[GUIDE] Using the ICS OTA files - HTC Sensation

Seeing as there are FAR too many stupid people on this forum I'm going to make this REALLY simple...
*** NOTE*** - This guide assumes you are already S-OFF. If you are not (e.g. 100% stock) then you WILL have to run Revolutionary to get S-OFF before continuing
Original Sensation:
Firstly - you HAVE to be running 1.50.401.1 to use this OTA file. If you're on ANY other build then don't ask about flashing it as I WILL report you to Mods for being a dumbass.
You also have to be 100% stock (e.g. NOT rooted). If you are running a custom ROM you HAVE to use the 1.50.401.1 RUU to get back to stock but you HAVE to leave the phone S-OFF. CID can be whatever you had if you are running x.xx.401.x when you got it new but if you've flashed the RUU coming from another build then set yours to HTC__001 before starting
1. Download the 3.32.401.5 OTA file from HTC - http://fotadl.htc.com/OTA_PYRAMID_I...1.50.401.1_release_252072fll6erqo75dsziua.zip. You do NOT have to rename the file
2. Copy the file to the root of your SD card
3. Turn your phone off and turn it back on whilst holding the volume down button. If the HBOOT menu doesn'y appear then you need to turn off fast boot in the Settings>Power menu
4. Select 'Recovery' from the menu to enter the stock Recovery. If CWM loads up, stop now and flash the 1.50.401.1 RUU
5. When you get to the screen with the red ! on it, hold volume up and press power. It will say 'cant open cache/recovery/command' and then bring up the recovery menu
6. Select the option to apply an update from your SD card and then select the OTA file
7. Wait the 10 minutes or so for it to flash
8. When prompted, reboot the phone
9. You're now running stock ICS 4.0.3 with Sense 3.6
Sensation XE:
Firstly - you HAVE to be running 1.73.401.4 to use this OTA file. If you're on ANY other build then don't ask about flashing it as I WILL report you to Mods for being a dumbass.
You also have to be 100% stock (e.g. NOT rooted). If you are running a custom ROM you HAVE to use the 1.73.401.4 RUU to get back to stock but you HAVE to leave the phone S-OFF. CID can be whatever you had if you are running x.xx.401.x when you got it new but if you've flashed the RUU coming from another build then set yours to HTC__001 before starting
1. Download the 3.32.401.105 OTA file from HTC - http://fotadl.htc.com/OTA_PYRAMID_L...73.401.4_P_release_246589q3t6rh79ci68p68k.zip.
If CWM loads up, stop now and flash the 1.73.401.4 RUU
9. You're now running stock ICS 4.0.3 with Sense 3.6 and Beats Audio
Now, this can't really be made ANY clearer. If you can't follow this then you should walk away now as I will not tolerate anyone asking something that is already stated above. If I have actually missed something then please PM me - do NOT post it here in this thread as it's a reference thread
*** EDIT: I've attached the stock recovery taken from the 1.50.401.1 RUU. It's the same as the XE one so will work for all users ***

haha lol, i see you used your "anger" to help other people and make this world better
Great job, this should clear up the ICS OTA thread!

And its as easy and as simple as that... , i will say tho that when i downgraded from ICS custom rom and was flashing 1.73.401.4 i did by downgrade by PG58IMG.zip on sdcard, when it came to the system.img to be flashed it looks like it has trouble , instead of the side column being blue , mine went red / black 3 or 4 times in a row... still flashed all good tho..

You can do it that way too but I'm guessing n00bs would have a nightmare and having to write up a guide on extracting the PG58IMG.zip from the RUU is a ballache
Might do it, though, but this thread isn't about flashing an RUU - it's for flashing the OTA over the top of it

Very noob here so be gentle -ish.
Thanks for the guide very clear, one small question if the volume rocker of my sensation has fallen off can I still use this method?

Many thanks for that very precise and clear guide, Eddy.
I guess now everyone should be able to perform that update.
May I raise a question in regard to restoring system settings and installed apps?
Obviously, when flashing the original RUU to get the phone into the right status for flashing the update all system settings and individualy installed apps will be gone.
How do I proceed to get a restorable backup?
Should I just make a full backup using e.g. Titanium Backup before I flash the original RUU and will it be possible to restore it later on the updated ICS device?
I am not sure if its that easy, since as far as I know Titanium needs a rooted device to work, right?
This would mean I need to root the ICS device before I will be able to restore?
Will the backup be compatible with ICS so that all system data and apps will be there again?
Would be great if you could provide me with some guidance on this question as well.
Many thanks in advance.

When do step 5. say: E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command. OK I ignored and go to step 6.Select the option to apply an update from your SD card and then select the OTA file but say Invalid operation, succes rebooting.....

Yes, and ... ?
If you are, then you'll get it OTA, you won't be able to flash it manually.

I will wait for OTA, because want to do s off because must go on waranty because dropping calls

You need to take the battery out, then put it back in to get into recovery first off. Second off the reason that the phone is booting up in one second is because you have Fast Boot enabled, so your phone is not really turning off it is actually going into a "Sleep Mode" hence how it can boot up so fast.

Thank you EddyOS. Followed your guide and now I'm running ICS! It's way faster.

Mine said the same but went into recovery anyway, installed the update and everything is working fine.

Hi. I've read whole tutorial. My phone is a Sensation with stock XE rom 1.73.401.4, not root, S-Off and HTC__001 CID. I can't apply update from recovery, on verifying system it fails on something like "/system/blah/blah/mpdecision...". I applied kernele patch to 1.5ghz when I installed stock rom and I think this is the reason. Any idea?

I ROM is not installed, when you switch displays in FASTBOOT! PD58IMG.zip can not install says in red letters Fail-PU ...
in my opinion I have with HBOOT 1.20.0000 problems. because I started to install automatic ROM ICS 4.0 with the file PD58IMG.zip, there is not the end everything was installed, some written as FAIL-PU.
I've read that if you try to flash the firmware update for hboot 1.20 if you don't have supercid some files may fail to update

tell me how to update? I'm from Russia, it is very difficult to translate and communicate. I ask how you can in a simplified form.
Give us some background info. Was your phone rooted in the first place? Did you follow the path s-off then clockwokmod recovery then root then supercid? What did you do before this happened? Did you try to install the latest RUU 3.06 where hboot 1.20 comes? We are happy to help but it's not easy trying to solve something without some info

phone s-off, root, super cid, it all started after trying to flash (Sensation ICS 3.06.401.1 - Rooted PG58IMG.ZIP) all the checkboxes have been installed in the firmware partition except system and even some I do not remember. After re-flashing, all the ticks became Fail-PU.

so, first, did you check the md5 checksum to see if your download wasn't corrupted? Some times I use winmd5sum portable because I don't need to install it in my computer. http://download.cnet.com/WinMd5Sum-Portable/3000-2381_4-75099291.html
You noticed that you are flashing a rom for the sensation not the sensation xe (this one is the 401.101) some differences are discussed here but is an advanced topic.
if everything is ok this is how you install a pg58img.zip using the bootloader
place pg58img.zip in sd card
turn off phone if you are not sure the phone is really off take battery out and put it back
press and keep holding VOL DOWN
press and keep holding POWER until you enter the bootloader
pg58img is automatically detected and you are asked if you want to update
after installation of all packages is finished reboot your phone
I was checking the pg58img and seems to be the RUU: the firmware update plus the rooted stock rom and the custom recovery.
although s-off and supercid are persistent and not modified with this firmware update your hboot 1.2000 is now locked and you may not be able to use fastboot commands or install some packages like radios (maybe that's happening to you when it says fail-pu)
to regain unlocked hboot you can use the tools at htcdev to unlock hboot 1.20 or you can download the hboot 1.17 onlocked from here
before you do that don't forget to delete the pg58 img that you hace in your sd card and then place this one in its place.
cheers

it failed when trying to flash the recovery which is custom and no stock. try flashing the firmware update only without recovery or rom. you can find it here, that's what i did first flashed the firmware only and after that a rom (android revolution 5.0.2 currently)
anyway, I was talking to some other guys and if noting works you can download a shipped RUU (there's a collection here). Run the exe file and you'll finish with a stock gingerbread system. You'll have to root and install custom recovery and the usual again. If after that you still feel like trying ICS install the firmware update only, not the one you tried.
cheers
Yet another example of someone jumping blind into something they don't understand. If you don't know how to reverse the rooting process you should not even consider rooting in the first place.
There should be some sort of test before rooting information is given out - would stop n00bs getting themselves up **** creek

Thank you, this cured my boot loop.
I just posted this over on the ARHD thread. Do you think that this maybe my case? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
About a week ago I SuperCID my phone. I then went to load a ICS ROM. I have not been able to get my phone to do anything but startup into HBOOT and/or Recovery. I either was getting stuck in a boot loop or would get the "HTC Quietly Brilliant" screen. I spent the whole weekend on the forums and still no luck. I was hoping someone could see something that I maybe doing wrong. The one issue that I know is wrong is the Radio version needed for ARHD is 11.69.3504.00U_11.22.3504.07_M. I tried to use a program called Android Flasher to load the correct radio but I don't think that that occurred. Below is all the information that I can gather.
TMOUSA Sensation 4G
On HBOOT Screen:
Revolutionary
Pyramid PVT SHIP S-Off RL
HBOOT - 1.27.1100
Radio - 11.22.3504.07_M
OpenADSP - V02.6.0.2226.00.0131
eMMC - Boot
Jan 13, 2012 17:33:34
Other specifics:
ARHD 6.51.1.zip ROM
ARHD SuperWipe.zip
4EXT v1.0.0.4 RC1 installed and working properly
PG58IMG is 3.32 for TMOUSA
CID and MID
CID 11111111
MID PG5810000
Any help would be greatly appreciated. If needed, I can upload a copy of the logcat while the phone boots up. Thanks in advance.
best best flash firmware 1,17 and then restart
then runn the ruu file
turn phone on fastboot make sure no img files in sd card ruu will see phone and bring you to step 1 in my post
fastboot is 1 step past were firmware installs make sure you have no img on sd card
its the firmware some of our phone just dont want to take it from 2.24-3.32 not sure why if your not getting in rom you can try backing up sd card formate it putting rom on it only rewipe and flash with nothing on it "king said dirty sd card" and try if not follow my steps
I will definitely try this tomorrow. Your instructions will work with TMOUSA correct?

Firstly - you HAVE to be running 1.50.401.1 to use this OTA file. and 1.17 firmware If you're on ANY other build it wont work
firmware can be found here for 1.17

OK dumb question. Will the 1.17 FW load the 1.50.401.1 with it or do I have to get that from somewhere?

You also have to be 100% stock (e.g. NOT rooted). If you are running a custom ROM you HAVE to use the http://www.4shared.com/file/risaQet4/RUU_Pyramid_HTC_Europe_1454012.htm RUU to get back to stock but you HAVE to leave the phone S-OFF.

I know with the RUU that the phone has to be up and running. Is there a way to run the RUU if the phone can only be loaded into HBOOT or recovery?
Yeah ruu will run in fastboot make sure you have no IMG files

Here's where I'm at now. I cannot update to 1.50 because HTC complains of a "Variant System Version" when I try to do the 1.50 OTA. I simply cannot figure out any way around this. My recovery is stock, CID is HTC__001 as you mentioned, and I can't move forward because I can't get this 1.50 installed.

Ran the RUU, let the phone boot up, checked for updates, update fails with the error I mentioned above.
I do not have the XE, just the regular Virgin Sensation. I had Virtuous 3.0.0 on there before but was trying to upgrade to 4.0.0 and got the boot loop after upgrading the firmware.
Would it not be easier just to RUU straight to 1.50?
So I decided to run an old'ish ICS Pyramid RUU I had lying around that I *knew* worked previously, RUU_PYRAMID_LE_ICS_35_S_HTC_Europe_3.06.401.101_Radio_11.59.3504.00U_11.16.3504.16_M_test_231336.
Then I flashed recovery, latest 3.32 firmware, did superwipe & virtuous 4.0.0. Everything works perfect!
Well if you don't have a xe the ruu should not have worked hmmmm yeah you can run Thu to 150 but all the ones I downloaded didn't work with bootloops

[Q] Need help downgrading from ICS to GB

Hi.
I have a Sensation which updated to ICS over the air. Can't stand it. All I want to do is to go back to stock gingerbread and sense, how the phone was a month ago basically.
I have already gone to htcdev, unlocked my phone.
I have installed 4EXT on my phone using this guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631861
and enabled smartflash.
From the command line my phone says it has the following.
C:\android>fastboot getvar all
(bootloader) version: 0.5
(bootloader) version-bootloader: 1.27.0000
(bootloader) version-baseband: 11.22.3504.07_M
(bootloader) version-cpld: None
(bootloader) version-microp: None
(bootloader) version-main: 3.32.401.5
Now... I understand that I need to gain S-OFF. I'm currently S-ON.
I also understand that to gain S-OFF with HBOOT 1.27, it needs the wire trick from here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1614617
But this method needs me to be rooted, and the ControlBear.exe utility says I'm not. The S-OFF guide above says I need to be rooted.
Can anyone give me some easy to understand guidance of where to go from here to get gingerbread back? *Utterly confused*
Out of curiosity, why don't you like ics?

Reasons I want to get rid of ICS...
The web browser in ICS is broken (cant handle text inputting correctly on a dual framed web page).
Whenever I left an app to go back to the desktop, it would sit for over 40 seconds sometimes, trying to reboot the desktop icons, flashing up the HTC logo inbetween.
It doesn't always play the incoming SMS notification sound, meaning I'm missing texts when they arrive.
The overall responsiveness is terrible compared to stock gingerbread and HTC sense that shipped with the phone.
Anyway, looking at rooting my phone, now I've got this far. I've read that I need a su.zip. Found a file, Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip. I've copied that to the SD card, popped it back into the phone. Booted into 4EXT recovery and chose "install from sdcard" -> "choose zip from sdcard" and selected the said zip file.
It reports E:Error in /sdcard/Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip (status 0)
Installation aborted
What have I done wrong?
Also:
Once I've got S-OFF.... I know I need an earlier HBOOT and the stock Gingerbread sense rom. Where do I go to get them?

Try a factory reset dude. It will probably fix all of those issues.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G with Beats Audio using xda premium
Tried a factory reset, still dont like ICS. Gingerbread was flawless in comparison.
Downloading Android Revolution HD 6.6.4 XE in the mean time, just incase feels any better.
Would still like GB back though
That's absurd.
Oh dear, things have gone from bad to worse.
Installed the Android Revolution HD 6.6.4 XE rom and did the boot.img patch to make Wifi work.
Decided to get S-OFF using the Juopunutbear method.
Got to the wire tap stage, and then the utility complained the adb server was out of date and couldnt start some daemon.
Now trying controlbear.exe again and it says this...
======== ControlBear 0.4 beta for JuopunutBear S-OFF ==========
Rebooting from bootloader
Waiting...
...Waiting
Detecting...Starting up......
Connecting to device...
ADB server didn't ACK
* failed to start daemon *
error:
Connect device and install drivers
Press ENTER to exit.....
On the phone it will only bootloop, or show the Juopunutbear splash screen.
Help!
LOOOOOL i love ICS but here's a awesome toolkit by hasoon2000 it's very n00b friendly & has easy S-OFF etc... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1497404 good luck going back to Ol gb & It's crappy battery life.
I would have used that *if* it supported HBOOT 1.27 to S-OFF, but apparently the only way to S-OFF with 1.27 is to use the Juopunutbear method. Hence why I'm stuck now!

Did you kill all ADB services in Task Manager?I've also read people have had to uninstall HTC Sync for the program to work, luckily I got S-OFF a while ago using that great tool kit.Try killing ADB & if you have to uninstall HTC Sync, hope that works for you
Tried killing adb.exe from the windows task manager before trying ControlBear.exe again. Same error as before
**EDIT**
Killed off the HTC tool from the system toolbar, then killed all instances of adb.exe.
I now have S-OFF, and the phone boots to a desktop
Now all I need to do is work out how to go back to GB...

Congrats on getting S-OFF ;-) If i were you I'd look in the Sensation-Development section of this great forum,I'm sure you'll find everything you need or just Google what you need and a link to XDA should popup.
OK.... well I've been reading the forums all day (yes I kid you not!)
Just want to get an idea if this is the correct way to go back to GB....
Im on HBOOT 1.27 with S-OFF and as I understand it, gingerbread wont boot using that version of HBOOT.
On the User friendly flash thread here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767&page=1
I have downloaded HBOOT 1.17 which is for a CID: HTC__001 (which is what my phone was before I changed it to 11111111) using "fastboot oem writecid 11111111".
I have also downloaded RUU_Pyramid_HTC_Europe_1.50.401.1_Radio_10.56.9035.00U_10.14.9035.01_M_release_223042_signed.exe
and extracted the rom.zip file from my windows Temp dir.
Now the only instructions I can see are for upgrading to the latest ICS, not downgrading.
"I really want to use the latest ICS! How do I go about doing this?
I get this PM'd to me a lot. The best way I have seen to do it is as shown (Thanks to PaulGiz)
1. Do some reading as this is a bit different and harder than a normal ROM flash.
2. Best way is to place Firmware PG58IMG.zip, ROM and Superwipe script on the root of your SD Card.
3. Shut down phone and remove SD card.
4. Boot phone to Bootloader (Power+Vol down).
5. Move selection to Recovery, but don't select yet.
6. Insert SD, then select Recovery.
7. Flash Superwipe (ARHD Superwipe will reboot when done, others may not. Make sure it is a superwipe for the sensation!) & then Flash ROM.
8. Power down, then boot to Bootloader. Select Fastboot. Say yes to upgrade.
9. Watch the flash. It will flash 3 or 4 things, then reboot to bootloader. Don't panic when screen goes dark. Bootloader will come back and it will finish flashing.
10. Now select reboot.
11. Wait (up to 10 minutes) for ROM to boot up.
12. Set up your phone and enjoy ICS!!!
If I was to follow this and place the following files PG58IMG.zip (HBOOT1.17), Rom.zip and Android_Revolution_HD_Super_Wipe_Sensation.zip, onto the sdcard and do the above, will it get me back to gingerbread, or am I likely to have a paperweight bricked phone?
Also, in doing this, I won't inadvertently reactivate S-On again I hope!... getting it switched off was a right work up.
Well I've worked it out myself
Ran superwipe from 4EXT
Copied HBOOT 1.17 (PG58IMG.zip) to the sdcard and used the fastboot to load that. HBOOT changed to 1.17 and kept S-OFF
Copied the rom.zip to the sdcard, but called it PG58IMG.zip and used the fastboot screen to load that.
Phone now has stock gingerbread on it! YES!
Thanks for everyone's help & input.

[OTA]3.33.720.6/106 ICS update India Flashing instructions & download

The update is out!
3.33.720.6 (Sensation)
3.33.720.106 (SensationXE)
3.33.720.106 OTA is intended for the HTC Sensation XE & 3.33.720.6 OTA is intended for the Normal HTC Sensation.
If you have made changes to your phone, I advise you follow the instructions in blue & red even if you intend to get the update from HTC instead of downloading from here.
If you are completely stock & have never changed anything on your phone, only follow the instructions in red
This is the only way to get back to stock on the Sensation XE (India) as of now, there is no RUU (which is why I created this thread, so others can find it later). Please download this or save a copy of the zip if you downloaded from HTC & keep it safe for use later & bookmark this post.
Instructions:
If you are S-Off:
Put the OTA zip to the root of your SD Card
Verify the MD5 of the zip using the MD5 checker tool with the phone connected in disk drive mode *
Flash 4ext recovery if you are on a Custom ROM: Download here
Code:
fastboot flash recovery 4ext.img
Unroot your phone permanently (SuperSU app > Settings > Full unroot) if you are rooted
Make a Nandroid backup of your current ROM from recovery if you have a custom recovery
Format all partitions (except SD Card) from recovery if you are on a custom ROM
Advanced Restore /system & boot from your Gingerbread Nandroid backup (or mine if you downloaded it) if you formatted all partitions in the previous step **
Flash stock recovery if you have a custom recovery: Download here
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery_signed.img
Restore your CID if you have changed it (HTC__038)
Code:
fastboot oem writecid HTC__038
Relock your bootloader if it is unlocked
Code:
fastboot oem lock
If you are S-Off:
Boot to bootloader (Switch off > remove & reinsert battery > Vol - & power) & select Recovery
Press Vol + & power then select apply update & select the zip:
"OTA_PYRAMID_LE_ICS_35_S_hTC_Asia_India_3.33.720.106-1.77.720.103_release_2669897zjcwf7bxqm8jti7.zip"
or
"OTA_PYRAMID_ICS_hTC_Asia_India_3.33.720.6-1.52.720.3_release_266988xlacemvilyww7ltw.zip"
Let it flash completely & follow instructions.
If you are S-On:
Either make S-OFF & follow previous instructions (recommended)
OR
Reboot to Android
Settings > About > Software Upgrade > Check Now
Download & install the update
If it fails or if you are bootlooping while rebooting to android, then S-OFF & try flashing it manually

GB ROM backups:
These are my backups for Sensation (1.52.720.3) & Sensation XE (1.77.720.103)
How to restore:
Download the zip file & verify the MD5
Copy the "clockworkmod" folder from inside the zip file to the root of your SD Card.
You should have the following path: /sdcard/clockworkmod/advanced/
Make sure you have 4ext recovery
Get to 4ext recovery from the bootloader
If you are HTC Dev Unlocked, enable Smart Flash from the tools option
Select Backup | Restore > Advanced Restore > /system > from Advanced Backup > 1.55.720.3 or 1.77.720.103
Select Backup | Restore > Advanced Restore > boot > from Advanced Backup > 1.55.720.3 or 1.77.720.103
Let the backup complete. Then reboot.
Don't worry if the phone bootloops when you try to reboot to android because that doesn't matter. Just continue on with the rest of the instructions from Post #1
Backup for Normal Sensation (1.52.720.3)
MD5: a2b002ded079b96b0b787be70ac0bde9
Backup for Sensation XE (1.77.720.103)

SuperCID needed. I can't guarantee it will work though.
You'll need the backup from an Indian ROM though.
You'll have to wait till I upload that.

S-Off needed?
Hi,
I have followed the instructions as below.
1. Flashed with Stock .img file. For removing CWM.
2. Unrooted phone.
3. Locked the bootloader.
In bootloader i can see warning as ***SECURITY WARNING*** and also after selecting Recovery the phone is again reloading the bootloader with security warning. Not able to select the ZIP file. Also i havent installed any custom ROM before.
I have downloaded OTA and saved it in root of SDcard.
Please help!!!
Currently S-ON.
Do we need to S-OFF before applying update manually?
On HTC Sensation XE with Stock ROM.
Are you running a custom ROM?
The "security warning" usually comes if you're running a custom ROM or a custom recovery.

Follow all the instructions in the order that they are stated.
It is important that you format all partitions except SD card from recovery & restore backup of system from gingerbread if you flashed a custom ROM.
If you didn't, just unlock your bootloader again & flash the recovery again.

I was running ARHD 6.6.7 ROM with the 3.32.401.5 firmware (unlocked bootloader via htcdev.com, rooted) so here's what I did prior to flashing the OTA update for ICS on my Sensation.
1. Search for the RUU for Asia_India, the one with the 1.52.720.3 firmware. This was the latest available software prior to ICS coming along. As stated by kgs above, you would need the RUU with the 1.77.720.103 firmware for your Sensation XE.
2. Run the executable, but do not proceed once it finishes extracting all files. Search for a file named 'rom.zip' in your local Temp folders.
3. Shut down phone and pull battery out.
4. Copy the file to the root of your SD card after having renamed it to PG58IMG.zip
5. Power up your phone into the bootloader by pressing the VOL DOWN button and the POWER button. The system should read and install the PG58IMG.zip file
6. When it asks you to reboot by pressing the POWER button, simply pull out the battery.
7. Delete the file named PG58IMG.zip from the SD card. Now copy the OTA file to the root of the SD card after having renamed it 'update.zip'.
8. Power up your phone into the bootloader by pressing the VOL DOWN button and the POWER button. Select the Recovery option and then press the VOL UP button and the POWER button. You should see a set of options including one to "apply update from sdcard". Select this option and choose the 'update.zip' file.
9. Wait for the OTA update to be applied, and then reboot as instructed.

Hi,
I am in the same boat as you are (running ARHD 6.6.7 on my sensation).
Any advantage of going back to the stock over ARHD ?

What kgs is suggesting is an alternative to what I did to get back to stock. The advantage here is you dont need to go through all the hassle of flashing a ROM in entirety just to apply an OTA update. You are only getting back to stock recovery.
What you would need to do is as follows:
1. Download adb tools for windows from here. Extract into a convenient location, like on your C: drive.
2. Save the 'recovery_signed.img' file to the folder where you extracted your adb tools.
3. Enable USB debugging on your phone. Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging
4. Connect your phone to your computer via USB in charging mode.
5. In the Windows command prompt, navigate to the folder where you extracted your adb tools. Type "adb devices" (without quotes) and hit enter. Your phone's serial number should be printed.
6. Type "adb reboot bootloader" and wait until your phone reboots into the bootloader.
7. Type "fastboot flash recovery recovery_signed.img" and wait for control to return. Screen output typically should print something like:
sending 'recovery' <1234 KB>... OKAY [1.234s]
writing 'recovery' <1234 KB>... OKAY [1.234s]
finished. total time: 12.345s
8. Type "fastboot reboot-bootloader" and your phone should reboot. Screen output typically should print something like:
rebooting into bootloader... OKAY [1.234s]
finished. total time: 1.234s
At this point, your phone will be on fastboot with BOOTLOADER selected. Press the power button.
9. Select RECOVERY and press the power button. You should be taken to a screen with a red triangle and an exclamation mark.
10. Press the volume up button and the power button. You should see a set of options including one to "apply update from sdcard". Select this option and choose the OTA update file (which should already be copied to the root folder on your sdcard).

To be honest, it was curiosity that drove me to check out stock ICS. There is no wow factor. I dont actually feel a difference in performance between ICS and GB, atleast on my phone.
I'll be backing up this ROM in a few days and experiment with Sense 4-based ROMs. I'll take a custom ROM any day.
I am using ELEGANCIA Sense 4 ICS Rom with S-Off , permanent root , 4EXT recovery ...
Can I go back to stock ? With S-on .. and is there any risk ?
Here are my current Sensation Details :
S-OFF With TacoRoot and Tevolutionary
ELEGANTIA ICS Rom With Sense 4.0
HBoot : 1.27.1100
Radio : 11.24A.3504.31_M
Kernel : [email protected]
Baseband Ver : 11.6A.3504.00P_11.24A.3504.31_M
Super CID : 11111111
Before root i had HBoot Ver : 1.18.0000
I am from India (told you for CID)
Can i go back to STOCK ICS With S-ON ? and Fully Stock Like in Under Warranty...
HELP Please...

I Give Up With ICS - Can I Revert Back To Gingerbread (Please)

Firstly thanks to everyone who give their time to help
My tech skills are useless, all these terms s-off, s-on, roms etc
is above my pay grade, my brain is fried i am jumping from thread to thread
trying to fix my wifi issue and it's driving me dilly.
I am on Android 4.0.3 - Sense 3.6, phone is rooted HTC-Dev and Flashed 4EXT.
I have been trying to fix the WiFi issue but im getting nowhere, i give up.
Can i revert back to Gingerbread?
Is there a step by step guide?
Help Appreciated
Thanks
1st: are you s-on or s.off?
If you are s-off you can extract the rom.zip from the appropriate GB RUU (but you dont tell what is) then rename it PG58IMG. Put in the root of your sd card (not in a folder) and reboot the device while holding down volume+ power button.
PG58IMG willbe automatically recognized and start to do its things. Then you will be prompted if you want to upgrade. Say yes by pushing volume up.
Wait untill the entire process is done and prompted to reboot (it may reboot itself a couple of times during the process, just do nothing and wait).
At the end of process you will be back to GB and need to set the phone like new. You will lose all data and settings.
Hope it helps.
How do i know if i'm S-off or S-on?
Used HTCDev to unlock bootloader then flashed 4EXT and something called
CWM-SuperSU-v0.96?
Thanks
This is the method i used:

Good day my dear friends,
Boring Intro------
Yesterday I was trying to root my wife's HTC Sensation which I upgraded to Official Middle East ICS 4.0.3 hboot 1.27.000 and I found this way by pure luck-----
I installed CMW and did the rooting while the device is S-ON
I'm not sure if this is a new method or was done before but I thought I'd share it to return some of your favors in this great forum.
I need to thank Mr.hasoon2000 because we will use his tol from the HTC One X forum.
Requirements:
1. Download the HTC One X All-In-One Toolkit V1.0 from this link, Thanks Mr.hasoon2000 I hope you don't mind me using your tool here.
2. Download the latest CMW recovery , choose the latest for Pyramid (The Sensation) in *.img. Here is the CMW 5.8.0.9 link.
3. Download SuperSU 0.88.zip, thanks Mr.Chainfire or from this link [23.04.2012] SuperSU v0.88.
Step By Step Method:
1. Copy the SupperSU.zip file to your SD root.
2. Extract the HTC One X All-In-One Toolkit V1.0 to the Disktop.
3. Connect your Mobile and make sure you're in the charging mood and your check USB development or debugging option.
4. Run the One X.exe application.
5. Install the HTC drivers.
****If you unlocked your Sensation's bootloader from HTCdev.com then skip step 6 ****
6. Register in HTCdev.com website, choose Unlock Bootloader, choose your device and follow the instructions. ~This May Void your Warranty~
7. Rename the CWM recovery to CWM5827, then copy it to HTC One X All-In-One Toolkit folder/Data folder/recoveries and replace the one inside.
8. Flush the CWM recovery using the toolkit, horray you installed CWM.
9. From Commands choose Boot into recovery and from CWM flush the SuperSU.zip.
10. Congratulations, You're Now ROOTED .
Unthick fastboot from your phone (should be under settings-Battery) Then reboot phone while holding volume down + power buttons and read what the bootloader says.
Or pull out and reinsert battery, then power up the phone while holding down volume
remove battery from phone
Remove any memory card installed in phone
put battery back into phone
press volume down..
While pressing volume down
Press power button...
Continue pressing both Until you enter bootloader
You will see white screen, print lots of writing in different colored text, but the top line will say 's-on' or 's-off'
Report back here

By the way I dont understand why you want to go back to GB. Once you are back you will be prompted to update to ICS again!.
Why dont you run directly a stock ICS RUU and see it it solves your issue?. In case you are S-On that would be the easiest way (the RUU).
If you want to go back to the way the phone was when you first got it, no root or anything, use an RUU
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1672425
That's everything you need to know. Basically run a program in Windows with the phone plugged in and it'll do all the work for you.
OK guys looks like i'm S-ON
PYRAMID PUT SHIP S-ON RL

Will that put me back to Gingerbread?
Cheers
No, if you are s-on the easiest way is to run the appropriate RUU.exe (still ICS not GB). But first you need to make some search and detect what is the right RUU for you according to your country, cid and mid.
When you will find it, just download the exe and, plug your phone to the pc and execute the RUU.exe
You cannot go back to GB as you are S-On.
RUU works for either the same software version or up not down.
