Hi All, I'm trying to get the Galaxy tab 10.1 ebook apk to work on my rooted TF. It requires that I install "My files" 10.1 apk as a system file as well. I can seem to get it to install. Has anybody tried to get this particular app on their TF. How should I proceed thank you?
Is it even compatible?
You can try adb push it to system/app
Yes I am rooted. Thanks. I used root explorer to get my files into the system app...
Lol, didn't noticed you say you' re rooted. What about permission?
Sometimes when you move file root explorer way you have to manually change permission
Yeah I like the galaxy tab 10.1 reader, the same as on my galaxy tab 7. I tried to install it, but no luck, I think it check for samsung system files. Even by copying the apk directly with root explorer, the app doesn't show.
Edit: well, it does show but it's force closing.
Let us know if you'll manage to get it working.
Yes I have the appropriate permissions in place and read that in order for the ebook apk to work I needed to install my files. The ebook apk boots for a second, showing the shelf and everything, but force closes...
Will let you know, but someone here is bound to have some knowledge, I know it.
I got the apj installed and showing but force closes when I try to import books

Yes we need to have "my files" apk installed in conjunction. However, I can't seem to get it installed. I think the TF may have to be deoxed...not sure why though.
Nope, even on deodex rom it doesn't work, I'm on Prime 1.7.

So I just found what appears to be a permanent fix for running the new android 2.2.6 market on Fission. I know others like myself were having a lot of issues with this. I'm on the 2.3.1 build of it.
Note: I have tried clearing cache, updating, etc... and haven't had a single Force Close error!
1) So I downloaded a copy of the market apk from here (I used the first alt link):
http://www.droid-life.com/2010/12/11/download-new-android-market-version-2-2-6-for-all-2-2-phones/
2) Then download the app ZipSigner off of the android market so we can resign the apk.
3) Open zipsigner and type in the location of the android_market.apk that you downloaded.
4) Give the output a new name like android_market-sign.apk
5) Install the new signed market file as you would any other app. It asks you about overwriting but just install it and it will "upgrade" your current app, just install it and it will be successful now.
6) Run the market normally and everything should be good!
Side Note: If you were to have any issues you can also just go to Settings>Applications>Manage Applications->All, find the Market entry and click "Uninstall updates" and it takes you back to the normal 2.2.
Let me know if this works for you guys also!
Works great for me! Love it compared to the old market ..thanks for the fix. Never tried it before but its working fine now. What is the signer program for? Im curious what else it could be used for?

*I installed the one i downloaded though. Seems to work fine...for now.
Thanks ... you know, sometimes it's amazing what you (I) can actually do if you only follow directions.. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Thanks!!!
Sure it is going to help many users
If it does work over time I will post it on FRM.
I swore I signed it and it gave me FCs after a few reboots so maybe I did forget to sign

Just put the Android_Market.apk on the root of your sdcard then change the filepath to: /mnt/sdcard/Android_Market.apk
And change the signed output filepath to: mnt/sdcard/Android_Market_signed.apk
Then go to your sdcard either through file manager or root explorer or astro and just run the apk like you would any other.
I had some trouble to but just typing it in worked and now I have this working great!
With the zipsign update that came today you should just be able to select the file using the built in browser. Just give the output any other name like vending-sign.apk or something. Run the file then from any file browser after its signed.
And im not sure if this helps CM as I only have a droid 2 and just kinda accidentally stumbled on this fix as I was playing around with some other files but it prob should work

I tried again and im still getting the install error. followed your directions, what am i missing?

What can you accomplish when you zip sign apks?? I did the market fix and it worked well but I wanted to know why they need to be "signed"...can you sign maybe an apk you backed up from an old droid 2 that was rooted and paid for the apk but have a new google account and dont want to pay for it again..would that have them show up in market? Jw?

im having a LOT of trouble downloading apps on my TF which my xperia can download.
my tf says that my country its not allowed to download the app.
there is a way to bypass this? or a way to get the apps =(?
Edit
strange enough i could download angrybirds on my first tablet, now i cant anymore =s
try and find one of the many market fixers out there.
find the apk, put on SD, and install via the file manager.
"market enabler" allows you to spoof your location in the eyes of the market. i'm unsure if there's one that works specifically with honeycomb.
also, rooting and installing the US version of a rom like Prime might help as well.
hope i helped.

i downloaded market enabler via the market and nothing
i need to try the custom rom, my xperia its using CM6.1.4 i think and i can download almost everything, but i dont know, there are some apps that i cant get on it.. though
if i can get the mercury messenger apk and adobe reader apk i would be happy for now
edit i got what i wanted, quite surprised it was easy, i just need those apps for now since im using the tablet to read cisco manuals
I'm working with a new b80 so its unrooted running stock rom 3.2 android hopefully a root will be out soon.
what happens: the package installer runs tells about it but install button is not clickable only cancel is
i have tried lots of apks. get the apk to the tf by any means sd or usb or hook it up and put it in there with windows
find it with a file manager and try to run it and the above happens
have also tried installing it with windows installers meant for phones with no luck
yes i have a check mark by allow unknown sources
yes i have tried several installers from the market
yes i have tried different file managers from the market too
get the same result
can you install apks on unrooted machines?
Does app from market install?
Shouldn't matter if you're rooted or not unless you're trying to install a system apk
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
yes market apps work just fine
Have you tried using the "install application" option in Asus Sync?
Can you tell us what app? Maybe it's not compatible or something. If you got it from a pirating site or any other site, it could probably be corrupt.
just got several aps ones that i havent been able to install any other way pirated and some that are not to install useing asus sync
It works great if anyone knows a work around i would still like to know just so i wouldnt have to be home to install apks
Thanks for your time guys
I've been using the new stock tnt 5699 for 3 days now, it seems to be far more stable and fast than previous versions, flash plays well on almost all the web pages I've tested, it only needs market and google applications to turn it into a really useful rom. So these are the modifications to "The Viewsonic G Tablet Super Thread (w/Market, Gmail, and Maps!)" to have it up and runnig:
1. Download and install z4root
2. Run z4root and choose "permanently root" to root your gtablet
3. Download and install rootexplorer
3. Run root explorer and Mount "/system" as R/w
4. Download and unzip gtablet ( http://forum.xda-developers.com attachment.php?attachmentid=432583&d=1288749538) into your sdcard
5. Copy the contents of G Tablet\permissions to System\etc\permissions
6. Copy the contents of G Tablet\lib to System\lib
7. Copy the contents o G Tablet\APP into your system\app folder
8. Install them in this order:
GoogleServicesFramework.apk
OneTimeInitializer.apk
Talk.apk
Vending.apk
Gmail.apk
Maps.apk
9. Make sure you remount "/system" as R/O when you're done!
10. Restart your G, Connect to Wifi
11. Open rootexplorer and Mount "/system" as R/W
12. In rootexplorer long press in "/system/build.prop" and choose "open in text editor"
13. Where it says "ro.product.device=harmony" change it to: "ro.product.device=olympus"
14. Press menu button and select save and exit.
15. Perform the following steps:
Go into Settings.
Go into Applications.
Select Manage Aplications (all).
Select Market.
Select Clear Cache.
Select Force Stop.
Hit back button once.
Select Services Framework.
Select Clear Data.
Select Force Stop.
Back to home screen.
16. Open market (you should get an error message)
17. Reboot gtab.
18. Let it sort things out on its own. Go into Market.
19. Enjoy Market.
The only thing not working is the google calendar
Hope this is useful
Thanks this is extremely helpful. What are the three copied folders Permission/Lib/App needed for?
Also, are you getting any force closes with any of the apps after installing the market?
Android Market without rooting?
Is it possible to install the Android Market without rooting? Or un-root after installing the Market?
The reason I ask is movie rentals from the Android Market. Movies won't play on rooted devices. Just wishing there were some way of getting movies rentals to work.

I haven't tried it on the Gtab, but I'd look at Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper (https://market.android.com/details?id=org.projectvoodoo.otarootkeeper). It allows you to unroot/root if you're already rooted. It was developed for the Kindle Fire to re-root after OTA updates, but it also works to backup and unroot for apps that don't like root. I've used it on a couple of non-Kindle devices and it works great.
I was successfully able to run this:
- with temporary root
- using free es file explorer
The changes I did were:
2) instead of Permanent Root, I chose Temporary root. I needed to enable USB debugging first, but temporary root worked.
3) Instead of root explorer I used ES file Explorer. The Viewsonic-installed 1.x version did not work. I downloaded a newer version 1.6.1 from estrongs.com
Also, it took a few tries for market to show up under "system applications" in tap&tap's settings screen. I didn't have an "applications (all)", it may have been a root explorer thing.
I'm waiting for Market to self update like help says it will. This old version did FC on me once.
You don't even need root to install the Market on stock!

Have u tried this on an unrooted gtab? If so are the steps the same without the need to rw
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Wait a sec, does system even need rw? Without root it cant be changed to rw.

I have a question about step 3. How do you download root explorer when you don't yet have access to the Market?
[Edit] Never mind. I found an alternative method of getting gapps on to my Gtablet. It is an update file that automated the gapps install. Do a web search for "Gtablet Back to Stock w/ a few modifications" and you will find it. It is a February 22, 2012 entry of a blog entitled "Salvatore's Place"
I did the above and every thing works perfect except that I have the old market and its not updating. any help on that?

I wrote a program called OogleVox, which installs the Play Store on rooted devices. It is a little more comprehensive than these instructions and other than modifying the build.prop it sets everything up. Does anyone want to try it out? http://goo.im/devs/danifunker/OogleVox
Please post your results.

Okay, so I have TNT Lite 4.20 installed. Will your prog install the Play Store on my tablet? Do I install it like any other .apk?

Some apps in zip won't install
Everything worked fine until I tried to install googleservicesframework.apk. Goes thru process then says App not installed. Help!
I've already removed all the mini apps, but the 'tray' is still there. Is there any way to remove it completely? I keep accidentally pressing it when I'm typing
There is a way to delete them. You can google for a guide to remove them from the Tab 7.7. The same method works on the note. Ive done it but i got careless and deleted the popup player by accident (now my video player crashes when i try to pop it out). Be careful. But yes, no mini apps on my note now
Or, if you don't use snotes and are happy with the alternatives, you could install an AOKP rom from the developement thread... That definately doesn't have the mini apps but you also loose all the samsung stuff too...
Thanks guys! I'll try the first suggestion for now
"On my GT-5100 I removed the pesky Mini Apps Tray by simply renaming /system/framework/minimode.jar to minimode.jar.1 and reboot. By re-renaming the file and rebooting again, the bar works again."
Not my solution, is from here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30530262
You need root for that, If someone finds a way without root please share
Edit : or try SureLock from market, read about it here http://www.42gears.com/blog/2012/09/disable-mini-apps-tray-on-samsung-galaxy-tablets/

I made the same attempt on my N8000 and it worked You obviously need to have your GN rooted to alterate the name "minimode.jar" as it is part of an Read-only memory. Just got FX root explorer to do this job. I can do away with that haunting pop-up stupid bar :- )
Thanks
