Guys,
is it just me or is the 2.3.3 update for our g2x glitchy as hell! My phone seems to be dropping more calls(never dropped calls on 2.2), restarting randomly (didn't used to do that on 2.2 either), freezing and GPS seems sketchy. I have had to pull my battery about 4x more on 2.3.3 than i ever did on 2.2. If you guys are experiencing the same type of issues please comment.
I did the update via lg update tool and NOT ota.
Thanks
Have you performed a Factory Reset? It's advisable to do that after an update.
I did. Was thinking about doing it again but I don't want to loose a bunch of my saved game data bc my sd cars is not being read on my phone.

Here. I'm a big supporter of the G2X, but now it's shutting off and requiring a battery pull to reboot. And it's happening a lot. The GPS was flaky in 2.2 and still is now.
It's really damn frustrating. Especially the shut downs since there's no way to really tell, it just stops working. Wonder if it has anything to do with the 4G issues Tmo has been having recently, seems doubtful though.

Okay so how many of you were thinking this was the update that would make the Thunderbolt better? Let me know of any issues you have been having since the update yesterday. I am speaking of the official non rooted update for the phone fyi.. So far I have compiled a list below of the issues I have experienced personally on my phone.
1. Randomly rebooting
2. Dropped calls and random reboots during calls
3. Gps issues still prevalent
4. Freezes while opening text messages or closing them
5. Noticeable lag when in app menu
If you guys have any other issues please post them and if there is a way to rollback the update without root please post.
Just updated last night and right away I notice I get no GPS lock at all (unless it takes 15+ min). No reboots yet.

Yes I have noticed too that gps searches forever..
Yea, mine has rebooted twice since yesterday also. I'll have to try GPS later today. As for the rest of those complaints, I'm not sure. Weren't they supposed to fix the car mode thing? There's still no way to get to car mode unless you use the one search function.
I updated last night and had a few reboots this morning while using the hotspot. I just tested the gps with the GPS Status app and got a lock in my livingroom in 11secs. My gps has always worked good, but it seems to be locking a good bit quicker.

I'm also getting reboots and during calls also and GPS is no longer locking. Anything i can do about this?
I just used GPS Status and got a lock almost instantly. W/o it I wasn't able to get a lock at all.
Edit: GPS Status did not fix my lock problem. Worked once however I can't get a lock anymore :/

For anyone who is not rooted and getting random reboots, please call VZW support and voice your problem.
They obviously were not reading this forum when half the people with the leaked RUU were getting reboots.
VZW won't issue a hotfix unless people call up and complain and/or start returning phones.
My problem is with phone being idle the battery drains quicker. Before I would lose between 1-3% every hour, now its more like 6-7%. When I check battery use details Android system uses between 60-70% when prior to update it was in single digits.

I talked to tech. support and was told a small percentage of Thunderbolts were experiencing these problems. As w/ every problem I'm being sent another "like-new" phone.

From what I have read, the issue is not with Thunderbolts, It's with the towers you're communicating with. The towers need their software fixed to work correctly with the new RUU. If you guys can, I'd wait it out and see if it gets better. I understand that a random reboot can be a huge deal (I came from a Storm 1) but if it is not wrecking your day or costing you business/clients/money etc., wait a week and see. It can be easier than trying to go through all of the set-up again to get your "new" phone the way you want.
6 reboots yestsrday. 10% battery drain each. Do the math kids. My tb isn't much more than a land line now because it's always plugged in. Returning it for sure. And they just sent me a new battery because I was only getting 5 hours max out of it.
I have had the update for a few hours now and non stop use on the phone so far no crashes or reboots. Phone is not rooted and not using any custom roms. So far so good

Fixed this problem by pulling battery.

Mine reboots 2-3 times every hour.some freeze issues but not too many. Am thinking it would have been better to wait.. hope they get the tower software fixed also...

Is there anyway to revert back to before the OTA update. I could go all day without a charge but yesterday I swapped one battery to a fully charged and I had to charge that too. 3 battery in one day. Today I have had to charge twice already. Something is def wrong. Not rooted. Factory reset says it won't erase current software.
Please help this is not acceptable.

I had the opposite happen, got noticeably better. You make sure all your settings are as they were before? I had to redo some...

You can root. That process takes you back to FW that was released on day one.
Calibrate.

My settings are all the same. It seems fine when using WiFi but 4g sucks the life out. Same with 3g is I set phone to cdma auto prl. Never had issues like this. If only I could stay on WiFi all day.
To be honest, I want to root but I'm paranoid. I rooted my incredible but it was so easy with unrevoked. It seems more complicated now

same as funkybside - my battery life actually got BETTER after the OTA update. not rooted, using stock - did not alter any of the settings pre vs. post update.
The ironic thing is since I posted this my battery hasn't dropped the slightest bit. Still on WiFi. I'm convinced its the radio searching for signal. Yesterday and this morning I was out, no wifi. I chewed thru battery life...night and day difference. Before update though I never had this issue no matter what
I wonder if *228 would help?

*228 won't work on the thunderbolt due to the sim card and how it updates the PRL.
Battery life is worse after the OTA update. I am also getting forced reboots.
Everybody seems to have some problems with the phone. I was wondering what all the common problems with the phone are and also whether rooting fixes the problems or not.
Yes! And no!
Well, my first G2x had problems... It kept shutting off by itself, so I got it replaced. The past 2 replacements have been really good, no problems whatsoever. I shipped my 2nd one back because it came with part of the body scratched. The gingerbread update didn't really do anything for me, other then the updated baseband.
Reboots, shutdowns, over heating are all based on the device itself. Some have it, some don't.
Also, screen bleeding isn't THAT bad.
And CM7 is amazing, so why not root?
So far, the only problem I've had was that the LG updating tool soft bricked my phone. But, at least that updated the baseband. I've not seen any random reboots at all in the month that I've had the phone. Aside from the FFC camera issues that are hopefully still being worked on, this thing has been pretty good.
I bought a mint, second hand G2X and the only problem I had was with the flakey LG updater. Once I got it updated (within 48 hours of receiving it) it has been nothing but stellar. Maybe I am lucky but remember, happy people don't post much to forums such as this. But people with problems can be very vocal. That doesn't downplay the problems to those who experience them, and they have my sympathies, but I would say the majority of G2Xs out there are performing as they should. This is my fifth Android phone (last one a Nexus One which my wife now has). I am using it unlocked ($3.00 unlock code off eBay) in Thailand with 3G service on 2100 and and I couldn't be happier unless the phone had been free. By the way, I am using it stock GB 2.3.3. For now, I see no reason to root it until an exploit has been discovered so I can root it without flashing clockwork mod. The NVFlasher process kind of concerns me, and I am no noob when it comes to flashing devices.
I'm still getting reboots and freezes even after the update. I'm on my 3rd replacement. Also, still takes forever for the gps to lock. Love the phone... when it works.

Have you tried running the phone clean without apps? Then add apps back one at a time, run for a while, and then add another one? Lockups and freezes are usually errant apps, and not the hardware's fault. My GPS locked from a cold start in 5 seconds.
I really dont play games on my phone. Though recently i wanted to try a few games. I notice after playing the more graphically intense games for awhile my phone will get really hot. after about 30 mins or so the phone gets hot. games play real laggy adn eventual will lock up. close and often ill notice that my sd card will remount. I dont get any errors of force close messages. Anybody else notice this or have this issue? I dont really know if its the just the phone or some unknown issue so i figured i would ask.
Just a side not too. i notice i lose 4g once in a great while. i just switch from airplane mode and back and 4g comes right back. I live in the middle of a 4g area. This is also my 5th clnr and non of the others ever did this. Also my wife's charge dont do this at all. the other 4 phones had other issues like blown speaker, lock up issues etc but never this. Did i get set another bad phone or would getting a new sm card or factory reset fix this issue?
I should also note. Phone is rooted running stock rom but has imnuts pbj time voodoo kernel
If it makes you feel better, mine drops data at least 3 times a day.

Are you overclocking? If you are you might want to bring it down some. For the connection problem search around the charge forums, there are some instructions on how to replace the stock modem with the new leak epw1. Also my best recommendation is to flash one of the roms in xda specially humble. They're very stable.

Here is the link where you can get the new modem and flash it with Odin3 1.82, and if you are adventurous try to flash the new gingerbread rom as well. Look around xda for tutorials on how to use Odin.

No im not overclocked. i dont drop 4g reg. i stay a constant at 4bar on 4g. its like ever few days i lose 4g and have to reset or go in and out of airplane mode to rest. So its not a huge issue but non of the other phones nor my wife's phone ever lost 4g.
Ill try the modem though. thanks for the link.
So I have a friend that has a nexus s and he's been having weird issues, he has had several replacements and done several hard resets none of which take care of the networking issue. We both work for sprint and have tried having a data refresh pulled. Esentially the phone is super sluggish and the data keeps dropping in and out. As a sprint service technician I did the usual and to me it seems that it's a 2.3.7 issue. Thoughts, opinions?
Running stock, non rooted. None of those issues are prevalent here.
only issue i noticed was gps always shows me at the same place for about a min. besides that stock has never been sluggish to me.
I feel that in my case the previous radio seem to work better. I had a few issues with network connectivity with the new radio. I'm Pete's GPA18 beta with the D720SPRKE5 Radio and that seems to work well for me.
Works fine here.

Curious, what does 'doing the usual' mean to a Sprint Tech?
I have that problem with mine and i running superosr 2.0.4 which is a 2.3.5 rom. so i am not sure what to make of it
