I noticed something with the G2X the other day that I never noticed with any other phone I had before, althought this is my first android. But I've noticed that if I have Wifi on with a weak connection with 4G (1 bar), it will not switch to the stronger Wifi signal for data, but rather keep trying to do things over the radio. Has anyone else seen/noticed this, and any idea how to make it hand off to the stronger connection?
I believe the my account app or something like that only works with phone data and not with wifi. Do a search it was posted somewhere in here about it. To figure it out further I would kill all running process you don't need under settings/application. Then try connecting wifi. I find myself running into a few bumps with wifi calling. Please could you provide more info like what version of android/ or rom. And any apps you may have? I have some ideas but could use more info to help trouble shoot.

Good point - more information is better . I'm using stock froyo, rooted with things like my account and I have the My Account and other similar things frozen.
This issue is something I noticed in my house. For example, if I go into the bathroom, I'll watch my bars drop to 1. So I then turn on Wifi, and it connects to Wifi, but then if I load up the browser to access the web, or market, etc. It'll still be using the radio instead of detecting the stronger signal and switching to that. So that's the biggest issue now. It's just weird it doesn't sense the stronger connection is there and go.
Try this. Stand near the wireless router and connect to you wifi...does it connect every thing correctly? ( ie wifi radio wifi calling if you use it and does the cellular bar shade out? If it all cconects correctly was away from the router towards your dead zone. As you walk slowly watch and see what your radio's do. This to see signal strength. I am sure they have an app that can show signal strength. I say we try this first to see if we can get it to connection properly. If your unable to connect properly I would try fixing permissions and possible dalvic wipe. I will be honest I am not an android guru like some but want to learn. I was a windows mobile user till a few months back. I will help you the best I can.

My captivate has a problem. It'll connect to WiFi no problem. Unfortunatly, after a while (could be anywhere from long 30 seconds to a few minutes) the WiFi stops sending data. I have to disable/reenable wifi to get it to work again. It still says connected to network, it just won't receive data.
Anyone know of this happening, have a fix, or maybe what I should look for that might be causing this issue?
I disabled recently installed running apps, no help.
I did try a speedfix last night, and it was unsuccessful, and I uninstalled it. Didn't test enough after that to know for sure if it was the issue, but I don't think so.
It was like, I was going through google reader, started a youtube vid, paused it, restarted it, and it wasn't loading. Just wouldn't load. That's when I think the problem started, and I haven't installed anything since then, that i haven't disabled/uninstalled.
Have you tried flashing the stock OS. Maybe this will help. My wifi has been solid so far but i will see if i get a problem like yours. Try reflashing. If it doesn't work post back.

I have the exact same issue on enterprise class cisco wifi APs. The only difference is the symptom is immediate, and not after an interval of time.

I'm thinking of this, but I don't know...
I have my music on my computer, I have my .apk's in a folder and my market synced with appbrain. Anything else I need to do? Will appbrain reset, and make me go find and reinstall everything?
What about the apps that I paid for, what happens to them?
Would be my first flash, and I'm thinking about flashing one of those I9000 roms, but that would be a last ditch effort. I really hope to avoid this.

It's an AT&T U-verse router, and only started a few hours ago, as near as I can tell.
I experience the same phenomenon of dropped wifi, and it occurs at any AP, but I have an interesting twist.
One time out of twenty when I start wifi, the 3g icon doesn't go away, but stays up on the status line with my wifi icon. On those rare occasions, my wifi stays solid for days. Unfortunately, it's random and rare.
same issue
My Wifi stops sending data and the 3G still shows. Sometimes restarting the router helps and sometimes nothing helps.
For anyone that might find this later, turns out (after two rom flashes) it was the router. I found this out when connecting my laptop to it. Surprised the captivate didn't admit it lost connection though.
I wish that were the case for me. My Captivate stays connected, but stops receiving at many different APs--Home, Starbucks, airport. I need a solution or a Scotch.

I had this exact problem, I tried a factory reset and it was still broken. I exchanged my phone and now it works perfectly holding a signal (except for enterprise 802.1x ap's which are known to be broken). (Also if you run dd-wrt check your logs for "deauthenticated due to local deauth", there is a problem with the wpa/wpa2 modules in either android or dd-wrt that they are not compatible with each other).
I actually found this searching for a solution to my own issue with WiFi. I actually fixed it while I was reading this. Unfortunately I have AT&T DSL with 2wire Modem. I went into the setting and setup MAC filtering and assigned it it's own IP. It has worked flawlessly for the past hour. I know this probably will not help when at other locations but at least at home I have a good connection.

Same router type as mine that lost it originally. Interesting, wonder if there is a connection? Or random coincidence.
I'm having a wifi issue as well, but not to the extent others have.
I connect fine, but it appears as though my data download speed is capped at <2mbps for both wifi and 3g?
My wife's iPhone is getting download speeds of over 10mbps on the same wifi network and >3mbps over 3g.
Is it worth flashing back to stock? or is this a known issue?
I'm running stock JH3 with SRE 1.2.1a with lagfix
I have this same issue and it's really random. Running JH2, sometimes it works on wifi, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes disabling\re-enabling wifi fixes it, but rebooting the phone always fixes it. Really frustrating...
First let me say I love my G2x overall and I have no desire to return it or even leave TMobile. But.........
Let me start this by stating that I have Verizon fiOS at home and a Netgear Wireless AP. My phone and various other equipment connect to the Netgear for internet access. I've noticed on my phone that at random times I have a full wireless signal and 4G (2G or G, depending on the time of day I suppose) on my notification bar. I originally didn't think much about it thinking my wireless would override the 4G.
Well I decided to root my phone and use BloatFreezer to freeze some apps (MyAccount, Qik, TeleNav, etc), plus I believe many feel that MyAcount is the cause of this, but with all 3 instances of it frozen is it still the reason behind this?
Last night I had it happen yet again and I ran speedtest just to see which of the 2 was the main one. Well not to my surprise the cell data was overriding my wireless.
I'm (hopefully) attaching the 2 pictures I took. One with the celldata active and showing what SpeedTest reported and a 2nd with cell data off and the new speedtest report.
My basic question here is what service/app/etc am I needing to freeze to avoid this again, it's extremely annoying when I'm trying to watch youtube only to have my phone in the middle attempt to use cell data and it can't due to reception and boot me from the video, or when I'm downloading from the market.
I noticed this also. Usually when opening up Market or My Account. I know for fact that My Account only works over cell tower so it will automatically disable wifi and bring back 3g. Dunno about Market but I suspect the same.
just get an app with a widget to turn off data when you are using wifi???? I dont have this issue at all so I can't really help much, but its an alternative, for now.
Doesnt wifi calling turn data off completely when connected? Could try that.

Correct. This would work.
Believe its the tmo my account app, freeze it and see if it helps.
G2X
I have myaccount frozen already. My wifi calling turns on whenever it feels like it, it sometimes turns on right away other times it takes an hour or so to finally connect. Ill keep an eye on this when wifi calling is on to see if my issue is still there.

It might be the Market app. I get perfect Wifi unless I open up market app or any app that access the market.
I just turn wifi off and on again. Fixes it. Not that we should have to.

For the life of me, I can't get MyAccount.apk to stop running. Its frozen with TB, and I moved it out of /system/app folder.
Its always in the foreground in SystemPanel...

just delete the apk all together and reboot...
bloat freezer app's default will freeze an app more completely than titanium backup will. it also has the partial freeze option like titanium does as well. after freezing with bloat freezer it disappeared from even titanium backup seeing it.

Ok I've had wifi calling enabled all day and sure enough 2G came up and took over data service for no apparent reason, I wasn't in the market app or myaccount. I was simply texting when I noticed it, I ran speedtest again and verified 2G was the active service even though I had wifi on
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I also might add that I have SwitchPro on and when I have wifi enabled the data connection is shown to be disabled (tells me it gets disabled when wifi is active) but I still had the cell data icon on and overridding my wifi. So obviously disabling my data through a widget doesn't solve my issue.
I'm noticing strange WiFi issues, in that my data speeds keep slowing down to a standstill for no reason.
In fact, when I first booted the device, and started to install my apps, I wondered why there were downloading so slowly, so I installed "SpeedTest" and sure enough my data speeds were like 1.5mbps. To test that my network hadn't just suddenly gone crazy, I ran the test from my laptop and that confirmed normal speeds.
To remedy this, I changed my advanced wifi settings to just use the 2.4 ghz signal, then changed my router settings (a BT Home Hub 3) from smart wireless (auto changes channel to the "best" channel to just remain on that already pre determined best channel.
I then immediately saw an improvement, as it was downloading now at about 27mbps... and so I thought I'd cracked it.
Apparently not.... It regularly goes back to downloading really slowly, and sometimes, messing with all those settings again doesn't do anything to improve the speeds.
Anyone else experiencing this, or has any insights as to what is going on? could it be a wifi driver issue, which may be rectified in later updates or baseband versions?
Here are some pics to give you an idea... all from the same network
Back to awesome after changing router security settings... I wonder how long it will last this time?

Exactly the same for me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2514501
I'm being sent a replacement but I can't say I'm convinced that one will be any different.
This issue occurred on my BT home hub, a tp-link access point, and the access points where I work.
Hi,
Hoping someone on here can help me with my issue. When I'm at home I get no Internet over my WiFi on my phone. I have a Nexus 5, stock, and it is the only device in the house that has this issue. It is not the general WiFi on the phone, as at work I am able to use the Internet just fine over WiFi. It shows as connected to the network yet I get the Orange icon rather than the white one (indicating no internet access). I do occasionally get the Up/Down arrows next to the wifi icon in my settings panel, which I assume indicated data transfer but the icon still orange.
I have looked around on the internet so far and found loads of fixes that haven't done this for me. Im up for any suggestions apart from stuff like suggesting I buy a new router (which is a BT HomeHub4, for refernce) or rooting my phone. I am concious of rooting my N5 after I had issues with my GS3 and N4 after rooting.
Thanks in advance,
MTMannion

So i know this is a widespread problem because im on my 3rd pixel 3 and i have exactly the same problem on every one.
When im at home wifi is on but half the time it isnt connected, but as soon as i poke about on the wifi settings it connects. Its like its in some kind of sleep mode or something. I end up using all my mobile data whilst indoors a few meters away from the router! Ive had a pixel 3 since it came out and just cant seem to fix this problem.
Please tell me its a well known problem and some one has worked out a fix
I have not had that problem, but you may be able to reduce the mobile data usage by turning off "Switch to mobile data automatically" in Settings, Wi-Fi preferences.

This is no a known issue and if you're on your 3rd pixel i don't think had anything to do with the phone. It's most likely an issue on your router side. Have you tried resetting it?
Are you by chance using WiFi which is configured as hidden network? This is typically done by checking the checkbook next to "do not broadcast SSID" checkbox.
If you are connecting to such network, there is a setting you have to check while setting up that WiFi connection. It is hidden in normal dialog and so it is easy to miss. This was the root cause for similar issue I have seen on my Android devices including Pixel.
Im not using a hidden network. The weirdest thing is whenever i notice its not using wifi as soon as i pull down on the screen at the top it will connect. like its been caught out lmao. was using the phone just now, an alert comes up to tell me ive used 2gb of data. so i pull down on top of screen and theres an x on the wifi icon, its on but theres an x (probably means not connected to anything) then a second later it connects. i dont click on anything it just connects whenever i pull the top bar down to check. its been happily eating my data while on sat in doors but as soon as i check that status it connects! its damn crazy!
This is exactly what it does every time without fail whenever i notice there is no wifi.
Fix your router bro

The x on the wifi icon means you are connected to the router, but the router is not connected to the internet. Like everyone else, I think you have a router problem. Rebooting the router may help, but it may be time to replace the router.
Where are you located? It could be that your internet is unable to ping google servers. I have that issue whenever I clean flash, but I am in China so that is why.
This is not a widespread issue and as almost everyone has said, you have a router issue. It's possible that your router "sleeps" when nothing is trying to use it but that's just a guess. My suggestion, get a new router.
