I have read through previous threads and I'm having an issue with Skype saying that this version dosn't run on my Thunderbolt. I recently had it running on Stock rom. I rooted and I am now running BAMF 1.6.3 with Kernel 4.4.7 .. I had the same issue on BAMF 1.6.2.
I can download the mobile version or the full version but both of them tell me that it doesn't run and that a new version with video was coming out, yet it was working on Stock. Is there something I'm missing to get this to work?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jason

Last I checked, the only Skype that works on the Thunderbolt is the leaked video one.

If he had it working prior to installing BAMF, wouldn't that not be true? Assuming the OP isn't lying, it must be a ROM issue. I myself am running BAMF remix 1.6.3. I haven't tried the market versions of skype, but the leaked one does work. Version 1.0.1.1025 I believe. I do have major problems with the video aspect of the leaked app. I can call out, but the app freezes and, well, just wigs the eff out when I try to video chat. I'm thinking this is a ROM issue with BAMF as people have reported good results with Skype video on stock so it wouldn't surprise me if your issue is also a BAMF one.
Skype got bought by Microsoft today...

I was never ever able to use the Skype app, even before I was rooted. When you downloaded it from the market and went to open it up, it would give you the message that it wasn't working for the TB yet but to check back later for an update.
The leaked one is the only one I have ever been able to run. Also, myself and many others are running the leaked version of Skype just fine on DasBAMF, it is not a ROM issue. The leaked version is the only one that will work with the TB.
Yea might just be a BAMF thing, but I'm not really sure. If I find the time tonight I might back everything up, return it to stock rom and see if it works again. I don't know if the video one worked, but I was using skype. I can't post in the dev forums under the update for BAMF yet as I don't have enough post.
Thanks for the responses.

Alright then. Well may I ask what version of BAMF you are on and what kernel? I am trying to figure out why video calling loses it's mind on my T-Bolt...

Hopefully Google Talk video will be on the Thunderbolt before too long. Won't need Skype anymore, assuming Microsoft ruins it.
Try using THIS VERSION. Just make sure in the applications settings your phone is set to allow installation of "unknown applications".(this is the working version w/video)
I will try that version and see how it goes... Thanks for all the assitance everyone.
Mine only does audio. I tried it on stock, and on The Perfect Storm 1.3 and 1.4, using wifi, 4g, and 3g. Same results - only audio and no video. I can actually see the video from the front facing camera before the other person picks up, but then the video cuts out as soon as they do.
Seems like no one else has this problem. IDK what else to try. Thoughts?

DID YOU TRY THE VERSION I POSTED PREVIOUSLY???? This version works even on the stock ROM as I have it running on a stock Thunderbolt un-rooted right now.
Thanks.... That version you posted works great. Apprciate all the help.
Anyone able to install the skype with video on the new leak?
+1 to the question in the previous post.
Unfortunately it doesn't currently support it...hopefully soon
6 months of using a rock solid stable rom xxkb3 (stock), I had only 1 issue that I needed Gb update that is few new apps only work on GB such as equalizer a great app for music but that too is buggy on GB, it produces tik tak tuk (static sound) on an ideal phone.
I finally updated to xxkpm based custom rom with all those fancy stuff now I observe that the phone is lagging in camera/ phonebook, messeging etc, battery backup is almost same as froyo many version of GB are having problem with following.
high battery drain
WIFI connection drops
In sleep mode, data connection stops working
push mail notification does not work
gtalk/skype video chat does not work
car bluetooth connection drop (phonebook download issue)
I wonder what was this whole GB noise all about, to me version number are just numbers & they don't necessarily mean better stable rom than Froyo.
So I am wondering whats the gain in updating to GB accept that you get a new FW which is still buggy in many areas.
Namaless specifically mentioned that GB is buggy & ditched the development on gb & based his custom rom on xxkb3.
Those who are with GB & prefer GB various version can you tell me what is better in GB that is making you use GB for your daily use? please list features which you think was not available in froyo on i9003
You can see the different here..
http://www.differencebetween.com/difference-between-android-2-2-froyo-and-android-2-3-gingerbread/
Ya...you are right. But it depends on ur preferanace. I dont need wifi, gmail sync (i do it manually), vdo chat. I just use themes, 2g net, lots of fun apps, latest mods like 10 lockscreens, 14 toggles, kernal related mods. This is our normal user view.
But if u ask any developer especially kernal developers then they will definitely 1st go for gb because source codes are more simpler & gives developer more modification in kernal & whole rom. The problems which u have mentione can be solved in cm7. Regarding vdo calling I have hopes from doomlord. He has kernal & device driver's knowledge.
1. I had problem with WiFi (not as others have), but it was solved with help of copying WiFi settings from Froyo. Now it works well for me
2. Battery drain is the same for me now (Before I was using OsmanFansRom v1.2.1, now CianogenMod7). Look at the image (I used it very small today). As you can see it uses battery with the same speed as on Froyo. Draining depends of usage). When I listen music all time through bluetooth it can work only 12 hours. but it's good for mp3 players, isn't it?
3. Never use this (I don't need email at my phone, I always near PCs), And never checked it
4. I use skype very seldom (and only for chatting). BTW in Froyo Video doesn't work too
5. I'm using stereo bleotooth all day long (listening music, speaking and so on). I never had problem with it. I don't know may be car's bluetooth is different, but I don't think so.
Pluses I received from CM7: It's very customizable, It's very easy to apply themes, it's very good looking for me, and I like to use it even now (when it's beta). I like effects OldTV, showing messages in the top bar, unlock effects, and so on.

My reason (apart from the stability), is videocalls. I needs videocalls every day, and this I can only get in Froyo. I only can do videocalls using Tango, and only in Froyo. The other aps (Fring, Oovoo and Skype) in Froyo, and all the apps (includind Tango) in ginger doesn't work. The issue is the same, flickering with the front camera, FC doesn't work well.
I would use ginger because it is more customizable and has things like CRT effect, but I need videocalls, and that only I can do it in froyo and with tango ....
froyo's ancient man!
would u buy a samsung galaxy s 3 years from now,or buy a much better phone for the same price even though u now gs1 is rock stable and solid?
I don't understand you, sorry for my english, but I bought this phone, and I want i9003 give me everything i9003 can do (including videocalls)
GB is better!!!!
Ya man u r right froyo was stable....gingerbread is also stable for normal use....
I felt the following changes-
Speed(u have to agree its fast and smooth)..
More customizable...new and better rom's from developers
Its neat...less lag...better quadrant....more games support..etc

Probably YES since phone to me is a tool to be used for my daily work, life, enjoyment, education etc, The last phone I used was 6 years old moto works like a charm even now, I am not those kinds who are after the latest & greatest & most fashionable phones no matter what the specs may be.
Prime importance for me is, can the phone make me more productive in day to day work/ life, if yes then I will go for it.

Yes due to many new mods its less laggy, but I experienced the same lag in one of the custom rom I tried, now I have changed to another one & will see if it really is a power horse or lags exactly the same way.
So you are saying, "many GB update released and they all crap". That's against the logic why we need updates? Why softwares need updates? Why updates are needed?
First of all stability isn't everthing for hardwares but for sure it's a very important thing. Updates can provide many abilities to hardwares which previous versions can't do. Updates are for to improve performance, efficiency, stability, ergonomics, friendliness. However this doesn't happen as expected and create new problems. And it continues to the time a better solution is arrived.
As for me. I'm using XXKPN.
I can't even use GPS in froyo - Works perfectly now.
I charged my phone everyday - Charging in 2-3 day period.
Lags, self reboots - No lag, no reboot.
Touch sensivity is not bad - After using KPN I say it's perfect.
It takes hours to load phonebook - Loads very very faster now.

No I don't mean that GB is crap, but its still far from being bug free for daily (heavy) usage of various features. Wifi connection dropping is the latest thing which is bugging users. I have faced a bluetooth bug with 2 custom roms they don't work well with car bluetooth & hang at phonebook download but never finishes it thus the music streaming interrupts after 15 sec.
Since I have only used xxkpm whereas xxkpn was released after that may be it sorts out many bugs which I am facing.
The biggest reason for my upgrade is HD playback. This single reason is enough for me.
I think overall Gb is good, I also never have WiFi problem.

Hd video shot with the camera always played smooth in froyo. Hd encoded with certain codec had problems for which I used mobo player.

I updated XXKPN from XXKPE. I heard that many user faced with wifi and 3g issues but I didn't. I don't really know why but small differences on variables can cause various effects on usage. Anyway, it's sensible to use latest software.

But it will not play smooth or through hardware decoding. Now I just download 720 movie and enjoy directly without thinking for converting.

Why did i update?
- Froyo crashes every 2-3 days for me. Gingerbread works perfectly.
- Better battery in Gingerbread
- Feels 'smoother' than Froyo
- .flv files actually play
i have the same problem with GB

Hi.
Are you sure you have the same problem as I had? No one before had this problem on this forum.
in the attach my fix to copy settings files. You have to apply this file in the CWM (before applying be sure you have mounted /system partition).
Edit: here is description of my problem. BTW I don't have this problem with ICS ROMs (CM9 or MIUI4)

I must say hello again to the high speed wifi connection through my phone
When people say that video does not work and it is now working in Zeus rom or with stock kernel what are they referring to? I have tried many roms on my infuse and have used custom kernel since the day I got it and my you tube, and videos, and recording video all work fine. I don't understand what is not working for people. Video calling?
If it's working for you, fantastic. Please stop asking this question. You are going to piss alot of people off.

When the gingerbread leaks first came out only stock kernals would allow video (any video) since then we have gotten gingerbread bootloader and the devs have found the right files to make video work with the custom kernals I believe Dman is the one that got the video working it should be working for everyone now
I'm currently running airfulip's AOSP Style X and previously was running dsexton's ICINB 2.3.7 v2. While running either ROM, I was able browse the web but YouTube videos would not always play. I would only be able to play YouTube videos successfully 2 out of 10 attempts. Now just to be sure, I tried them on my windows Nokia 710 and the same videos had no problem playing each and every time. I did this with the phones side to side. Both phones are on the same network, Wind Mobile. I tried fixing permissions, just because that's something everyone recommends when having weird issues like this, but it did not good. I even tried factory reset and re-installing the ROM and then another factory reset for good measure and it still has problems with playing YouTube. It's really weird it will play on the rare occasion, but for the most part, it's a no go. The screen just sits there, with the loading arrow circling trying to load the video but to no success. BTW, when I am on wifi, I do not have this problem. Any suggestions?
Sounds like a data speed problem. Both those ROMs as far as I know have no video issues. Try running speedtest and see. If it is a data problem try flashing another modem. FB's got CWM flashables in the dev section.
hello,
I'm running airfluips 2.3.7 SOAP style X ROM and you tube is working fine
its known not to play videos. and search criteria wont show everything you see as like on a PC because of the different video formats people use that cell phones cannot handle. Although i have heard if you have adobe flash player installed videos will load better in the browser
Best of luck! =)
Thanks for the suggestions. Tried a few different modems, did no good. Ran a speed test with mobilespeedtest.net on both the nokia 710 and GS4G. The nokia consistently was a bit slower, but it had no problem loading up and playing YouTube vids. I really don't get it. My GS4G will play YouTube but it just plays it on and off. Majority of the time it just sits there trying to load the video. Again, I don't have this problem with wifi. So it seems as if it get's real sticky when running off my 3G service, because wifi has no issues loading and playing YouTube.
Did you by any chance install the the beats audio mod? It happened to me after doing so. Reverted, everything's fine now.

No beats audio mod. The fact that I don't have any issues on wifi and the fact that I don't have any issues on the same network with my nokia 710 loading and playing the same videos has to mean there is an issue with the youtube app hooking up to my 3g data service. I'm gonna give valhalla final a try again. I don't remember every having this issue with valhalla final. So if it happens running valhalla final then I think im done troubleshooting. lol.
So it seems Vlahalla Final has no problems with youtube on my phone. It's very odd. I'm gonna just stick with this until I go full time to windows phone when Apollo is out in the fall.
I simply love Valhalla Final.
On my opinion, best ROM this phone has, combined with Team Acid kernel and Adrenaline Shot it doesn't get any better than this.

I have the same problem and I'm running dsexton's icbinb rom. I've been told to use gremlin remover.. but when you don't have access to a PC you just can't. I have no other problem with this Rom the YouTube issue is all! I'm gonna flash the new version of the Rom and see if it fixes it. Also, is it OK to flash over the old version with the aroma installer? Or do I have to do a wipe?

I had a problem with YouTube videos 2 days ago and a reboot fixed it.
Apparently some flash or RAM issue.

I have the similar problem and a new ROM works, thanks so much.
For Infuse 4g does anyone know a ICS or preferable 4.1.2 Jelly Bean rom with working video camera (still photos are fine video capture is the issue). I have tried numerous Cyanogen, Paranoid Android, Liquid Smooth, roms for Jelly 4.1.2 and 4.2.2.
Always go back to Paranoid Android 4.1.2 pa_infuse4g-2.53-04NOV2012-152548 . Camera is fine but video capture is glitchy. Same for all the other roms I tried. Only other problem with the rom is that Wifi will stop working but a quick toggle will get it back. Otherwise smooth sailing.
All the 4.2.2 roms I have tried have been extremely buggy and laggy. I was wondering if there was a rom I overlooked running ICS or 4.1.2 that had working video. I put the video camera down to 480p like I was told on a couple of forums and it still crashes if you point it at a bright light.
If no modern roms have a working video camera, what rom should I be following that may resolve this issue. A dev that works primarily on stability vs adding features I can probably download from the app store or find a hack for on XDA. This is for my sister that likes to complain so it has to be stable. I really don't want any features just a modern non Gingerbread rom with a working video camera / and stills (she needs ICS VPN or later for work).
Thanks for any pointers in the right direction.
The video is as good as its gonna get for now for us. We don't have access to the correct drivers and code to get the video working 100% on ICS and jb. I am sure that one day one of the devs will crack it but I wouldn't hold my breath. Best thing is just do what you did and drop down in resolution and hope for the best. I've been having great luck with beanstalk, and Scott is an extreamly active dev working hard to make the ROM run smooth as well as add features. And if a feature hurts the stability he removed it.

any luck for 720p recording in JB Rom?
There are two very fast and smooth ROMs for JB, Scott's Beanstalk and Andros11's Vanila rootbox for infuse, but unfortunatly video recording for 720P is still the issue, i am hoping some day some one will find the solution for it, Too much hope on our champ- Scott.
any luck tilll now >?
videocam illusion is not the solution, stock camera is much better than the app, its not snapy as 720p recording ,but its not looks good at all.
