I'm new to the Infuse and the Android world, so this might be a silly question.
What goes on behind the scenes while the phone is charging? There has to be something running in the background that affects sleep mode because it's the only time when I can wake the phone using the volume buttons -- something I'd love to be able to do persistently (I find it a little cumbersome using the power button all the time).

In Android, charging always inhibits the deepest sleep states. (Charging is a permanent wakelock until the charger is removed.)

Searched around for a few hours and I haven't been able to find a solution, so I'm turning to XDA as always.
I was using my phone earlier today, and like always, tried to "sleep" the phone by tapping the power button at the top of my phone. My screen stayed lit and for whatever reason it wouldn't sleep, so I'm trying to figure it out.
I can't deduce if it is a hardware issue or something weird with the software or ROM that I am using. I've never had this issue before, and I'm not sure how to diagnose/fix the issue.
Sliding the keyboard awakes the phone, and I am able to use the touchscreen and keyboard with full functionality, but I am not able to turn off/sleep the phone with the power button. Any and all possible help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all so much.
does the power button work?
does the phone drift off the sleep when you set it to sleep after 1 min of inactivity?
take out your battery put it in see if u can turn the phone on with the button if u cant its broken.
Hello all,
First of all, apologies if this is in the wrong forum.
I have an HTC EVO 4G on Sprint. I am looking for an app that will manage the backlight in a way more like Windows Mobile's own built-in management. Here's what I am looking for more specifically. When charging or plugged in, the backlight should be full brightness and the screen should never dim or turn off. When on battery, the backlight could be set to dim after xx minutes, or not dim. The device should then shut the screen off after xx minutes.
With Android's built-in settings, all I can come up with is the setting for the screen to never sleep when charging, which is oddly placed under Applications -> Development. The screen timeout setting applies to both battery and charging statuses.
Why? When the phone is plugged in, I like to be able to quickly glance at it for time or notifications. I don't like having to hit the power button to check these. When on battery, the phone is usually in my pocket so taking it out and pressing the power button are almost one motion. It saves battery as well.
Also, in the car, I always have the phone charging. I've noticed that some GPS and other programs will keep the backlight on, but others will not. I've seen some applications just allow the backlight to dim, so I have to keep touching the display to wake it up.
Does such an application exist? If not, doesn't anyone else want to see such an application made?
This is one of the little things that I miss about Windows Mobile 6.5.
Just over the past 2 days my GTab would go to sleep and refuse to wake up. Hitting the volume rocker did not wake it up and neither did hittng the power button. So I set the screen timer to never and set it in my Malata dock and had it sitting there running clock. After 2 or so hrs. (was not in the room) tab shut itself down.
Took about 30 min of hitting the volume and power button repeatedly before it decided to reboot.
Is this something to be concerned about? is my tab about to brick itself? It just happened all of sudden and I was caught of guard.
I have been running TnT lite 4.2 since purchase with no issue outside of market. Now all of sudden this.
Should I roll the rom back to stock and start over? or is there something I need to be looking at?
I know I can adjust the screen timer, but is there an actual "sleep" setting I can adjust?

Hey, I don't know if this might help. I read this on the Nvidia dev. page a while back concerning the Tegra 250 & Tango board which is what I believe we have in the G Tablet (I could be wrong!)
"Due to a problem with the battery charge controller on some Tango units, you must charge the battery ever 2-3 weeks. If you find that the battery is plugged into the charger but remains at <7% charge, please try charging the battery for 6-12 hours. If the battery remains at <7%, please contact NVIDIA as the battery needs to be replaced.
In certain power saving configurations, touching the screen or "Android buttons" at the top of the device is not adequate to wake the device. To work around this, try inserting or ejecting the SD Card to wake the device. Failing that, you will need to reset or power cycle the Tango. Alternatively, please set the screen timeout to 30 minutes (Menu->Settings->Display->Screen Timeout)."
I have no idea if this will help, but hopefully it will.
Good Luck.
Thanx for that info. I did try pulled the SD card thinking that might force it to reboot, but it did nothing. The unit was is in fact shut down, not sleeping. It took alot of button pushing to get the unit power on. Now that it's up and running again, I have gone through all the sleep settings and it still happens. The longer I let it sleep, the more likely it shuts itself down.
Gonna call viewsonic today and see if I can get any help from their and.
So, I need to know which Kernel or app or anything I need to take my Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 - STOCK - but rooted and make the knock knock feature work like the LG phones have. Installing this in the dash and since there is no front button, turning this on my be a pain in the rear...
Actually, I may have answered my own problem... I am installing this tablet in a custom mount and using it for my car as the main source of audio/video/nav. Since there is no home button, I originally wanted the knock knock wake function, but in researching this it seems that it works on certain kernels (that are not compatible with this device) and it also drains the heck out of the battery... So let me run this by everyone who may have input and see if it makes sense. To me, it does, but I may be underthinking the solution...
The OTG connector will be home to a hub that has one input (for power) and two outputs (for expansion). I am going to have the USB power input hooked up to the USB power in my center console, which only has power when ignition is ON. So, my thought is this. The tablet will not have power when ignition is off, but when you key on the USB will have power and thus will charge the tablet. On charge, it should WAKE, yes? The dev option for STAY AWAKE will be used to, when charging, always stay on... then the 1 minute time out option will turn the screen off shortly after ignition is off.
Make sense? Should work?
everytime i attempt to charge the phone the screen wakes up, is there a option to turn this off at all?
gets annoying after a while.
In Developer Options turn this command off. Stay Awake.
I think he means that when he bugs the phone in or puts it on a wireless charger the lock screen lights up.
I'd be interested if there was an answer as well.

yeah when i plug the charger in the screen turns on and i have to press the side button to turn off the screen again, gets irritating after a while especially when you have a app open.
i'll try that dev option and see if that changes anything.

Can't it simply do what previous Samsung phones did before? You plug in the charger it makes a sound that it's charging and that's it? What purpose would benefit anyone by waking the screen when the phone has started charging anyway? All it does is irritate the user as they have to keep pressing the side button each time the phone is left to charge.
It seems the only way to disable this is yet again root and there doesn't seem to be any other way, not even a app at least..
???
Waking the screen while charging each time is dam meaningless.
The screen should time out and turn back off or am I missing something?
No, you are not missing anything. I agree, there is no reason for the screen to come on upon starting to charge as you have an led that tells you that. It is just ANNOYING!
Yes this is annoying and I am still looking for a way to disable it. Not only does the screen turn on when I place my S8 in the cradle, when the screen timeout kicks in, the screen wakes again when the wireless charging does its animation of how much percentage is left.
Try "All My..." it contains no wake on charge. If you use wireless charging then I would reconomend using a charger limiter like "Battery Charge Limit [ROOT]" to minimize heat.
