For Infuse 4g does anyone know a ICS or preferable 4.1.2 Jelly Bean rom with working video camera (still photos are fine video capture is the issue). I have tried numerous Cyanogen, Paranoid Android, Liquid Smooth, roms for Jelly 4.1.2 and 4.2.2.
Always go back to Paranoid Android 4.1.2 pa_infuse4g-2.53-04NOV2012-152548 . Camera is fine but video capture is glitchy. Same for all the other roms I tried. Only other problem with the rom is that Wifi will stop working but a quick toggle will get it back. Otherwise smooth sailing.
All the 4.2.2 roms I have tried have been extremely buggy and laggy. I was wondering if there was a rom I overlooked running ICS or 4.1.2 that had working video. I put the video camera down to 480p like I was told on a couple of forums and it still crashes if you point it at a bright light.
If no modern roms have a working video camera, what rom should I be following that may resolve this issue. A dev that works primarily on stability vs adding features I can probably download from the app store or find a hack for on XDA. This is for my sister that likes to complain so it has to be stable. I really don't want any features just a modern non Gingerbread rom with a working video camera / and stills (she needs ICS VPN or later for work).
Thanks for any pointers in the right direction.
The video is as good as its gonna get for now for us. We don't have access to the correct drivers and code to get the video working 100% on ICS and jb. I am sure that one day one of the devs will crack it but I wouldn't hold my breath. Best thing is just do what you did and drop down in resolution and hope for the best. I've been having great luck with beanstalk, and Scott is an extreamly active dev working hard to make the ROM run smooth as well as add features. And if a feature hurts the stability he removed it.

You might try videocam illusion in playstore
Works fine in mine

The kernel in jt's cm9 rom over at rootzwiki allows for perfect 720p video recording.
It can be flashed over entropy's cm9 builds using sgs kernel flasher. WiFi doesn't work and perhaps other things as well...

That's interesting, was never aware Jr had once had working 720p...maybe someone could compare that kernel to the current cm9 kernel...and than try and port that fix to jb...

any luck for 720p recording in JB Rom?
There are two very fast and smooth ROMs for JB, Scott's Beanstalk and Andros11's Vanila rootbox for infuse, but unfortunatly video recording for 720P is still the issue, i am hoping some day some one will find the solution for it, Too much hope on our champ- Scott.
any luck tilll now >?
videocam illusion is not the solution, stock camera is much better than the app, its not snapy as 720p recording ,but its not looks good at all.

When people say that video does not work and it is now working in Zeus rom or with stock kernel what are they referring to? I have tried many roms on my infuse and have used custom kernel since the day I got it and my you tube, and videos, and recording video all work fine. I don't understand what is not working for people. Video calling?
If it's working for you, fantastic. Please stop asking this question. You are going to piss alot of people off.

When the gingerbread leaks first came out only stock kernals would allow video (any video) since then we have gotten gingerbread bootloader and the devs have found the right files to make video work with the custom kernals I believe Dman is the one that got the video working it should be working for everyone now
I am writing my experience with Jelly bean on inspire as I wanted to read one before I tried it but didnt find anything in detail. Here is how I did it and how it has been so far:
I used THIS to root my phone and THIS is the ROM that I used. Please note that you have to install google apps separately to get access to market. Download link is on the same page as ROM.
It went quite smooth and took me about half hour before I had the phone up and running again. I have been using it for last 2 days.
So far everything I have tried has been working:
TOUCH SCREEN: works perfect.
All HARD KEYS are working.
Camera works fine
Camcorder works okay, not great though (the recorded videos have few stutters).
ixMAT scanner dint work but BarCode Scanner did.
Wifi/network data works good.
GPS works fine, i traveled some 20 miles without any problems.
Bluetooth works fine.
Phone works good. Initially it sounded like "sounds was too loud for speaker". I was able to fix that by decreasing the volume just a bit.
Accelerometer and other sensors work good.
I haven't felt any difference in battery. It charged as quickly as it did before and battery life seems okay (although I have really been using it a lot).
Performance of jelly bean:
It is amazingly smooth and fast. Initially I missed the sense UI but once i got used to NOVA launcher, it feels great. I found a launcher called "LP Sense UI". It gives the same feeling as Sense 3.0 did ( I came from Stock 2.3.5 ROM with Sense 3.0) although it is not very customize-able. If you are Sense clock lover, you may like this widget called "Sense flip clock and weather". I like its visuals. Its music apps "Apollo" is quite nice.
You can see a screenshot of my home screen.
Feel free to post if you have any comments/questions.

Update: Just discovered that by default, the system disables wifi when the phone goes to sleep which results in higher data usage. To avoid this, System settings>wifi> hit Menu and select Advanced> Keep wifi on during sleep> always. This may result in a little higher battery usage.
Update 2: Almost a week now and it is still running quite smooth despite the fact that I have tried A LOT of apps and a lot of widgets. Occasional hang ups have happened when an app becomes non responsive and I have to wait a couple of minute; happened to me twice in a week.
I used to use this rom but now I'm on miui, pretty much better when it comes to camera and battery life.
updated the OP and added a couple of screenshots..
Jellytime from RB es working great, no big issues.

I get horrible WiFi signal on my wife's inspire with all the JB Roms. I'm fairly certain its the Kang Bang kernel. Haven't tried any of the CM10 nightlies yet, but every other ROM, ICS or GB, the WiFi signal is excellent. And I know its not my router, an Asus RT-66U, I get signal on my skyrocket from that thing out in the street. Lordmod's kernel was the same way, but Existz TalonAce always proved better. Hopefully Existz will give us JB soon.

JB & ICS Roms
In the last 3 months I have used 8 different roms, on CM10 latest nightly. Seems good.
I have swappted the radio trying to find the best one. I only get about 40ft of wifi with one dot.
had the 12.69s and now back to 12.59 and it seems to pick up a little better with less battery drain.
Still playing around to find the best combo.
Thanks for sharing. I'm looking to root my htc and wasn't sure which rom to use.
I currently have the most recent and up to date Ice cold sandwich ROM, and I was thinking of switching to jelly bean. Should I make the switch? I don't know much about these ROM's my friend does, and I've heard jelly bean is a great ROM.

Was using Sabsa prime v 8.0 which had ICS 4.0.3 and now am running CyanogenMod 10.1 with jelly bean 4.2.1 and I am not considering going back. In fact I am looking at how smoothly this 10.1 runs on galaxy note 2 so when I upgrade I can get 4.1.2 Samsung touch whiz stuff off.

I tried a few of the various jellybean roms and while I really liked them I had a few probs, wifi signal being one, on another it would just freeze up on me, another had really bad sound artifacts when I would listen to music though headphones that I just couldn't live with.
I went to ICS aospx and am content, my battery life kills my wifes stock inspire 4g while running very smoothly...
I may give another one of the jellybean roms another try with a different kernel and see what happens... but right now i'm happy so we'll see if I change it.
Thanks for sharing your experience, based on this I am going to give this a shot.
which kernel and radio suits for jelly bean?
I'm running the JellyTime ROM as well, and I'm pleasantly surprised at how well it's working. I was running CM7.2 previously, and while I liked it, there was a persistent GPS bug that was not being fixed. Navigator would lose GPS after 2 min and never recover it, although I learned that the workaround is to toggle GPS while Navigator is running. JellyTime originally had this bug as well, which apparently made it into CM10. But one of the JellyTime updates fixed it, and hopefully it was back-ported into CM10.
I've only been running JellyTime a few days, but all the important things seem to work well. One minor issue is that the backlight on the hardware keys goes out after a few seconds, rather than staying on when the screen is on or being turned on by the proximity sensor. One thing I miss was a widget in CM7.2 that pulled down notifications, which was a convenience in lieu of swiping.
Cm10.1 smooth
if you like JB, you will also like CM10.1, it's smooth so far for me, everything works or the apps I used all works. I will update, if I find any issues.

what CM10 built are you using?
Hey all...
My original Infuse had to be sent back to the Warranty dep because of the micro usb issues a lot of people had...it had Zeus v6 which I did love however I had to figure out how to hard brick it because I couldn't go back to stock....
So here I am with my new (Most likely refurbished) Infuse and it actually came pre-loaded with Gingerbread (Holy crap right?) and it seems to run well...in fact better than Zeus did....my battery life is better although it still sucks....it hasn't crashed yet so so far no known issues....
However, I miss the extra features Rooting/Flashing can do whether they're just for fun or not....but I'm worried I'm going to have the same USB issue right and never get back to stock again if something dire goes wrong....I almost felt like flashing caused the problem because it happened the same week....
So here's my question...
A lot of these new ICS/JB Roms are obviously ports of one another which is cool but everywhere I look they all seem to have the same issues with BT not working...wifi issues...signal issues and videocamera issues....I realize people have fixes with these with different kernels etc....but is there a more stable ROM than others? I used to have CM7 before Zeus and it was really slick and stable however I hated that it was missing some TouchWiz features that love and Zeus kept them....But when it comes to ICS I do like that "Vanilla" look because it doesn't really seem stock Samsung phones have it because of Touchwiz...
So what's the most stable ROM most of you know works best...
What's the flashiest ROM (all the bells and whistles)
And do any of them incorporate some TouchWiz features like swiping right or left on contacts for calling or messaging..(I don't know why I just love that feature)
So far from the looks like the updated Unofficial CM10 is the way to go....anyone want to steer me clear from this?
The only issue at the moment with ics/jb is 720p recording. Everything else is running completely fine.
Most of the jb roms are really smooth and stable. Try a few of them out and stick with the one you prefer.

Great post from andros here. No one can really make up your mind on what ROM to go with as some may have features you don't want, like, or need and/or is missing features you want/need. The most anybody can really do is throw a few recommendations out there (which i will do) but the rest is up to you.
Some ROMs i would personally recommend would first of all be andros's LiquidSmooth (click picture in my sig).
Some others from the JellyBean line-up would be RemICS-JB, SlimBean, and the unofficial CM10.
The only ICS ROM i have used is RemICS (not the same as RemICS-JB) so can't give any recommendations there (same goes for GB ROMs).
Those are the ROMs i have personally tried and are in my opinion the best 4.x ROMs for the infuse. But like i said earlier, it's your decision which one to go with. Research each ROM's features list, bug list, and update intervals to see which one is best for you.
-DD
You listed bt first so I assuming that is important. I'm using liquid smooth and it works flawlessly with bt. And battery life is great

I checked out that video of Liquid Smooth and it looks very promising.....on the video he said that everything on the camera works....is the 720p issue have to do with crappy resolution or the video and audio not matching up? Because the video/audio is what I had issues with on CM7....
The guy on the video is using an sg3. The video is mostly for people to see how it looks, its features and functionality.
Our only issue with our Infuse is choppy 720p recording.
Sent from my LiquidSmooth Infuse
If you are going to upgrade past GB I recommend skipping ICS. To my knowledge development on ICS has stopped for the infuse. I could be wrong but last I checked most of the ICS ROMs are still less functional than the jellybean ROMs.
I've tried most of the jb ROMs and from my own experiences, Slim, liquid, and Paranoid are the best. I haven't tried remics or miui though.
Flash one of them and you should be happy. And actually I have the 4.2 camera and took a video at a wedding (in low light) and it was the best video I've taken since stock.
Again it's all personal preference. But stability wise I think jb is pretty awesome.

If going past GB follow instructions on OP of whichever ROM you want. Another good guide to not get a brick is Andros11's guide.

Hi all.
I'm just wondering what do you think about JB 4.2 camera. I've noticed that all 4.2 cameras are laggy. Few days ago I've tested ICS with Sense camera and it was blazing fast!
Do you have any workarounds to use fast camera on 4.2 JB?
Cheers.
I was testing CM10 and 10.1 today and yes, they have much slower cameras than sense roms like sabsa prime 14 that i am testing now. I think it's all about drivers, however you can also try with different camera app.
Reply
Most JB 4.2 cameras are laggy when compared to Sense cameras....As in the above reply its said, It is may be due to driver...Also in some JB roms there is a slight issue with the images captured...A green/colourful line comes in the image...In some roms its fixed though..
I've looked for alternatives but both UCam and Camera360 were worse for me. Still looking for a decent third-party camera app.
Im having the same lag trouble on jellytime 4.2. I just installed Camera ZOOM FX app. In my opinion, its twice as fast as the stock one, and doesn't have any green/pink lines. It changes to stock for recording a video though, but its ok with me... It has built in image editor with lots of stuff. Hope i helped

Hello! I know I probably should post this in the dev thread for my ROM, but I mostly lurk here so I don't have enough post count to be granted posting privilege in dev forums yet... x_x
Anyway, I am running Slim Bean 4.3 on a Samsung Galaxy S2 (T-Mobile model, T-989 AKA Hercules). The ROM works great for the most part, but I am having some issues with the camera.
First off the camera app that came bundled with Slim Bean seems to be a modified version of the stock Android 4.3 app, and had the PhotoSphere mode removed... I uninstalled it using Titanium Backup and then installed the stock 4.3 camera app, and now PhotoSphere is working, which is great. But that wasn't the main issue...
The main issue is that in both the camera app that came with Slim Bean, as well as the stock Android 4.3 camera app, the photos I take from Panorama and PhotoSphere modes come out extremely blurry. It's almost as if these two modes have absolutely no control over the camera's focal settings.
Strangely, this issue does NOT affect the standard photo mode (thankfully), so everyday photos aren't affected. But as it stands, I pretty much cannot take photos using the Panorama or PhotoSphere modes.
I was just wondering if this issue is device-specific? Or have other people on non-4.3-supported devices who flashed a custom 4.3 ROM also experienced this issue?
Thanks in advance for your answers!

I'm having the exact same problem with CM 4.1.2 and 4.1.3. Looks like it just gets stuck on the minimimum focus distance.
