I'm working with a new b80 so its unrooted running stock rom 3.2 android hopefully a root will be out soon.
what happens: the package installer runs tells about it but install button is not clickable only cancel is
i have tried lots of apks. get the apk to the tf by any means sd or usb or hook it up and put it in there with windows
find it with a file manager and try to run it and the above happens
have also tried installing it with windows installers meant for phones with no luck
yes i have a check mark by allow unknown sources
yes i have tried several installers from the market
yes i have tried different file managers from the market too
get the same result
can you install apks on unrooted machines?
Does app from market install?
Shouldn't matter if you're rooted or not unless you're trying to install a system apk

yes market apps work just fine
Have you tried using the "install application" option in Asus Sync?
Can you tell us what app? Maybe it's not compatible or something. If you got it from a pirating site or any other site, it could probably be corrupt.
just got several aps ones that i havent been able to install any other way pirated and some that are not to install useing asus sync
It works great if anyone knows a work around i would still like to know just so i wouldnt have to be home to install apks
Thanks for your time guys

I have some issues with a device I bought (coby internet tablet 7015) that have resulted in my being unable to use the android market (I always get a 404 error) or the app that came with it (appslib) I seem unable to install any apps (with .apk) because I do not have a file manager. I'm looking for a way to install apps without one, or maybe one I can install that is not in .apk format!

Go into your browser on the device and find an apk for a file manager, then download it. when it's downloaded you should be able to open it through the browser. Then you can copy over an apk for ME (MarketEnabler) and install it. ME will let you use the market.
I wrote down some options:
1. If you rooted your phone and such you can just use adb from SDK
Code:
adb install [dir/package.apk]
(usb debugging enabled).
2. If you have internet on your device, upload a file manager apk you downloaded from a pc and put it where your phone can download it from with the browser. So when the download on your phone is complete you can click on the finished download in the notification bar and install it the file manager.
3. You can also try appbrain.
Though I think you should first fix the market problem. How about resetting the phone?
You can also use DropBox. Download the .Apk to your computer, pop it in your DropBox folder, open DropBox on your device, tap the Apk, and voila!
technically its not a phone its a "Coby internet tablet" but I get what you mean, and I have actually reset it to factory default's twice with no success.
To the first poster thanks, that did work to enable to to get the file manager but what is market enabler? and any suggestions on where I can find it?
http://code.google.com/p/market-enabler/downloads/detail?name=MarketEnabler_v3.1.1.2.apk
It can fake a provider to get access.
How does it work? Every time I tried it would say "We've got a problem Houston"

errmmm... every time I install ME it's ok...
try installing the 2.2.6 market from this child forum??
try appbrain. It should let you start a direct download from your PC.
If everything fails then the only thing I can suggest is installing all apps from .apk

He would need root for it to work.
If you do have root, try this http://amip.tools-for.net/wiki/android/marketaccess
It works better than MarketEnabler.
You do have WIFI enabled? And added your google account? Does it have a SIM card?

im having a LOT of trouble downloading apps on my TF which my xperia can download.
my tf says that my country its not allowed to download the app.
there is a way to bypass this? or a way to get the apps =(?
Edit
strange enough i could download angrybirds on my first tablet, now i cant anymore =s
try and find one of the many market fixers out there.
find the apk, put on SD, and install via the file manager.
"market enabler" allows you to spoof your location in the eyes of the market. i'm unsure if there's one that works specifically with honeycomb.
also, rooting and installing the US version of a rom like Prime might help as well.
hope i helped.

i will try but i dont know where to get the Apk's
i downloaded market enabler via the market and nothing
i need to try the custom rom, my xperia its using CM6.1.4 i think and i can download almost everything, but i dont know, there are some apps that i cant get on it.. though
if i can get the mercury messenger apk and adobe reader apk i would be happy for now
edit i got what i wanted, quite surprised it was easy, i just need those apps for now since im using the tablet to read cisco manuals
So I'm too new to post this to the dev thread, otherwise I'd have posted to the rom post.
I have been trying to install the netflix, netflix_mediaclient_246.apk. Before updating the prime 1.7 I was on the stock 3.2 update, without netflix installed. I updated to Prime1.7 and added the pcb theme (Wicked cool theme BTW)
I've tried a couple of sources, but when I attempt to install the netflix app, it says installing, then goes I get an error, "Application not Installed"
When reviewing the thread, some people referenced downloading netflix from the market, but I don't see it in the market, so I used downloaded copies.
Prime ostensibly already has the netflix patch, but I do need to get the basic software installed. Why would an app not install? I've never seen this type of error before.
Thanks
Have you enabled apps from third-party sources in the settings?
Yes, and I've sideloaded other apps since I went prime.
try using an app installer, and make sure that you don't have a bad version of netflix already installed.
I had done a full nvflash restore before going to honeycomb 3.2 so there is no previous NetFlix Install. I've tried easyInstaller, apk installer and appInstaller from the market all result in the same thing.
I've tried installing the .apk from an SD card mounted in the keyboard, from microSD on the tablet itself, and from the tablets own internal sdcard. All have the same result.
The application starts to install, says installing, then I get the red x with Application Not Installed.
I'm wondering if I should reimage prior to adding prime, try installing netflix and the reinstall prime - but I don't want to have to rebuild my data again
I was having the same issue, but ran the apk from total commander on my micro sd and it installed from there. However I am on rooted stock 3.2.
Total commander seems a cool little app- sadly like everything else. i get Application not Installed.
boo
I'm thinking at this point it's cwm restore, install netflix, re-prime. bah, I'll wait till the weekend, when resyncing touchdown will go much better.
SOLVED:
Grabbed the .apk from this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076150
Named mediaclient_1. I was trying the 246 apk that I found on a few other threads.
Happy netflixing.
The is an app in the market that I would like to get but it says it is incompatible with the transformer but I am 99 44/100% sure it will work.
Is there a way to fool the market place? I searched and found answers for other devices but none for the transformer.
Thanks in advance!!

Hi
If you have another android device, like phone, download it to phone, make backup, transfer apk to TF and install. Works for me.
I have downloaded apps directly to my tf and after uninstalling them tried to get them from the market only to be listed as incompatible..think it had something to do with having a custom rom, some of them include older versions of market, some have the option to install the ics market app, while others have options to go back to the hc market app. AS poster before said, you can download on another compatible device and make a backup and just swap the apk over, but if you don't have a backup device many of the apps on the market can be found in the wild as the raw apk file, even some pay apps can be found in the wild, though i don't pirate apps because that is the sure way to kill or own market (who is going to design apps for android if they can be pirated so easily?).
Also, try to get the 'tablet market' app, that seems to have the tablet optimized versions of some apps that are hard to find via market.

O didn't understand you had the apk from the market the first time. Thought you said you first downloaded it from another site then the google market.
Otherwise you need root for you transformer indeed. they are in /data/app folder

hello i downloaded some free apps from the market with a friends rooted phone and backed them up using systemapp remover. i then mailed the apks to my mail address and downloaded them on my tab (which does not have access to the market), i then tried to install them everything looked alright but then i got the message: application not installed and that was for all three free apps from the market. do i have somehow manipulate them before i can install them? thanks for any tips
Maybe those free apps are not compatible with the tab's kernel?
You already said that you backed up those apps from a phone. Try getting a market app and then download them, they'll work.
Use gapps for gingerbread from the development section, and apply them using recovery.

Your apps might not be compatible with your Tab's Kernel.
I would suggest you to install Vending.apk (PlayStore app) first on your tab with the help of root manager and then see if it works or not or search the apps in tab section (PlayStore), follow the old steps and then see if it works.
Good luck!
Try installing the latest version of gapps

Is the phone you are installing these apps to rooted itself? I've had problems with USENET APK downloads in the past, but after rooting just about everything works. Not sure why though.
Out of curiosity, why not download the free apps directly yourself from the market instead of attemting a direct install?
many thanks to all for the tips. will try them in a few hours when its more quite at work.
the reason i can not install it from the market is that my device is not up to the specifications, its one of those hp zeen thingys, not a great tab at all but nice enough to play around with a bit. however what i will try is to install google play as it might work (the new market) but i doubt it, it had the old vending market on it but i removed since it was not working.
what i did also is that i moved those free market apps with root explorer to the tabs memory and try install it from there but it didn't work.
is it maybe because my device is not 'strong' enough for those apps? its just normal bus and train information apps....
and yes the tab is rooted
