ANY other build then don't ask about flashing it as I WILL report you to Mods for being a dumbass.
You also have to be 100% stock (e.g. NOT rooted). If you are running a custom ROM you HAVE to use the 1.73.401.4 RUU to get back to stock but you HAVE to leave the phone S-OFF. CID can be whatever you had if you are running x.xx.401.x when you got it new but if you've flashed the RUU coming from another build then set yours to HTC__001 before starting
1. Download the 3.32.401.105 OTA file from HTC - http://fotadl.htc.com/OTA_PYRAMID_L...73.401.4_P_release_246589q3t6rh79ci68p68k.zip.
If CWM loads up, stop now and flash the 1.73.401.4 RUU
9. You're now running stock ICS 4.0.3 with Sense 3.6 and Beats Audio
Now, this can't really be made ANY clearer. If you can't follow this then you should walk away now as I will not tolerate anyone asking something that is already stated above. If I have actually missed something then please PM me - do NOT post it here in this thread as it's a reference thread
*** EDIT: I've attached the stock recovery taken from the 1.50.401.1 RUU. It's the same as the XE one so will work for all users ***
haha lol, i see you used your "anger" to help other people and make this world better
Great job, this should clear up the ICS OTA thread!
And its as easy and as simple as that... , i will say tho that when i downgraded from ICS custom rom and was flashing 1.73.401.4 i did by downgrade by PG58IMG.zip on sdcard, when it came to the system.img to be flashed it looks like it has trouble , instead of the side column being blue , mine went red / black 3 or 4 times in a row... still flashed all good tho..
You can do it that way too but I'm guessing n00bs would have a nightmare and having to write up a guide on extracting the PG58IMG.zip from the RUU is a ballache
Might do it, though, but this thread isn't about flashing an RUU - it's for flashing the OTA over the top of it
Very noob here so be gentle -ish.
Thanks for the guide very clear, one small question if the volume rocker of my sensation has fallen off can I still use this method?
Many thanks for that very precise and clear guide, Eddy.
I guess now everyone should be able to perform that update.
May I raise a question in regard to restoring system settings and installed apps?
Obviously, when flashing the original RUU to get the phone into the right status for flashing the update all system settings and individualy installed apps will be gone.
How do I proceed to get a restorable backup?
Should I just make a full backup using e.g. Titanium Backup before I flash the original RUU and will it be possible to restore it later on the updated ICS device?
I am not sure if its that easy, since as far as I know Titanium needs a rooted device to work, right?
This would mean I need to root the ICS device before I will be able to restore?
Will the backup be compatible with ICS so that all system data and apps will be there again?
Would be great if you could provide me with some guidance on this question as well.
Many thanks in advance.

You need to take the battery out, then put it back in to get into recovery first off. Second off the reason that the phone is booting up in one second is because you have Fast Boot enabled, so your phone is not really turning off it is actually going into a "Sleep Mode" hence how it can boot up so fast.
Thank you EddyOS. Followed your guide and now I'm running ICS! It's way faster.

Hi. I've read whole tutorial. My phone is a Sensation with stock XE rom 1.73.401.4, not root, S-Off and HTC__001 CID. I can't apply update from recovery, on verifying system it fails on something like "/system/blah/blah/mpdecision...". I applied kernele patch to 1.5ghz when I installed stock rom and I think this is the reason. Any idea?
So today i rooted my sensation and everything was running perfectly until i downloaded a rom on rom manager. When the rom finished (miui) i clicked on it and a pre-installation window came up. It gave me 3 options, back up existing rom, wipe data and cache and wipe dalvik and all i checked was wiped dalvik. Now when the when it boots up it just shows me a white screen with the htc logo on it then turns black and repeats again. Please i need help urgently!!!!!

1. Remove your sdcard (because you have a PG58IMG on it and I don't know which one).
2. Boot into bootloader and connect with adb and enter the following:
Code:
adb devices

3. Now using a card reader on your computer, delete your current PG58IMG (because I don't know what you have on there).
Download the 3.32 firmware from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412618
Download the superwipe***.zip from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098849
Place them on the root of your sdcard and put the card back into your phone.
4. Now boot into bootloader (power/volume down) and wait for it to detect the firmware. (volume up to accept) wait for it to flash and then press power to reboot when it prompts.
5. Power off, remove sdcard and delete your PG58IMG on computer, re-insert and boot into bootloader and select recovery.
Select and flash the superwipe***.zip
Select and flash your MIUI ROM
***NOW REBOOT INTO YOUR NEW MIUI***

I have s-off and revolutionary but when i do a root check on Root check basic i says sorry this device does not have proper root access. I was wondering why i do not have root access. thanks
If you are installing a custom ROM, such as ARHD, you are automatically rooted.
Why not do this?
Rom go on past step 5 on my post and flash a new Rom after update your not rooted just s-on

Hi Guys, hoping I can get some help.
I've been working on a sensation but it's got me a bit stumped. The phone is sticking on the boot screen and I cant access the recovery. I've tried taking the battery and then holding down the volume key whilst powering back up. I've tried using KGS utility but it cant find the phone. It's been a while since I have fiddled about with phones so I might be missing something but if I could just get back in the recovery I'm pretty sure I could sort it out.
Any help is gratefully appreciated
Hi there can some other issues. The first, what os you're using, I mean hboot version? The problem is that every android os version needs its own hboot. One case of solving is to install a clear ROM, but you'll loose all your info. Another is to install just hboot that supports yous OS. You'll have to find it out.
Update of hboot runs from windows commander, you can download it from internet easily. If you're using mac, sorry cannot tell anything.
Good luck.

I downloaded the recovery image and put in the android folder with the fastboot and adb etc but on step four when it says 'click on Open command window here' I don't have that option, maybe because I'm on win xp? I can drop the recovery file on CMD window though and get the following,
C:\Android\recovery.img
Cheers

Yeah I've shift and right clicked the the white space in the folder but no option to 'Open command window here'
I'll google it to see if its because it's win xp.
And yeah sorry I should have explained a bit more in detail but I opened the command prompt box (cmd.exe) and then the recovery image that I downloaded from step 2, I just dragged and dropped it onto the command prompt, if that makes sense :good:
followed step 2 but still unable to get access to recovery
None of the sotware I'm using to recover the phone is finding the device..bricked?
Before doing anything try going to bootloader first
Power off phone.. Remove battery..reinsert it..Then hold vol down + power for some time..It will take you to bootloader
Then post all the details bootloader shows here.. Then we can continue further

I finally managed to get in the recovery by using the volume down key and power button. I then used super wipe to clean things up. Then I tried to restoring to my original ROM that I'd backed up but I'm still getting stuck on the boot screen. So I then tried to get access to the recovery again using the same method, volume down and the power button, but it wont access it again

froyo rom?on sensation?
nevermind.the problem is when you are flashing a new rom it doesn't flash the boot partition by itselF(S-ON devices)
the only thing you have to do is download an ICS rom(because of your hboot version you have 3.32fw or3.33fw)
enable smartflash from recovery and then flash the rom
froyo it can't be run in that fw version not even GB.
cool - thanks for the advice. I'll give it a go now

I've flashed a ICS rom and the phone is now booting up fine. So I can I go ahead and put on the ROM I want or do I have to enable smartflash?
If your S on, yes you must enable smart flash. Every time you flash a rom. Best wishes
