Knock Knock for Tab2? - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I need to know which Kernel or app or anything I need to take my Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 - STOCK - but rooted and make the knock knock feature work like the LG phones have. Installing this in the dash and since there is no front button, turning this on my be a pain in the rear...

Actually, I may have answered my own problem... I am installing this tablet in a custom mount and using it for my car as the main source of audio/video/nav. Since there is no home button, I originally wanted the knock knock wake function, but in researching this it seems that it works on certain kernels (that are not compatible with this device) and it also drains the heck out of the battery... So let me run this by everyone who may have input and see if it makes sense. To me, it does, but I may be underthinking the solution...
The OTG connector will be home to a hub that has one input (for power) and two outputs (for expansion). I am going to have the USB power input hooked up to the USB power in my center console, which only has power when ignition is ON. So, my thought is this. The tablet will not have power when ignition is off, but when you key on the USB will have power and thus will charge the tablet. On charge, it should WAKE, yes? The dev option for STAY AWAKE will be used to, when charging, always stay on... then the 1 minute time out option will turn the screen off shortly after ignition is off.
Make sense? Should work?

Bypassing hardware power button (Car Tablet)

I'm planning a project to mount a tablet in the dash of my car. I'm working through all the considerations I need to take due to not being able to access anything but the front of the device. I've got workarounds for just about everything, except for that pesky power button.
Does anyone have any suggestions for bypassing it by some means? The device will be powered by the car, so it will be rare that I need to access the power button. However, removing the tablet is not an option.
Options I'm considering:
Physical rewiring of power button to a button on the dash.
Turning the screen into a power button
Wake on Lan capability to render power button useless
The physical rewire is the best option I've come up with so far, but would not be an easy task by any means. I don't know if the other two options are even feasible.
Any ideas?
Hey
Hey there...
Did you find any workaround for this? I was considering a simillar project but instantly thought the power button would be a big issue.
I know some tablets turn on when plugged, which means the tablet would turn on as you turn the car on. This happens with my Asus Transformer. It automatically turns on when I plug it into the wall socket. I'm betting this would be the best sollution. The problem is... finding a suitablet tablet that does this. lol
Cheers.

As he said receiving power from the usb adapter will (in most cases) turn on the display, that solves the first part, the next part would be preventing it to lock again, to do this go into setting/display and set screen timeout to never. Also if you are running a custom rom as cm7 you can go into tablet settings and disable the lockscreen to have direct acess into the ui.

deactivate turn on screen when start loading

Hi,
i do own a samsung galaxy sIII aka i9300.
i have it ROMt with the paranoid ROM 1.992 (recent cm10 based ROM).
my clock/loading station is a philips AS112.
the scenario:
when i used to put my phone on my station, my phone doesnt recognize the power plug in time. the station has, for unknown reasons, a delay while generating enough supply to power my mobile phone. at least in such a low lever, my phone will not recognize the power plug directly.
i close my eyes to sleep and 1 till 2 minutes later the screen pops up, it flashes due to the recent power supply.
here is my question:
when you plugin in a power supply (whether usb or ac), is it possible to suppress the automatic screen on? i hate it and i cannot see any use while i have the s3 (with an own power led color).
my ROM has an option called dev options. maybe the solution i seek is located over there?
any hints are much appreciated
cheerioh
No dev section is not for that.
To remove that we have to tweak charging scripts but it is risky it might lead to even not charging issue...
we all should be polite enough to press thanks for anyone who helped US.

Any apps to auto boot/shut down? Need help..

Whats up XDA.
So I have a galaxy tab sch-i800 running on cyanogenmod 9. I plan to fit my tablet into the dashboard of my car. I have everything worked out except how I'm going to turn it on and off. since I won't be able to access the power button I need a way for it to power on/off by its self, that way its not occasionally dead when I start my car.
At first I planed to use tasker to turn the tablet on when plugged in (or when I start my car, it turns on). and then turn off after an hour of inactivity (or an hour after I've turned off my car).
But now that I'm looking at tasker it won't let me use the command "turn on" (even though I'm rooted) and I don't see a turn off command.
Is there any apps out there that can help do exactly what I want?
I have noticed that 4.2 and higher automatically boots the device when it is plugged in, I'm on 4.0, would upgrading screw up cyanogenmod?
Thanks!

[Q] Default "ON" time when power connected?

I am getting ready to, next weekend, finalize my build and install my Galaxy Tab 2 in my car as my main infotainment system... I have it set so you sadly will not have access to the power button, however it is wired to an ignition power circuit w/ a usb charger. So, this means that when the car turns on, the tablet powers up. Developer options set to never turn off while charging, so essentially my tablet will stay on while driving or when the key is on. Here's my concern... when you key on, you have about 10 seconds to swipe and open this thing otherwise it goes back off normally. Technically it is charging, so it may stay on (have not yet tested this as I just thought of it... lil slow today lol) but in the event it does not, can I change the delay when powered on to unlock to like, 60 seconds?? Tablet is stock, but rooted... Thanks!
It can be done with Tasker+secure settings plugin
Search in google "Tasker – How to Unlock Your Screen", with this guide you create the task , then you just have to create the tasker context that will trigger it, a simple "power any" context.
Double tapping the screen to wake is one of the options you get with Tasker.

Power on without power button

The power button of my S8+ suddenly stopped working yesterday. All was good until I forgot to charge the phone. Now it's turned off and I can't turn it back on.
Can I turn on the device without using the power button?
I think you can, put it to charge.
I really want to know did it work??
Any alarms set on your device?
If so, you can power it on while ringing alarm.
I don't think you really can turn on the device if it turn off before charging and you can't press the power button.
Let us know if you can actually do it.
If not, you will have to change the power button. There is no any other alternative.

Simply charging it didn't turn on the device. I was able to turn the device on with the power button. It suddenly worked again.
I looked online and there used to be a USB jig which forces the phone into recovery mode for older devices. Does anybody know if there's also one for s8?

Different resistor values on the pins of the charger will do certain things look into 609k resistor jigs
