Google maps = battery sucker? - T-Mobile LG G2x

looks like every time I use google maps it sucks the life right out of my battery why is this? Ofc i know that navigation will use a lot of battery but close to half of my battery for 20minutes is just way too much.
By the way with moderate usage and games does my battery usage look ok?

With the amount of gaming you do, I'm surprised at how little power the display is consuming. It might just be because you apparently don't use the brower much.
Try reinstalling maps. If the battery consumption was a little less dramatic, maps might have been staying active with the gps left on or something, but 50% in 20 minutes is a little much for something like that.
Also, the stock battery monitor isn't very useful. Try an app called PowerTutor, it's pretty amazing for diagnosing power issues. It'll tell you how much juice is running through each app at that moment, the average over x time, total consumption over x time, etc. Play with that and see how much power maps is using in the background. But I'd just reinstall the thing first.

Google maps runs a lot because of some location favorite places or something like that. Its annoying.
G2x with CM7 and faux kernel. NONSENSE!!!!

Screen on plus gps plus data polling equals huge drain

Thanks guys I'll try all of these things

Ever since 5.0 update, there's a service running in the background that no matter what you do, cannot be stopped. This makes me want to try and find an alternative.

[Q]Removed apps data usage? Maybe the battery bug of ics?

70mb of traffic for removed apps process? Why do we even need that? Even if we need it some way why is it done ALL THE WAY in background? Dosent that keep the device awake? I got around 100kb/s speed and with a sleeping(screen off) device the speed is even lower. So the traffic could keep the device awake for a long time and kill the battery.
If not, then what on earth is that process and why it eat 70 of my mbs in 2 days?

I have the same information displayed on my handset as seen from OP's screenshots. I'm also interested in knowing what these "removed apps" could be.
The battery drain bug was due to "auto rotation" feature. please check the forums for more details. turn it off to see better battery performance.
lot of Custom ROMs have been released since then which have drastically improved the performance. Apex ROM with Matr1x kernel is what i am using and it doesnot have better drain issues or the "Removed Apps" process that you mentioned in data usage monitoring tool.
I have the same issue, and I can't seem to find a straight answer as to why or what the Removed Apps is doing, can someone please give me a straight explanation?
i think it's the combined data used by apps that used to be installed on your phone...before you removed them.
does that make sense? like if you installed google music and streamed 300MB of music then deleted the app. the app has been removed but the data it used will still be on that billing cycle.
it just doesn't bother to separate it into background and foreground or maybe it can't. data is data once the app is gone.

help lowering phone wakes?

so after getting a custom rom and kernel and making some other changes, im getting pretty good battery life from my phone, well in comparison to what it used to be, but ithink it can still be better. especially considering how often apps keep waking my phone up. using GSAM battery stats, i am seeing the number of times apps woke up my phone today...
so many apps in the double digits!!
google services is the biggest offender, and when i click on it, it says that Google Contacts Sync is what causes it..should i uncheck contacts from the sync options in the settings menu? if i do that, it will also not save any changes i make to numbers from my phone though right?
and then next is go sms pro..which i have no idea keeps waking up, i only got 1 text today...
it seems ironic that juicedefender is in the top 3 since its supposed to be saving me battery..is it actually useful and am i just overthinking it?
then some of the other ones lik tv show favs and tweetdeck, i dont know what they are doing when they wake either. especially since in the tweetdeck settings i have it set to only update when i manually refresh...
any ideas or solutions to bring those numbers down?
Any ideas?

Random battery drain. Please look at pictures

I have been running CleanRom 3.0 for about 7 months now and have been getting great battery life. For the last week or so I have been getting horrible battery life and i cannot figure out why. I have not done anything different or added any apps since the fall. I have done all the tips and tricks to saving battery ....display set at 10%/30 seconds, All notifications turned off, gps off, bluetooth off etc... I can usually get an average of 22 hours before needing to look for a charger.
Today:
10.5 hours and 12% left. Not even 2 hours of screen time. I have phone forced on 3g and get good reception at my home where I was for most of the day.
Can someone please give me some insight here? maybe I'm missing something??

Maybe your battery itself.
There are far to many variables that play a part in battery life.
Look into 5.6 and remember to toggle off data and WiFi when not in use.
Worth a try.
Edit: now I clearly see you toggle WiFi and data off when not in use. Haha sorry.

Agreed, try changing kernel or kernel settings, gov types, speeds, tweak options.
Sometimes it take alot of trial and error to figure out the best rom/kernel combos. May also have to change a few things in the rom and/or kernel to do so. Goodluck!
You can try an app call "Better Battery Stats"

Kernel advice

Looking for kernel that can save me some juice during the day, been finding my nexus is a bit of a power hog, any advice would be great. Thank you

I recommend chaos kernel, comes with NXT app. You can downclock, undervolt, and change the governor. Very useful.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2551441
But yes what the guys said above me, no best ROMs/ kernels thread. Reading and searching are your friends.
really, the best way to find your devices best kernel on battery is to try them out, decide on the one thats best for your device, and for your personal needs and usage. all our devices vary, so do our usages, and so do our needs. anyways..
battery life is determined by your personal usage, your person setup, your personal method of app management, and most importantly battery life is determined by the quality of your personal data/phone signal. everything else, including undervolting, only provides negligible results. thats why no matter what rom you are running, no matter what kernel you are running, no matter if you are using dalvik or ART, there are people that will say that it gives them great battery life while others say it doesnt give them great battery life.

How is my battery life? is it bad?

Idk how bad this is, you can see my screen time is barely on and my phone is barely awake, yet i get 8 hrs :l Idk if other people phone is the same. Plus half of the time I had my network disabled...
I'm still on 4.1.1 :l I heard that's a really bad for battery. If I upgrade to 4.4.2 will it make a difference?
That doesn't look very good. Can you provide more information on your device please? Stock/modified? Bootloader details? ROM/kernel?

Out of curiosity how many apps have you installed and uninstalled since your last flash? How many do you have currently installed? Have you tried benchmarking your standby times on a freshly flashed device with only stock/gapps installed?

Battery life will vary but for me this is what
I get on a 4.4.2 ROM. If you are in low coverage areas it drains battery way fast

What you're saying about battery draining quickly in a low coverage area is spot on. I don't think providing your own battery usage helps much though because battery stats vary wildly from user to use even on the same ROM, there are too many variables.

About 3 hours of on-screen time has been the average for me. Phone's about 2 years old.
